    Dual Universe State of Affairs
This is a quick overview of some of the oldest and current Top 20 organisations in Dual Universe.

Dual Universe State of Affairs - Pre-alpha (part 1) can be found in Outpost Zebra
Dual Universe State of Affairs - Pre-alpha (part 2) also available.

Many eyes were cast over this document to double check its accuracy, so many thanks to all those contributors. Also special thanks to the Outpost Zebra team especially @Falstaf that slaved away at getting it formatted so well.

Hi Malice and welcome to the official Dual Universe forum!
The answer to your question is: yes, totally! You will be able to build a ship with the shape you want!
Making the game in voxels was specifically meant to let player creativity go free when making a ship.
However, choosing an exotic shape might not make it easy to have an optimal efficiency.
It will be up to the builders to make the balance between design and efficiency

    Best Regards,
    Nyzaltar.

Oh my ... the assumptions ....

First off, there are almost 8,000 star systems in EVE, so that 30,000 rapidly turns into 3-4 people per system, often less. Compare that to DU where everyone will be in the same system for a while after launch. Even after a year or two, the DU game world will probably only have a dozen or so systems connected due to the expense and difficulty of building gates, so even 1600 ships would be 133ish ships per system assuming 12 systems.

Why is that a problem? If everyone wants to be a pilot then they could all fly single person ships and all be the pilots. Not every ship needs to be a six person cruiser, in fact having a variety of ship sizes in a fleet will probably be the norm.

Remember that there is a lot more to do in the game rather than fly around looking for fights, so if being on a ship isn't your thing there is lots of other stuff to do. That being said, I don't know where you keep getting the "sitting around for four hours waiting to push a button" thing ... see my previous posts for why that isn't relevant.

I think Pang_Dread summed it up well.

Sorry if it's not the kind of game you're looking for, but the multi-crew ship mechanics are a big part of why many of us backed the game.

I don't think anyone who pledged is sitting around here hoping that ships don't need crews.

We have two sprinklers watering a lawn:
There's one that's clearly superior. It can spread water further and faster and isn't going to break any time soon. It doesn't leak and is very reliable.
The inferior sprinkler is just terrible: short range, leaky nozzle, grinds gears, taints the water, and looks in bad shape.

But there's a problem: the inferior sprinkler is further up the line than the superior one. The inferior sprinkler is using pretty much all the water and the superior sprinkler is getting barely anything. With no pressure for the better sprinkler, it's unable to shoot much more than a dribble.

As a result, part of lawn is being poisoned and will die. The other part gets no water, and will die. The obvious solution is to get rid of the inferior sprinkler, unfortunately, the line appears to be set in concrete a few inches below the ground.

That's the issue we all face here.

Code24 reacted to yamamushi in Once Again.... The Reddit Community
The last time I brought this up, the person in question was quick to show up here to try and defend themselves for leaving the subreddit in such a poor shape, but as of now that person has been suspended from Reddit and the subreddit has once again become neglected (could have predicted that...)

So, again, I am posting this to point people towards the better subreddit -> https://www.reddit.com/r/dualthegame/  (I'm not a mod there)

The other one was seemingly completely abandoned, with a 10-day old Reddit account currently "in charge" of it and a bot account put in to keep people from trying to request it from /r/redditrequest.

Why am I bringing this up, again?

Because the success of Dual Universe depends entirely on the community and the way that it is reflected in various forms around the gaming world. It's hard to argue that Reddit doesn't have an impact on games, and there are plenty of vibrant Reddit Gaming communities out there that interact back and forth with devs and give the impression that their games are healthy (full of players) and still active.

If a random user were to come across /r/dualuniverse, they'd see months old posts sitting around, a completely unresponsive mod team, and a sidebar that to this day is full of incorrect information (the old mod refused to remove No Man's Sky as a related subreddit, for example).

That's a disappointment because of the work that the /r/dualthegame mods put into making their subreddit active and accurate, yet because one person buried their head in the sand and refused to lift a finger for their subreddit, /r/dualuniverse is going to continue to get more traffic and subscribers regardless of how bad it is.

    So why post this?

Because if we want DU to survive into the future, and to continue growing and be seen as an active community, we should do our part to continue directing people to what is the best reflection on it (and /r/dualuniverse is not it).

So if you're on Reddit, or you know Redditors who are into Dual Universe, point them towards /r/dualthegame.

And to the person responsible for the mess that is /r/dualuniverse, you should feel ashamed of yourself for leaving this stain on the community. Plenty of people reached out to you asking you to fix the subreddit, instead you wanted to feel this imaginary power over the community, refused to do anything about the mess you left, spread a bunch of misinformation about me on the subreddit and discord, and then got yourself suspended from Reddit leaving the subreddit in the condition that it's in now.

An artistic rendition of the five current largest orgs (TU, BOO, SI, CS, UL respectively) and how Alioth will look 24 hours after alpha launches. The small purple thing is the arkship.

The discussion around destructive mining practices got me thinking this. I don't speak on behalf of any org represented, this is simply an impression of these orgs that I had made based on what I've heard in discord in the past month and through recent videos posted on youtube.

This is a humorous take on things and meant to be in good taste. c:

Oh, apologies to Silverlight, I can't draw a spaceship so I did the next best thing. Enjoy.

Hello everyone, this is Shockeray, GM of Soul Nebula.

After waiting for an updated version of the original community map to show itself on the forums for a long time, I finally took it on myself to create my own up-to-date version. After a lot of original set up, my method now requires little time and almost non-existent server strain, allowing me to refresh it many times a day if there ever was a reason to. Due to my limited knowledge of this type of undertaking, TheGreatSardini helped me with the start up. Unless I missed one, this map should contain every organization with at least two members.
(Although Graph Commons may not be the best available method of displaying this node map, it is the best that I have found available to the public.)

And for those who can't load the page, I have attached a completely oversized screengrab below which will give you the general idea.

Code24 reacted to yamamushi in Exporting Construct Models for 3D Printing
Thanks to @Sunrider for this idea -

I think it would be really great, albeit probably not a very frequently used feature, to be able to export our constructs from the game in a format that allows us to easily convert them to the types necessary for 3D printing.

Space Engineers offers this capability for custom ships: http://www.spaceengineersgame.com/3d-printing.html

Granted, the way they store ship models probably makes it a bit easier to allow the clients to access them and export.

My gut feeling tells me the process for doing an export of DU constructs will be a lot more complicated for users, as much of that will be stored server-side. I suppose we won't really know how feasible this is for us until Alpha, wherein we can see what kind of files are generated client-side and if it's possible to even use those files for this purpose.
