Hi Dehkur and welcome on the Dual Universe official forum.

Nowhere it has been said this will be hosted on a single computer.
It has been said it will be hosted on a single server.
Are you not confusing the words "server" and "computer"?
A server can be hosted on a cluster composed of many computers.
And for Dual Universe, this is definitely the case.

    Best Regards,
    Nyzaltar.

ATMLVE got a reaction from 0something0 in Artificial Eclipses
While we of course don't know details of things like lighting and shadows in the game, its probably inherent that an object in front of a planets light source would cast a shadow on the planet. So I would think it would cast shadows, yes..

Now, it may not work perfectly like this; some flaws could be shadows having a max distance, texture errors, or the world just doesn't really get any darker, i.e. the sun isn't really creating all the light but rather the game renders the world light when there is a sun in the sky.

Also, the concept youre talking about, building an object at the L1 point between a planet and it's star, would in real life be a quite efficient way to wipe out most life on Earth, one way I thought of after watching yet another movie where an advanced alien race feels that the best way to kill everyone is to resort to WWII dog fights.

ATMLVE reacted to NQ-Nyzaltar in Official Dual Universe Lore Bible
    Hi everyone,

Here is a (small) overdue update about the Lore:

    Lore Update (2 Oct. 2017):

UMF (United Mankind Federation) becomes UEF (United Earth Federation).  From a Lore point of view, the testing phases including Alpha and Beta stages are considered in the Lore as virtual simulation run by Aphelia while the Alpha Team members are asleep (note: Pre-Alpha stage is not considered as part of the Lore) The in-game money will the “Quanta” (one Quanta, several Quantas). “Novean” is the term to name a passenger of the Arkship “Novark”.
P.S: regarding potential inconsistency between Nanopack rarity and the way a Player Character is resurrected, it's possible we will go with the solution "By naked, we mean, everything else than what you had before you leaving the Arkship". However, this is still in discussion. We'll keep you informed about the final decision

    Best Regards,
    Nyzaltar.

ATMLVE reacted to Miamato in Rails system
The idea is to have rail system in the game. As wheels are hard to implement because of movement and collision physics, can we have ability to create straight rails. This will open a lot of great new options.
    1) If you can build rails inside your base or big ship - this makes possible to create moving platforms that would work like elevators. For example you have a large carrier ship filled with many smaller ships. You can make main hangar for landing and once you need one of your ships, it's delivered by such elevator to your landing zone by elevator.
    2) You can create hiding turrets, so building a large ship at first glance it would look like a transport one, but when you encounter some enemy - you can show your weapons.
    3) Train system inside a large city or ship, that may work like public transport when it's not enough space for everyone to fly on their ships.
    4) Underground mining platforms. Principle would be the same as for vehicles that build tunnels for underground (metro) in real world - you have some custom build vehicle that moves only on rails, each time you dig enough, you need to build more rails to proceed. This allows to create accurate tunnels or caves.
I think people will create many other cases where such things can be used.

ATMLVE got a reaction from wizardoftrash in Construct Creator for Blueprint Design
I don't know if it's been mentioned, but my favorite argument against creative mode is that it makes ship building harder. If you want a good ship, you have to pay for it, or work for it. It makes the entire ship economy more interesting, deeper, and profitable for those that are good at building ships. If anyone could easily design a ship to perfection, there would be no need for good ship builders, except for unimaginative replicas like x-wings or the Enterprise. Without depth, to building, the ship market becomes worthless.

But again bitmouse if they find a way around pirates....it will be because the were clever in game....not out game of securing their constructiin /base/ persinnel/resources.
The game requires you to gather resources in order to build.....not build outside of the game and then "port in" your BP.....everything is done in game.
Dual Universe whilst there might be a separate section LATER if they decide its feasable without breaking the dynamics......empasis on considering ALL the implications of such a system before doing so. Whilst you may feel this is important....yes ..its important to you....but not necessarily others.
If however they decide to give you a separate section to build....you will stll be required to log in to the server...(security is important)....this means they have to devote extra people or take them away from existing things....causing issues in other areas or delays to existing things.
To be fair it is pretty pointless at this juncture. You may think its feasable and state how it is....however you do not know enough of whats happening in DU or behind the scenes to be able to judge what is feasable or not and neither do we..however they need to get the main part right before they look at other things.
So lets leave it at that and if they do come out with something....good for you. If not.....enjoy the game how it was meant to be played.

What everyone is saying is 100% [REDACTED]. Anyway, I'll try and give something substantial.

Regardless of how the test went on the 23rd, it really couldn't be used as a measure of how things will go on the 30th. It is no secret that there are supposed to be more players, from what is publicly available. Plus, it's common knowledge and sense that the first test was to prepare for the larger one, so the game should be a different version as well.

As such, no one knows what game experience everyone will have on the 30th. You have to decide for yourself how worth it it is to you. Are you the type of person that would be really disappointed if you slept through it, then found out later it was amazing? Or are you indifferent? What about if you stayed up, and you hate it; how much would you regret that? Think about your options, measure them up, and decide for yourself.

Agree with that. There is one more feature in such community driven games - if you are useful enough and don't have enough real money, someone may pay for your subscription just as reward for your achievements and contribution inside the game. I've seen enough of such examples in EvE. For example in some pvp alliances if pilots are good at fighting other people but have no time for farming - they can receive ships for free as well as subscription, or if someone likes to carry cargo all the time, does not steal and stupidly die - they also will find enough ways not to pay with real money.
When I started playing EvE - real money was not an option at all for me due to real life problems, but I've found people that were interested in moderating their local community website along with translations of devblogs to my native language. They paid me with ingame money equal to 3 subscription fee each month. So I was able to pay for my first 2 accounts and buy some nice ships. So I'm pretty sure that in DU there would be enough people ready to pay for efforts outside the game itself.

ATMLVE reacted to Eternal in Hi! Just a short Introduction of myself here.
Hi! My name is Eternal. I am a graduate of Aircraft Maintenance Technician(or AME) in M-rating in real-life. I am not licensed, I am not that experienced, but I am atleast educated in the basics of Aerospace. Hopefully, it will help a little bit in designing in-game, perhaps. I can give you my own opinion and advice in terms of technicalities based on what I know.
I am also trying to learn LUA. I have no background in Programming but just a small bit of C++, in which I also self-learned a long time ago(but gave up).

I just like to introduce myself here and get to know all of you(and possibly, build some network/connections).
Also, I am looking for an Incorporated-Company/s to join where I will be a Partner and Shareholder. I want to work for a company that has a fair equity, liabilities, and rights(we all want what's fair).

A Shareholder is an owner of %Stock in a Business, they will invest in that joint-business, and in return, they get to buy and own %Stock of the Company, and once converted to Net-Income, Shareholders will divide them based on each individual's entitled % of that Net-Income(if you own 10% of the Stock, it is also reasonable that you are entitled to 10% of that Profit or Appreciation of that Stock). By buying into that Company's %Stock, you are literally buying into that Company's %Ownership(the company is nothing without it's Stocks!). If the Company wants to grow and increase it's Capital, it will borrow money to do so, and sell those un-owned Stocks to a Holder/s (let's say I own 50% of Company's $400M-Stocks and my other partner owns the other 50%. Then we increase our overall-Stocks 2-fold [or double to $800M-total] by borrowing money. That means my %Stock of Ownership will become 25% and my partner is 25%, and the other 50% is un-owned. I still own $200M of that expanded-overall-Stock and so is him. That 50% un-owned-Stock will be sold, either to us, or to new-partners, then that loan is paid).

A Stakeholder is the same-thing as a Shareholder, but they are more of a Bondholders(or Investors) though.

I would like to form my own Conglomerate called "Eternal Holdings Co."  that will represent me and my Investments on partnered-Subsidiary-Companies that I will invest-on to diversify. My Industry of interest are as follows; Home Decor and Interior Design(like IKEA), Landscaping and Horticultural-Architecture, Institutional and Commercial Construction(contract), Military Construction(contract) and Hardware-designs, Commercial Airline Services, etc.
I know that there are many ways to make money, that is why I am not limiting myself to ideas of few industries. It all depends on your capital and expertise to expand. That's my long-term goal there. The short-term goal, is to establish a working-business based on the limited-resources that I have and expand from there.

I am open-minded to all ideas that are reasonable, and I am willing to learn, brainstorm, and work hard to achieve success for me and my associates.

When this game comes out, we will all start with nothing. We will all do the manual-work and be a working-class. What I intend to do, is to build my Capital and become an Entrepreneur(from poverty to rich).

These Businesses will all be registered to a Country(Organization) where we will keep a record of our Finances and Income(through proper Bookkeeping) and file our Tax. We as a company, want to keep a positive-reputation. We as a part of the Private-sector want to contribute to the economy of our country(we after all, also benefit from the growth of the country).

Thank you! What do you guys think?

there is a discussion about a change of two? Really?? It could be anything from a credit card being over limit to someone being over budget, a Xsolla error, or a dozen other choices that come to mind. Two is not shocking, if you were talking 200 then there would be something to discuss. As it is well within any industries variance statistics.
Let's discuss something important like when we can expect the link to download DU

Honestly, who cares? People stop playing/backing games for all kinds of reasons. So what. Maybe they have problems maybe they lost interest - it doesn't really matter.

All that matters is: what can we do to keep people interested in DU and to get new people into DU

Whoa there, I don't know where you've been for the past several years, but NQ has done more than spectacularly on the openness and transparency front. If you think that them having to describe the personal situations of people who may have had issues with their pledges is what is going to define their transparency, I think you're sadly mistaken here.

You are actually very wrong sir(I assume sir).

This is what you are referencing, but in actuality, it is using a LUA script to follow him. He specifically says that it is LUA based instead of him using the remote flight unit to control it. However, while you might state that his using the flight controller to control it towards him, it is more likely he is using it to monitor the status of the barge like unit.

STATEMENT: None of anything I say here is based on the gameplay of the Dual Universe, but instead on the public media content posted by NQ themselves.

ATMLVE got a reaction from TheBlender in Megastructures
Megastructures are awesome, but I'm seeing a few flaws in your reasoning and thinking here. The first is that you disregard some projects because they wouldn't be profitable, like a space elevator or a ringworld. You should absolutely consider that people may do things because they can or want to, not because they'll be profitable. It is a game, after all.

You also dismissed several construction projects that would rely on construction mechanics alone, like space elevators and ringworlds, which are already possible in DU because all they need to exist are building mechanics. You then say that projects people do would actually involve other things, like Dyson spheres and black hole farming, which require completely unconfirmed mechanics to actually be profitable.

Nevertheless, I think you're too closely comparing EVE macroengineering projects (which are predesigned with specific benefits) to what people can and might create in Dual Universe, which could be anything, for any reason. Players could continuously add on to a construction in space for years, it doesn't have to be a specific dead set project with blueprints, just something vague that it's a "thing" to go and build whatever on.

The ideas and everything you have here are cool. Nothing against you at all, I don't mean to come off as hostile, I just think you're trying a fit Dual Universe mechanics into a specific EVE economy, which is inappropriate. People in DU can build whatever they want, and as such many people will be driven less by profit and efficiency, and more so by the ability to be artistic, creative, imaginative, and simply to say "because we could".
