I think DU needs a parking system like Elite: Dangerous.  You request docking permission.  And then you have 30seconds to park perfectly inside your designated spot, or the station opens fire on your ship.

Or the easiest solution would be for people to use their brains when they park, and don't pin someone else's ship to the platform.  But i suppose that's asking too much.

First, welcome to the DU community This game can definitely be daunting, and after the intro tutorial there is a lot to unpack and learn. It can certainly seem overwhelming, or you might not be sure what to tackle next. This video guide lays out some of the fundamental things you can do to get started in your first weeks of Dual Universe.

Heck, you're too forgiving! This is Alpha 3! 😉

But... As an Alpha player yourself, you were not sold a complete product, you were sold a potential product. As a Beta player, I was just sold a pack of lies... And that ties directly into why I think Alpha/Beta players are less active, that the game does not completely satisfy expectations (but enough to play it anyway) is only part of the problem. If you were playing during Alpha, you KNEW that everything would be wiped at beta launch. On the other hand NQ kept up the lie for 18 months that they would only wipe if necessary and then only what was necessary. A lot of players went into Beta with the expectation that what they build they would keep (one way or another), that didn't happen. So most are now two months into redoing what they did in beta, just doing it more efficiently, instead of having fun. And lets be honest, very few of the 'wealth' making game loops are anything but 'fun'... So things went from the fun exploration/discovery phase of beta, to the work of 'launch', with always that nagging feeling that NQ could wipe again or that real possibility that DU would just disappear completely. After two months of working DU, I get the distinct impression that we're right back at a state where we were in beta, an unbalanced economy due to bad decisions at NQ, exploits that are being fixed, but the damage not rolled back. etc.

I personally have several friends who would play this game just to play it like a flight simulator. With a better mission system and missions that are different based on your location, HOTAS support could pull players from other HOTAS-supporting space games I shall not name (and similarly have some notorious reputations).
I play all the space games and DU's flight model has spoiled me. I think its one of the best aspects of this game, and I think it's heavily undersold in the promo material. Realistic space flight is almost unheard-of in this genre. Please consider moving HOTAS support up the list of priorities! I guarantee it is a feature that will grab players on its own (and ones who don't care about amassing assets or creating excessive data load)

Novean-61657 reacted to Mncdk1 in Recycling
The implementation we're going to get of recycling, seems to be - at the same time - both the laziest implementation they could have done, and also, a needlessly complicated implementation.

The needlessly complicated part is the need to rightclick on everything that I want to recycle. If I crash a ship a few times, and take the parts off when they reach one life each, then I now have a ton of parts that I need to rightclick>recycle on each one individually. You know, you could have just made a random machine that had an input box, and an output box. And players would have been fine with that. The machine only needed an "on or off" state; "Recycle the contents of the input box, yes/no?". Instead it was made pointlessly tedious to do.
At least that part feels familiar.

Secondly, the way the output seems to be chosen, at least according to NQ Riply and what was shown on the stream, the recycling process just picks a random input material, and gives you all of it? What kind of nonsense if that? I've destroyed and repaired an element X numbers of times, but every single piece of Y input materials that went into making it, is perfectly fine and the lot will be recycled?!? COME ON. At least make element lives matter. Give all of the materials, but some percentage of each, which is then reduced as element lives are reduced.

Sorry, Deckard wants balanced feedback, so I should say something nice. The tower with the colored lumi-glass rings looked kinda neat.

Lets assume we are talking only about Basic Space Engine L.  This applies to all but I want to make it simple.

    I have these items below....

    30x Basic Space Engine L - New
    30x Basic Space Engine L - 2 of 3 lives remaining
    30x Basic Space Engine L - 1 of 3 lives remaining

I now have 61 slots in a container taken up.

Can we please get the ability to stack parts with equal lives remaining and instead just have 3 slots taken up?   This has an effect on being able to use dispensers as well since I would have to reset the dispenser for each individual element as opposed to using 3 separate dispenser to dispense a part with equal amount of life left.

It depends on in what DU community you participate in. D4nkKn1ght hosted a 'Fly in' two days ago and streamed all the ships on Twitch:
    https://www.twitch.tv/D4nkKn1ght
(You can watch the stream from two days ago to get an impression of what's there.)

There are a ton of cool communities showing cool ships/constructs, doing races, etc.

Shamsie (NQ-Ripley) was also streaming a lot of interesting stuff before he sold his soul to NQ. 😉 He still streams DU occasionally...

Markee Dragon also has his streaming community/activities in DU.

There are many, many others. I think that there are many cool constructs in DU and people are showing them off. But many are also still in their build up phase two months after launch, because so much was build during beta that they want to reconstruct first. Beta ships that need to be reworked and new ships that are being build. Just keep in mind that not everyone is as motivated as they were during beta and rebuilding might take longer then planned. But I already see impressively tile clusters that are build up pretty heavily.

Now, if those five DAC are the only things you want to spend on DU you might want to hold on to them, at the risk of loosing the opportunity to spend them at all... If not, there are cool things in DU already and just go and look!

Zero loss... The ideas section was where suggestions went to die, anyway. Like those catholic church Confessionaries we often see in movies, ("Forgive me father, for I have sinned") they are there purely just to help you get something off your chest rather than having an actual tangible effect on the person/game/world.

You could probably count the number of suggestions that NQ actually implemented from that forum's multitude of posts on one hand... and still have your middle finger spare.

If anything they warn NQ of what the players intend to do with the game and thus enable them to predict likely use cases so as to implement strict limits and downgrades BEFORE server load increases and also likely help NQ dissuade new players from damaging the servers by signing up for subscriptions.

Hence the "Steaming" 150 concurrent players on... erm... steam.

Novean-61657 reacted to Knight-Sevy in Some tips for surviving while mining on asteroids in PvP zone.
I take advantage of the creation of this section to quickly resume some advice that I recently gave on another subject.

This is not a complete step-by-step guide. But a reminder of a set of safety rules.
=> If you want to transgress even a single point, be careful, it may be this one that will make the difference between your death or your success.

    - For your first outing use a small ship and tell yourself that you will die with it.
It will force you to use some things that you can lose and since the mourning of this ship is already done, it will affect you less if it really happens.

    - Always to reduce the price of a possible loss, asteroids are in space, only go there with a full space ship (no hybrid/atmo ship). You can also use pieces that have already lost 1 life.

    - Don't bring your home with you ! Granny's porcelain dishes should stay safe at Haven.

    - You can already go to an asteroid discovered several days ago.

    - You can discover a roid, but don't mine it, come back later in the week.

    - Do not keep your DSAT on your mining vessel. Discover the asteroid and come back with a ship without this DSAT.

    - Don't go to the biggest roid (exotic/rare)

    - Do the astroids 1 by 1. Loot => Go home
Do not chain asteroids one after another.

    - Do not be too greedy, limit your mining time.

    - Try not to take any "pipe" road on the way back

    - Do not dig to bury and hide your ships. All construction remains visible to radar and can be destroyed. You are not Han Solo in star wars.

    ----------------------------------------------

If now you want to defend yourself during an attack and not use a "disposable" ship.

    - The first : Arm yourself and go there with friends Don't Go PvP Alone If You're Inexperienced

    - Somebody's gotta keep an eye on the radar all the time

    - Use 1 ships for 1 player

    - Respect the PvP meta of the game (we may have the opportunity to talk about it clearly in dedicated threads).

    - Use force respawn on a resurection node to quickly return to your ship when needed.

    - Use a dedicated ship to pick up the containers you will excort or separate the ores on all the ships.

    ---------------------------------------------------

If I think of anything else I will complete.

It looks like NQ has filed some patents for their "game engine".
These patents deal with spatial subdivision combined with object subscription techniques.
I read those patents, and they seem awkwardly  generic.
Basically every 3d onlinegame could / should use those things.
    Yet, the patents were granted.

So maybee, the point of the NQ business is not to run an online game at all ...

Novean-61657 reacted to NQ-Nicodemus in The DU FAQ
    General

Q: I'm having technical difficulties with the game, where can I ask questions about it?
A: If you need assistance or have problems with the game, you can reach out to other players and community helpers on our discord in #help-game-questions and #community-help or request help through the support system by submitting a ticket to support here: https://support.dualthegame.com/

Q: Is there only a “First Person” view available in Dual Universe?
A: By default, it will be the "First Person" view, yes, "Third Person" view is only available when seated in a construct..

Q: Can I skip the tutorial?
A: This is not advised as  a new player may miss out on vital content and instruction as well as some inventory items that may not otherwise be obtained through the normal tutorial progression.
Tutorial Navigation Commands:  Left shift + Page up will skip forward, Page down will skip back, and Left-Shift + Backspace will exit the tutorial.

    Q: How do I remove cores/elements/fuel?
A: Alt+LMB Click with the appropriate tool will preform the "opposite" action, i.e. Alt clicking with the place element tool would remove the highlighted element. Be sure you have enough inventory space.

Q: My construct landed upside down, how do I upright it?
A: Ensure you are not standing on the construct, equip your Maneuver Tool (looks like a box with two arrows circling it), click on your construct, and rotate it with WASDQE keys.

Q: Can we buy starter ships?
A: Yes, new players can buy a multitude of starter ships,  either in the official UEF Store or one or the many ships designed and sold by other players. This being in addition to the starter speeders provided during the tutorial at the start of the game.

Q: How do I repair my ship?
A: Check your tool belt at the bottom of the screen, it should look something like a welder. Switch to the tool and damaged elements will show up as yellow while broken ones will be red. Be sure to equip scrap after pulling out the tool and keep in mind that higher tier scrap will restore more HP per scrap.

Q: I died and respawned, where's my ship?
A: Your ship is wherever you left it in the game universe. Check your constructs on the map (F4) and place a waypoint to help find your way back to it.

    Q: Is there PvP everywhere?
A: . There is a “Safe Zone” where all players begin their journey in Dual Universe. Beyond the “Safe Zone” is PVP Space, any player that enters PVP space is subject to potential PVP actions, there is no “opt in /out” system for PVP

Q: Where is the "Safe Zone"?
A: The "Safe Zone" currently consists of a radius encompassing the planets of Alioth, Thades and Madis

Q: Can we build, design and produce outside the safe zone?
    A: Yes you can.

Q: How do I join an organization?
A: Players may join an organization by submitting a application to the desired organization via the in game pressing F3 Key to access the organization interface. Joining an organization will allow them to be given various rights and duties associated with that organization, and gives them access to any number of benefits specific to that organization. For example, joining an organization may give the player access to that groups constructs, community resources, resurrection nodes, and/or territory.

Q: I’ve run into a bug or potential exploit. What should I do?
A: Please report any bugs or potential exploits to the support team through the support system by submitting a ticket to support here: https://support.dualthegame.com/ . If you believe your bug can be exploited, please state “exploit” in the report.

Q: How can I make my ship's trajectory line visible?
A: Press X to cycle through the three available display options. The color line that you see indicates one of four different statuses: • Red: Ground collision • Green: Circular orbit • Blue: Elliptical orbit • Purple: Escape

Q: How do I activate my space engines?
A: Space engines activate automatically when there is less than 10% atmosphere. Check the upper right corner of your screen.
