ShioriStein reacted to Kuritho in Nuclear Weapons and Player Experience
    Let's state the facts:
-Nukes make the bigger org even more heavily favoured in battles.
-It could allow a smaller org to blow up an entire city with thousands hours of work (and yes, the argument that "they should've defended" is a bad one).
-People will be turned off by the game if we have WMDs.

Now, you guys think that Dual Universe is a hyper-realistic physics simulator. No, it's not. It's a game.
If DU adds these, I'll create the Church of Atom. Of course, Novaquark is pretty smart so they'll never add nukes.

Yes and do you know what keep people not to nuke each other right now in the world ? Public opinion, consequence so great ( everyone got nuke ), humanity (what you tell your people afterward ? You nuke million of innocent because some Oil ? ) And so glad because of that we dont have to witness Nuclear Judgement day ... for now.

And DU is a game, all of the reason for holding using nuclear weapon will be non exit. IF something can, they will do it. I can imagine people nuke everything ... for fun of course or some reason.

The focus isn't on you - If you don't claim a tile then noone will instantly know you're there. But ppl like me will try to find ppl in their hideouts. Yes there are thousands of players and in that alone is a huge advantage. Ppl will have a hard time finding YOU anyway. But you can't hide forever and shouldn't bei allowed to do so. Only when you take extreme measures like flying far away, Not building big things, Not claiming territories and other stuff.

Claimed territory needs to be marked somehow though. Imagine entering orbit and doing a quick long range scan. Then you just knowe that 6 of 55894 tiles are taken. Nothing more. Then you have to fly there to get a better scan which allows you (because of skills, modules and such) to determine which org or player claimed that tile.

Who knows If there will be scanners for players? But structures like TCUs, bases and ships can be detected via radar. It would bei much more fun and better gameplay If they did some countermeasures to that. Build your base out of antiradarium to block radar. Then the guy needs to do a thermal scan. If you have a major mining base there which needs alot of heat to run (furnaces) then you'll emit thermal energy which can be detected. If you build so deep that even that is blocked then you still need electricity which could emit EM-waves which could bei detected via some other scanner.

All those scanners and countermeasures would need special skills and special modules, need energy and fuel to balance them. Such a system would be way more fun to have because it doesn't make you inherently stealthy or inherently good at detecting others but it would need critical thinking, good planning and actual work to stay hidden or detect others.

Yeah, that's pretty bad gameplay mechanics right there. If they would do such a thing, everyone (including big Bad orgs) would abuse that system to just stay hidden. Only available to small orgs? Just split that huge org into smaller pieces via rdms and take full advantage of that stealth system. Just available to players without orgs? Why give them a huge advantage in a Dog eat dog world?

What they COULD do is a fine tuning with scanning mechanics. Like thermal scans or radar waves. Hide your Base well with a special voxel made out of antithermium. Then ppl would need to use other means to scan for your base. Or craft your ship out of antiradarium and ppl won't bei able to detect you via radar. Whatever the mechanic - you have to balance it. There should not be a 100% safe solution which would take others years to find you. Days? Maybe. 100%? No.

Emergent gameplay is mean anything can happen at anywhere any time. 2 Big Safe zone is enough, a life without some tension moment will be pretty boring (well atleast it is for me).

@Aaron Cain Do you have land for hire or Apartment, house, ...etc for hire  or for sell on your moving city ? If then will i have insurance if anything bad happen like AirLock sudden blow up and sweep me and my ship or on the next login i see my place where should be my house is a hole after City take a full strike ?

Yup, and that's possible in the safezones that's why they're there.
To let ppl develop their ship/tech in peace so PvP ppl can usw that to get an advantage.... If you want to put it that simple

ShioriStein reacted to Eternal in Reward steps toward environment recovery after mining in the DUniverse!
I agree with @ShioriStein, as much as we would like to have the benefits provided by environmental responsibility and consciousness in certainty, this is still an Open World Sandbox game, which means these actions and decisions are still up to the players. The moment we introduce a reward-system towards this implemented by the game itself, it becomes a "mandatory" thing even if they are not forced - thus it limits the "fully editable universe" this game is supposed to provide.
A smart and competent individual and organization in this game who owns territory/s that is designated for settlement and establishment (whether for private or community) will take the responsibilities that you mentioned to keep the area/environment as organized as visually possible because it is their own territory.
I, for example, as an organization member and not a legate, wants to be in an organized organization. The moment that I see an organization fails so bad in such aspect is when I leave because I see it as contrasting to what my goal in this game is. Communication is also mandatory to me. It doesn't matter to me how large an org is, if they fail in these aspects, I don't wanna be in them.
If environmental impact becomes a concerning issue brought by mining, a country which is a sovereignty must implement a provision like mining law in which a mining firm must obtain the required legal paperworks and abide to the law/term. This is called having a process or system. Just like in real life, to keep things organized, we have a system. Without a system to account for, do you think people will voluntarily take accountability when they could get away with corruption? Having systems are necessary for organization, having unnecessary systems on the other hand is bureaucracy and red tape. It is our challenge as a civilization to develop and improve such systems, which defines our level of development.

An off topic idea, but I imagine larger capital class transport ships moving smaller non-ftl ships around, especially in the early days when it might be only available to the groups that can put in the funding and resources, etc, since I feel that the first version of such tech will be quite large and not fit for players personal ships. Only after the tech has been expanded upon and potentially shrunk down (if that's the case, only my minds conjecture) would it be more readily available for one man armies.

A fun thought to ponder, carry on.

I think the Beta stage is where you check thing and edit stats so it not got too OP or too Weak, balance thing. But i think what NQ want to say that in release there only ONE spawn point system, not mean there only ONE SYSTEM for a long time after launch.

NQ confirm there will be a very basic FTL system , more complex will come along with the stargate expansion i think. The point of StarGate isnt allow you to instant build and go to other system but to reduce the time go between 2 system and thus it need you go to the other system first to ping a location there then build a StarGate at the first system so in the end it still require FTL to build Star Gate.

Please no survival additions, there are enough games in development that are marketed like that. DU is not.
But to still give positive feedback:
Hunger, make it a buf that makes you run/work harder Thirst, see hunger  Disease, could be interesting, but nothing lethal, flu or something that makes a planet ofr region work slower/run slower would be a thing Oxygen, yes and no, adding oxigen makes it more real but also will add to server complexity Radiation, I wanted to say no, but it could be rather interesting to add this, if someone then nukes a place or a meltdown occures the surrounding area is kinda worthless. Could be a thing in warfare Bleeding, make it a buff as hunger And as said previous, there are alot of items about this

that's the same as before really. With that you force everyone to do that stuff (because noone wants to run around with 75% health) instead of rewarding ppl who do it.

A better way to do it would be to reward players if they put time into that kind of stuff. That planet might have some bacteria - invent/research/craft some kind of drug out of them to get stronger/faster/more agile/more accurate/gain a bonus on some stat.
Radiation might be there - invent/research/craft some kind of shield/module which uses that radiation to get stronger/faster/more agile/more accurate/gain a bonus on some stat.
    You get the idea

With such a system ppl will ofc use as many of "upgrades" those as possible to get an edge over others (thus you could argue it's still "forced" upon them) - but the difference is Jimmy McCasual will not feel overwhelmed and slammed by the grind and vast possibilities of DU

What attracted you to Dual Universe?
I love EVE Online. The deep lore and sandbox universe combine to produce some amazing emergent gameplay. But I also really enjoy custom crafting, a la Minecraft. DU seems to me like it could be the best of both worlds.

What inspired you to become about of this fabulous growing community?
The community! My favorite part of my time in EVE Online has been the tremendous community. It can look pretty rough from the outside looking in, but the players there are mostly wonderful. And my corporation home, Signal Cartel, is second-to-none in terms of fun activity, caring support, and genuine friendship. We say in EVE that the best ship is friendship, and I hope to be part of making that true in DU, as well.

What do you hope to accomplish in this community? Any sort of in game goals you have?
I love the non-PvP service-oriented gameplay that we have established in Signal cartel in EVE Online. I'm hoping to adapt that outlook to DU. What does search-and-rescue look like in DU? (Will there even be a need for it?) What will it mean to be neutral in DU? To be of service to the entire community in fun and creative ways? And I cannot wait to get my hands on the LUA scripting capabilities. We do a lot of fun in-game RP events in EVE, and the possibilities of what we can do in that regard with the scripting options is literally keeping me up at night in anticipation.

I'm bought in to be part of the Alpha launch this fall/winter. I am super-excited to be a more direct part of Dual Universe!

This thread was to be questions about the discord on a whole, instead it has become nothing but people attacking the bot and other trying to clarify/defend its use. NQ has made its stance known, i don't understand why this thread has gone 2 pages over this.
It is the same arguments over and over again. If you don't like the bot because you are paranoid/skeptic/or personal issues with it being made by a community member that is fine. You are entitled to your opinion.

However, might i suggest that if you are only going to continue talking about the bot then maybe take it to a different thread and let this thread get back to the purpose it was meant for.

TL;DR: if you don't like the bot or discord....don't use them and move on.

if as JC has said previously something along the lines of 'ship weapons will have to be manned'

instead of one man controlling some weapon system similar in size to battleship turret perhaps larger weapon systems would require multiple people to operate it
such as in this example of a 16in 3 gun mount turret from an iowa class battleship hopefully this will illustrate my idea

however i do accept that you could thin out the number of people required and attribute it to 'technology' my meaning being for example now we have an invention called an autoloader and so there is in some circumstances no need for a gun loading man
so ultimately in the distant future on Alioth we have antigravity and 'lightbridge' like forcefields you can expect we would have more machinery available to us to mechanize our weapon systems
so say what used to take 30 man to operate  now takes 3

perhaps also you could take the weapon system further and have a munitions factory onboard the construct to supple the main weapon system with ordnance
that may not make very exciting gameplay though sitting in the bowels of a ship doing repetitive tasks

so i think something like separating the sensor information from the gun crews might be interesting for example those operating the weapon systems rely on accurate targeting information passed on verbally to them the gun crews themselves would have limited targeting information

but im not sure what kind of combat model JC has in mind from what i can remember its a stats thing  lock and fire im thinking of final fantasy and that doesnt sound very appealing to me personally
id prefer free fire where the ordnance goes where you aim it otherwise i dont understand how or why JC would add human manual control into the mix

in conclusion my idea is to have multiple people be required to operate larger weapon systems say one man to rotate the weapon another to elevate the weapon and another to fire it

smaller weapon systems would be one man

and even smaller still things like CWIS  close in weapon systems would be automated CWIS in this sense is only used as a form of active defense system to destroy incoming missiles or shells

The very large team of lawyers and accountants that this would force NQ to have would probably be cost prohibitive.

Game companies generally work very hard to have their in-game currency NOT be equated directly to real money so that it isn't subject to a countries finance laws.

For instance, in the united states, you would have to track every transaction, require real-id of every player, report to the IRS and the fed every transaction over $10,000. You would also wind up having to to collect assorted different sales taxes in half the states depending on where the seller or the buyer lived in the real world. etc etc etc.

Or, you would spend all your time in court trying to to prove why you didn't have to do those things.

Then of course, you would also personally have to worry about your income tax. If you did well in game, and made say $100,000 you would be required to declare that as income, and pay roughly $30,000 in US income taxes if you lived there. If you lived in another country your tax rate might be higher or lower.

But for sure NQ would be required to report to assorted countries the incomes of every player who lived in those countries.

And then of course, there is the very real possibility of NQ being declared an international bank, and being subject to all sorts of laws about international trade rates and money laundering issues.
