Shaman reacted to m0rrtson in Feature Request: incapsulate elements and voxels into Groups and let them be tradable
    Hi NQ,

I wish you could create some functionality to for element Group, that can group multiple elements and voxels into 1 Group element, that can be placed into a construction.

How can this be good for everyone including players and administration?
You group 20 Wings M (identically orientated within the construct) into Wing-Group, -
Result: the Game app can operate with 1 group element as 1 wing with 20 Mega Neuton power, which results in less load on calculations, less lags, higher FPS. You group complex voxel structure ( a statue of a SnowMan ), -
Result: players get ability to sell it as its own with his rights. Now if you sell with RDM, it is a separated construct, or you have to release RDM. But a VoxelGroup structure can be sold as Element and you can deploy it into any construct you want, and RDM is present. In fact, I want to have Group-element, that represent fully functioning structure with lights blinking, tables, chairs, screens, -- so you can place them into ship.
Result: If I brake the ship with such Group-Element, I would spend whatever X Scrap it takes clicking only 1 time, and fix it fast.
    what we have now?
-- 1. if people place a lot of elements, they spend 30-50 minutes repairing after crash. You don't value peoples life-time?
-- 2. If people don't want to repair all those elements, they imitate chairs, tables, shower rooms etc with voxels... you can't even seat into fake chair.....
    Best regards,
    M

Wallet feeling a little light lately? Get ready to remedy that when the Panacea update hits, bringing with it two lucrative, quanta-producing possibilities: space wrecks and inactive asset requisitioning (IAR).

    Does not generate quanta.
I mostly like it, the details remain to be seen.
But dont claim it generates quanta please.

There are five tiers of rarity, with lower-tier wrecks with low-value contents spawning at a higher frequency.

Any info on how close to planets or safezone? Space is too big and empty to fly around randomly to "dig a 2SU wide tunnel" and look for something.

As soon as a player exits their construct in Aphelia territory, a 168-hour (seven-day) abandonment countdown will begin for that construct.

Hell yes, thank you, please don’t backtrack on this one, it is the only way to really clean up markets and make them usable for everyone.

Shaman reacted to NQ-Wanderer in PANACEA UPDATE ADDED TO ROADMAP
The Dual Universe roadmap has been expanded with the Panacea update, which is currently in production and brings with it a plethora of new features, tools, and improvements that will be particularly interesting for builders, scavengers, and Lua aficionados.

    WHAT’S IN IT

A follow-up to the changes introduced in the Selene and Demeter updates, the Vertex Precision Tool will provide a powerful, intuitive way to fine-tune your builds. Particularly for those who are new to voxelmancy, this tool will be invaluable. Watch this video to get a taste of what it can do.

The introduction of shipwrecks in space will open a variety of lucrative opportunities for players who seek them out. Sell them as-is, salvage them for parts, create missions for other players to bring you the ship or its parts, or simply fetch a handsome price by selling the location information.

Other new features and improvements include:
Camera Lua API: get access to information about the in-game camera Talents UI improvements: a more efficient way to view Talents RDMS UI polish: a cleaner interface for the management of RDMS
To reduce clutter and keep Alioth beautiful, we are implementing inactive constructs requisitioning, an automated system for the abandonment of constructs owned by unsubscribed players and organizations to aid in keeping overcrowded public market areas clear.
Organization construct ownership (construct slots): a new way of assigning available construct limits to organizations. Disabling element stacking or overlapping: the final step in preventing the element stacking exploit.
    WHAT’S IN A NAME

Choosing the name for this update, Panacea, the goddess of remedy, is a reference to our renewed dedication to taking player feedback into greater consideration.

In reflecting on the aftermath of the Demeter release, we recognized that we fell short in this area. We read your feedback but did not make the adjustments we could and should have. We pledge to be better about working hand-in-hand with the community by implementing a plan to increase two-way communication and making some important tweaks and balancing to the game that will address some of the pain points as much as we’re able.

As a first step, beginning January 12th, we will postpone the next territory upkeep pay period for two weeks. This will allow the Design team time to revisit the tax rate, which many community members said was too steep. The purpose and functions of the upkeep system go beyond limiting “landgrabbing” and are more complex than they may appear on the surface. Many factors and interdependencies need to be taken into consideration.

    WHAT’S NEXT

A series of devblogs will be published soon to reveal more information about the Panacea update. Additionally, we will be sharing a new roadmap soon. We hope that you’ll like what you see, and we encourage you to share your constructive feedback about our ideas as you read each article.
    Let’s chat!

Warlander is angry because two of the basic dogmas of game are being changed.

Dogma 1 - once you install TU, territory is yours forever. This was never promised. The battle over territories was promised. But nobody was expecting economic battle …

Dogma 2 – planetary/meganode mining is the most effective income method for solo players/builders. They are not much into mission running with 50 alts. This method is being lost and nobody explained them how they will work in the future. Most of them is mining because they need quanta to do their projects, not because they love mining.

He doesn’t know how to operate after change, schedule of the change, NQ communication is NQ communication.  I understand his angry reactions. I see that he is trying to find some solution. I don’t agree with his solutions but I like that he is trying to.

Meh. If it comes to it, all NQ has to do is to change the seed for the ore distribution while not updating old scans and the pools of all the tiles would be different.

And clearly you have little to no experience in real-world software development as a "a full rebuild from the ground up" is among the most foolish things a company can do. Over time you cut out pieces that doesn't work and add pieces that hopefully does. The whole ignorant "just rewrite it" mentality it the only reason I even bothered replying to this post.

I honestly think this is a problem across most ship elements as they are using size as a factor in balance. I would say large atmo engines are one of the worst offenders. You have a clunky elongated cube that is so hard to make look good in any design that is not chunky industrial styles. Most people bury them as best they can having only the tips poke out.

There has to be a rebalance of elements with some type of quantifiable limitation on the core. This would allow NQ to rebalance elements beyond "if it fits it sits". Small Core Dynamics have no reason to have the ability to functionally fit XL Space Engines, Large Shields and even a DSAT all on the same core.

The balance of the game will always be broken until there is some limiting factor to how many elements you have on a ship beyond fuel economy. You can brute force a ship by strapping on 50 engines of each type with 50 Large fuel tanks and do pretty much anything you want. This makes for terrible looking but highly functional ships. This is by far the biggest weakness of ship building and balance in DU and is somewhat easily remedied.

I am loving the changes so far (especially the ability to play your most recent emote), but I would like to mention:
I don't think you should be taxed for the first tile you place on a planet, just like how the first tile was free pre-demeter, so that you can safely have your house on a tile without it being evicted if you leave too long. Not doing this will leave most planets empty as many people will migrate to space. IK you guys are taxing for mining but I think its a bit unfair if you don't want to - e.g. you sell ships and money can be few and far between, so could you guys maybe consider changing this? Perhaps you could add an option to your tiles where you don't get taxed, but can't mine either? I'm usually pretty stoic about changes you make, but the new brake system really struck a nerve. these things are too flat and large to fit on the outside of sleek / detailed ships. can we see some changes so that we don't have to scatter them around our constructs like plate armour? maybe xl brakes? thanks! -Shaman ?

    QUESTION:

Are you trying to punish PvE, New, and Solo players? First the miniscule number of PvE Asteroids, and now the taxes on territory that yield less ore per hour than you can mine per 5 second scoop currently.

    Comments on question.

Based on the numbers from PTS, you need 20-30 territories and many more miners to yield a steady flow of resources

All this is going todo is assure is that the inflated ore market becomes more inflated, and that smaller orgs, solo players, and new players have virtually no chance to ever progress, and force people into just doing hauling missions, which in turn forces them to risk PvP Conflict, which with the new changes increases the chance of now being not able to replace what you lost.

I understand this is a civilization building game. To have a civilization you have to have groups, large groups, even nations or mega corporations. But if you remove the ability to make an impact as an individual, or even be able to function self sufficiently to a good degree, what's the point?

What is the attraction for a new player?  "Welcome! Now pick one of 5 mega organizations to join, or spend the next month collecting your daily reward to build your first ship. By the way, if you want a Territory not on Sanctuary, you are going to need to find a way to make more money, because the daily reward won't even pay for your taxes for one territory."

Honestly I have rarely said anything about the game updates. Even schematics. I enjoyed the challenge of working hard to build something. But honestly, if these extraction numbers stay anywhere in the neighborhood where they are now, I honestly think my time will be better spent elsewhere. This is not a threat, or me generally just whining. I love this game, I truly do, but this will literally suck the enjoyment of the game right out of me.

You have the ability to create and maintain what is likely the best MMO in a generation - Don't waste it on bad  decisions. Listen to your player base, what remains, learn from the many people who have left. When Beta hit, the first couple months were amazing, despite the bugs. When you looked at Dual Universe on a streaming site, it was loaded with people building, PvPing, exploring, and enjoying the game, with thousands of people enjoying watching them.. But if you look now, you see the same few streamers, with maybe a couple dozen viewers, if anyone is online at all.

Listen. Learn. Debate. Act. Do better.

Been on PTS now for 15 hours testing while collecting my thoughts. A lot of these changes will force players to /work/ to keep what they own in game... right now with rough calculations it looks like about /half/ of the ore dug may have to go back to paying taxes on the tiles, and thus players will need to work... to keep their land... to keep working to keep their land.

I say work, because these new loops, for many- will turn it into active work/tedium to manage. Plus, potentially half of your ore income is spent on the hexes... now you'll need to take a cut for fuel to transport/logistics. After the end of it, you're left with very little to build/expand with. For new players, it will be muuuuch harder to solo while getting a foot-hold.

So I ask, is this a move to slow players down and reduce overall server costs? As it stands this a soft-wipe of sorts, as many with "fun" projects people work on a few hours a week may now be forced into grinding to keep it going- or loose it... and if players don't come back, as it stands... you loose a tile, as it is on PTS... you also loose all the static constructs owned on that tile.

So is this a change to reduce quanta/inflation? if so than look at the source, missions-alt runners to curb it vs creating a huge sink via land. Is this change for... data inflation? as more ore enters the game, more constructs are made- and in live(more data due to tunnels on top of that)  so more ore = data costs.  And I dare say this is the real reason for these changes, otherwise NQ will let up on them as player outrage seams to be more so than 0.23, and it hasn't fully sunk in yet for most players what these changes even mean... and while this post covers some core issues, it does not cover the ninja-changes to ship elements/flight mechanics or other core complaints.

Give us more ore via auto-mining - more charges, more ore to pull from per hex and... some way to skip the lame mini game.. please? minimum efficiency of 25% vs 0? Nobody wants to login once/twice a day to hop around auto-mining fields to play a stupid mini game. Least while mining traditionally I can tune out and watch Netflix, with autominers- it requires just enough attention you cant let your mind easily wander... but not enough satisfaction to make it.... enjoyable. 2x more ore may not be enough, 3-4x may hit a sweet spot for most. More Roids - All safe zone roids get mined out within an hour of discovery already. fix discovery timer of 20 minutes/middle Colum! Likewise, PTS seemingly won't spawn in asteroids in time for us to check the new spawn rates.... This change will /encourage/ more people into PVP space. Lower the taxes for tiles. This is a game that people pay monthly for- not a second job.
      So say we all.

Ok, usually i am not negative but the balance of Demeter on the PTS server has some severe problems.

    1. Territory costs of 1m per week:
this will lead to almost nobody claiming any tiles any more outside of the sanc moon unless the territory can produce some serious income. so all "player made content" will disappear after some time

    2. Scanning results do not get deleted and show l/h for mining units
this will lead to ALL really valuable tiles being claimed within the first 24h after demeter goes live, as it is really easy to identify  the most powerful tiles for mining units if you have containers full with scanner results.
so after day 1, the fun is over and the "mega tiles" will be claimed by those players/orgs that have all the existing scans.

NQ, as demeter is balanced on the PTS, it would kill the game if it goes to the live server

    - New players some days later would not have a chance to find income opportunities despite missions.
    - earning quanta will be a lot harder, so people would stop spending.. this would kill industrialists workflow.
    - the imbalance between experienced players/orgs and new players would get worse and even more players would demand a wipe or simply not enjoy the game

    please reconsider your decisions.

    Hagbard.

I know the current implementation was temporary, but requiring the entire brake to be exposed is going to usher in the golden age of freaking ugly ships. Please change the requirement to be only the front surface to be exposed.
