    We know a bit about how exploration at an interstellar level is planned to be, so this doesn't really concern the mechanics of exploration so much as how that information is propagated...
     
    At some point, new planets and systems are going to have to make it into a galactic map for us, so this idea is more about how that would take place.
     
    I propose that in order for a new system or planet to show up on the galactic map, that someone has to actually go out to that planet or system and collect information about it somehow (a mechanic that doesn't exist yet). Then they have to fly back to the Arkship (without dying and losing said scan results) and upload that scan into the Arkship so that everyone globally can have access to that information.
     
    That way new planets and systems can remain somewhat secret to the discoverers, and it gives more value to those who are exploring deep space selling the location of planets and solar systems. But if someone goes out there they can choose to make it public by uploading that data to the Arkship for everyone to have access to.

    Wow, so much venom from the peanut gallery, guy was just asking a clarifying question and you all jump down his throat lecturing about "real life" and being a human?  Possibly you'll be wanting to self reflect and see to your own particular issues before berating others?

    If it takes months to fix a community website for NovaQuark then it might take them months to fix in-game glitches.

    Please fix your website cookies for the privacy policy, it is setting a bad example for your video game you're working on. It says, "we don't care if it's broken, we'll get around to it eventually" which is unacceptable to a single shard, major glitches will be needed to be fixed within a day. and minor glitches within a week.

    I've been making some animated & neon signs for the Orgs I'm part of and for friend's ships. Because they are GIFs, they can be displayed on ingame screens/signs. I figured I'd share some and see if anyone want's a free animated neon GIF for their org or ship. Either message me or post your existing logo or graphics here and I'll see what I can do. It helps me pass the time when I'm not playing taxi driver for my kids or being yelled at by my wife.

    I would love to see a planet with caves big enough to fly through possibly all the way to the core so you can get lost trying to get back to the surface. Basically a planet with like 30%cave and 70%matter. I imagine you could make really nice structures or cave cities in there and have a different challenge in finding and mining resources. It may not be very realistic but hey that's what games are for right.

    It seems like the astronomical side of DU is still in its infancy, or at least from what I can see. So I would like to present a two-sided series of both suggestions and educational posts. Though I will not be going into too much detail. So if there are any other Physicists or Astronomers out there, I'm simplifying for a general audience and possibly have these parameters included into the game.
     
    Planet Orbits:
    Depending on the mass of a star the typical orbits of planets around it have been found to have certain properties. The is an inner and outer limit. Too close and the planet (or rather that section of the proto-planetary disk during formation) will be pulled into the star. Too far and the star will not have enough gravitational pull. Before we proceed, an Astronomical Unit, or AU, is the average distance between the Earth and the Sun, approximately 150 million kilometers or 93 million miles.
     
    The inner limit follows this equation:
    I = 0.1 * M
    Where I is measured in AU and M is the mass of the star.
     
    Similarly, the outer limit can be generalized as:
    O = 40 * M
    Though with some caveats on the mass and velocity of individual planets, as particularly fast or less massive planets would have a significantly smaller outer limit.
     
    Frost Line:
    The simplified frost line can be found based on the star's luminosity.
    F = 4.85 * L^-2
    Where L is luminosity and F is measured in AU. Keeping in mind that a planet barren of atmosphere will retain nearly no heat from their star and certain atmosphere compositions will have a greenhouse effect.
     
    Stable Orbits:
    Planets have an almost infinite combination of orbits, but there are some rules of stable orbits when multiple planets are involved. Each further planetary orbit will always be between 1.4 and 2 times the distance of the previous or be unstable and something will somewhere destabilize. This, however, is in relation to the star. IF we are looking at orbits close to the parent star, planets themselves can be no closer than 0.15 AU of each other (generalization, gets a bit more complex). Otherwise, the planets will affect each other and one or more planets will destabilize and go into the sun or settle into a further orbit which may cause a chain reaction of other orbital interactions.

    Moons:
     
    Major/Minor:
    Moons are currently classified by two types, Major and Minor Moons. Major moons are those who have enough mass to collapse into a spherical shape. As mass is not always the same density at certain sizes a minor moon may, in fact, have more volume than a major moon. However, this is a limited range and is extremely rare. This range of overlap resides almost solely in the 200-300 km range. Though theoretically, some really odd and really rare highly dense or the oppositely composed moons could exist.
     
    Rocky/Icy:
    Moons also come in two varieties, predominantly rocky and icy. Why this is has a few theories based on we believe system formation occurs. Moons located within the systems frost line will be predominantly rocky and those outside the frost line will be predominantly rocky.
     
    Abundance:
    Terrestrial planets tend to have very few moons and often none at all. It is not uncommon to capture a few asteroids which reclassify as minor moons, but it is particularly rare to have major moons. Additionally, terrestrial planets closer to a star tend to have fewer moons than those further away.
     
    Hill Sphere:
    The Hill Sphere is the range in which a smaller mass within it will gravitationally bound to the larger mass. This can be calculated by the equation:
    H (outer): a * (m/M)^(1/3) * 235
     
    Au , m is the smaller mass, and M is the larger mass. The inner limit is the Roche limit, more details on that later, but for now, the equation is:
    d = R * ( 2 * pM / pm )^ (1/3)
    Where R is the radius of the major body, pM is the density of the major body, and pm is the radius of the minor body. It must be kept in mind that these are simplified equations for static, or solid moons with an ideal orbit. Moons with fluids or elliptical orbits will have modified equations.
     
    Simplified Orbital Period:
    P = 0.0588 * ( R^3 / (M + m ) )^(1/ 2 ),
    Where P is in days.

    Yes I know they are not really solutions they are more like brain farts  Anyway here is another. 
     
    What if near the ark there would be a vulcano that spans one or several hexes and cannot be claimed by anyone or build upon. The vulcano will keep generating more cheap resources over time.

    First, I would like to thank Novaquark for preparing the roadmap.  I have been looking forward to seeing it.  The sequence in which the features will be implemented seems very sensible.
    I have two questions about the features in the roadmap.
     
    1. Social Features, which mentions grouping, is under Alpha 3 and Player Nations is under Beta.  Does this mean player groups and player nations will be different kinds of entities in the game or will they still both be organizations with some features of organizations introduced later than others?
     
    2. When will the RDMS be introduced?  I did not see it mentioned specifically in the roadmap.  Does this mean it will be implemented gradually as the other features require it?

    A thought....
     
    All characters have a very basic stun/minimal-damage gun built into their arm just like the mining tool is. This weapon is almost useless against anyone in a suit but handy at very close quarters and against wild life.
     
    Now here is the actual suggestion.
     
    The first gun level above the basic stun gun is large, power hungry and more powerful. As the gun performances increase the gun gets physically smaller, more efficient and more powerful until....
     
    It reaches the point of looking identical to the beginners basic stun gun.
     
    This would give newbies an extra level of safety as potential aggressors would have to second guess themselves.
     
    The only difference to the super hand gun would be the type of beam it emits. By then the attacker will realise the fatal error they have made....
     
    So, worth doing? 
     
    # Amendment: The thought of the basic gun only being able to stun has thrown people of my idea, lets just assume it can do damage, just very little damage compared to all the more powerful gun types.

    Isnt this the idea forum? Yes I see that NQ did state something. But we are playing with ideas, which all have it pros and cons. The argument that NQ stated it is not planned is not an arguement as a pro or con. It is good to mention it, as the current state of game design, but thats it.

    Hast ja dein Abzeichen aus ED mitgenommen (alles Elite ?).
    Ich habe auch 1,5 Jahre ED gespielt, war aber mit den Ingenieuren nicht zufrieden und habe dann DU entdecket.
    DU wird endlich das Spiel in dem alles funktioniert. Dauert zwar noch etwas, aber der Ansatz ist erstklassig.
    Man trifft sich sicher dann im Spiel. Viel Spaß.

    Hi HuschHusch ... Das ist das Logo vom original Elite  ED fand ich immer großartig insbesonder mit dem Oculus Rift. Aber abseits vom großartig finden habe ich es auf der anderen Seite wenig gespielt. Irgendwie komisch.
     
    Elite hat mich extrem geprägt (das alte original), das habe ich quasi auf jedem Computer wieder neu gespielt. Es war einfach zur damaligen Zeit sensationell und ich habe es zuerst auf dem CPC464 gespielt. Dann noch auf Amiga und PC
     
    Ich renne immer noch dem Gefühl von Elite hinterher, das Elite Dangerous zwar etwas erzeugen konnte, aber nicht an das Gefühl vom Original herankam.
     
    Naja - Elite zusammen mit Minecraft .. das wird schon was werden

    Hello Noveans and the ones hoo gonna be,
     
    in my opinion a game with a living breathing universe where the content is made by players we will need more than just mining ores.
    Trading is for fulfilling needs.
    But to have a reason to trade we need essential needs.
     
    We all want to make the Dual Universe a second home and we need to have some essential things.
    here are my suggestions and what probably make it different from any other game.
     
    Farming:
    We need to have Elements that have to be placed on a specific biome.
    A waterfarming mashine needs to be placed at a water source on any planet and produces drinkable water.
    to fill it up we need to have a mashine that produces bottles.
    Producing food will work a similar way.
    A mashine will produce meat out of stem cells on a planet with breathable air.
    The packaging will work with another mashine.
    Crop Farms will need a lot of space and can only be placed in biomes where plants are growing already.
    With mashines crops can be produced into Food-Packs

    Eating and Drinking:
    Every bottle of water or produced food will expire after one reallife week.
    but a player need to drink and eat once every day or once every login and after using a ressurection node.
    If a player dont eat after logging in his stomache will make noises and he cannot use his jetpack.
    if the player dont eat for some days he will die and get portet to a resurrection node.
    If a player dont drink for one day his char wil make another noise and the player walks slower than usual.
     
    Alcohol and Drugs:
    Every Drug has a positive and a negative. So it should be here.
    Alcohol could let you move faster the more you drink but with a blurred vision and maybe lets you move waveringly.
    There could also be drugs.
    For Example... "Scraprip Pill" this pill will let you carry more things. You feel like you have superpowers.
    But after duration of action using Drugs you need to drink and eat much more.
    drugs can make you addicted. if this happens you need a medicine and cannot fly ships for one week.
     
    Breathing:
    The Nanosuit has a stock for oxygen.
    oxygen can be produced on planets with atmosphere. The oxygen will get nanorized in a mashine into O²-Packs.
    every Nanosuit has slots for O²-Packs.
    Every Pack will less for one hour.
     
    Water-Bottles, Meat-Packs, Food-Packs and O²-Packs
    are in my opinion a minimum must have in the game.
     
    There could be a lot of other things like mixed drinks, different meals, alcohol and drugs.
    But all of this stuff will make the universe rich on wares to trade and stuff everyone needs.
     
    Without this, its just a mining and shipbuilder MMO

    I always thought that information should be totally private.  I think it would be OK to show the legates just so ppl can contact them, and maybe show the number of members in the org, but listing every member publicly is going to effect politics and subterfuge.  I hope they change it.

    Wirtschaft
    Die Wirtschaft der ISC soll innerhalb des Planetensystems mit einer Kommunikation und festen Handelsrouten bestehen.
     
    Militär & Sicherheit
    Jeder Mitgliedstaat muss zugeordnet seiner Größe einen Beitrag zur militärischen Flotte der ISC beitragen. Somit bilden wir eine Gemeinschaft, die sich durch die Masse selbst schützen kann.
     
    Diplomatie
    Die ISC wird eine friedliche Cooperation im Sternensystem. Wir setzen auf Verteidigung, Wirtschaft und Diplomatie.
     
     
    Wir wollen uns sofern es kein Voice im Spiel gibt, per Discord oder Teamspeak verständigen.

    So this is an idea based on WWI-WWII Hospital Ships. Most people wouldn't fire on them due to the red cross on the side. So this is my Idea:
     
    Should there be somewhat of an established neutrality sign to put on the side of a ship to say it isn't part of any side in a current conflict?
     
    Ex: Two major powers are fighting over some planets with a lot of rare materials in the same solar system. The solar system is also directly in the middle of a major trading route, and merchant ships are being fired on continuously due to both sides thinking they where part of the other. So here is a solution: A trading ship could put a symbol on the side to show it is not part of either side and to not fire. 
     
    This is just an idea, but I would love to see what the community thinks.

    I think you misunderstood my post. You still have access to your character - the only thing suspended is % of character skill level.
     
    Example: when you die you get -50% levels. Every 1 hour that penalty is reduced by 1%. After 50h (2d2h) you're back at 100%.
     
    Now if you still think that would lead to any support calls, please explain why.
     
     
    Pissed off players? Any more than after loosing expensive ship, equipment and resources that they need to work to regain (rather than just waiting)? Doubt it.
