Palis Airuta reacted to NQ-Nyota in THE JINGLE BELL HOP SLEIGH RIDE TOUR!
The Jingle Bell Hop Sleigh Ride Tour!

We know that many Noveans have been very busy since launch, so we've decided to do a special Jingle Bell Hop Sleigh Ride Tour in which we’ll be visiting many places around Helios to see all of the amazing creations!

    Details:

With (Saint) NQ-Nicodemus at the reigns and NQ-Nyota as your guide, we invite you to join us as we visit as many places across Dual Universe as we can. We will be hopping on/off the sleigh at different locations. The expected duration of these tours will be approximately one hour in duration for the sleigh voyage.

Each of the 10 Jingle Bell Hop tours will be different, where will we go? Well, that's partly up to you!

We need you to suggest to us the best places to visit (even if it's your build/place) via this form. All places we will visit will receive a special Jingle Hop Sleigh gift, so make sure to submit your favorite ones!

Here is the Jingle Hop Sleigh Ride Schedule:

    Thursday December 15th 20:00 UTC (3:00PM New York/Toronto time)
Friday December 16th 20:00 UTC (3:00 PM New York/Toronto time)
    Saturday December 17th 18:00 UTC (1:00PM New York/Toronto time)
    Sunday December 18th 18:00 UTC (1:00PM New York/Toronto time)
    Monday December 19th 20:00 UTC (3:00PM New York/Toronto time)
    Tuesday December 20th 20:00 UTC (3:00PM New York/Toronto time)
    Wednesday December 21st 20:00 UTC (3:00PM New York/Toronto time)
    Thursday December 22nd 20:00 UTC (3:00PM New York/Toronto time)
    Friday December 23rd 13:00 UTC (8:00 AM New York/Toronto time) & 20:00 UTC (3:00 PM New York/Toronto time)

These tours will all begin and end at The Institutes (which you can find on the Point of Interests) and will be available via VR when the tours start.

We’ll do our best to make sure these journeys are safe and secure, but we must tell you that we cannot be responsible for any lost items in case of emergency (especially if Nyota has the reigns)! So, we advise you to please arrive with empty inventories on your characters and make sure to leave your valuables in your containers if you plan on hopping on the sleigh with us! There will be a rez node available, just in case.

Palis Airuta reacted to TobiwanKenobi in UPDATE 1.2 ARRIVES ON DECEMBER 13TH - TACTICAL MAP, REVAMPED ASTEROIDS AND MORE
The asteroid stuff seems like an improvement. But not really what I was hoping for myself when I heard that asteroid hunting was going to get a rework. I've always wanted the DSAT coordinate system to be replaced with a DSAT that works like the scanner/direction scanner tools that are used for mining. That's a neat mechanic that requires some skill and intuition, and now it's barely used. Seems like a waste. Tracking down an asteroid could work just like tracking down an ore node.

I see some pvpers think that the removal of the discovered column will make it hard to find miners and kill them. But we haven't seen how the new roid spawning will work. If the roids are continuously despawing/respawning, there might only ever be 20-30 spawned roids and it will actually be easier to find miners.

The tactical map is cool as well but I hope you guys do it better than Elite Dangerous did it. Theirs can definitely be improved.
No need for the varying distances between concentric circles. They should have even spacing every 50km so that players can properly see how far away a contact is with just a glance at the map.
The contact icons should indicate the direction of travel and facing of the contact. (markers should as well)
The plane altitude lines should be dashed when below the plane.
There should be an indication of radar range at the top/bottom of the sphere in the form of a vertical circle that shows where the limits are.

I also hope that Lua wizards will have access to the data that the tactical map uses so that they can build user-made tactical maps into their hud.

I really like this direction. The whole process of tracking down unknown signals can be a lot of fun. A little less detailed information for asteroids and little more for wrecks is a great call in my opinion. Looking forward to the livestream and the follow up information on update 1.3

Palis Airuta reacted to NQ-Nicodemus in The Exchange: Blue Hall Opening and Reserved Lot Info
    Greetings Noveans,

With more submissions every week, The Exchange lots are filling up fast and we’re happy to announce that we will now be opening the Blue Hall!

We are also putting out the call to any players with an Exchange lot that was reserved from Beta that have not yet returned their shop to the Exchange since launch. You now have 30 days to submit your construct to The Exchange in order to maintain your lot reservation.

Any empty “Reserved Lot” will be released in 30 days on January 1st 2023 unless claimed by the current reservation holder and the shop submitted prior to this date.

The Exchange is available to all players interested in having a lot to advertise, recruit, sell, or any other creative endeavor you may want to share with the community. It’s easy to get to and is available as a Point of Interest (PoI). You can fly on over or VR in and see all of the new player-made shops for yourself. We hope you find the attractions, goods, and services you’re looking for!

If you’re interested in opening your own lot in The Exchange, please follow these steps:
Step 1: Read  this document carefully to learn our rules, build guidelines and requirements.
Step 2: Build your construct to a completed state, ready for review by NQ.
Step 3: With your XS core construct complete, fill and submit your application form.
If you’ve been thinking about having a lot in The Exchange, this would be a great time to get your submissions in!!

Palis Airuta reacted to NQ-Nyota in What Happened to Market Bots?
    Greetings Noveans,

As many of you may have noticed, there have been no Market Bot buy orders available recently. We wanted to give you an update about this topic.

The Market bots were initially designed to help kickstart the Helios economy for the launch of Dual Universe. It gave all Noveans a chance at earning more quanta at the beginning, in order to jumpstart the global in-game economy.

We have been closely watching the amount of quanta obtained selling to the Market Bots and we have determined that Market Bots are no longer needed and this ability has now been turned off, which means that players will no longer be able to sell to Market Bots.

    A note from NQ-Entropy:

Just to establish some background, before Market Bots started running out, the T1 ore buy orders were the first quanta faucet in the game economy, with missions coming in second. Another point of note is that since the start of the game the total amount of quanta in the game has never stopped climbing. It was honestly a scary level of inflation for the early state of the game.

One of the reasons we had mentioned when we did the release wipe is that the economy was in trouble and the state and health of the economy is something we are paying especially close attention to after wipe. While we didn't communicate on this, and perhaps we should have, is that we knew we needed bot buy orders on launch, but we were unsure as to if and when we were going to refresh them. We know that there was some confusion about this and we do sincerely apologize for any miscommunication. However, it has become apparent that keeping bot orders refreshed would not be a good thing for the economy, and ultimately the game at large.

So let's talk about the game itself, there's a couple of things I want to mention. The realities of a game with a pseudo-economy and a real market is that we are in a basic version of supply and demand. If the supply for a resource is too high, the cost will fall. Unfortunately, it was too idealistic to think that everyone could free-farm a T1 ore territory cluster and make guaranteed (and quite high) profit. On average ore buy orders were seeding 3 to 4 times as much quanta as was being sinked by territory taxes.

The second thing I’d like to mention is that for most players there is no requirement for your territories to always be online. HQ territories still allow you to build and run industries. The only thing onlining a territory does is activate mining units and if it is unprofitable to do so, you may choose to offline/HQ your territories.

Territories and mining units were never meant as a means to print infinite money, sustainably, with no risk and limited effort. The tradeoff you are making when activating a territory and running mining units is paying tax for access to resources. What you do with those resources, and what is possible with those resources is up to you, and to an extent, the state of the game and its economy. It may be that it's a good time to make a profit on the market, but it may also be that you just need extra resources for honeycomb, scrap, or materials to run industries and make items you need.

If it is the case that the supply exceeds the demand, and as a result of that, prices sink, then it may be that the best solution for you is simply to go buy those cheap ressources at the market and take advantage of the surplus of resources. The more people do this, then demand should rise, and so will the cost, until we find some sort of equilibrium.

Adding another thing: Ultimately one of the main things that matter in all of this is fundamentally balancing our supply versus our demand. When it comes to T1 ore, the barrier to entry is incredibly low, even a starter character can have a basic mining unit setup over a couple territories in a few days. The question is, how many people as a rough percentage of the player-base are needed to supply the game with the resources that all players require? We fundamentally don't expect all players to need or want to gather resources, that's why markets exist. The real question is if that number is too high and too low. The issue that we are seeing now I believe is that while bots were still active, mining units were a good form of income for everyone, because the prices were artificially pumped up. That will not be the case anymore and we will have to find some form of equilibrium between people willing to farm resources and people who ultimately would prefer to buy them at a competitive price. For those staying in the MU field, as with any competitive endeavor, it will come down to organization, talents and preparation to stay competitive if you truly wish to make good profit selling ore from MU.

The counter-balance is that if resources were ever too expensive and demand was higher than supply, either due to some sort of market interdiction, or other similar phenomenon, anyone is free to pay for a couple territories to start flowing resources into the economy to rebalance the supply and demand or to acquire resources at a “cheaper” price.

It could be that it requires too few people to supply the game with the resources it needs, and in that case, we have levers we can ultimately use to change the balancing of the game and make the demand higher, such as making crafting more resource demanding, or introducing more element sinks.

Finally, a note on buy and sell orders. We understand that without infinite buy orders the market feels less fluid. This is the reality of the size of our economy at this point in time. People will have to get more used to utilizing buy and sell orders as opposed to instant buy and sell. Don't get tricked by players putting up low buy orders, put up a sell order at a fair price and people will buy it. Make no mistake, people out there need ore, and are willing to pay for it.

We understand many of you enjoyed using the Market Bot orders, but ultimately this amount of quanta flowing into the economy could not last. We will be continuing to monitor the in-game economy very closely.

Palis Airuta reacted to NQ-Wanderer in RESET: HOW TO PREPARE
    Hello, Noveans!

With the launch of Dual Universe a month away, we want to talk about how to prepare for the upcoming server reset.

We’ve outlined the parts of your gameplay that you’ll keep post-reset in our announcement video and in the letter from our Creative Director. Today, we want to expand on that and discuss how best to prepare for the reset and how to get the most out of it.

    PREPARE YOUR CORE BLUEPRINTS

Make a Core Blueprint of every construct you want to keep and make sure that you store it in your nanopack or in a container on a construct that you own, though we advise that you keep them in your nanopack as it’s the safest place to store them.

If you have Core Blueprints in the care of others or in other locations around Helios, don’t forget to gather them, should you want to keep them. Being the original owner of a Core Blueprint has no impact on Core Blueprints outside of your possession. You will keep only those Core Blueprints in your nanopack and owned containers.

The same applies to organization-owned Core Blueprints. If you’re a superlegate of an organization, make sure that you store your Core Blueprints in your nanopack or that they’re stored in a container on a construct owned by your organization, though again, we advise that you keep them in your nanopack.

    PREPARE YOUR ORGANIZATIONS

Make sure that each organization you want to keep has a player as its superlegate. Any organization without a player as its superlegate will be lost at the reset.

Make a list of members you would like to reinvite after the reset. Though any organization with a player as its superlegate will remain after the reset with its Core Blueprints, Name, Logo, and Manifesto intact, membership will be reset.

You can use the in-game contacts system (which will remain after the reset) to keep track of your members or simply make a list outside of the game.

DON’T WASTE TIME PREPARING YOUR MINING UNITS

We will reset the ore distribution on each body in Helios. To find good spots for your mining units, you’ll need to re-build your Territory Scanners and hunt the tiles down. None of your pre-reset knowledge of hotspots will be valid post-reset.

PIONEER PACKS AND THE TALENT ACCELERATOR

The Pioneer Packs' items will be delivered in the first month after launch. If you’d like your collectibles, you’ll need an active subscription, and you’ll need to log into the game during its first month after release to receive them.

The talent point and quanta awards will be given on the final day of each month for the first six months of release. Again, you’ll need an active subscription to receive them.

Finally, if you've subscribed to the game, ensure that you have at least six months of talent training queued up. The talent point accelerator event, which is open to all players, will boost your talent point acquisition in the first six months of launch by:
100% for the first month 50% for months two, three, and four 25% for months five and six
The launch of Dual Universe will likely be the last time in the game's life where the economy will be an even playing field. Though beta players and backers will gain some advantage by the end of the six-month launch period, the start of the launch will see every player on the same starting line. There’s never been a better time to join!

We’re excited to see you in Helios on the 27th of September. In the meantime, don’t hesitate to share your feedback on reset preparation here.

Palis Airuta reacted to NQ-Wanderer in Grid Snapping - Announcement
    Dear Noveans,

We have a brief update on the upcoming changes to the blueprint deployment tool.

We had hoped to implement the grid-snapping feature at launch or in the first update after launch, but we’ve encountered a delay. We recognize that this is an essential tool for players to rebuild their multi-core constructs, and we’re working hard to implement it. You can expect it in one of the first updates after launch.

The voxel swapping and element omission features are still arriving with the launch.

Thank you for bearing with us. Rest assured that this is one of our top priorities.

RESET ANNOUNCEMENT FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQ)

Q:  As you are resetting the game progress, does this mean Dual Universe will be released at the same time?
A: The reset will be done very close to the official release of Dual Universe. A few days before official release, the Live server will enter maintenance mode, and during that time, the reset will be done.

Q: How do I add game time to my account if it is not working with Xsolla?
A: We are aware of the issue regarding the cumulation of game time when going through Xsolla. We are currently working on the issue. As a workaround for the time being, you can purchase game time codes from our official partner Markee Dragon.

Q: Will there be an Early Access or a Head Start session for those who have paid to play so far?
A: There will not be an early access or head start, everyone will start at the same time. We want to keep it as fair as possible with new players. All players will start on the first day, after the maintenance for the official release.

Q: Will we be able to choose between Haven and Sanctuary in the new FTUE?
A: At launch, everyone will start on Haven during the FTUE. However, players who have an additional Sanctuary Territory Unit as a reward from a Supporter Pack they pledged, will be able to settle themselves on the Sanctuary moon.

Q: What exactly do we get to keep with the reset?
A: While the server is going to be reset, there are several things that will remain with you. For the entire list, please read all about it here.

Q: Will it be the last reset?
A: One reason for the reset is linked to the release of the game, and that's a one-time event. Do we plan to do another reset in the future? Absolutely not. We've done everything we can think of to make sure that this will be the last reset. We have continuously worked to fix the issues that generated the reasons for this reset and this is the last planned reset for Dual Universe.

Q: Will we get to keep territory scans? Also, even if we don't get to keep scans, will the same tiles have the same resource levels after the wipe or will it all be reset and randomized?
A: No, ore will be redistributed across planets after the reset, and your scans will be removed in the reset.

Q: You said you're Resetting Sanctuary constructs too. Does that mean Gold Backers will reset and do the new FTUE, and receive the new Starter Constructs & Speeder?
A: Yes, everyone will do the new FTUE and everybody will have an outpost and a Speeder of their choice on Haven. It will be possible to claim a tile on the Sanctuary moon only if you have a Sanctuary Territory Unit from a Supporter pack (at least for the time being).

Q: Will there still be Daily Login Rewards after release?
A: Yes, for the time being we plan to keep the Daily Login rewards, but we reserve the right to adjust those daily rewards for in-game economy balance, if we deem it necessary in the future.

Q: Will players who are banned by using exploits have their bans lifted?
A: If the account was given a permanent ban, it will remain banned. If it was temporary, it would end at the date it was scheduled to end.

Q: When you say "You’ll also keep your Core Blueprints after reset" do you mean those core BPs that we are named as Creator in the BP, or all core BPs we have in our Nanopacks or personal constructs, irrespective of who the Creator is?
A: The creator of the blueprint is irrelevant to keeping it, if a core blueprint is in your nanopack or a container you own, you keep it. The creator of the core blueprint is not relevant and not considered in the keeping system.

Q: Will we get the magic blueprints we were promised at the start of Beta to replace our constructs after launch?
A: Magic blueprints generate elements in the game out of the blue, they are not crafted from resources produced within the game. When in small quantities, MBPs are acceptable, but in large amounts, as it would be at launch, it would jeopardize the starting economy. And thus we won’t be giving out magic blueprints.

Q: Will there be any bots that sell elements after the reset?
A: Yes, because with the current data we have, selling ores to the bot is one of the most used ways to earn quanta in the early game and removing that option would slow all of you down. Same for buying from Aphelia, it'll help you start quicker as you will need to recreate industries at release.

Q: Will the memberlist of each organization be wiped?
A: Yes. While only organizations without a player in the superlegate positions will be deleted, only the superlegate will remain in each organization. It will be up to the superlegate to re-invite all their members.

Q: Are the Pioneer Pack Talent Points and quanta paid out at the start of the month?
A: The pack rewards will be available at the end of each month (for the first 6 months), so that all players, new and old, start at the same pace.

Another idea for NQ, or rather a question (because it's still a big question mark on my side, why you are not able or willed to keep that one promise):

While I've already mentioned the idea of making an application process for STATIC projects, in order to preview magic BPs ... why not making those magic BPs time-based - meaning giving them a time stamp, so that they are only spawnable after six months?

With the previewing process, you avoid any unnecessary element hording in magic BPs (you could even remove them completly from BPs, making them honeycomb-only, as described in my previous post too). AND you give everyone the same starting conditions, without any advantage for veterans whatsoever.

Would be nice hearing you talking about this specific topic. Though, my hopes are fairly low-key ...

Absolutely, in our tests without schematic purchases it only takes 14 days from day  zero to get DSAT, Territory Scanner and a production line of Territory Units. One month after that all the high yield tiles will be taken by the fastest first wave of players. A closed game loop four weeks after launch is in no ones interest.

Long time contributers are rewarded with the kickstarter backer pack they choose. Anyone participating in a kickstarter or even a Beta also knows that they are contributing to the development of the game. Because that is what you agree with when you sign up. The reward is a fully functioning kick ass game, if you're lucky. Because that is what I signed up for. If they need to spend time comming up with some special reward for me I'd rather have them spend that time on improving the game. Besides they do a great job in rewarding people with their community digest program. Plus we get our names in the credits somewhere, not sure about Beta players though.

By far the best choice you could have made. Especially with the introduction of the pioneer packages. Well done. Obviously not everyone will be happy but for the long term this is gold. Now you can really get handsy with the ... best ... features. Anyway I'm curious where this is going and how the Dual Universe will evolve.

    01.
Make all ingame windows moveable and minimizable to a small rectangle at the lower screen border.

    02.
Allow different types of smileys inside all chat channels with exception of HELP and LUA.  Example:    : - ) would give a smiling smiley.

    03.
As players want to play at each day and time of the week, so should GMs available at all times.

    04.
Text size (game, chat window) needs to be scalable so some players (like me) can stop using a zoom lens.

    05.
Du Inventory / Marketss should allow search phrase with the asterisk placeholder.

    06.
Colorizing of element areas should be possible (NQ-predefined textures, or player-made texture files).

    07.
Water in shower and sink, interactable sink. More household machines, like microwave, oven, etc....

    08.
No more game changes that add more hardness and frustration to players, for now. Instead, any changes should add to the fun and pleasure of all players as DU needs again more playing persons and less bad feedback with wide outreach.

    09.
Add an option for players, to make the frame around selected (marked) voxels more (and less) visible, especially during bright daylight on light-colored honecombs, and also to make the grid of a core more or less visible.

    10.
Notification that someone talks to you or wants to add you to a contact list needs to be more visible, maybe flashy until acknowledged.

    11.
Heck, please use a better soundtrack for the loading screen than just the lonely, sad weeping trumpet we get now - get inspired by Vangelis and Jean-Michel Jare and Ennio Moricone.. Offer various soundtracks or allow players to paste their own soundtracks into soundtrack subfolders ("Attavked", "Achived", "Flying", "Building", "Market", etc.).

    12.
LUA Editor - as the selected slot is highlighted with a vertical yellow line, so should be the selected filter.

    13.
Asteroid Tracker - sounds and movement must be endable.

    14.
Make the existing hovers working on the seafloor, too. Example: hovering above water, then reduce hover thrust, but when reaching 0%, instead it then starts with 100% underwater hover thrust.. You can further reduce thrust until you are landed on the seafloor. To rise again, increase hover thrust to get maximum altitude above seafloor at 100%, but then when increasing further the hover starts with the above-water/land thrust values and starts hovering above water (or if you move your ship, above land). This switch between underwater and above works only when the ship is above water bodies, like lakes and oceans.

If I remember more things, I will add them to this list.

I think the above comment from Deckard was in the context of "we have dates we have to hit" in the Q&A on schematics they sated "there is not enough time" for PTS. These are just facts and I am presuming they have chosen the most expedient option based on time. They know more that we do what is possible with the time and resources available. We are not qualified to comment on that, we simply do not know.
Now we can go on and on about what NQ should have done but that is not helpful at this stage. They spent a lot of dev time trying to make holes in the ground work, apparently we like holes in the ground, apparently that does not work. Lets move on.
    What can we do?
We can try to influence NQ to get as many QoL improvements in before release.
We need more slots (not more alts)
We need T1 product without schematics
    We need ...
These are small dials that NQ can do easily.
    Lets focus on that

Looking at your other replies, you may not understand the main issues here. The biggest issue is consumables are now a super premium. Some schematics take too long, may be a bit too expensive once a economy reset happens. The other big issue is there is no real removal of elements aside from PvP, which lets be real, its a REALLY small portion of the community that pvp regularly (whats left). Fixing the overflow of elements and what will eventually be a lack of fuel and warp cells is some of the core issues aside from server stability that needs to be looked at.

    Agreed.

Here you are only partially correct. While players did previously have the option to do as you have suggested, they will now instead have the option to sell their copies to other players.

It is most certainly not a perfect 1 for 1, and it isn't hard to see that it will annoy factory players by giving them what is functionally a level of "upkeep-play" akin to mining calibrations... We'll need to see how it goes, but NQ really should be careful here, we don't want parts of the game to turn in to a job.

I love this game, it has captured my heart like no other. I have seen the massive potential from the first time I played. I have always had this wistful fantasy of what it could one day be.

Over the course of the beta, there have been many changes, the game has become much more stable, and these changes touch on many different avenues of gameplay. One area that doesn't seem to have received any attention at all however, is making the game more social.

The best memories I have in DU involve coming together with other players. It might be pure shenanigans, or to mine together, or maybe to build collaboratively.

All of the scenarios I mentioned eventually stopped happening. There are many aspects of this game that heavily incentivize players to do particular things. For example, taxes heavily incentivize players to make money, not to hang out with friends and race ships.

How can we expect there to be any social scene in the game when both carrot and stick are being used to drive people toward things that NQ wants us to do? We can build really awesome creations, player designed marketplaces full of gorgeous player made ships, but how do we get the bustling "living" feeling in the world, where people are together in an area, like is shown in promotional material and has been spoken about as a desire of NQ through development?

In my opinion, if this game is going the route of having so many costs and those being balanced with carrots that the players will want to pursue, then there needs to be a currency or commodity for socialization. My proposal is that some form of influence system is created, which will reward players and orgs that contribute to projects that cause players to gather and build together.

This system would also need to provide a benefit to players that visit these areas. We currently have a job system that lets us hire people to pick up our market orders and deliver them to us, without ever seeing the hauler. Super convenient! It does not feel like a massively multiplayer game however, when we never go to a place and see other people.

Now if we had player created market areas (these types of locations have already been created, but many get no traffic) we could incentivize players for using them. Builders that gather and build with other builders that have accumulated some influence, could grow their influence. Orgs that provide these market areas could gain influence as people visit. The visitors could gain some small degree of influence by just shopping.

There really are a lot of directions this could be taken. Maybe an very influential player or org might see a benefit from other players claiming hexes around them, and also building influence. The core driver of this player interaction should be rewarded for helping players gather. Players should in turn be rewarded for their part in creating this living part of the game world. Maybe the most influential player/org in the area gets reduced taxes, or a portion of the tax revenue of those tiles around them?

I leave it to you to flesh out the mechanics and how the rewards should work, but I will suffice it to say that players have been asking for social features for a long time, and now that the game is less free-form and you are strongly encouraged to do specific –profitable– things, we really could use a reason to interact, now more than ever.

PvP doesn't play any significant role for DU right now. And that is why element destruction in PvP is just not enough. The majority of the players are not involved in any PvP action at all...

I will be brief as I also do not want to detract from the main topic. That particular wiki page was last updated in September 2017 so it is indeed very out of date. With that said, the door is open if anyone would like to contribute to, or help maintain, the DU wiki.
