The_War_Doctor got a reaction from Zamarus in Apology from Slaxx to NQ and the Dual Community
He was given the option to restart his org after it was deleted by NQ as long as he didn't ghost, I understood his anger at the time. MM was a known issue in the community though. Neither was banned after the ghost incident. Slaxx was banned because of how he acted after. MM was never actually banned, he demanded a refund after the incident. I'm sorry if he truely has mental disabilites, but to me it doesn't justify how he lashed out. In the end its NQ decision to allow him to come back into the community, if he is allowed to come back though i dont believe he should be allowed to repurchase his pack. I won't claim to know what exactly happened via pm's. thats between slaxx and NQ. If he is allowed to come back, he should be aware that there is a good chance the community will hold him at arms length much like we do with MM

you 3 can claim not to be Slaxx, but i have a suspicion you are. also the fact one knows what supposedly happened between nq and slaxx or op is fishy.

If  you wanna apologize fine, but dont feel entitled to be given forgiveness by this community or by NQ for enforcing their rules that we all agreeded to.

personally i feel this thread should be locked as this is just a flamewar waiting to happen. end of the day its not up to use community members to pass verdict in this matter. Its NQ and if they have decided one way and cant be convinced otherwise then i feel its time to accept it and move on.

Nope, that's not what happened lol

That's not NQs problem. If that's true then he's better off WITHOUT the game anyway and should see a psychiatrist.

Also strange that this is brought up.....by three different ppl. Who only ever posted in this thread. Quite the "coincidence"

It was just a silly example of Quantum Mechanics mainly. It was just meant to illustrate the the random nature of it. We may learn more later but right now they only refer to quantum mechanics in the older blogs.

Two things about the mining. One you are assuming we can set up macros in that manner, Two you are assuming all materials are on the surface of the planet. actually a third point i think depending on the material it will take longer to actually mine a section. have to hold the key down for a bit. So even if you have the capacity to do the macros. The materials you will receive will be subpar and super common.

it was said in some interviews / AMAs / devblogs (can't exactly remember where) that every weapon ingame (not only AvA but also CvC) will be lock and fire. it's the same mechanic as in EVE: input your parameters like distance, velocity, radial velocity, weapon type, stats of weapon, stats of character using the weapon (ingame skill), target stats, target velocity, target trajectory and so on - dump everything in an equation - returns 2 you crit, 1 you hit, 0 you miss (or everything in between). that's it, there is no reflex fps bs involved. will search for that interview though

Hi Primate and welcome on the official Dual Universe forum.

    - The need of approval for your first post by a Moderator or a Community Manager has nothing to do with NDA.
You need to be approved once. After that, you won't need anymore validation.
Why resorting to such measure? Captcha systems gave mixed efficiency results to prevent spam accounts to spawn on the forum.
As we had Korean and Chinese, as well as English spam accounts on the forum in the past, this is the most efficient way to block them before they start polluting the forum (you would be surprised to see how many we have removed so far that never became visible to the Community

    - You might think that current Supporter Packs are underwhelming. That's totally your right.
Sure, there are a lot less attractive than our previous Kickstarter Founder Packs, but they remain worth it in terms of value: their price alone is approximatively the total value of the number of DACs (tokens for months of playtime) included in it. That means that everything else if given for free (while cosmetics items - pets, outfits, skins and decorative Elements - have also a significant value too). The value of Pre-Alpha access is not even taken into account as we consider it a "bonus perk" for those who want to support the game beyond just buying it to play. As mentioned in the disclaimer of the Patron Pack, Pre-Alpha is not meant for those who want an immediate fun experience, as the game is not yet at this stage. Pre-Alpha is meant for those who really want to help us tracking bugs and give feedback on every aspect of the game in its current state. In any case, just wanting to play the game and have fun is perfectly understandable, it's just it's not the right time for that yet, and that's why we won't encourage players to aim for a patron pack if they're not interested in this early phase.

    - Live gameplay is limited for the time being indeed.
That's pretty common in this early stage, especially for a MMORPG.
Again, if you prefer to play when the server will be up permanently, Pre-Alpha may not be the phase you want to join, and that's totally understandable.

    - Subscription model is necessary. Server architecture to host the whole community in the same universe (no instances) and Quality Support cost a lot.
As this kind of cost can be, in a certain measure, proportional to the amount of players, it would make no sense to go Free-to-Play and even Buy-to-Play could be a risky move.
Hence, Subscription model is the most logical choice.

    Best Regards,
    Nyzaltar.

    Hi everyone,

Despite the fact some seem to believe the contrary, it was never said that it will remain forever impossible to add a Supporter Pack to a Founder account.
It's not possible, for the time being. It's not meant to stay that way. It's a huge work that has started before we released the Supporter Packs. Ideally we would have released this possibility at the same time as the Supporter Packs. However, as we saw it would never make it in time with the Supporter Packs schedule, we decided it will be implemented at a later time. We hear your concerns and yes, it was already planned, just delayed for now. We apologize for the inconvenience.

We will keep you informed when we will have more details on this topic.

    Best Regards,
    Nyzaltar.

because f2p, lootboxes, microtransactions and stuff like that are CANCER to the gaming industry. Just look at what happend to EA, Bungiee, Bioware and others with titles like call of duty, battlefront 2, anthem, god of war.... they make billions with such systems because people are stupid and buy that shit. Then SUPPORT it even further by buying stuff. And now people are so used to this ripoff and bad monetarization design that they complain about a sub.

Please do, I'm sure you'd get plenty of readers and more point of discussion on the topic for future reference is always a good thing!
People were paid, but that's not the point, you don't just drop 10k on someone's head and expect them to work with you for a few months. Sure they have investors, but they're building a game with, as my mom likes to put it, "newfangled technology I can't understand".

Game development is one thing, but actually maintaining the game and plucking the bugs as the popup is completely different.

As far as the server costs, please cite your source on that. Keep in mind that those servers must be able to accept a lot of bandwidth, crunch numbers really really good, be able to store a lot of data, be supplied with power, have proper heating, cooling, and airflow, insurance in case everything goes kaputz, physical storage for those very servers because we all know that isn't free...

Workspace for the employees, their equipment, heating, cooling and airflow for a productive work environment,  sprinkler systems and water in case their building catches on fire, building rent (again because it's so egregious...), decent parking space for employees to park their personal transportation, sewage, and garbage disposal costs, amenities so the employees are actually happy and a bunch bunch of other stuff...

Oh, on top of all this, everything has to be kept secure. The building they work in to keep the bad guys out in addition to DDoS and other internet related protection.

My point is, there's a lot more to the expenses than just renting out a server for, by your estimate, 14.95. That's just the start too, someone else could easily cover the expenditures I forgot.

As much as I would love for this game to be a free-to-play game, the cost of a weekend Starbucks keeps a lot of... bad stuff out of the community. This particularly has been hashed and rehashed so I won't go over it.
    No.

Skills - what we know so far is that there are skills related to certain activities. You train those over time. 5 hours to train X. 10 hours to train Y. And so forth. You are not locked to a specific class, you can train into different activities when ever you want. The training over time continues even when you are offline. It only needs an active subscription.

Ships - Yes, there will be construct vs construct combat. We don't have much info beyond that. But the core idea is that for every move there is a counter move. This is of course subject to change.

Characters - no fps combat. It's a lock and fire system as a trade of for the other features of the game. Guns will be part of the game.

    Tutorials - no comment.

Organizations - there is the Arkship Pub for that and the community portal.

True, but DU will have a very realistic Economy too. Price of goods is a combination of demand and what the lowest someone is willing to sell for. Trade wars are fun and all. Local markets will vary a lot too. makes me wonder how it will affect dac prices....

If anything I think ore will go up. Miners and gathers will be well paid in my eyes, especially as time progresses. We know that we get factory units which will greatly speed up the development of mass produced ships, so we will need even more ore and materials to pump into the factory to get more ships. Higher demand for materials means higher pay for said materials.

    @Semproser

I think your missing the big picture.

In this game things won't be as easy as you think. Mining will be hard and time consuming, to locate good materials, then harvesting those materials. During that time players will be vulnerable to attack. So, players will have to build a base or defense at the mining site to protect it while they gather resources. An space travel isn't super fast like in most space games. Travel between planets will be a long voyage, which makes transporting goods to secure territory even more risky.
Then you still have crafting to refine those raw materials into something usable. An that doesn't include building and manufacturing. An the whole time a player or org is doing that they will be vulnerable to getting attacked.

The Moons have Zero valuable resources, and Alioth only has low value resources. So players will have to venture out if they want to get materials to build anything important in the game. And that's when they are vulnerable to attack.
Also, if you really take the time to think about it, the savezones in the game are a tiny compared to the rest of the game. only a few thousand kilometers around the Arkship, and one moon. The rest of Alioth, and 5 other planets is open to combat. Players have no choice but to venture out to gather resources.

If you just want to do running and gunning style pew pew, then this games is probably not for you, I'd recommend the game "Angels fall First". That's a pvp focused space game that has that type of gameplay. This game is focused on on rebuilding civilization, and you can't do that without stability. If this was just free for all PVP, then there wouldn't be any savezones.

Think about it this way, Players and Orgs will be constantly thinking up clever ways to defend and protect themselves, so they can build their civilization. So if you want to attack people, then you need to be equally as clever, an think up good strategies.

Also, their is another angle you should consider, and that's espionage and the meta game. Its no secret around here that some Organizations already have spy's everywhere, and are planning to destroy other Organizations from the inside. Those spies can simply steal any resources. If anything, the sanctuaries and savezones are just a false since of security.

I’m not sure an attacker would follow someone for hours on end just on the off-chance they MIGHT have something worthwhile.  If an attacker doesn’t catch up to you in 10-20 minutes, I imagine they will branch off.

If the universe is truly vast, I think it will be fairly simple to slice out your own stakes far off the beaten path.  Meanwhile conflict would be occurring at points of high interest.

But yeah, it IS possible for that attacker to follow you.  And that’s something you always have to keep in mind.  DU isn’t inherently safe.

    Hi everyone,

It seems the DevBlog was not clear enough on some points.
We have said it many times before, and we'll continue to say it again:
While many players wants to see Dual Universe with a dominant gameplay aspect, it's important to understand that it's NOT the case.

Building gameplay is as important as Combat gameplay. Not more, not less. Balancing both won't be easy and we are aware of it. No, Building is not the major feature of Dual Universe. If the Building aspect has been made first, it's only because, it was making total sense to start the development with this part: we are pretty much in R&D field regarding the Voxel technology. It was an essential piece of tech to build the base of the game: Voxels were necessary to create editable planets in the first place. Then the logical next step was to develop tools to give players to manipulate voxels. That wouldn't make sense to develop Combat gameplay before the two previous steps because, there wouldn't even something to destroy, or even an environment where the combat could happen.

The order in which the features are developed are NOT by order of importance.
It's just a matter of logical game development roadmap.

We have no plan to make Dual Universe a total free for all PvP game, just as we won't make it a whole game universe safe, just because some players want to explore it completely without taking any risk. While we don't plan to make our game some kind of "EVE Online 2.0", we don't want either to make a "No Man's Sky 2.0". We understand this may not appeal to everyone taste, and we totally understand that. However, if there is something that is very unlikely to change, it's the fact that there's no intention to catter to only one specific category of players.

A final word about the griefing and the mindset of the community. Our point of view is that griefing mainly proliferates when it's an easy way to get rewards with little effort, not necessarily because many people really wants to play that way. Of course, there are people who like to grief just for the enjoyment of annoying other players but we are convinced they're not a majority. If game mechanics are designed in such a way that griefing doesn't give easy rewards, then griefing will be naturally limited.

Why not simply remove the possibility of griefing, then?

Yes, it would be clearly easier and quicker to remove the ability to grief other players, but while we have no intention to encourage griefing, removing it totally would go against the very definition of the sandbox concept: players are free to interact in the way they want. If we remove any kind of interaction, then we are not in a Sandbox MMORPG anymore: we would be in a Theme Park one. And that is not Novaquark's vision. We want a game universe where bad behavior is discouraged by game mechanics and heavy in consequences if a player still choose to do so, than arbitrarily forbid the said behavior. We want players to be free but also to live with the consequences of their choices. That's what Sandbox mean to us at Novaquark.

    Best Regards,
    Nyzaltar.

That is not how it works. By your logic anything that has already been around in other games cannot be emergent in DU. BS if you ask me. The very definition of it is creative solutions, complex situations that emerge from simple mechanics. There's even something called intentional emergence such as similar situations intended by devs. Either way we've been given the tools. And if people find unexpected ways to do PvP or literally anything else it is very much emergent gameplay, you can't just dismiss it pointing at another game. See, other games does not set the standard for what will be emergent in DU since it's a new game in itself that comes with its own complexity and player solutions to problems.

Im pretty sure NQ will be the ones defining the game mechanics, not the players...... (thats not to say the players wont have input but the final say is up to the devs.)

If you dont like the idea of being shot at outside of a safe zone then thats your issue. Be safe in a safe zone, thats what its for, go outside of a safe zone and anything is fair game - just like in real life. Toughen up a little.

And a 20km area radius city is a huge city - could hold millions, just like in real life. I doubt if someone chooses to live there they will feel crowded, otherwise they would just move elsewhere.

Remember that not everyone is a builder, I doubt long term more than 20% of the population will be builders as people will come to enjoy the environment that has been built. So space for creating builds wont be a huge issue. Remember, up is also a place you can build/test constructs, it doesnt all have to be on the ground
