  1. Some of you may be aware of Geocaching, and if you are then I'm suggesting an in-game version and you already know where I'm going. If you don't know what Geocaching is, I suggest you look it up because you might be interested, and you can almost definitely get involved. Anyway, given the nature of Dual Universe I think it would be awesome to create a system of Exocaching. That is, you would go out into the universe and build a little something on a random spot of a planet or asteroid. You would then mark this location on the central Exocach database, and any other player could see the location in the database and go and find your cach, and put their name there to say they found it. They could be easy, like a big pink monument in a sandy desert, or difficult, such as a little pedestal inside a small natural cave in the same said desert. They could simply be small creations with the names of the those that have found it, or they could provide clues as to the whereabouts of other cachs which aren't in the database, meaning you would have to find the first one to find all the next ones. You could even make whole treasure hunts out of them for other people to find! Although, the point of most cachs is that they don't contain anything valuable, so as to deter theft/vandalism and promote fun. This sort of thing would require: - Coordinate systems, i.e. 'xy' on planet 8 of the system at 'xyz' - A method of keeping text in-game, i.e. minecraft signs It would also need willing participants, though that isn't up to the devs. For a game like DU, where everything is made by the players and there is a huge multiplayer galaxy to explore and discover, I think this could add something fun for people to do. See any reasons as to why this wouldn't work? Think it would require other features on the developers part? Is this something you would be interested in?
  2. Considering the lack of pre-made content making ancient ruins or random derelict ships a non-pissibilty, but also considering how cool and exciting it is to find stuff like that, I have been thinking about this and how I think, as a more long-term goal, it's something if a necessity. Since the devs won't put anything player made in the game then it's up to the players to make exploration more interesting. As much as I cringe at the concept of vacuum inexplicably decaying metal, I would be fine with it if it meant that ancient ships could be found floating through space. It's not something I would expect at launch, and I'm sure it could be annoying and require balancing, but I feel that it is something that could really make the game more interesting!
  3. I suppose you could consider this an introduction. In that case, welcome to the forums! As for your question. It's not entirely clear what you're asking, but the game will be an open galaxy. You can travel to any system and go anywhere on any of the worlds you find there, provided you have the necessary technology. The "space" in the game will be on a smaller scale than real life; transit from one planet to another may take as little as less than a minute, and the planets in the game (while very large) are much smaller than real-life planets. As for the space between stars/solar systems, and how long that it will take to traverse it, we aren't sure yet. Although it won't be as easy as flying between planets inside a single solar system is.

    Ore density

I like that idea. This could go along with some earlier discussion on these forums, regarding how ore refinement could be a skill (and the idea of ore density was probably discussed there too). So you could get that 50% ore like you're talking about, and maybe extract some of it and smelt it down, but (lets say it was iron) in the end you only get like 80% pure iron (it's a game, so that's okay). You can use that, or sell it, but it's not worth very much as either a commodity or building material. If you want to make your ores more pure, then you either have to find a denser vein (regarding densities like you're saying), or improve your ability to smelt. Your suggestion could add a lot of interest to mining. You might find a planet with tons of a material, but it's so mixed in with other crap that it's not even worth it to you. But, it might be to someone else later on.
  5. At this point we aren't sure exactly what connection mechanics will be like, or exactly how transactions will work. My guess to start out would be no, if you sell a construct blueprint, then either the smaller constructs will have to be sold separately as separate blueprints, or they will all be combined into a single blueprint, and then detached manually after construction. Perhaps in the future, there will be a way to connect ships together by some sort of connector, allowing the ability to save a construction of multiple ships as a single blueprint. Some other alternatives would be: - Combining all the different construct blueprints into a single package or "folder", so that they are separate blueprints but buying them all at the same time is the only way to get any of them. - Simply selling the actual physical ship itself. Like, you build the big ship and the little ships and put them where they need to go, and then someone buys the whole thing directly.
  6. This stuff you're writing is pretty cool, is there more to it all or are you just kinda writing it up? Also, 3/5 for homeworlds seems pretty generous.
  7. These are some good ideas! We'll have to wait and see how fluid mechanics work in the game. For construction purposes, I feel like water could be a harvestable "item" as in it acts like any other item would inside of your inventory. Water does seem like something that would be around on release, since habitable planets usually have lots of water. I remember someone saying something about water mechanics in DU kind of being like those in minecraft, but I don't know how much truth that holds.
  8. I imagine there will be many more forum sections once the alpha comes out!
  9. In space, constructs will be able to see and most likely detect each other from very, very far away. As for constructs on the ground, they will be physically visible, and so most likely simply scanning for abnormal resources on the surface will be sufficient. I imagine scanning for things on the surface will work differently than scanning for things underground. Most likely there will be respective measures to counter being detected, such as making your structure out of resources found on the planets surface, or scanning shielding technology. However, I see no reason why scanning for underground player created constructions should work any differently than scanning for resources. They're all voxels, after all.
  10. I think corporations and such will have their own rules, and the members of those organizations will follow those rules. If some of those organizations ally together, they might share their laws and create areas where those laws are followed. But I think that'll be the extent of it.
  11. It's certainly a fine idea, I don't have huge opinions about it. However, I feel NQ should choose people that are actively involved with the game for the alpha. From what I've gathered about what they've said regarding entrance to the alpha, they want people that are cool, who care about the game. That being said, I don't think bringing people in from other games is hugely beneficial; sure they can make cool things, but what does that do for NQ? They want people who care about the game to be the ones that get early access, as a reward. That's my opinion. I've made stuff for space engineers, but I wouldn't expect that to really be a factor if I was even considered for the alpha. Perhaps as an added bonus, if NQ was on the fence, but not a determining factor.
  12. This isn't exactly a modular idea, more so carrier/transport, but still awesome nevertheless. Really cool and good idea! A mothership, cloaked in orbit, with a bunch of pilots each controlling a ship or tank on the surface, safe from destruction. Would be super awesome for sure! And I can see this as definitely being a possibility.
  13. I was previously attempting to think of natural occurrences that would be fun to find and explore. The only thing I came up with was randomized wormholes, as in "natural stargates" which are volatile, and may only open once a week, or go to a different system every time. It is a hard concept. A neat possibility though is that you yourself could make a sort of treasure hunt, and let other people find it. Whether that is realistic at all or not, I don't know yet, but it's not like galaxy-wide puzzles can't be in the game.
  14. MasteredRed said it all basically. The idea of exploring and finding ancient alien ruins, and in order to solve the puzzle there you realize there's two more somewhere else in the galaxy that you have to find, is super cool. No doubt that a galaxy-spanning treasure hunt would be awesome. However, it simply does not fit in with what the developers want. We could sit around all day and talk about ideas for the game that would make it more fun, and even if they would do that, none of them might be in the final game. There's no treasure hunts in Halo, there's no open world in Uncharted, there's no parkour in Skyrim. All these things might have the chance to make those games more fun, they might not, but the fact is whether they do or not is irrelevant because the developers simply did not put them into the game, because they had different ideas about what they wanted for it. Same goes for NQ with DU; there are any number of ideas and concepts which may make the game more fun for many, but ultimately it's about what the developers want for the game, and they want it all to be player-created content.
  15. Your questions have pretty much been answered, so I won't really answer anything but I'll add a thought I had while reading. Something else to consider regarding transporting different craft to different locations, rather than just using the same craft everywhere, is that you may not always want to take your best stuff everywhere. If you're scouting an asteroid field where there might be pirates, or you're scouting out an enemy base on a moon, you don't want to take your best stuff with you; you want to have some minor disposable craft to use when there is a risk of attack. Additionally, ground craft can be great for surveying. If you are simply exploring a passive desert world, being close to the ground and easily able to hop out and back in, as well as travel slowly (distance is not the goal), is certainly desirable. You could closely survey several areas of a planet, then transport the ground craft to another world and do it all over again.
  16. Welcome! You'll be happy to know that devs are very transparent about Dual Universe and openly discuss what is and is not a current scope for the game. It's looking to be one of those indie games that really works out, especially considering the kickstarter's success. Again, welcome to forums!
  17. I definitely agree on the regular updates thing. Even if its just something small, having updates at a regular time is something I would love to see. Space Engineers, for instance, updates their game every Thursday. This is awesome because it's regular and repetitive, and every Thursday night/Friday morning I check their forums to see what the last update was. And all post-release shenanigans aside, waiting for No Man's Sky news was killer, because who knew when the next info or video was going to come out? I can't put my finger on exactly why, but regular updates of some sort, even something small, that happen on a publicly provided schedule, would be super awesome.
  18. Everything is player-driven, so if someone wants to do this then it would most likely happen. It would rely on cameras, along with the ability to send what the camera sees over long distance and display it on screens, which may or may not be possible in the game. As for just written news, such as large events, I think outlets like this forum or reddit will generally just be more trafficked areas for in-game news, since that will just be what people naturally tend to go to.
  19. It is interesting they'd be willing to donate money to fund the game, but aren't interested in actually participating in the community or talking about the game. Maybe they just read the forums, or maybe they fund lots of titles and only participate in the communities of the ones that work out.
  20. So it seems welcome night not be the most appropriate greeting then, but glad to have you on the forums! Your organization sounds neat, I hope to see lots of groups like that, that focus on objectives which wouldn't really be possible in other games; things that are akin to jobs. But fun jobs of course. Glad you're here!
  21. That's a lot of time to fill in but I imagine the years leading up to Earth's destruction were pretty apocalyptic. What with the impending doom of the planet, anyone with no way off is going to go pretty berserk. It's a wonder they even got the Arkships constructed at all, considering anyone without a ticket knows they're probably toast!
  22. Hi Eminio! Welcome to the forums! You did miss the kickstarter, but fortunately there will be a way to donate to Novaquark again soon, and receive some of the bonuses that were available to backers. If you come from EVE then you'll enjoy the concept of this game, as the concept of Dual Universe is similar. As for groups, I'm not too familiar with all of them and their policies, so if you're looking for a serious pirate group than your search is as good as mine. Of course, you're always welcome to start your own group too, though you have to put some effort in or it won't get very far. Good luck, and have fun!
  23. Yeah the main thing is I want to upload them to youtube, and I'm not sure I'd be allowed to do that. I suppose in a few days if I don't get a reply here, I'll pm Nyzaltar.
  24. Welcome to the forums, glad you're here! These forums are a great place, lots of good discussion going on. And always good to have more youtubers ready to upload gameplay of this awesome game.
  25. The soundtrack can be found here for those interested: https://soundcloud.com/dualuniverse My favorite is definitely Productivism. But I am wondering what the permissions are regarding the soundtrack from Dual Universe. Can I upload these tracks to youtube on my own channel? Are these tracks permitted to be used in other videos?
