    SirJohn85 got a reaction from Skimus in Question about evolution of DU
    Your addition "then NQ changed it (once or many times) and then the feedback transitioned to mostly positive?" really made me think for a while.

    In retrospect, a lot of things were implemented to some extent but never got a revision. From any unnecessary features that crept into the feature list at the time and added no value to gameplay (yes, I'm looking at you Surrogate Pods) , were postponed indefinitely (yes, I am looking at you AvA), or made worse to make it more accessible
    (Yes, this time looking at you thrust-to-mass ratio), there wasn't much left that met your criteria.

    So if I take out things that are under the ATV NDA and things that are obvious like UI (optimization, renderings, accessible) then I really have to say there is only one subject for me that I can call that: Mining. It was the only one in my eyes that got multiple tries, attempts and a lot of love from all the features that DU has in it's current state.

    I remember back then, fragments always remained and a vein could never be mined completely. The scanner always pinged and it was frustrating to look for the last piece. I am thankful that we at least have this green border and that the ore sticks together more and you can mine a vein more efficiently and cleanly. I was able to mine everything down with a calm conscience without breaking down any leftovers and my scanner stopped pinging again.

    A few people complained at the time about how fast it was and how they wanted to make a science out of how to mine the ore. I would like to see their opinion today that it was meant for all players and not for a small group.

    That's a whole lotta words just to say you got your feelings hurt in chat.

    People are quitting this game because the gameplay is garbage right now, not because their opinions are getting slammed by fanboys in the support channel.

    In very many of my previous posts I have described the view from the paying customers. Until recently, it was even the case that players could still play after their subscription had expired, which would make me a little suspicious even as a paying customer. Don't get me wrong, this is not about me at all. I'm reflecting this whole view from a customer. To put it mildly, I would feel like a fool if I had a 1-year subscription and the other person could only continue playing after a 1-month subscription.

    Why have so many old players quit? Especially since they were backers / supporters who didn't even have to pay for the beta. At the latest when another developer studio takes your company as an example of how NOT to do it, I would rethink my strategy.

    Seeing past your unqualified statements, I'll casually mention once without breaking the NDA that I've been in Alpha Team Vanguard (ATV) since 2017.
    Maybe you should look up what ATV means again. We have jumped from the original ~600k euros that were funded to 20 million. There has been no lack of time and money in recent years. I would rather call it mismanagement.

    The stories, in terms of actions, decisions, lack of communication and the points I have listed above all speak their own story.
    I am only the messenger. I just make sure that all this is not forgotten. Even if people will hear it several times. You are free to ignore me at any time.  Just as customers and new players should be left to weigh up for themselves whether they should buy into Beta under these conditions or not. And I think it's only right not to do this with rose-coloured glasses.

    And it is not helpful when people try to silence others.

    Harder to fix fundamental issues with the economic model.

    Either ore vanishes or money supply does -- hate to keep rehashing ye 'ole deflation discussion with currency supply, but that's what it comes down to.

    Reality: NQ has no designs for the economy, for PvP, or for how the game's main "features" are supposed to work in general. People love to talk about what DU "will be eventually," but that future required planning....and they never bothered to plan out this game. Never.

    It was all just a vague series of grand promises with players left to fill in the blanks.

    This is the "Lost" of video games -- people are intrigued by the mystery of an intricate world built on a promise it will all connect...but the writers are just trying to stay one episode ahead and the house of cards inevitably crumbles when we all realize "there was no plan" all along.

    "played a long con" .. Game is public for what 7 months? That is hardly a long con..

    I have nothing against these events being possible, I certainly would say Empire only has themselves to blame.

    Big issue with this thing is that it has nothing to do with gameplay, strategy, RP or anything else but wanting to be "that guy". Unfortunately, there's too many in the DU community wanting to be "that guy" and hope that they get the chance to see their name on Twitter ..

    It's pretty much on-par with the M15 incident.. Players doing things just because they can, not because their is any reason or cause for it to happen. This is not The Judge handing CO2 to Goons.. It's kids playing with their lollipop.

    For me most of magic died out, when I realised, that (at least -- currently) game not about cool space empires/interconnected society, politics and wars, but about small groups (or even solo) of boring nerds, sitting on their factories and containers, bragging how much useless shit they producing, owning or building. Amazing creations.

    I got 2 beta invitations with my pledge, which gives me 3 accounts. Each of these accounts has access to PTS.

    So 6 out of 12 planets (not including moons) can be covered by me. I can log into an alt account on PTS while I am flying somewhere on the live server and use it to find ores. This alt account is of course skilled to get the best out of the scanner tool.

    Imagine you have a buddy who does the same. Or a few people in the org who you pay (later on the live server) to do it on the pts.
    You get to know the spots without using fuel or warp cells on the live server. And the whole thing is made easier on pts with the fact that instead of getting 100k quanta like on the live server, it's a total of 1,000,000,000 quanta per day. You are not interested in a territory scanner unit if you are much faster than waiting 15 minutes per tile. Above all, you don't even have to make a big effort.

    That's why it's just plain ridiculous that your seed is freely available on the pts.

    Not only that, but the developers listen to feedback and, for example, change animations if people don't like it after it's been presented.

    you do realize that NQ has all data right? they know when you log, for how long and with whom you interact (barter and inventory) wise. you do realize that they can check that easily?
    so for that to happen you would need to give your base to a friend and then not log in for weeks
    after some weeks, he then opens a support ticket and ask them to compactify it
    after some weeks NQ support tried to contact you (and you dont log in at all in that time too), they compact the base and your friend can fly it to the new location

    ok....seems...a bit far fetched.

    Meanwhile, in reality where people think more than 5 seconds about something, NQ could come up with easy peasy mechanics to prevent that:
    - make compacted BPs bound to planet / radius or much easier for NQ: drop it into a personal container in the safezone with unlimited capacity but only for those compacted bps (not abuseable as storage). then you have to manually transport the stuff from there.
    - check all data (who logged in when and who gave what items to whom) for all involved parties and if they use this in that way then have a system in place which checks for if he logs back in again after the bp is compactified and rdms is switched or not. then slap them hard and make their base unuseable.

    but you know, this is all useless. because NQ will not do anything about it for a long time and support doesnt care enough to help ppl resolve their issue. so all this talking is useless because such things would need to be done BEFORE you start a game, not afterwards. NQ made it pretty clear that you're fucked if this happens to you and there is nothing you or they can do to help you

    OMG guys, what you arguing about. Its quite clear.

    1) make logical mechanical hierarchy who (what entities) can ovveride ownership;
    2) when, via some timers of non-activity/subs end;
    3) write clear and detailed rules about it, put some warnings in game, e-mail system to warn;
    4) set it work automaticly! control bugs and unentended hard abuses;

    0) make it so from start of live service!

    We even done this on amateur-unpaid-run MC servers without that much trouble, when dealing with territory ownership. All you need is clear head (1) and (1) semi-competent programmer who can establish semi-ok database. May even be same person.

    What prevents people from hiring organisations that do mercenary work?

    Territorial warfare (battle for tiles and atmospheric pvp inc.) and AvA (Avatar vs Avatar) would be 2 things that would immediately come to mind. One is supposed to come soon.

    In principle, there is nothing against PvE. I'm primarily weighing up what was said during the Kickstarter campaign about what should be in place for the release. I just wonder how you imagine it exactly, since the safe zones are supposed to be around 20km and everything after that is actually pvp and no longer "pve" in this sense.
    I also enjoy flora and fauna and would be happy to see that, but I knew then that it would not be a priority. If you now put the resources, energy and money into PvE, they lose the focus of the game in my eyes.

    But otherwise, definitely. I'm totally with you and, in a long term view, would totally get behind your idea. But definitely not before official launch.
    And I've decided that I don't give a damn about what you decided in this post.

    As I said, what you are describing is holding hands. You want to "pvp" with a pve pirate faction in a safe environment because you want nothing to do with other people or you fear losing because you don't feel powerful otherwise.

    I then suggest we call the pirates BOO.  /s

    @[BOO] Sylva would certainly feel honoured to have something like this named after her org.

    According to the wiki list, no mmo based on this engine has been released yet. All of them were either cancelled or stopped being worked on. I guess you will have a hard time finding qualified and affordable developers.

    To your bonus question: Why? You want to jump from one crowdfunded game to the next, even though you have burnt your fingers on DU ? Even though I may be stepping on the toes of one or two SC fanboys and fangirls, the game has been in development for 8 years now, sometimes more, sometimes less progress.  It doesn't really offer you "building in open-space" too.

    I would look at some alternatives like Starbase. Otherwise, I don't know what's currently hot except for the early access games on steam.

    NQ maybe should not intervene in a single issue like removing some core.
    But
    they should finally solve the major issue after half a year
    they could:

    disable overlap protection completely for cores on the planet surface (for space core this feature is still useful)
    reduce the size for the overlap protection zone to the actual size of the build zone
    allow the tileowner to ignore the overlap protection
    allow the tileowner to remove cores from his territory (so they are compacted into the core owners inventory)
    add a RDMS policy for TCU that disables the overlap protection

    JUST ONE of this workarounds would solve the issue for most players/ orgs.
    They just have to pick the one thats the easiest to do.
    But since 6 months we are talking to a wall.

    2/3 of our city territory is still unusable for already 6 months because of this.
