I have nothing against these events being possible, I certainly would say Empire only has themselves to blame.

Big issue with this thing is that it has nothing to do with gameplay, strategy, RP or anything else but wanting to be "that guy". Unfortunately, there's too many in the DU community wanting to be "that guy" and hope that they get the chance to see their name on Twitter ..

It's pretty much on-par with the M15 incident.. Players doing things just because they can, not because their is any reason or cause for it to happen. This is not The Judge handing CO2 to Goons.. It's kids playing with their lollipop.

Seriously, if someone makes a critique, you need to stop spewing the same company talking points.
And stop dogpiling.  No wonder so many people quit the game and new user acquisition is so low.

I mean it, especially Mason just wow.  I've never seen a community so good at pushing buttons.  I'm usually pretty chill and friendly, but WOW any time someone mentions that they dislike the schematics system, and I say "Yeah I know, it's pretty terrible.  If it were up to me, there'd be the basic tiers available for the factories so you could at least have fun trying it out to see if you wanted to invest all your time in those talents," I get fllllaaaaamed hard!  And eventually, I broke.  I said some damn dirty things in chat (which I do not regret, you guys were all being scumbags) but I swear, it's A BETA!  You're SUPPOSED to talk about the things that you think don't work right!  This is NOT the final product!

I'd heard in videos and read in articles that this community had taken a weird turn for leg-humping, but wow experiencing first hand with the dogpiles and the absolute jack-assery that pushes people to just say "Eff you and your animal soul" was...well I'm out.  You think the changes are good for the economy, eh, because more contribution means more production?  Well, you bastards are about as bad for the economy as can be, because you're turning people off who want to play the game in any other way than you exactly do.

    Deuces, douches.

Oh that's fine of you to say that, but no, it wasn't getting my feelings hurt, don't think I have many of them left at this point anyway.
It was the constant triggered masses dogpiling while I'm just trying to tell someone "I agree, and here is where I think the problem lies," whenever they say they are frustrated with trying to do basic industry and someone else tells them "lol then don't even bother, specialize in something else."

I actually really love the idea of this game and what it has done, but people being pricks to try and shout down anyone who says "yeah that's a shitty system, it needs to be fixed" is definitely turning people off.  Again, it's not just me, I saw warnings and just didn't think it was actually "a thing" until I came back and saw it.  People really, really, REALLY wanna defend this system and don't want it changed at all, despite that fact that it is fairly arbitrary and not fun.  It's a social mindset of "I did it, so you should, too!," despite the fact that MOST people did NOT do it, and were already pre-established before the new system was put in place.

It is not possible to build civilization, Boo or no Boo. Not in this game. This is more of a working concept of mining / building mechanics rather than a game.

Civilization does not just arise because someone wants it to. There need to exist very specific selective pressures for it to happen. Currently none exist.. here's a bigger meditation on the topic:

Civilization is the organization of individuals into social bodies due to selective pressures.

A non-exhaustive list of the characteristics of civilization include: social structure and hierarchy, efficiency, work organization, supply of needs
A non-exhaustive list of the emergent properties of civilization includes: technological innovation, sociopolitical development, cultural development
A non-exhaustive list of selective pressures that create civilization include: resource shortage, non-uniform resource distribution, geography, weather, proximity to neighboring civilizations, war, dangerous environment, dangerous neighbors.

Geography - Geography is a huge factor in civilization building, as it affects what type of climate an area has, what type of resources are available, what fauna and flora is is generated in a specific geography. Access to rare resources and constantly in demand resources also needs to be considered. Geography affects what kind of resources a civilization can generate and has heavy influence on its technological advancements as well as culture.
Currently, this does not exist in DU. It does not matter if you start at a base of a mountain or high up on a ridge, makes no difference if you are in the snow or on sand or underwater. Resource Distribution - Resources are not plentiful in the real world and they depend on geography. They are also not uniformly distributed. Certain kinds of resources are only found at specific geographical locations. A heavy concentration of a resource in one area may influence if a civilization can start in an area.
Currently, this does not exist in DU. T1 ore specifically is everywhere, and while different planets have different resources above t1, they are uniformly distributed (in a sense) with no other effects other than mostly uniform randomization.
Danger - This is perhaps the biggest selective pressure that gives rise to social groups that then become a civilization. Dangers from neighboring tribes will force individuals to make a group for protection. Dangers from wild beast and bad weather will force people into groups in order to survive. This gives rise to iterative development of technology that then allows the group to grow bigger, which allows them to develop more complex social organizations.
Currently, this does not exist in DU. Every planet has a safe zone around it, there are no animals, there is no weather or geographical / regional weather differences that might affect any outcomes. There is zero danger from anything other than yourself. And on and on I can go, there is a lot here. When you want to build a civilization game, one would think you'd start thinking about first principles and go from there... you know... figure out what civilization is and what factors cause it, then try to gamify it in a way that makes sense in an mmo context, given limitations of server tech and current technologies. None of this is happening. Based on the marketing material, it seems like devs/ JC believe that civilization is cities, etc... that's not true at all.. you can build cities now but no one will use them, there's zero reason to.

It is the fault of game design or lack thereof, not the fault of the players.

DU needs to take the first step and become a game before you can talk about taking ideas from other games, as is, DU has nothing game loop wise, its all just an attempt at simulation. NQ just wants to sit back and let their community do all the work for content creation because for some reason or the other, be it incompetence or lack of funding, they are unable to to create meaningful features for the project that could turn it into a game to retain players.

Thing is, all this stuff is "meat on bones", nice thing to have, when base is working.

    It was a dick move.
In the same way trowing a grenade into tower of players in CS is a dick move.
You saw something that could be funny.
You took advantage on the hope of ppl and you crushed every one's hope.

    Can you do that? YES.
Do most ppl do that? NO
What makes you special? You ok with doing dick moves.
Dont try to clean this up. They came to the forum, to open a new topic, to get attention for destroying ppls hope for a event.
This is not about a group being a snowflake. This is about another group needing to crush snowflakes to boost their ego.

    That said.
You are right. This is the game we have, this are the rules. You guys are free to be who ever you want in game. It does not matter if you are directly venting RL problems or if you are role-playing as a heartless terrorist, you have the right to do this.

For you, every action we do has a consequence. And those consequences dont change by winning this topic's battles.
This themed battle would in did be good pub on youtube. This was destroyed.
The one-sided loss of assets and work generated for this event, will be a catalist for more ppl to lose hope in the game and take a break from du if not leave forever.

For others, JohnnyTazer is not alone. There are hundreds of players like him.
They want to play this like ppl play dayz.
"shoot everything that moves, shoot to kil, shoot without any morals"
Rules, that you agreed to and promoted, allow it.
This is the ppl that will be left to build a civilization.

Yet they only want your blood, your scalp.

So, next time ppl like me warn you about the rules, about protecting new players, about "player driven" possibility to become "hell", dont call us trolls. Dont argument just to win a forum battle. Dont stay quiet while we do the battle alone. Dont think your little group will be the alpha male so you dont have to care about this.

But if you do those things above, dont complain now. You just got what you wanted.

But this is what all of you PVP lovers wanted.
If you all wanted for pvp to be free, unregulated in all places except sanctuary moon. This is it.
    This is unregulated pvp.
They dont care about you, your feelings or your event. And you support this rule set they used.

Most of you expected your little org to have a blast killing others, but now you are the pray.

Lol that clown JC actually has a PhD in AI and wont even do anything for this game?

Honestly players are not devs and we can only really use the tools we are given. Who in their right mind wants to go to somewhere to check out someones playschool playhouse you cant do anything with vs fighting some kind of AI alien armada, npc police force, npc vendors, npc military, npc dungeons, fight creatures in all those tunnels we dig vs what players make you cant do anything with?

Hell JC right now could just as well give NPC access to the same talent tree, same skills, same mining bot, and use auto piloting, and building, and whatever really and just ask the community to help build more AI scripts and we could easily have AI running in this game.

DU is boring, stale, and sterile for no other purpose other hten JCs wet dream of some giant EvE battles that will never happen because there is absolutely nothing to this game that isnt locked behind 27 years of que to finally have any kind of fun. There really is not much to the game as is and will continue to be no matter what they add. New solar system? Its going to get ransacked 10x faster than this one. Guild wallets, mission systems, and the other time wasted systems that have no real effect on this game unless AI is present since nobody will pay more than just doing things themselves and it changes nothing but dead on arrival mechanics. Gems? Whats the point when everythings been mined and nobody is going to really go splunking to find them. DoA too.

They could have spent the little resources they had actually developing a game and thought they knew better but guess not. They litterally could have probably done anything differently and it could actually be fun. But I guess they hate all the best parts about space exploration, sci-fi, high technology, aliens, and anything worth exploring, fighting, and pretty much anything resembling an mmo with a space theme for no real reason.

Supermega reacted to blazemonger in A German news outlet puts a false spin on DU's condition
There have been several rather positive publications around DU from sources I'd really expect to show amore realistic view of the state of the game. I'd agree that the sense this is all paid advertising more than truthful reviews is not misplaced IMO.

Another good example was a YT post by Bluedrake42 recently where I listened with amazement on what he was describing as it was nothing like what DU is currently and this guy is generally very realistic on his videos. Oddly he used only old, pre beta footage so I can only assume he never really played the game to create footage post beta.

Frankly, I would not be surprised at all if NQ is pulling some strings to try and paint a better picture for the game than where it actually is.. I also expect we will start seeing paid actors in game not too long from now, (game)designers NQ does/will pay to build "player made cities and communities" ..

    https://www.buffed.de/Dual-Universe-Spiel-57410/Specials/6-Monate-Beta-1366842/

    ^^ source article

Buffed.de, mostly known for WOW articles, has written a few pieces on DU before, and have been mostly positive. However, I and a few friends saw a part in a translated version of this article that stated something that could bring a set of attention to DU that is not needed at this time, that is until NQ fix their game.

1st section: "the world comes alive":

"Although the rush was already high at the beginning of the beta phase, more and more players were added over time and slowly but surely filled the world of Dual Universe. That had several positive effects on the game. For one thing, the world feels much more alive now. We no longer only encounter strange players in the central marketplaces of Alioth, the largest of the planets, but everywhere in the universe. Even the tiny moons of smaller planets on the edge of the solar system are now well populated."

keep in mind this was written on 02/13/2021, and right now that 3rd sentence cannot be any more wrong, alioth is a ghost town, madis and thades are abandoned, and any other planet besides maybe ion and lacobus have basically no inhabitants. That is all because of .23 and the major screw up NQ had. i might be blowing it out of proportion, but you get the jist'.

2nd section: "Large organizations have grown":

"But it's not just the individual players that make the world come alive. Giant organizations have been set up and grown over the months. Huge factories that produce spaceships on an assembly line and are operated by dozens of players are not uncommon. Huge freight transporters fly from moon to moon with a crew of several men, buy cheap resources there and deliver them to the many thousands of players who have established their home on Alioth. There is organized trade, a flourishing industry, and the first political intrigues between the largest of the organizations."

"giant organizations"... what, like 100-200 active players making up 5 different major orgs? compared to the 30K ish+ we had since launch in total? (in reference to sanc moon tiles), if you go to any market in the game, even the district markets on alioth, they are all dead, no one visits them anymore.

3rd section: "Schematics ensure more trade"

"The schematics in particular are responsible for the flourishing of trade. In the alpha and at the beginning of the beta, everyone was still able to produce everything, provided they had the resources and had the appropriate industrial equipment built beforehand, is no longer possible. More complex modules, which you cannot manufacture in your personal nanocrafter, but only in industrial plants, now require a so-called schematic. This is practically a set of instructions that you can use to explain to your industrial plant which module is manufactured and how. Without a schematic, even the most sophisticated production line is just a pile of scrap metal. You can get the schematics on the marketplaces for a chunk of the in-game currency Quantas. The more complex the module, the more expensive the schematic. You also need a separate schematic for each system. Anyone who wants to manufacture silicon from quartz in ten melting systems not only needs ten systems, but also ten schematics - which can quickly turn into money in large factories."

Excuse me, what? Anyone who has played the game most likely quit over schematics, or permanent destruction. why? schematics are 1. expensive, 2. tedious to setup, and 3. has almost entirely killed production of any goods not tier one. when schematics came out, a 7m item (anti-gravity generator S) had a schematic required to build it worth hundreds of millions, now that schematic is worth 76m as of the time of writing this, 10x the items worth is fair, ok, but the way they implemented them was ridiculous.

you can read more on the article and see for yourself, but here is something i noticed, none of that was labeled as opinion...

i have the feeling this was a commissioned article by NQ to Buffed.de, if it was, I read someone say that its illegal by German law to publish paid pieces, however i may be incorrect. (correction, if the article is noty labeled as a sponsored article and its found out to be then it is illegal, no where on the article does it mention sponsorship)

regardless of the legality, NQ needs to come clean because if this was paid that is scummy, make me feel like this game was a cash grab.
NQ I'm begging you, come clean and stop hiding that your game is dying, you still have a chance to dig out of the hole you made, please!

Here's my peace to add to this. Comrad's post brings up issues, but this is his final post.

He's been here since the beginning and this is his end. So, instead of a legacy of his final post being about issues, let me recount some of what he did.

He was there at the early start of the game. He was active on the forums, paving the way of discussion in the community. Comrad was invited to be apart of ATV, to be apart of this social game and the social aspects of this community. He made an org, a notch to call home for some time, before stepping up into greater aspects of the community. To be present in the time of memes(CSYN undoubtedly) and to be there at the end of others.

Comradmoco has helped this community greatly. He helped out and along with yamamushi helped make the Discord a community unlike any other in its hayday.

I must tell you all, Comradmoco has spent a great many numbers of hours helping out this community. The official discord, of which he has invested probably thousands of hours, is only the tip of the iceberg.

So, with all this in mind, I bid you farewell Comrad! May you find a greater project than this one to jump to o7

    Sup DUveans,

Just stopping by here to say my final farewell to everyone here, in discord, and in game that I had the privilege to be acquainted with or some, to even call friends.

I had a blast being along side everyone of you these past 7 years, watching this community grow from literally 0 members to a whopping 50,000+ of you. I had many fond memories building premature alliances, making in game hostile moves, watching orgs rise and fall, overall, nerding-out over every aspect of Dual Universe.

However, all good things must come to an end. I'm sad to say but due to recent announcements and the overall direction of community aspect of Dual Universe is partaking, per say, I must state my farewell from the community and Dual Universe completely (as a player and as Moderator, in Discord and other platforms). At this point, I'm not enjoying being part of a community that's not being nourished at its fullest or been ignored for so long. (That's just the tip of the iceberg) Regardless, I leave on good terms, hope you all have fun, wishing the best to everyone and Novaquark (Here's hoping for a fast recovery, community-wise)

    As always,

And then NQ will say something like <JC voice>Guys, we know this is an early version, but we will make it much better I promise</JC voice>. And then after some weeks of putting out fires from 0.24, NQ will go into silent mode again for 0.25, and we will be stuck with some subpar clunky mission system for a couple of years at least..

I would like nothing more then to be proven wrong. But all historical evidence point to the scenario I just described.

I predict that the mission system will just be an interface for what we are already doing (and probably a buggy one).  Mine and get paid, but less than you would if you just mined it yourself and sold it on the market.  Or maybe hauling stuff, which is VERY expensive to do.  There are only a few rich orgs who can afford to pay what it costs to do it and so far those guys hold all the cards so we will probably be hauling at a loss.

Like this great deal I was once offered...

A well known rich org offered me the opportunity of  using one of their haulers (after a hefty deposit) to deliver their stuff for free so I could maybe use that hauler for other jobs.  And even worse, that ship ended up having to be reworked because it couldn't even do the job.  What they really wanted was free testers and free deliveries. I already have an org full of haulers.  I have one of the BEST ship builders in the game in my org. What I don't have is people who want to actually pay me enough to make any kind of a profit to haul anything.

I doubt an interface to make the same kinds of deals with the same kinds of uber rich orgs will change much.  One way or another we are all destined to be slaves to those who cheat and exploit the system (and/or our fellow players) so they can just sit back and build whatever they want without having to lift a finger.

I already live in that world.  Not gonna play a game that wants to put me through the same thing in my free time.  I've about given up tbh.
