  1. The SIMs have a system where you can build a room or an entire lot. I like it a lot. It works very well. If you like a room or something, you pay the creator for the right to use it. It is a great commerce tool for builders.
  2. This is the EVE model. Which I like. I don't think that something should magically move from one location to another, although an automated system of movement from one location to another over a time reflective of the distance would be certainly acceptable. Or, there is the establishment of trade routes where a player will pick up cargo designated for another location and transport it for a fee.
  3. I am in full support of this idea as I am one of those players that would like to have shops at different locations/planets/whatever . . .
  4. I haven't seen anywhere the mention of ship fuel. If the ships were fuel dependent, this would be a method of garnering unrefined free fuel.
  5. I definitely like a more complex system. If everything is just skill-based and arm-cannon, then I have less of a reason to explore (there are other reasons to explore, but this reduces by one) or to find a good location near multiple resources to establish a temporary post. Most of the systems are very similar. Eve's system (before the latest couple of streamlines that did not overly thrill me) is similar to Asheron's Call from 1999. Production and crafting systems are all pretty much the same resource > refinement > production > end product. The only major differences are: 1) scarcity of resource; 2) steps in the chain; and 3) number of components. One of the things I liked about Asheron's was that in the beginning there was some trial and error to find the right formula to create a particular item and there might be more than one, and often, a product of one process became the material for one or more other processes or could be used by itself as a final product.
  6. I'd like something like this to keep people from editing my constructions.
  7. If we are all refugees from Earth, single race only for PCs. However, cosmetics could be an interesting service. Besides cybernetics, change your eye color, hair color, skin color, etc. I'll offer a service at my establishment.
  8. A fog of war could be used and player-created maps (made by exploring and possibly a cartography skill) could be sold to others to fill in areas they have not explored.
  9. Perhaps there might be a storage facility where one can rent storage space.
  10. How about this idea: What if the arkships landed on different planets in different parts of the galaxy and players awoke in those various ships. Different societies would be founded completely ignorant of each other, and then, someone explores and runs into another player built and running civilization completely independent and autonomous of the one they came from. Wars could come from this. Trade agreements could come from this. Completely different cultures could come from this. And what if two civilizations banded together against two others and a fifth sold arms and ships to both sides. There is some rich possibilities. Personally, I think it would be awesome. Instead of a NPC alien civilization, we encounter a PC alien civilization.
  11. Build stargates as a mass transit system in which there is a nominal toll per use. Otherwise, take the long route.
  12. Excellent. I am going to build an arena for ROBO WARS. Come one, come all, REAL STEEL, ahem, REAL KYRIUM, right here. The odds are fixed, place your bets, house takes a draw.
  13. A quality system could be based on efficiency. Depending on the complexity, if a power-plant cannot support ship-wide systems and fire all weapons at the same time, then that ship design would receive a lower rating based on the design itself. Or if there are classifications of ships, a fighter with low speed and maneuverability but many guns might receive a lower quality rating. Then, there could simply be a system based on dependability in which a higher skill level would produce a more dependable component.
  14. Screw the arc cannon, give me a rail cluster tumbler: Ship long rail guns loaded with girders separate on contact into unbalanced segments with possible incendiaries based on relative zero kinetic motion. Even if they intercept with some sort of countermeasure, the pieces will move forward with momentum after that initial contact.
  15. There may be copyright issues, but as inspirations, why not.
  16. being able to construct underwater structures would be great. I am laying claim on the names: Atlantis, Mu, Lemuria, Hy Brasil, etc.
  17. Well, put these two up against each other and I don't see a problem. If these kinds of designs are possible, so would a fast ship that would evade lock-on with electronic-counter measures. Swoop in blow up the weapon and then come in and pound with the self-repairing armored ship.
  18. A large ship like this could carry the resources not normally available on a newly founded planet. Building resources and equipment at a new location will take time. But if equipment and resources are taken along, setting up an outpost becomes that much easier, and realistic.
  19. This is something that the SIMs has failed to do. With all the resources available, it would be nice if it could be done here.
  20. I'd be good with this if they took the consideration of the pet needing food and water and protection from the elements.
  21. I second this, but I can see many issues such as the balance of in-game play. Designing off-line and then essentially pre-fabbing into the game might be considered somewhat unfair to everyone else. I would certainly have a problem if a player went to a new planet where no one was and suddenly in a couple of minutes there is an entire major city essentially claiming the planet for that individual.
  22. To me, blueprints should not be alterable. I'd like to see authorship of blueprints. Like if you buy a blueprint for a ship designed by Zaphod Beeblebrox (instead of stolen), when you construct the ship, it would have somewhere on an info tab on the ship, "from a blueprint design by Zaphod Beeblebrox." It would be sort of an in-game acknowledgement and advertisement for the designer. Same with a chair or pre-fab housing or whatever . . .
  23. This information could be background for the technology present. Story / Flavor text.
  24. Personal Transporters. I would love to have home bases on different planets and be able to pop from one to another. But, that would undermine the need for ships. Probably not going to happen. Personal Cloaking Device? (PCD) Structure Cloaking Device? (SCD) Imagine being able to build a structure, your home, office, whatever . . . and be able to cloak it and manage visibility access, like a secret imperial base or something. Beam me up Scotty.
