Tortuga City is a building project of immense proportions looking for builders and residents to join in this great undertaking. Tortuga aim’s to be a community created, neutral player hub for all players in Dual Universe. As Alpha/Beta are now underway, Tortuga’s evolution as a community and city will progress up through launch. We will be testing, making blueprints, and finding out what we really need to keep a city going strong.

At it’s heart, Tortuga is a city project for Dual Universe. Organization affiliations and agendas will play no part in the politics or development of this community hub.
Please read this statement about Project Tortuga from Cybrex, the Project Director for Tortuga: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1-esur-s4sCeCwH3kDGlV90iz4JkHljSaTOLHaKz_FCk/edit?usp=sharing

    WHY FOR YOU DU DIS???

Plenty of organizations have cities planned. Some of these are quite ambitious in scale and already quite advanced in planning. So why are we doing this?

Well, it turns out that a bunch of us from different organizations have a real world background; or work in; urban design, town planning, architecture, construction and geospatial (mapping) systems.

And through the course of talking "shop", we realised that real towns and cities grow organically (while guided with zoning), and the idea of a single organization enforcing a certain architectural style or design thinking approach was a bit odd.

We wanted to make a place which, while based on some well thought out design rules and urban zoning, would have a feel of a free city, sprung up around trade, rather than a designed urban space (using a grid for instance) one sees with administrative cities such as Brasilia, Brasil, or Canberra, Australia.

    LOCATION?

In the best interest of developing a city long term, we want to place Tortuga in a safe zone. However, based on how little we know, we are not going to decide the location yet. We could build within the safe zone on the first starting planet, we could build on a floating asteroid in space, settle another planet in the starting solar system, or wait until build it in a completely different system.

This is what we plan to find during Alpha/Beta of Dual Universe. Finding out the best possible location that meets Tortuga’s needs.

    HOW DO WE GET THERE?

For now, we have broken the development of Tortuga down into three basic phases. These stages of development will follow Dual Universe from the beginning of the Pre Alpha up until the final release.

Phase One: Theory discussion and brainstorming of possible starting points for building. Understanding how the build system works etc.

Phase Two: Deals with the actual planning and implementation of theories from Phase One. We will be piecing together Tortuga bit by bit as we finalize it’s layout. This will be a continuous process through Alpha/Beta until release.

Phase Three: Begins on the day Dual Universe officially launches. This is when we will be putting the city together in a live setting.

    HOW TO GET INVOLVED?

Join our Discord! We have created a server for all interested in parties for Tortuga. This will also act as the main communication application for Tortuga even after release. Simply join the server, and state that you would like to get involved in the development of the project. If you just want to live in Tortuga, then that’s fine too, join anyway.

As Discord is a large part of the community, I felt that I need to shed some light on a new feature Discord introduced for game integration.
    https://discordapp.com/developers/docs/topics/rich-presence
This would be, if implemented in a non-intrusive manner, a great addition to the social aspect of Dual Universe. Since over 90% of organizations are heavy discord users.

I know that I am, and I will test, provide feedback and respect the no share on social media etc policy.
It is fully understandable why sucha policy is made.

I am fully aware of that the build won't be 100% stable, trust me, I know what a pre-alpha is.
My computer should be able to run this game at least near perfect in terms of performance once the full optimized game is out.

Knowing that JC had the game running on a slow labtop computer in a Youtube video, is good to know, considering my rig is able to run demanding games.
Following is what type of base I will be building.

I was a professional programmer for forty years, just retired.  I love programming, so I think using Lua will be a lot of fun.

If the first question had an option between the first and second choices, I would have picked that.  I expect to do things more advanced than just the basics, but I do not claim I will be a master.

Looking forward to it for sure. And not as much LUA as HTML possibilities got me interested. Front-end dev by profession
But I know for a fact after all day long at work pushing keys, mindless mining or building is so relaxing and tempting..
    Will see how it goes

I have to point out it is Lua, a name, not LUA an acronym.

That being said, I look forward a lot to scripting. I know it'll be able to get pretty in depth, but as far as simple element to element interactions go it will be very simple and fun, a lot more so than I think people realize.

That, and interactive elements, will be tons of fun to mess around with and make fun little contraptions with!

I'd rather be in pre-alpha longer and test thoroughly than rushing things. But that's just my opinion

Go AMD, for $900 you can get a decent platform to game on. And when comes to GPU 1060/ RX580 should be good enough. Let miners go for newest Vega bonanza. When comes to high end 1080 still makes more sense to go green team. But when comes to CPU RED team hold better value for performance/price ratio

Yeah, that's what I'm thinking. It looks like I might be able to run an eGPU through thunderbolt though... Even though I'm on thunderbolt 1, as long as I had a thunderbolt-3-compatible enclosure it'd be future proof and I could just use an adapter. I'm not sure how effective it would be bottlenecking through 10gb/s thunderbolt though (also used for my external display).

Yessir, never upgrade until you actually need it.  Technology is always booming.  Being in the alpha is nice, but it's not going to be as "fun" as the main game.  At least, not for the same reasons

I always enjoy alphas, as they are inherently broken... and can lead to good times in and of itself.

Saul Retav reacted to soulerlunar in Resurrection Node
So as I have been reviewing the game's lore, I came across the background for how Resurrection Node technology works. Now, for those who don't know, according to the official lore bible the current in lore explanation for Resurrection Nodes is based upon the many worlds principle. The idea is that once your character dies, the node switches the universe to another in which everything is the same, except instead of being dead, you are in the Resurrection Node. In order to conserve energy, the node only restores your naked body when it does this.

Now, this is a fairly functional explanation, but the argument why we can't use these nodes for other purposes that involve parallel universes is fairly weak. Realistically, when this technology was discovered it would've been further expanded on by scientists in order to replicate the process. There is no practical reason that I can see why scientists on Earth wouldn't have tried to make one big node to try and replicate the entire population of the earth off of the planet. Maybe that seems far fetched, but it seems difficult to believe that the nodes can only replicate universe with things inside of themselves. And while this is a cool explanation either way, there seems to be a simpler answer.

I propose that instead of having Resurrection Nodes use the many worlds principle, instead you have them designed to atomically replicate the dead person inside the node. Because players always are wearing their space suit, it would make sense that a system could be in place to constantly scan the body of the player to send back to the resurrection node. The node is given this data, and so when the feed stops when the player is killed, then the node knows to rebuild the entire player from the ground up; atom by atom, molecule by molecule, cell by cell. This could also give a good in game reason why they need so much energy, as they would be converting energy into matter to form the players. Even more, the node can only build one player because the data is so complicated, that there isn't enough memory in the node to store the constant data of more than one person.

This is just an opinion, but I feel that the explanation for resurrection nodes is the one lacking section of the entire lore. I think it could be easily simplified down to not require quantum mechanics or anything nearly as complicated. Thank for taking the time to read my suggestion.

If you want a look at the lore bible, where I got all my information on the explanation for resurrection nodes, here's the link: https://devblog.dualthegame.com/2016/11/16/official-lore-bible/

Hopefully destroyed ships etc. remain as husks in space, because that could be quite nice option and possibly something that even fairly new player could do to get valuable stuff as soon as they get their first ship with some room for cargo.

It would also be interesting to see if there are going to be battles or wreck fields of previous battles (since the resources from remains of fully completed ships could easily be very valuable, especially if they have elements that require rare resources/already built elements can be detached and used as such rather than just pile of minerals). Reminds me of supreme commander games where people fight each other to get mass from destroyed units/keep enemy from getting it.
