Serbet reacted to Sethioz in THE FUTURE OF DUAL UNIVERSE - Discussion thread
I can see very bright future for DU, but not in the current state.

    1. make it free to play, but sell in-game money and skins for real money, i believe NQ would make more money using this method. this would also get much more players into game. there are already some 3rd party websites that sell in-game money, so it would be much better if NQ would just make it free to play and sell quanta themselves. more players, more sales.
for example you could still have monthly subscription, but instead of playtime, it would give you bigger daily reward. it could give you quanta + random item based on the subscription tier.

    2. optimize the game, DU is only game that i'm forced to playing in 1080p and i still get very poor framerates, like 25-35 is my average and that's with everything on minimum in 1080p. with L core ships i get 10fps or below .. it's cry-worthy how badly DU is optimized, or well i should say is NOT optimized at all. .. i mean its unplayable on HDD, this speaks for itself that there's no optimization done at all.

    3. put more effort towards fixing annoying known bugs, such as getting stuck in your seat in populated areas when you have atmo radar attached, this is very known bug and still no fix.
another issue is with ground in certain areas, where after flattening the ground, you get 1fps or below when landing there and occasionally ships sink thru the ground and blow up (like seen here - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uTRPEmAugmM )

    4. quick pvp system, where you don't lose your ship nor items when you blow up. some kind of a "matchmaking" system, where you can fly into certain place and enter a pvp zone via portal, where you can fight it out for rewards. this would make it possible for players to quickly do some combat without having to stress over losing their stuff, i believe this would greatly increase number of players, lot of players want some action, but dont want to spend days on making a ship and then losing it in middle of nowhere. perhaps you could call it "virtual pvp". it should have space and atmospheric fights. for that purpose you could have virtual planets (like the ones for daily challenges, where you are not directly among other players).

otherwise i think DU is amazing concept, i really like the mmo style building. i've played lot of builders, but it's just boring if you're all alone and there's no direct way of communicating with other players. for example space engineers is great and it runs much better than DU, but it's not mmo, you'd have to join a server and players are scattered all over the servers, so there's no general chat or ability for others to come see your base or buy your creations, that's why DU is much better in terms of playability.

And yet again, NQ has proven they're out of touch with how the players have been playing the game.

Setting up a factory to produce everything one desires is just the first step, for many of us, through ensuring we have a reliable supply of elements and material with which to build our ships. The market is unreliable or too time consuming. Why would we spend hours traveling to different markets to pick up various ship building parts when we can just mine ore from our tiles and make what we need?

We don't need them in the first place if all they want to do is ruin a game I have backed since day 6 of Kick Starter. There is game play, and then there is malicious intent. Which one do you think this is? I think it was malicious intent to do the game harm.  It only matters what NQ things and I and thousand of others full hardily support this ban.

Good day and pls go away.

Where did they report it? even so. DONT USE THE EXPLOIT.  If you report it and they fail to act it is what it is, you wont get banned.  BUT JUST BECAUSE NQ DIDN'T FIX IT IN 2 SECONDS DOESN'T MEAN LOLOLOL I GUESS ITS OK.  Use your fucking brain.

The fact that they Wrote Pls NO Ban, just shows that they knew that they would be banned. This is a Beta game still in development and part of being in the beta is your testing and reporting bugs. Which you should have reported it and left the building alone. This was just a blatant bad response that you knew would affect many things in the Beta, but you choose to do it anyway.

You knew you would be banned and you still did it. So you deserver what you knew was going to happen in the first place.

The devs are not players, their mistakes are just bugs. There was fair and broad warning before this:

While I find the heist inacceptable, I am shocked by the decision of permaban, a temporary ban (even long) would be better imo. Maybe this has been done to send a message to players for future abuses...

You know markets are not player structures and this rule does not apply here, common sense should have stopped you from stealing anything.

One of the long time discord rules is that you dont DM NQ directly because they cant/are not allowed to read DMs. In fact, random tagging and DMing gets you muted on discord.

Grow up. All they had to do was report the bug. If you use bugs for gain without reporting I have no sympathy for those banned. Good riddance.

Man guys, be real. They didnt expose a bug. They broke down a market including its link to the market system which was never intended to be deleted. They never reported, they only intended to break and remove.

Hilarious would've been leave it intact but add something funny to it like a meme.

Yeah I'm thinking they are gonna need to do an auto clean up every 24 hours type thing or it's gonna look like a junk yard. Object collision makes it hard to move around and some objects you can't jetpack over. No way this game will be able to support all tiles on a planet being full.

Fair point, but to scale they still need to know how much to scale it by, even if the service can auto-crunch the numbers how many new people are joining or have joined since the nda was lifted. That number is probably going to double; so even if they could add everything in tomorrow they may be back in the same boat as now by end of the month. Plus it's not technically a product launch its the next step in testing. this stuff is expected to happen. Promising the tech they did, they have made fair progress, it wasn't as bad as it is now during alpha and the stress testing. I feel people expect to much of a finished product from something they know is under development. You get to be part of the gears that can make this game great, do what a quality assurance tester would do, take the issue and write a bug report, then give them time to fix said issue. For example if you fly at speed sometimes the ground rendering in can cause your speeder to flip and jink about in the air. write a report then don't fly so fast so close to the ground. simple.

From what I recall most mmo's I played probably used upwards of 500mb-1gb / hour while netflix uses 1-3gb / hour of streaming. But netflix does not have the same back and forth, so while netflix may use more bandwidth, it does not have to crunch player position and mining updates. That pending action message just proves my point that there is a bottleneck they have to overcome that is probably a culmination of things that can't just be done quickly. Plus if you have traveled at any speed you can clearly see the time it takes to render the new areas; so part optimizing assets.

So like I said, I would expect it to be better in about 2 weeks from now after they had a chance to push changes and see the results. After all its only been 3 weeks for people who had alpha access and whatever keys they gave out, and only about a week with the new influx. Got to be realistic in expectations, even more so when projected needs are torpedoed and have to go to the money man to fix it.

I have wonder how I managed without YouTube ( due to NDA) and no tutorials... I have a huge factory and I build my own ships... Mystery... Ohh... By myself too... No orgs.
I have no advice except small goals... Make small goals, like  I need a wing... Or an engine..

I'll tell you something that may be kinda hard to accept given your negative feelings towards the game.
There's no other game out there that even comes close to what Dual Universe aims to be.
Right now we're sailing on uncharted waters where anything is bound to happen.
Server crashes , bugs and countless more gameplay interuptions.
In the end of the day it's all a matter of faith, and whether you trust the game succeeds or not is entirely up to you.
One thing is for sure tho, NQ's customer service has been impecable even when it comes to refunds.
Make a ticket on Support,  i'm confident you'll receive all the assistance you need.

Lets not rage against uninformed ppl.
They only commited 1 mistake, not understanding what beta is.
Its ok. They are entitled to be fustrated.

But know this, all those restarts and downtime are a result of NQ making progress with the game development.
Some projects out there dont have several update daily because they are dead.
We understand your fustration, but if you can keep with us for the 90 days you will see it was worth it.

I totally agree with you, it's a beta, and the game seems deeply unstable. Plus the subscription system makes this situation rather unacceptable.

However I think we can be indulgent: this is an indie studio, and a big release, which can't be perfect during the first day(s). Obviously this situation couldn't last for a long time without a goodwill gesture towards customers...

The situation is a bit better today, I could play during 10 minutes before a crash.

If you're not happy about paying to participate in a beta, why would you, y'know, pay to participate in a beta?

At least part of the function of the beta sub is to make sure the place isn't flooded with people who
    a) expect a finished game - it's not an unreasonable expectation that you would read about the current state of the game if you're blowing 20 bucks on it
    b) pop in, litter the place with never-to-be-visited-again bases and constructs then leave forever after a few days.

People have been paying to test this game for years. The bar just got lower, is all (20 bucks not 60).

There is no standard definition of what beta means any more in the game world. Or Alpha. Or "release" for that matter. The old definitions are gone forever, and nowadays you have to do research to find out the true state of a game. I attribute this to the evolution of crowdfunding models where the investors want access to the product *way* earlier than any studio-produced game would be allowed out into the world in any form. Development cycles for games like this have become extended because small development houses can now aspire to produce things that would have needed massive studios to even begin, in the "old days".

Me, I've had one single CTD in the entire week I've been in-game that wasn't network-related. There are bundles of other bugs, sure.

Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't have called it a beta release; the game's not even feature-complete (no Avatar-to-Avatar run-and-gun is probably the biggest feature that you couldn't call a refinement of something that's present in some limited bare-bones/embryonic form). I'd have moved from the "closed alpha" that the backers supported, to an "open alpha" stage. But I'm old-fashioned and still have memories of the time when Beta meant something.

And no, I bet you can get a refund if you open a ticket.
But next time you buy a beta or alpha product, expect a not finished game with bugs.
