im more interested in the how than the why of this patch (when combat starts, not why it starts) but I do agree with part of that as I said the DSAT is stupid.  It gives no incentives for non-pvpers to go to asteroids, and in turn also hurts the pvpers.  If they made a 10su range long range radar that "pinged" a general direction of stuff in space (wreck, roid, ship) would greatly increase exploration.  And that radar would take time as to not be spammed.  And then you add the mystery of finding an exotic roid that isnt easy to do, now it becomes more valulable.  And if you are 120 su from Jago in a random direction, no one knows you are there if u the first to find it.  No one may ever rind you, or maybe they do, but it takes time and exploration, which in turn would lead more people to go out because they would have some success rate, but still possible for pvp people to find other people for pew pew content.  And its good active gameplay.

10 su radar you can ping for wrecks, player ships, asteroids, anything is desperately needed, and could take this game to a whole new level.

Played the game since early alpha and NEVER left a ship, or anything else at a market, it is rude and inconsiderate to other players, you could argue that it is just as 'toxic' an activity.  Sorry but I am glad NQ have done something about it and I salute the player that took it.

    Right... where to start...

@NQ-Wanderer : A bit more info on the nature of how the pvp rebalance / speed changes / stasis weapons / alien cores would allow players to provide feedback and or points of view on things that you may not have thought of. Sooner rather than later may subsequently make any potentially required changes of plan a bit less short-notice on the devs and less likely to outrage the player-base if you missed something big.

@The anti-pvp players: I am a mission-runner, I have run well over 100 missions solo in pvp space in a ship that wont win against a purpose-built pvp ship, never lost a ship, only been shot at twice (both relatively recent, both when I was being lazy about avoiding pirates).
-You can just watch radar and fly clear of the pipe, it isn't hard, you can avoid pvp entirely about 99% of the time doing this.
-Your cargo-heavy hauler will never outrun a purpose-built interceptor regardless of speed-caps.
-You can typically fit heavier than an interceptor and rely on your combined shield/hull hp to win the fight if you match their weapons.
-Your requested "security status" attribute would be more quickly achievable by banding together to put up a watch-list/bounty-board for the people/ships that attack you.
-If you don't want to use weapons, or make friends with/hire an escort or scout, or put in the 10 min of flying and maneuvering and watching radar to go around the pirates, or pay for the cells to warp past them, and still think you deserve the rewards of flying through pvp space without substantial risk of being a pvp target, you may need to reconsider what you expect from an area the player-base at large refers to as "pvp-space".
-If you wish to discuss methods to avoid/overcome pirates in pvp space with me then DM me on discord and I will answer when I can, but don't expect a "push button to disable pvp" answer, you must expend some level or both time and resources, and everyone gets unlucky once in a while.

Need dev blog on mechanics of how the speed changes are coming and more on stasis weapons. Same with these alien cores, need more info on rewards and how we defend them, and how we find them.

All of your posts are spot on, but sadly the forum is top heavy with the carebears that will only ever be happy with one thing - the equivalent of a PVP on off button.

Your hauler will always be second class. A semi not gonna be able to handle a tank. Pvp ships are built for war.  Your hauler will be slower cause its carrying more. It's always been this way in any game. You just want a "get out of pvp free" button...in the pvp zone. Not gonna happen buddy.

sounds like asteroids that wont despawn and will be an autominer ?

rest of update sounds good, but the territory warfare aspect sounds to be quite a let down if the alien cores dont spawn unique items to those cores

a quick fix for NQ if this catches you off guard, remove military schematics from the market and make them spawn in the alien cores and space wrecks only

Hopefully this goes with "PVP Balancing" part of the patch. Pair decoupling ship performance from FPS and potential voxel-damage fixes in athena... some actual content to fight over... paired with I hope a proper rebalance to make PVP more dynamic/interesting.... Huge hype. Just hope they get it right... the last rebalances were sorta lackluster.

Don't get me wrong, its something, but adding "lmb hold improvement", to the roadmap?  Shouldn't the roadmap be for larger things and not for tiny improvements?
That being said, i'm quite curious how the alien cores will turn out, hopefully its not just "here we have a small static construct that regularily spawns items into a container". Please tell me that some elements for military space stations etc. is also included.

Maybe some people are confused, your ships in DU are not NFTs you own, secured on the block chain.  They are tools to be created, used, lost, and rebuilt. The circle of life!

You keep skipping past all the entry level content, right to the most profitable and hardest thing.  And then you try to do it with no research, planning, or effort, and when you fail, you come here and blame NQ.

I can't speak for everyone, but most of us here are benefiting from each other's knowledge and experience.

There's nothing wrong with listening to other people and letting them help you.  I do it constantly.

If you chose not to, then it was your decision to make the game harder than it needs to be.

VandelayIndustries reacted to Atmosph3rik in The only thing more tedious than hauling missions is this new Mining "Feature" Trickle down oreanomics
I don't know if you were here before Demeter.  But there wasn't as much ore as you seem to think there was.

In the end there was still a lot of small nodes of low and mid tier ore, but it takes hours to find and mine small nodes.  And even those would have run out eventually.

The ore supply was finite, they would have had to add another solar system seeded with more ore eventually, or the only method of getting ore left would have been asteroids.

Almost all the mega nodes were either mined out or claimed.  And the people who made billions mining mega nodes put out quite a bit of effort to make that money.  It's not just mining, there was hours of scanning involved to find the mega nodes.

You could spend all day scanning and maybe find nothing.  Or you could spend all day mining small nodes and make a few million at best.

In the beginning it was a gold rush to find the high tier megas, and it was fun.  But it didn't last forever, and it wasn't sustainable.

You can argue that the current system is too hard for you, or not fun enough, or whatever.  But your claims that everything was perfect before are just false.

I am split on this one since I both agree and disagree.

For sure NQ does not know how to make the game they want, if they even know what they want to make at all.

But at the same time it was the persistence and the real'ish physics, speeds and distances that made this MMO different and not just like all the others. So that is a large part of why I am here in the first place.

And as usual the main problem is and has always been NQ's lack of a master plan, and inability to execute when they do finally make up their mind (until they change it again).

I've always thought this was weird as hell for NQ to take this kind of stance. I can befriend you, you give me RDMS to your tile so we can team up, and then I can steal every single thing you own. I know personal responsibility.  Then now we can claim and steal from people who leave something for a few days. Steal whole tiles, constructs, whatever, with not even a chance of pvp or defense.  But when we ask for more things or even 1 planet to be pvp, in the zone that was created for just that, no....no we can't have that. NQ is weird as hell.

This "event" was just like the previous bad events where some people got everything and most got nothing.

Not everyone can take time off work to camp constructs all day. I have a 2 hour slot each day to play, so there was nothing for me by the time I could log on. Not sure how this could have been avoided (for me), but the effect is the same regardless. The rich got richer, the rest of us had to shrug again and know this booty was never meant for us.

Not gonna lie OP, this tastes like copium. Having played Elite: Dangerous for 7 years (another space game with huge pontential) and see it fall short of goodness (not even greatness) every single new content release, I am not holding out hope for this game. To draw parallels, both the release of DSAT/Asteroids and Wrecks have been very poorly executed, but they still consider those boxes checked, ready to move on.

In other words, NQ made another fundamental design mistake as they did when deciding to bury ore so deep underground. It took them 8 years to realize it was that expensive when anyone with any experience even playing an MMO could have told them that a long, long time ago.

Battles at insane speeds is not a good idea for so many reasons...It has no design purpose at all. Making people experience a screen saver type gameplay to slow-boat is also objectively bad design with literally no engagement.

That said, this is probably JC's fault. It feels like a design made by a novice because that's what it is.

I know blaming him gets old, but just saying....these are issues because early on, NQ simply did not have a professional with experience in charge of design. He had 3 job titles but zero clue!

So now they have to go back and fix every facet of the game instead of moving forward and adding depth, which is what they need to make this game work.

All of this is why game design is the most important discipline in any game studio...something NQ has learned in the hardest possible way.

Imagine thinking that a game with 100 players is viable.

NQ has 68 employees according to LinkedIn.  It's safe to assume that they are burning through ~5m a year - in short they need 50k paid accounts to break even.
