ForlornFoe reacted to NQ-Nyzaltar in "New Genesis" investigation.
    Dear community members,

It has come to our attention that abusive recruitment practices, as well as practices to artificially inflate organization sizes, have been recently used more and more in some organizations.

After having conducted an investigation regarding New Genesis, and discovered the following infractions:
    - Recruitment attempts that are harassment by private message through automated bots on Discord.
    - Ghost Accounts to inflate the size of the organization artificially.

It has been decided to reset the member list of the organization to its sole leader, TheMasterArchitect.
Furthermore, as New Genesis has been already twice at the center of troubles regarding recruitment ethics in the past, involving at least once (if not more) its leader, a temporary ban has been applied to him.

    Best regards,
    The Novaquark Team.

ForlornFoe reacted to NQ-Nyzaltar in "DSI / TSU / UEE" investigation
    Dear community members,

A few weeks ago, we took a stance regarding “out of the game”/IRL-related practices to discredit, threaten or shame publicly another Community Member (even if the involved person is guilty of several infractions) that could be an opponent in-game.

As the DSI (Dark Star Imperium) / TSU (Trinary Star Union)  / UEE (United Earth Empire) case blew out of proportion during January, we investigated.

We are really serious about differentiating real life from the game itself. Unfortunately some didn’t take our stance seriously. We gave them a chance to come clean in a private discussion and restart on an healthier basis. They didn’t take the opportunity for what it was: a last chance.
As they preferred “playing dumb” with Novaquark staff, we can’t have any trust that they won’t continue. Therefore we have decided to ban permanently those Community Members for various reasons (all not being banned for the same reason(s)):
Not being honest towards Novaquark staff. Making and encouraging ghost accounts. Abusive recruitment practices. Practising real life harassment and/or threatening another player. Making false report to Novaquark’s Customer Support in an attempt to make ban someone they dislike. Spreading real life information without the involved person’s consent, aka Doxxing.
(strong reminder: even if a person gives you real life information about him/her, it’s not okay to share these information with ANYONE else without his/her consent. You can’t predict how the other person(s) will use this information and if he/she/they won’t share it again. If some trouble occurs following this sharing, you can be held legally responsible).

This might seem an extreme sanction but this shows how serious we are when we say we are not going to let toxic attitude and practices spread in the Community. Our goal to build a healthy and friendly community isn’t just a figure of speech. Anyone caught to spread or encourage any toxic behavior will be removed from the Community as it will be considered as damaging the Community and negating Novaquark staff efforts (without saying that it’s time consuming and a waste of our resources).

Saying it’s a long time grudge coming from before the arrival in the Dual Universe community is absolutely not a valid excuse. If someone has a personal grudge with another community member, he/she should either:
Leave it at the doorstep and/or settle it in private and peacefully with no one else involved. Contact directly (and only) Novaquark staff if the issue persists.
The moment someone uses the Dual Universe community as a tool for IRL revenge, he/she is not welcome anymore. We’re all here to have fun. It should always stay that way.

Therefore, the following Community Members have been permanently banned from the Community:
    Lime / Fullsend / mmtheboss / Sakej99 [DSI] Primarch Zelevas / TharisUEE Melkor_Morgoth
In addition the DSI Organization member list has been reset, and the Novaquark Team has appointed CN_Firestorm as the new owner of the Organization, should he accept to take a fresh start on a healthy basis.

We also give a warning to all those who were indirectly involved (with the evidence we found) but not actively participating in the recent community troubles. Next time, there won’t be any new warning. If you become involved against your will in some shady real life activities, you have only two healthy options:
Leaving the group doing such activity immediately. Report it to Novaquark staff.
If you stay in such group without leaving or reporting it and the group is caught, you take the risk to get the same sanction as those actively involved.
This investigation has taken (or more precisely wasted) a lot of time from Novaquark staff. We really don’t like to intervene in players affairs. However, if there is a chance that such affairs damage the Community by toxic behavior, you can expect Novaquark staff to step in. We hope we won’t have to take the same measures again.

    Best regards,
    The Novaquark Team.

ForlornFoe reacted to NQ-Nyzaltar in Recent Bans: Clarifications
    Dear Community Members,

As some of the Novaquark recent moderation and sanction actions haven’t been clearly understood by some, here are some explanations and clarifications. We are aware that members from “Dark Star Imperium” (DSI) and “New Genesis” think that the decisions taken by Novaquark have been unfair and/or feel like a punishment. It’s not a punishment and we limited the inconvenience to the minimum possible by just resetting the member list of the Organization. This has been done to remove all ghost accounts and make the involved Organizations restart on a healthier basis.

We also made sure that at least one person in each of the involved Organizations can re-invite real members in the Organization:
    - CN_Firestorm for “Dark Star Imperium”
    - Chipfromearth/SpaceKitty for “New Genesis” (until the end of TMA’s ban)

You are more than welcome to contact them to join theses Orgs again if you wish to do so.
Keeping in mind that besides the cleaning of ghost accounts, nothing else has been removed. All community work/content related to these Organizations have been left untouched. We are also going to send an email to all ex-members to inform about the member list reset and offer them to join their former organization again.

Regarding the ban of the leaders of these Organizations:

We understand that seeing your leader banned might be frustrating. However, we want to make it clear that being at the head of a big Org does not give a free pass on toxic behavior and/or bad practices that could damage the Community as a whole. Being passionate, being young, creating quality content is no free pass for such things either. That’s why all the permanent bans decided recently are final. We are not giving such heavy sanctions with a light heart or on a whim. In more than four years, the number of community members who have been banned permanently from the community can still be counted on the fingers of one hand. We think it speaks volume... Some recent rumors say that the bans may be reversed or canceled. There is no ground to such rumor. It’s just disinformation. The fact that a banned member will “not tolerate that” has no weight either. It’s the Novaquark team’s call and the Novaquark team alone.

Now, we want to give a fair warning to anyone wanting to challenge Novaquark’s decisions openly, directly or indirectly. If a community member has been permanently banned from the Community, he’s excluded from the game, which means he shouldn’t be in any Organization anymore. Reinviting or keeping a community member banned permanently could have serious consequences (such as Organization disbanding but not limited to that, as this could trigger other sanctions for those actively supporting banned members).

Now to address some specific questions/rumors:

We exceptionally give some details to the Community to show that we are not banning randomly or without a serious reason. We do it only because some banned members try to take advantage of the confidentiality policy to enforce their own narrative and play the victim, and attempt to misinform other players. Don’t expect the Novaquark team to give anymore information on this case or the possible future ones.

    “Banning Sakej99 was a mistake. He’s a different person from FullSend/Lime”.
The Novaquark team is aware that Sakej99 and FullSend/Lime are different persons. However, that doesn’t change the fact that the permanent ban affects FullSend/Lime will also affect accounts he may have access to (by account sharing, which is forbidden in our EULA). This is one of the main reasons why we are so serious about forbidding account sharing. If someone sanctioned got access to your account, the sanction can be extended to the said account even if you haven’t done anything wrong.

“FullSend/Lime has been unfairly banned, with no prior warning.”
First, for the infraction this community member has committed, there will never be a warning as it was obviously utterly wrong: if a false report is sent to the Customer Support in an attempt to make another community member banned, the one getting the ban is the one who sent the false report. And in this case, indeed, there is no prior warning.

Second, FullSend/Lime is probably the person in the community who would deserve multiple permanent bans (if it was possible), due to previous infractions in addition to the most recent one. Playing the card “no prior warning” is just complete dishonesty and denial of assuming the consequences of his actions during the past couple of years. Here is a short list of the infractions he has done in the past:
    - Asking members of one of his former organization to give login and password of their accounts to him.
    - Using accounts of other players.
    - Creating ghost accounts.
    - Using a loophole in the organization management system on the Community Portal in an attempt to sabotage/destroy an organization by using the account of another player.
    - Participating in a doxxing attempt.
    - Always denying the facts or trying to minimize them, to the point of reaching self-absolving, to avoid dealing with the consequences (a practice reiterated with his last infraction).
Due to the history of this community member, there was no reason for “prior warning” with his last infraction. He has been warned too many times already. Mistakes are not erased just because it happened “long ago”.

By default, Organisations where FullSend was the founder have their ownership transmitted to the oldest member with the ability to create an organization, which gave the following results:
    - CN_Firestorm becomes the new owner of “Dual Insider”.
    - Gravetender becomes the new owner of “Project Azimuth”.
If you are a member of one of these organisations and you want to discuss these changes, please contact the new owner of the Organization.

(About DSI) “There has been a total wipe of the parties to kill the conflict”
Wrong. If that was the case, we would have dismantled “DSI” directly and ban both DSI leaders, which would have included CN_Firestorm. You can assume that if it’s not the case, this is precisely because there is a difference between CN_Firestorm and Primarch. This sanction wasn’t against DSI. The sanction was against Primarch.

Some of the banned members may say “They will be back”.
It’s up to them. However, if we catch them, they will be banned without further notice.

    Best regards,
    The Novaquark team.

ForlornFoe reacted to NQ-Nomad in [Pre-Alpha Event] Build the first City!
    Hi guys,

The weekend test that occurred on Saturday, April 7th, showed that the community is creative!  Not that we had any doubts, if you take a look the recent Outpost Contest too as an example.

It was a lot of fun and, as expected, it was a little bit hectic
That was kind of the point, though, beyond just giving a simple goal to the Pre-Alpha testers. We were curious to see players' behavior, of course, but also to perform a technical test too.

That ended up stressing this "old" r0.8 version of the game beyond reasonable and it's currently hard to continue building in good conditions in the dedicated zone. We have around 412 constructs as of posting this message and some customized Lua scripted ones are responsible for lowering performances for many players.

This "old" version of the game is of course not as optimized as it would be ideal, the game is still in Pre-Alpha and that's to be expected at this development stage.

As the next Pre-Alpha test will happen tomorrow April 12th, and -let's be honest- performances are not going to get any better with even more constructs being added, we have to cancel the event.
In consequence, we kindly ask our Pre-Alpha testers to avoid pos{0,2,-37.2769,175.8497,0.0000} and the surrounding tiles for a better gaming experience

If the Pre-Alpha testers had any issue to reconnect to the game and an impossibility to use the Force Respawn feature, they'll have to contact our Support staff and we'll teleport players elsewhere to make sure they can play.

In any case: data collected are of a tremendous help and we already planned the necessary improvements for the future versions of the game. Some of them should be available in the next r0.10 build and we're working hard to make sure that things will be running correctly (at least at 30 FPS) for the Alpha 1.

Talking about the next r0.10 version of the game, make sure to read this article on our website if you missed it! It contains elements that you might be interested in.

We're amazed by what the community already does in the Pre-Alpha and the help it provides to Novaquark to improve and refine everything along the road. Thank you very much for your patience, understanding, and commitment!

    Cheers,
    The Novaquark Team

Hello @BlackOps and welcome to the forums!

First off, here is a forum page that has all information Dual Universe that you currently need to now. Otherwise the first priority to read.
    link

Secondly, glad to see you have a hobby of shooting people in the face. Great hobby to have! Sadly the founder packs are non-transferable and each account belongs to one player. You can't obtain another person's account as that is against the rules. However though, there are going to be another round of packs with the only difference really being the fact that some rewards were removed, like lifetime subscription, so there's that!

Tell me, what do you want to do in this game now that you have found it?

To the first point, you will not be able to construct your own safe zones, instead, they will be discoverable (and likely very valuable) throughout the galaxy.

You will have to defend yourself, or go out far enough to where people won't find you very easily (perhaps even underground?). It may sound like a bad thing, but if everyone could build their own safe zones they might never have a reason to leave them or group together to establish larger safer colonies.

As to point #2, I don't know about banks, but you will be able to build your own markets (which is effectively what you're talking about here). And you (as we were told) should be able to set your own tax rate on them to raise some credits. Of course, if you have an insanely high rate people might just choose to go a little bit further to get somewhere where selling will be profitable for them (or where prices are cheaper).

I think a key thing to take away from all of this is that you will have to interact with other people in some way or another to get things done, you won't be able to just go out by yourself and be completely safe getting everything done on your own. Part of that "thriving economy" depends on the interaction of players between each other, much like the real world economy.

I could write pages about how the economy might work in DU, suffice to say that the wealth of the economy depends entirely on the number of people playing the game. The more people, the better.

ForlornFoe reacted to Dxeo in KO Mechanic
Hmm, personally I'm not a big fan of the KO mechanic. In normal situations a KO mechanic would not be a huge game changer. However, in a big war the KO mechanic would be incredibly annoying, if someone receives fatal damage, they should die. I am not against adding weapons that are made to incapacitate the enemy instead of killing them, but an overall KO system is not to my liking.

Now I say it's not to my liking though I'm not against the idea of having it, but the version I would recommend is the timed KO state. If someone gets KO'd, they would fall down, and a timer would start ticking before they "bleed out" and die, if they receive damage in this state the timer would move faster. If a person is "revived" in time, they would get back up on their feet but with a massive debuff that would require a med-kit of sorts to rectify. Even after the med-kit, they would still maintain some of the debuffs. People who go down the medical skill tree would be able to lessen the effect of the debuffs, as an added mechanic. Some might call this a bit "extreme" though this is the system I would like to see if KO gets added.

ForlornFoe reacted to Lethys in BOOM - BOO Mass test for alpha
    Greetings people,

As alpha is approaching fast we would like to announce the first player organized Mass tests, called BOOM!
For all alpha backers out there we in BOO would like to do those tests with as many people as possible. As this is an MMO with a strong focus on player interaction we want to help NQ in testing their server tech.
It’s perfectly fine if you test the game for yourself or with friends but doing the same things in huge groups has to be tested thoroughly too - so watch this thread (follow it!) or discord for the announcements of the next BOOM!

    tl:dr facts:
    - player organized mass tests
    - narrated and guided by BOO staff
    - two tests on the same day (8pm GMT+2 and GMT-6) for EU and US timezone
    - NQ will monitor these tests for further evaluation
    - weekly tests of different areas of DU
    - g-drive storage for bug-reports and easy access for NQ

    What YOU need to do:
    - join https://discord.gg/CYNYpT9 (BOOs relay discord)
    - go to https://drive.google.com/open?id=0BzJofzdOkjNAU0RuMkYtVWE4QkU
      and RTFM
    - download the spreadsheet and enter your details (ingame name, system, drivers)
    - watch out for the announcement and join the voice channel in the BOO discord
    - hopefully understand english
    - if you hear “CHECK CHECK” - STFU
    - do what you are told to do
    - have fun!

We plan on doing those tests on a weekly basis, depending on the server-uptime and our RL. As the adults we all are you should easily be able to understand the rules of these tests and how to deal with the spreadsheet.

If you want to help organizing stuff for these tests (building ships in advance, scripting, building bases to test in,...) feel free to contact a staff member of BOO.
If you have any questions, issues or just want to improve stuff - please reach out to us.

We will upload a document before each test where we will outline the basic testing scenario. Feel free to reach out to us via discord or in that document (you can edit it!) with your ideas! Each of these documents will be in the respective folder on the drive to let you guys know in advance what to prepare for the tests and what we will do.

    The first BOOM will include:
    - movement
    - gathering people in a spot
    - jumping/crouching/running/whatever with different distances to each other
    - (hopefully) a little surprise for you all

*NOTE* The spreadsheet might be subject to change, as we want to make the reports as convenient as possible for NQ for further evaluation
    See you in alpha

The first mass test will be announced here and on discord - most likely one week after official alpha release of DU

Note: As things change in such a phase of a game, things like the discord, gdrive and other stuff might and possibly will change too. In order for everyone to be on the safe side (NDA) and because of the ever changing nature of a pre-alpha and alpha, I'm in contact with NQ since the beginning.

ForlornFoe reacted to NQ-Nomad in Pre-Alpha available for Gold Founder backers and above and ATV members on September 30th
    Hi guys,

Live from Gamescom 2017 in Germany, we wanted to announce some news you have been anticipating for a long time now: Pre-Alpha will be accessible to Gold Founder backers and above and the ATV members on September 30th. We just announced the news via a Press Release that will soon be uploaded on the dedicated section of our website.
You probably noticed that we're calling this first public access "Pre-Alpha" and not "Alpha", as originally intended. Why? Because we are not quite ready yet to switch the game into Alpha, but we still wanted to honor our commitment to our backers.

This first public glimpse of the game won't feature a proper game loop as we originally wanted but, after postponing the release a few months ago, we felt like a new delay was not appropriate. We think any additional delays, even though the game is not in the true Alpha state we had anticipated, would not be in keeping with the spirit of our commitments to our community and backers.

We decided it would be better to give you access to the game at an even earlier state than to delay again. That it would be better to give you a look at where we are, rather than wait again for where we had hoped to be at this stage. We promised to be transparent and open and we think this decision is the best way to keep that pledge.
We're still actively working on a number of items that must be completed before we can truly call the game "Alpha" and bring you a better gaming experience. As with any pre-release software please keep in mind that the game is still in development and that the Pre-Alpha version, while as stable as possible at this stage, will still have a number of bugs, glitches, and unexpected issues.

Again, the game should be stable (as are the versions we are showing at Gamescom and next month at PAX West), and playable, but this version is very early and we ask you set your expectations accordingly. That said, we feel this is your game as well as ours and that your early feedback is necessary and vital to help drive our development in the right direction.

What does it change for you? Not much. All Gold backers and above prior September 7th (as previously announced) will have access to this Pre-Alpha and future Alpha 1. New backers pledging after September 7th will get access to Alpha 2 at a later stage.

The Pre-Alpha will not be accessible 24/7. Instead we will be announcing times and dates that the single-shard server will be available for testing. We’ll make sure to give you plenty of advance notice of uptimes so you can plan your play times and testing with friends and other players.

Because we are shifting from an Alpha to a Pre-Alpha test we may decide to ask all participants to sign an NDA and agree not to share information, screenshots or stream the game until the proper Alpha release. While we said there would be a high chance of not having any NDA for the Alpha, this Pre-Alpha is something else and we don’t feel it would be appropriate for streamers and viewers to judge Dual Universe based on this extremely early version. Once the game reaches a true Alpha stage the NDA will be lifted as we originally stated.

However, to allow you to share your crazy stuff with us and the community, we’re currently considering creating a dedicated section of the forums for Pre-Alpha testers to share feedback, post images and videos, and other related materials. It will be the only authorized place to do that to keep it as private as possible at the beginning. Please know we aren’t doing this to hide any of issues we expect in Pre-Alpha, but to help us better focus the feedback and reaction from those who are actively participating in the tests to help us reach our true Alpha goal more quickly.

We know it's not ideal and that breaking the NDA will be very tempting but we wanted to give you access to the game on September 30th to keep our promise and decided to trust you guys, like you trust us everyday.

On a side note, as we're currently attending Gamescom, we won't be able to be as reactive as we usually try to be, so thank you for your patience and understanding. Nyzaltar and I will try to answer your questions whenever possible.
Thank you for your amazing support! We already have amazing help propositions from some of you to help us improve the game once it’s live and that matters a lot to us.

So this is it. See you soon in Dual Universe!

    Hi guys,

We have an important news we want to share with you today. We just sent a press release to announce that thanks to your amazing support during the Kickstarter and via our Crowdfunding portal, Novaquark raised $3.7 million from its shareholders.

As we mentioned several times in the past and more recently in our post-mortem on Gamasutra, your support has been a proof that lots of gamers want Dual Universe to happen. In consequence, our current financial partners are now even more eager to support us. This new round of funding plus crowdfunding mean that, as of writing, we raised $7.4 million in total since the company was created in 2014.

What does it change? Not much, in reality. The Kickstarter funds have been invested in production and necessary daily operations for a company and we continue as planned our road to Alpha for this September.

Despite these good news, we stay careful in our approach and must pay attention to every little details everyday. This amount of money may surely sound big but truth is: we're not "rich". Modern video game production standards, Dual Universe's scope and ambition and the fact it's an MMO impose costs that need to be considered with care.

We need continuous support to make this dream game happen. The more you are with us, the more we can remain independent and strong in future negotiations with financial partners or even publishers.

Press release for gaming outlets can be found on our website here.
Thank you very much for your commitment.

    Additional information on the topic:
While there was clearly a significant amount of ghost accounts created by a few people in the deleted organizations, there was also a significant number of legit players as well. As the current situation is the consequence of actions done by only a few players, there is a high chance that most former members of the deleted organizations have nothing to do with the incident. It seemed necessary to underline this point, as many probably don't deserve to be rejected by other organizations because of the mistakes of those responsible for the situation.

    Hi everyone,

As many of you have probably heard, there has been a purge of ghost accounts and a few organizations deleted lately.  As Organization deletion can be seen as a quite extreme measure without knowing the full context, we wanted to explain how we work, to make it 100% clear for both old members and newcomers:

We have already stated that we have no plan in monitoring closely each organization of the whole community nor involving ourselves in their management for several reasons:
    1) Because it's not our policy and we don't like to play the police role.
    2) Because we think that monitoring everything doesn't generate an healthy environment.
    3) Because we prefer invest our time on more constructive topics.

However, a few people have understood this stance as "Any shady practice can be done as NQ will never intervene".
So we are going to make also very clear that it doesn't work this way:

While we value the freedom and the privacy of the players in the Community, we reserve the right to intervene when a player or a group of players generate trouble in the community. In return of not being behind the back of each player and organization, we expect some self-moderation, common sense and reasonable behavior from the community members.

This is a simple deal between the Novaquark team and the community, really.

However, if someone starts to generate trouble,  try to exploit loopholes in the system to gain personal advantage or undermine the work of other people, then the deal is off: Novaquark will start investigating and if we do find proofs of shady practices, expect sanctions.

(note: we make a clear distinction between sabotaging another organization while playing by the rules and sabotaging another organization while exploiting a loophole. See the topic about Organization Management & Exception NQ Interventions for more details.)

In additions to this process, the following factors are considered as aggravating circumstances:

    - If someone does something forbidden by the rules on a large scale.
    - Cumulating various infractions at the same time.
    - If the people breaking the rules are well-known  have significant visibility in the community.
Very active members / Community Pillars are the face of the community, so it's even more important to act accordingly to the rules, otherwise, it could give a bad image of the community to newcomers.
    - If the people caught (or under investigation) start(s) to play "the one who doesn't understand what all this is about", or ignore the advice to come forward before the investigation ends, thinking it will end well anyway. Taking the members of the Novaquark team for fools will never end well.
    - Making the team waste more time than a simple investigation would have needed.
On the other hand, admitting what has been committed and/or helping with the investigation in good faith can lower the importance of the sanction: to spare us (at least partially) wasting our  time on something that should haven't occurred in the first place remains appreciated.

    What happened recently:

During an investigation, we discovered the following things:

    1) Access to some accounts by someone else than their rightful owner.
That's prohibited by our ToS (even sharing accounts between friends or members of the same family as reminded here).

    2) Access to some accounts by someone else than their rightful owner in order to sabotage an organization.

    3) Using a loophole of a temporary system in order to sabotage an organization with which the perpetrator was in competition.
(Again infiltration and sabotage will be fair game only when the full management system will be implemented, not before)

    4) Creating multiple ghost accounts in order to artificially inflate the size of several organizations.
That's prohibited by our ToS and mentioned explicitly there)

    5) Sharing publicly a private conversation between a community member and Novaquark staff without the explicit authorization to do so.
That's prohibited by our ToS as a breach of our confidentiality policy, as explained in our forum rules)

    Aggravating Circumstances:

    - Doing something forbidden by the rules on a large scale.
    - Cumulating various infractions.
    - Involved persons not willing to admit any of their infractions.
(whether by playing innocent or just ignoring our warning)
    - Time wasted in handling requests to solve problems on ghost accounts.

    Which measures have been taken:

    - ATV status loss for leaking private conversation between a community member and Novaquark staff.
    - 3 Warning Points to those who benefited the most of the discovered infractions.
    - 30 Ghost accounts removed.
    - 5 Organizations disbanded who benefited all from the removed ghost accounts.

Why going to the extent of deleting organizations?

    Several reasons:
If it was just a simple case of ghost accounts, we would have gone with a less severe sanction.
However, due to the four aggravating circumstances mentioned above, we went for one of the most extreme sanction.

Despite all of that, we didn’t blindly erase all the content that has been published in the deleted organizations. Texts and images that were posted in these organizations remain stored on our side, as well as a member list for each deleted organization. In this scenario, founders of deleted organizations are allowed to recreate their organization and can request the assets stored on our side, if they accept to follow the rules after the incident and don’t create anymore trouble in the community (which, unfortunately, is not exactly what happened in this case).

We hope this will answer some questions and worries that some may have had regarding the recent events on this topic: we are not going to delete organizations in a frenzy, based on a whim. However, if those committing infractions push the troubles too far, organization deletion may happen.

    Best Regards,
    The Novaquark Team.

ForlornFoe reacted to jintzy in Adobe to End of Life Flash
Here I know the history... I have dealt with it since the problem started.  It has nothing to do with age.  C++ is super old and the best video games are still written on it. (Granted that's open for debate but you know what I mean)

In 2007 when the iPhone was new, it was a first of its' kind.  Being able to run Flash on the iPhone would have been extremely awesome except that Flash required to take "control" of certain parts of the iPhone and Apple would not allow it.  Apple has been protective of their OS and the capabilities of apps to prevent any hacking and other security issues...  The arguments wildly range as to why or who wants what but ultimately there are policies with how the iOS operates and regardless of opinion, it is to control and mitigate "unknowns."

For example - you can get a WiFi signal reader app for Android phones that will give you detailed info about your signal, but this is not possible on iOS.  This is the sort of stuff I'm talking about and Flash wanted to be able to control it.  It was pretty nasty in terms of legal battles.

Since that time, other technologies have stepped up to the plate to perform in ways that only Flash could, and they do it better, faster, and without a ton of proprietary software to download from Adobe or needlessly include into the OS.

Ultimately, flash was a great idea that created the possibilities of lot of online stuff like YouTube.  But now with HTML5 for example that's not even necessary....

There is a lot more about this subject, but really why... Is because flash just isn't as good as it was when there was nothing else like it.

    Here's some history:
    https://wikileaks.org/wiki/Why_Apple_Won't_Allow_Adobe_Flash_on_iPhone

Hope this is somewhat entertaining - I'm not a historian but I have been in I.T. professionally since the early 2000's and I have to say I am more than pleased to see this happen. Good riddance Flash!

Could we just agree to leave this topic alone? He made his statement, that's enough.

We really don't need every other person jumping in here to comment and starting yet another toxic fight on the forums.

It's not healthy looking to new people coming into the game.

There are plenty of other places to discuss this whole fiasco, creating more drama here isn't going to reflect well on anyone.

ForlornFoe reacted to NQ-Nyzaltar in Organization management & Exceptional NQ Interventions
    Hi everyone.

Until now, we couldn’t manually manage (remove/promote) Legates in an organization easily on the administration side.
Since Yesterday, we are able to use a feature simplifying considerably the process.

As we already mentioned many times in the past, we (Novaquark) don’t want to involve ourselves in the management of organizations created by players. However, we are also aware that the current (and temporary) state of the management system contains obvious flaws. You know it. We know it. As this is still “work in progress”, we hoped that organizations creators will be reasonable enough to avoid abusing the well-known flaws of the system and would wait that all the rules are implemented before trying to sabotage other organizations.

So we are going to state the obvious here:
It’s ok to “play a bad guy” and use dirty tricks once all the rules are implemented. However, it’s absolutely not ok to start exploiting the flaws of a work in progress system: this is not “playing a bad guy”, this is just toxic behavior and trying to gain an advantage while not playing by the rules.

That’s why - despite our will of non-involvement - we will make exceptions until the full implementation of the RDMS (Rights & Duties Management System) for the Organizations.

Why did we decide to intervene?
    Two reasons:
    1) In the current state, a Legate has much more power than in the final system, due to the minimalistic mechanisms temporarily in place. If in the current system, any Legate has the right to promote a member to Legate status by himself alone, in the final system the default rights will be completely different: promoting a legate will be done only with a vote by majority rule, or the right to promote someone will be given to specific persons and not every Legate.
    2) In the current state, a Legate cannot be demoted by any mean (even by the creator of an organization). In the final system, default configurations will allow to demote a Legate with a vote by majority rule. A Legate could also be demoted by specific persons who have been given the right (most probably by the Organization founder) to do so.

How is this going to work?
Each organization is going to have one "wild card": if there is a problem with the Legates in an Organization, you can contact the support team at support@novaquark. However, keep in mind we (Novaquark) reserve the right to intervene (or not) on a case by case basis.

Example of a case where we will intervene:
Some Legate using the flaw of the current temporary system to vandalize (or generate troubles in) an organization.

Example of a case where we won’t intervene:
Two organizations have merged in one, and now both creators of previous organizations want to mutually exclude each other from the organization. In this kind of case, we won’t remove anyone. We won’t favorize one creator above another. However, we will do our best to help finding a satisfying solution for both parties.

    As a global reminder:
If someone finds a loophole in the rules in place (that may happen), and this loophole is used to generate trouble and spread a toxic behavior, we won’t stay idle watching the situation deteriorating.

    Best Regards,
    Nyzaltar.

ForlornFoe reacted to yamamushi in Once Again.... The Reddit Community
The last time I brought this up, the person in question was quick to show up here to try and defend themselves for leaving the subreddit in such a poor shape, but as of now that person has been suspended from Reddit and the subreddit has once again become neglected (could have predicted that...)

So, again, I am posting this to point people towards the better subreddit -> https://www.reddit.com/r/dualthegame/  (I'm not a mod there)

The other one was seemingly completely abandoned, with a 10-day old Reddit account currently "in charge" of it and a bot account put in to keep people from trying to request it from /r/redditrequest.

Why am I bringing this up, again?

Because the success of Dual Universe depends entirely on the community and the way that it is reflected in various forms around the gaming world. It's hard to argue that Reddit doesn't have an impact on games, and there are plenty of vibrant Reddit Gaming communities out there that interact back and forth with devs and give the impression that their games are healthy (full of players) and still active.

If a random user were to come across /r/dualuniverse, they'd see months old posts sitting around, a completely unresponsive mod team, and a sidebar that to this day is full of incorrect information (the old mod refused to remove No Man's Sky as a related subreddit, for example).

That's a disappointment because of the work that the /r/dualthegame mods put into making their subreddit active and accurate, yet because one person buried their head in the sand and refused to lift a finger for their subreddit, /r/dualuniverse is going to continue to get more traffic and subscribers regardless of how bad it is.

    So why post this?

Because if we want DU to survive into the future, and to continue growing and be seen as an active community, we should do our part to continue directing people to what is the best reflection on it (and /r/dualuniverse is not it).

So if you're on Reddit, or you know Redditors who are into Dual Universe, point them towards /r/dualthegame.

And to the person responsible for the mess that is /r/dualuniverse, you should feel ashamed of yourself for leaving this stain on the community. Plenty of people reached out to you asking you to fix the subreddit, instead you wanted to feel this imaginary power over the community, refused to do anything about the mess you left, spread a bunch of misinformation about me on the subreddit and discord, and then got yourself suspended from Reddit leaving the subreddit in the condition that it's in now.

ForlornFoe reacted to Limoriden in The Horizon Institute (H.I.T.A)
Hello! I am limoriden, the head-counsel member of the the Horizon Institute Of Technological Advancement
     https://community.dualthegame.com/organization/horizon-institue#tab-description

The Horizon Institute Of Technological Advancement Is a group dedicated to the advancement of technology throughout the universe, We try to encourage research in every subject. Research Projects done by the institute are loosely supervised, we monitor the projects to make sure they do not get out of hand, besides that, you are free to do what you like. While Horizon does focus in scientific research, we also require a Security detail/corps to protect assets and scientists within the institute. And then there is the head counsel, Horizon will be controlled by 5 people, a decision can only be reached when the majority have the vote, We will make the dealings, hand out payments, and hire the workers.

    Research Corps
The research corps is the main sector within The Institute, they focus on projects of their own. the only thing is though, when someone finishes a project they must turn it into the Horizon Counsel, they will review it and give the approval for the project. As long as your project isn't hurting people, illegal...ish, or killing people, your project will always be accepted,

    Security Corps
They defend the area were the scientists work, since we will most likely be in a city, we do not need a full on military, the security corpse will defend the lab with the scientists if we become under attack. Security corpse will be payed the same as scientists, price is negotiable.
Thank you for reading and considering, and always, Look Towards the Horizon.       (This group was inspired by The Institute From Fallout 4)
