Atmosph3rik got a reaction from MookMcMook in Size of each "block"
For static and dynamic constructs the voxels are 25cm.

For planets and other terrain the voxels are around 100cm.

    According to this post.

    not at all the same.

a debuff (like you proposed) forces ppl to get drinks, food and whatnot. That's just bad game design because I have to do it in order to do other stuff (drink water to use the jetpack - yeah. that's just stupid and boring imho).
If you implement it as a buff (+x% range of jetpack, +x% accuracy, +x% fuel for jetpack, +x% whatever) then it's up to ppl to decide if they want/need that extra boost.
If you implement it as a buff on certain "nono" areas (like skilltraining for example - get +x% faster training time) then you end up with everyone doing it because it's, AGAIN, forced  upon the player. No one wants to get behind on skills in a game where skilltime is the only value you can increase with your avatar.

Atmosph3rik got a reaction from Bambino in Suggestion : PVE Mode
One of the core concepts of the game is that everyone plays in the same world all the time.

    But don't worry.

The Safezones and Sanctuary Moons are basically DU's version of PVE mode.  And it sounds like there will be plenty of safe areas to mess around in.  The game world will be HUGE.

But some of it will be dangerous.

For me at least it really feels like the best of both worlds.  If you don't want to PVP you get huge areas to play around in with not a care in the world.  But you still get the excitement of a dynamic world full of other players and danger.

How about a "tree" voxel? When you plant a tree, voxel data would be stored there as a tree root blocm and the client would render a tree model accordingly.

I dont know if this is already available but i thought the simple task of placing trees shrubs etc down to provide both camouflage and nice scenery would be a plus.

This may/maynot mean that to place a tree you may have to 'mine' a tree beforehand.

This is an afterthought too. I've checked your previous forum thread and can understand your frustration. However I just want to assure you that NQ is going to work on your problem. They try to maintain a close connection to the community but they aren't big enough yet to have fully dedicated support staff. If you have a problem here in the future that isn't a bug, feel free to ask me or anyone else here in the community.

As mentioned in the forum rules, please do not necropost on old threads as you have done already several times.
(The forum rules has been updated to indicate what is considered an old thread)
Granted, this time you stay in the limits but keep this in mind for the next times.

Now to reply on the topic:
Fallout56 is a multiplayer game and NOT a MASSIVELY multiplayer game. Todd Howard confirmed that during the E3 2018 Bethesda Conference. So it can be compared to Minecraft, Ark, Conan Exiles... but clearly not to MMORPGs where the server infrastructure cost is exclusively handled by the Dev Studio or Publisher.
The Subscription model is one of the few topics not open to discussion. We have already talked in great length about why we went for a subscription model and no, there is no solid argument countering the reasons why we chose this model.
      1) Dropping monthly subscription to have more players is not a valid argument if the server infrastructure cost grows proportionally to the player base size while incomes don't grow accordingly.

    2) Saying subcription is an outdated model is not a valid argument as it relies on personal opinion not backed by solid reasons. Seeing less MMORPGs using monthly subscription is not a solid reason if there is no understanding about the "why".

Here is how we view the situation at Novaquark: monthly subscription model has been on the decline due to nearly no clear innovation in the MMORPG industry during the last decade. As new MMORPGs had to offer something different than those already well settled in the market (World of Warcraft, EVE Online, etc), if they weren't going to offer something really new, they had to be different on another level: monetization model. That's how the Free to Play games wave began. Many marketing representatives said many times that "Free to Play" was the future and most people believed it. Inconvients of such model were put under the rug... for a time. The question "Is F2P good or bad?" is irrelevant. Free to Play is a good monetization model good for some kind of games. We just don't think MMORPGs is among those. When you aim to have a game lasting for decades, you need to have steady income for decades as well. Free to play game incomes are too fluctuant, especially because they rely on the success of cosmetics (which is a everlasting gamble for a company as no one knows for sure in advance if players will love the new cosmetics and how much income it will generate before they hit the shop) and lootboxes.

Ironically, there has been recently a huge witch hunt about lootboxes. While we totally understand the reasons, it's a bit surprising that this problem has been exposed only recently, as lootboxes are as old as the Free to Play model and represents nearly always a (very) large part of F2P or B2P game incomes. Surprisingly, with this kind of monetization now forbidden in a growing number of countries, discussions about monthly subscription model are a thing again for many studios and publishers.

    3) Saying people want to make a one time payment is not a valid argument either: nobody with some common sense can ask for a one time payment (at the price of an average game) and expect to have a service lasting forever.

    @Sofernius

    Quite unlikely.
From a financial point of view, that would mean taking more risks than necessary: as said above, it would mean going from a steady income model to a fluctuant income model. Cosmetics make a good complementary income to B2P and subscription models but again, making it the main income of a game is very risky, especially if the structural costs for a game are high.

Those two things are already planned
Beta Key giveaways and Trial period at official release.

I too would like a space station with a lake, or a ship with a pond or something along those lines.

The mechanics around water haven't been fully discussed yet, we know that right now there are no "Water physics" (there are many interview questions around the topic), and it's a bit of a complicated problem to solve in a single shard universe. It's hard to scale that kind of stuff up properly without bringing incredible performance drops to the rest of the game (same reason we won't have an atmospheric ship pressure).

Water, nevertheless, is an important thing for them to solve in the long run. Whether or not we get to carry water with us in our ships like that is a whole other question, but I hope that at the very least they solve the issues around water on planets.

Atmosph3rik reacted to NQ-Nyzaltar in Territories for landing
    Hi everyone,

Preventing a construct to enter a specific space is a sensible topic as it could be abused the other way (like imprisoning constructs).
While we are aware  that giving total freedom on landing anywhere could lead to griefing behavior (especially in Safe Zones where it won't be possible to destroy Constructs having for sole/main purpose to annoy other players, due to the "no PVP" rule), we don't think preventing a Construct to enter a specific space is the right approach. We are currently considering less extreme alternatives that would discourage griefing behavior. These alternatives could define in which case countermeasures can be triggered if visitors don't abide by the rules set on said territory. This will be most likely tied to Territory Units. This topic will be developed further at a later stage of the game development.

    Best Regards,
    Nyzaltar.

    You get it.

If you pay 1 month it will probably cost 10~15 per month.
6 month payment abo, will reduce the cost by 10~20%.
12 month payment abo, will reduce the cost by 20~40%.
DAC will be 20~40% costlyer then the monthly sub, when you go for the yearly abo.

That's what most companys go for on a pay to play basis.

PS: 15 Euro pay to play is just fine. YOu can get alot of people that way + more likely to get people that don't troll all day. Alot of the problems with "zero" cost free to play always is the swamping of bots, doublicate accounts and alot of other things that make the server seem bloated with people ... while people are just getting angry at the people that don't feel any attachment to their accounts. Ban? Well i can just get a new one, this one is just 1 hour old and my main acc is safe and sound.

    What would you rather play?
An free to play game, where you need to spent 300 bucks a year to be competive with other payers. But not even with whales.
Or an game where you need to pay 120 bucks a year, where the ingame shop only sells you emotes and cosmetic skins and stuff like that.

People with money reall like to spent that on games (even people without it spend it ... hard).
The whole free to play gameing community is a cancer to development of new games, that actually need to inovate and be fun.
There's rarely any game that can support itself just from cosmetics in a shop. And even these, often have communitys that are really immature ingame (toxic, trolls, griefers etc).

one would assume that there will almost certainly be 'space only' ships that carry fighters, landers,  and other types of specific use ships. So booster rockets will just be one ship carrying another ship into space.

    Hi all,

Found out about this game yesterday - I had been watching some E3 trailers which got me thinking about games I really used to enjoy playing and it got me reminiscing about Star Wars Galaxies. This in turn led me to research some up and coming MMO games and I landed here.
I'm mainly excited about the player driven aspects of the economy and city building (generally anything non-combat), but most of all just wanting a solid community!

If for some reason, there are a real necessity to add some resources on a planet, meteorite rains could be an interesting alternative.
Unless we encounter some unsolvable scenario where it could stuck players, we will avoid the "artificial resource respawn" at all cost.

Atmosph3rik reacted to vylqun in Functional Seats/Benches
If our ships really get dmg upon hitting the athmosphere with a high speed (devblog) i thought it might be good if that isnt just limited to the ship.
While asking for a complete inertia model, throwing people against walls when accelerating a construct is probably to much, i'd suggest a damage over time effect when players experience extreme accelerations. This dot would then be weakened by a certain degree if players sit in seats/benches while accelerating/decelerating, depending on the type of seat. A simply bench would only work for slightly to big accelerations, while special high speed seats could prevent that damage for very high accelerations.

This would add a bit of realism to the game and at the same time force people to design their ships with the required amount and class of seating opportunities.
