I'll be wherever the markets are. And the wars, I'll be there too

I'm planning on taking time off when the game actually launches, but not for the alpha. I'll certainly be playing as much as possible but I personally won't be clearing my whole schedule for something that isn't always on.

Shockeray reacted to Bluestorm in LUA Scripting
"Scripts are run locally on the client, but they can only generate legal actions towards the server. The number of actions per unit of time is also limited (so, if you make a light blink very fast locally, someone next to it looking at it via the server will not see it blink so fast, but some steps will be skipped). Scripts are also sandboxed and limited in number of instructions per seconds, total memory, and of course the set of functions that can be called. "

I think the biggest takeaway from these interviews is the better impression we're getting on JC's idea for how the game should expand and grow. Specifically this quote:

We've all known about stargates and FLT drives for a long time, but this seems to be saying that those things are going to be deliberately designed to be unreachable for years, and I don't think most people realized that.

This is a really big deal because it completely changes how people imagine the gameplay, and how we need to pitch DU to others. If we sell people on the idea of exploring a massive universe like No Man's Sky (man do I hate that comparison), then they're going to be extremely disappointed when they get in-game and realize they can't do that for years. If the game's not actually going to become functionally interstellar for a long time, then we need to understand the implications of that ourselves, and make sure we market the game appropriately to our friends.

Don't get me wrong, I absolutely and completely agree with this sort of long-term thinking (if this is actually what JC meant by those comments). One of the most significant problems for open world building games is that they always feel empty and lifeless, because everyone and everything is so spread out. By forcing players to remain in a concentrated area (first on Alioth, then the starting solar system), the players will be channeled into building a living and active world, instead of just scattering all over the galaxy and never seeing each other again. This is a great idea, and shows a great level of forethought and long-term planning.

I too would like to eventually see other outfits and modifications of those outfits, either through dying and/or mixing and matching. But I don't think that the idea fits as well into this world as it would into say the WoW universe. We are all going to be space explorers from the same mothership, so realistically the uniform variety would be minimum seeing as everyone is the same rank. But ignoring that fact, it would be nice to see a variety of climate based outfits for people in different biomes as well as some way that you could differentiate different organizations at a distance just by what they are wearing.

Not too many changes recently, there are a few new smaller organizations.
@yamamushi, @Kurock, and @Astrophil are amassing a large number of smaller organizations, not sure what they are up to with that.

I think it comes a bit from fear.
I don't think I need to remind you of the many controversial stories from Eve concerning insider knowledge etc.
I understand why it might make someone uncomfortable.

I personally haven't seen anything yet to suggest that NQ might be crossing some kind of ethical border in this or any other situation where cooperation is taking place.

If it needs to be said, it takes a lot of time setting things up for the community. Whether it be this BOOM, du-stats, Sleepers, DU Explorers, moderating the subreddit, building the gamepedia, Cinderfall TV or even Oz (did I miss anyone?).
These things are done by regular players with a passion for DU. If you feel you want to contribute then think of something and Do it. Most if not all of the player run initiatives want nothing more than to engage and encourage people.

But the truth is many people prefer to critique from the sidelines, the arm chair experts. And that's fine, but if you want to be involved in or with the community in any way beyond just playing, put in the time and work to make it happen.

I appreciate BOO taking the initiative in setting this up. It's something that is needed and it enables NQ and all of us to spend time on something else.

I believe you are correct, after the initial release of the organizations and the flurry of new members, the numbers started plateauing.
If NQ released a statement, information or anything else on the game, the numbers would bounce slightly.

That being said, drama also stirred the pot.

I'd be interested to see how the community size just before alpha compares to when the charts were left off. Whether or not the growth continued at a steady pace or plateaued. It feels like it plateaus between DU news releases.

Best bet is just to boot camp it.  I can't imagine you'll have a great time without a dedicated graphics card, however.

    Hi all,
sorry for the lack of updates on these charts, I have been extremely busy in the real world (that exists, I always forget) with studying, finding work, etc, etc.
I had come to a conclusion that these charts weren't great enough and stopped whilst I was ahead. Mainly due to the fact that I was unable to stay on top of input, reading and looking through it all. It got fairly hectic for a time and I had to take a forced break.

Though, with the possibility of Alpha coming along soon, I am thinking about starting up again, anew. As this gives me the chance to better watch the alpha through release stages of growth.
I suspect that the data will be greatly affected by the ability to play the game, seeing as real dynamics within Organizations will be used, seen, heard or abused.

So, keep watching this space, the charts will be coming back soon.

Firstly, the main contributors to the wiki should and do have the most say, since they are the ones actually putting in their own time to create the content.  So hats off to you.

Secondly, mentioning orgs in a game wiki is a slippery slope, when does it stop being factual and accurate and start becoming just another form of advertising?  Even cities may not be there forever. Orgs come and go and constantly updating a wiki to remain up to date seems a tad unnecessary.  I am sure there will be another site dedicated to the current galactic/political map of the game.

That said, org game mechanics should definitely be in the wiki, but mentioning specific orgs, I feel should not be.  This is my opinion and I don't hold it against others if they have a differing one

Wiki = game mechanics, gameplay and game specific information only. Orgs aren't one of that, so no

This isn't the place for them, at least now!
And if there are articles on the forum, they should be marked with a red header or smt. like this.

Yeah the wiki should be for technical info and documentation about DU only.

Maybe there is another place information about Orgs and in game places can be collected together?

Personally, I think organisations are far too transient to belong on a wiki. To me a wiki is about hard data.

Of course you could always file it under history.

Wiki should be for the game itself strictly, just a source of raw information on the game itself.

Leave orgs off of it, to include any other community created content.

    Just my 2 cents.
