It's time once again for NovaWrimo! If you don't remember what it is or you're new around here, let’s catch you up.
 
What is NovaWrimo?
NovaWrimo is a contest inspired by "Nanowrimo" (National Novel Writing Month) that happens during the month of November (from November, 1st to November, 30th). The goal of NanoWrimo is to write a 50,000-word novel in 30 days. If you're curious, here's the official Nanowrimo website: http://nanowrimo.org/.
 
NovaWrimo is slightly different: 
 
It's not strictly tied to the month of November (meaning we might hold similar contests several times a year). To be accessible to a broader range of participants, the minimum word count is only 5,000 words instead of 50,000. Ideally, entries would have a word count between 5,000 and 7,500 words. Depending on the number of entries, it can take a lot of time to review everything. Of course, if you're really inspired and the result very good, there's no hard limit. Who are we to tell Shakespeare when to stop?  
The rules:
The 2017 NovaWrimo contest starts today, Thursday, November 30th, 2017 at 9:30 PM PST.  It will end on Sunday, January 7th at 11:30 PM PST. The story should be compatible with what is known of the Dual Universe backstory so far.

If you spot an inconsistency between the different sources, the Official Lore Bible should be considered authoritative.
 
The story must happen between 2049 and 2450. (Between the creation of the United Earth Federation (UEF), the transnational institution in charge of coordinating humanity’s efforts and response to the Star Kiss of Death (SKiD) and the time when the Arkship technology is finally mastered). No alien creatures should be involved. Physical violence should be limited (No gore or similar things).  Verbal violence and cursing is tolerated but should be limited and not gratuitous. Explicit sexual content isn't allowed. Hate speech toward specific people, ethnic groups, or religions isn't allowed. You must submit your text in the form of a PDF file and you must attach it to a dedicated topic (with the tag [NovaWrimo2017] in the title) you created in the "Novaquark Archives" forum section. The PDF file must not exceed 500 kb in size. You also must send your file in Word or .txt format to both Nyzaltar and Nomad to be eligible. You can do so by private message on the forum. By submitting a fan fiction with the tag [NovaWrimo2017] in the topic title, the poster will explicitly cede author rights to Novaquark. While these texts won't be sold in any form, they might be used (fully or partially) as promotional materials or in marketing campaigns for the game Dual Universe. For more information, please read our "Terms of Use" and our EULA. You also must accept and you must respect the legal conditions bound to your Dual Universe account (the aforementioned game's EULA, but also the Terms of Use, Privacy Policy, and NDA if relevant). Your submission must be written in English. Your submission must not contain elements or information under NDA you may have found while playing the Pre-Alpha. A non-native English writer can seek help from a native English speaker to polish the text in English. The native English speaker must be aware that it can help only on a volunteer basis: he won't be eligible for any reward. If a non-native English writer seeks help from a native English speaker, he/she must submit the complete text before proofreading. Once his/her text is proofread, he/she will have to keep both pre-proofread and post-proofread versions of the text available on the forum. If several people collaborate on a story, please be aware that only the individual submitting the entry on the forum will be eligible to win any prizes or awards. We will not have group prizes available.  Because the juries are completely different, a participant may win a Novaquark prize and the Community prize. You may submit multiple entries, however, you may only win one Novaquark prize.  If an entry does not meet all of the requirements for eligibility (not reaching the minimum word count, missing the deadline by a few days, etc.), the author won't be considered as eligible for the Novaquark and the Community prizes. However, it may still be considered as a participant to the contest. It will be up to the Novaquark team to decide on a case by case basis.  Late entries will not be eligible for either the Novaquark or Community prizes, but will still be considered as participants.  A gentle reminder more than a rule: please consider the reading comfort of your future readers by formatting your text in a way that makes it easily readable (make sure to put some space between your paragraphs, etc.).

It has been a labour of love, it has. For weeks, a dedicated team worked tirelessly to achieve a goal. A goal not driven by the reward of money or the promise of fame; a goal unaltered by difficulties and undimmed by rumours. That goal, my friends, is Outpost Zebra.
 
This humble Outpost has no other purpose, but to spread the news of Dual Universe far and wide, to provide a platform for interaction between organisations and players alike. Consider it a home away from home, the figurative middle ground where parties on both sides of the spectrum meet to discuss events, share ideas, express opinions, promote their interests, find new friends…recruit new members.

You just don't see this for any type of game and this has a lot of potential, but surely requires a "long breath" as we surely look for years of usage here.
 
Regardless I hope that NQ realizes these community efforts and benefit through mentioning it at one point. Cross promotion, kinda? 
 
At least I see "people creating radio stations" as good selling point for this sandbox game. Win/win. 

When I got this in my email I misread it as "we'd love to hate you!", and I thought to myself "that's a pretty aggressive recruiting strategy, I like it".

I think this starts to get too complicated; we're talking here about countermeasures to countermeasures to countermeasures. There is going to have to be some form of automation at some point; I don't assume that every single gun barrel will need it's own player. However, with the lock-and-fire weapon system that NQ is going for, I think that a ship using double team is kind of counter to that; there are other ways to provide limitations.
 
With regular old school aim and fire, having there be multiple targets would make sense because the guns have to point at those targets and shoot. But with lock-and-fire, DUs system, a gun can be "aimed" at a target and technically still miss. I just personally feel that they don't mix.

Who are the Dual Universe Wayfarers?
A group of explorers that share a passion for discovering what secrets Dual Universe has to offer.  This stretches from discovering new planets in the farthest reaches of the galaxy to diving through the deepest seas. If there is something to discover, we will find it.
 
For the Individual:
Currently there is a space program with one of our sponsor organisations that will provide ships during alpha and beta for the avid explorer. Don't like building ships but want to go to another planet? Come be part of an exploratory crew.
Don't want to leave Alioth?  Do you prefer discovering the secrets of the planet chosen as the destination for the Novark? We have a place for you too.
 
Membership in this organisation won't have any impact on your other organizations. You can be member of multiple groups and leave this one anytime, as you wish.

In the future, DU wayfarers will support those that don't want to join any organizations by giving those lone wolves access to job boards. You DU you.

DU Wayfarers is a neutral organisation, accepting sponsorship's by other organisations.  A great test-bed for more experimental craft.  Information gathered in exploration missions will be shared with the sponsor. Also organisations will be able add their jobs to DU Wayfarers job boards.

After a bit of a hiatus for -reasons- I am pressing forward with continuing the development of a Dual Universe specific online radio station. 
 
This is being done under the banner of the in-game organization, "Alioth Broadcasting Corporation"
 
I am currently working with one other person making this a reality, and we currently have a radio stream running for demo purposes that has the following capabilities:
 
24/7 Broadcasting AutoDJ'd playlists  Scheduled DJ's (where DJ's can login during their assigned timeslots for live broadcasting) Real-time Album Art Retrieval  
The general things one would expect from an online radio stream.
 
My wife, who is super awesome, is currently working on a website for people who want to listen live on the web as well. This should be ready within a few days, but ongoing modifications will be made to it to add features like album artwork refreshing in real-time and an interactive schedule for shows. I also plan on eventually adding archived shows automatically, though that may not be ready for some time. 
 
 
All of that being said, the station is not ready for mass consumption, as we have several things we want to get in place before we give it out to the world. Which brings me to the purpose of this post.
 
We are currently looking for people who would like to contribute, more specifically the following: 
 
#1 priority at the moment for me is finding an artist who would like to help make logos (for the website, as well as the mobile apps) We are taking submissions of all types of content, and anyone who has music/shows/podcasts/commercials/whatever is welcome to submit content that will be broadcast on the station. This includes recruitment advertisements from ANY organizations (must be safe for work).  We are taking applications for people who would be interested in dj'ing live on the station, this is not limited to music but also anyone who might want to run a talk show or anything along those lines. Again, any organizations are welcome to take part in this. If you want an hour-long show talking about your org every week, you are more than welcome to do so.   
 
I am currently working on an iOS application (DUFM) that will make its way into the App store where you can listen to the station live on your iOS devices. In conjunction with this work, an Android application is also being developed. When both applications are ready for distribution, I will work on getting them into their respective app stores for downloading. They will remain 100% free forever. I estimate they should be ready for distribution before the end of the month, perhaps sooner if we can get the artwork squared away. Honestly, the only thing holding them back at the moment is artwork that needs to be created or modified. 
 
 
All of this is being done for the community for free, I will not charge for publishing content, nor will I charge anyone to listen to the station ever. I won't accept donations for this either. The purpose of this isn't to make money, it's to bring audio content to the community. I would like for this to be a community-driven thing, hence anyone being allowed to submit content for broadcasting. I will not charge money (real or in-game) for ads being published on the station either. I'm not here to make a quick buck off people in any form.
