Armedwithwings reacted to NQ-Nyzaltar in Open post to the devs of Dual Universe
    Hi Jonesy,

Welcome in the Dual Universe community!

Regarding your statement "I will never pay to play a game in alpha test for $60.00 ever":

It's totally fine, really. If you don't want to support a game in development and prefer to buy and enjoy games only when they are in a more or less complete state, we - at Novaquark - totally understand: those who currently support us do so in order to help us finance the game. In return, they got a fair amount of months of playtime that they will be able to use at official release, and they have access to early stages of development, where they can give their feedback and help to improve/shape the game. We totally get it's not for everyone. If you just want to enjoy a finished game, we respect your choice and it's indeed better to wait until official release.

Regarding the statement "Nerf should not even be a word admitted in the gaming community":

That's your point of view and we respect it, but we tend to disagree on that topic. "Buffing" or "Nerfing" is part of the continuous challenge of having a well balanced game. No dev succeeded (and probably never will) in making a game perfectly balanced from the start, because games nowadays can reach such game depth and/or complexity that it is virtually to anticipate every situation.

Starting from there, buffing and nerfing are necessary adjustments that need to be done during the game life. Not nerfing overpowered features/skills/talents might just make flee more players from the game than addressing the issue, because the game might feel then too easy and the players become bored if there is no challenge anymore, or because it might feel unfair in a PvP game for players not using the said overpowered features (and don't want to use the same Meta that everyone else) feeling disavantaged.

We hope you'll understand Novaquark's stance on those topics, just as we respect yours.

    Best Regards,
    Nyzaltar.

Here's my 2 cents on your train of thought...

On launch, Alpha testers with their already functional blueprint designs will hold an edge over the common folk.
Due to lack of experience, new players will shift focus on the market and make the "Alpha blueprint owners" a decent penny.
Most of the stuff you'll be seeing flying around are most likely designs created during Alpha tests.
Getting to make an actual space worthy ship takes time and on the race to leave Alioth, time is of the essence!

Those reputable builders will always be popular candidates among orgs, and that's to be expected.
Despite offering their skillsets to the cause, corporations will view them as a source of income.
After all, having a certain profession in anything is always expected to be rewarded at an equivalent price, whether it's quanta, DACs or even status.
Many people often find loyalty to that and act accordingly.

But when it boils down, there's no right or wrong way to play the game.
Poacher orgs are always gonna be a thing and whether anyone wants to be a part of them that's their own choice really.

Armedwithwings got a reaction from vertex in What does it mean to "win" in a game like DU?
Personally speaking, winning is the ability to enjoy myself regardless of the outcome.
    I'll give an example...

Couple of sessions ago, i volunteered to drop some folks on a nearby planet.
I'm not over-reacting  when i say that anything that could go wrong - went wrong.
Had one poor guy lose his speeder, ship being too heavy and crashing like a million times and to top it all off, a passenger somehow ejected out in space.
Yet regardless of how much suffering we had to go through,  it was a one of a time experience.
I fondly remember the motivational chants when trying to break off the atmosphere, enjoyed the view from space and chatted together for 3 hours about random stuff - everyone had fun

Armedwithwings reacted to Aaron Cain in Tranquility, the ever moving City in space
So yes, there is progress, what this progress is i cannot disclose here but lets say we will have a fully functional flying city when DU releases.
This city will have a full defense force and working industry. It will have residential areal on moons and planets and a staff that is active 24/7.
It will also have a vast network with other organizations and locations in DU and everything that is needed to have a good start in DU.
Just remember that the city is there for the people, by the people. So i may function as spokesperson and target but i am not the city, just a part in it.

The city is at the moment 65 active members and about 55 active organizations that support it including 3 vast alliances, 5 defense organizations, 2 mercenary groups and many trade and NAP treaties. All for the people by the people.

Well Aaron, making trailers, designing symbols and formulating faction structures is the easy part.
The beginning of the real struggle is finding individuals who believe in your vision and are willing to dedicate themselves to the cause.
As of right now, i"m still looking for key leadership figures to fulfill that purpose.
The nature of Triumvirate requires a more "invested" crowd, which is certainly not for everyone.
But at the same, i''m patient and prepared to invest twice the endeavour to make this concept come to fruition.
I accept your handshake in good will and respect, thank you for the kind words.

On March, 6th, we organized a special stress-test with thousands of simulated players. Our objective was to showcase our unique server technology and test it under live conditions! Dozens of human Alpha players were invited and participated as well, as witnesses of the event. You can discover the details on the news here.

There's a new article on Oz, by DU's Alsan_Teamaro. It's his first piece and by all means, a solid entry.
@Alsan_Teamaro's article on Oz takes a look at the organisational structures in Dual Universe, with some funny puns and videos along with it. If you are thinking of building an organisation or already have one and need some tips on the mode of governance (not all leaders are dictators), Alsan's article is an insightful - if witty - piece.

Head over to Oz to have a read. Who knows? You might learn a thing or two about keeping the cannon fodder in line orgaanisation members happy.

The thing about PVPers especially pirates, is that it's a low effort - high reward situation.
As natural, pirates profit from other people's hard work.
So if stealing another man's cargo is not considered a high risk situation,we risk running into a gameplay inbalance.

Counterintutively, not moderating the simulation can lead to the simulation strangled by the players. Well, strangled by one type of player that goes around harming all the other players, leaving with only that type of player and a shrinking playerbase thanks to the one type of player driving all the others out.  On the other hand, an argument can be made about this being natural and humans naturally being jerks
