As far as I can tell, the problem with the markets is supply side. When I need something, half the time, it's not available on any market and even if it is, I have to fly to numerous remote markets to find everything I need.

How will this address is problem? I think it's pretty clear that it will exacerbate the problem. If stuff is too expensive to make, orgs will make stuff for their own use, but none of it will get to the markets. Assuming I can still afford to make fuel, I guess I'll fly my existing ships until the elements wear out and then quit the game, cause I won't be able to buy replacement parts. But since I'm just barely breaking even against fuel costs now, I don't really expect to be able to afford fuel.

I wanted to talk not about any particular, concluded NQ-made events, but more about their overall direction and organization in future.

    Can we expect?..

    1) Prior anouncement (at least week before start, better - two).
    2) Scheduling on week-end.
    3) Inclusion of long-term events, where players can meaningfully participate in active stage in duration of several days or even week.
    4) Inclusion of more solo/new players friendly events, where they doing more individual goals, not being clearly pitted against groups of veterans.

Because there is probably none right now -- beyond some whiteboards and, I hope, ultra-early stage internal prototypes.

Root of all our problems, generaly, that NQ spend so much time on making game tech stapples to actualy work (stuggle is still ungoing, with PvP desyncs and other painful issues), that they simply were left with very little time and resources for balance/features things we so hungry for. This why their interest in communication with us always... was kinda compomised: like there is no sense to listen people ordering you fancy pizza, when you have realisticly only 1$ frozen (4 years ago) one and microwave. Like they probably glad to make us happy, but they can't. At least right now.

Its honestly aways conflict point for me. Intellectualy I understand (or guess) NQ realities and probably they doing OK in them, in terms of survival and slow growth. Even good in some cases. But passionate, player part of me, often is in pissed-off volatile trigger state.

I'm all for NQ taking feedback and suggestions - in fact if they did that - would not have the sad state of current pvp or mining. Yet they're not the ones asking here. This is just the community talking about what they wish NQ did and NQ not at the table.

On topic - we have no idea what exactly is even required to capture a territory - and to me that is sort of the elephant in the room.

JC did mention in an interview that only outside hexes will be attackable from a claimed hostile hex. Which as I understand suggests that it is not relevant who owns what hexes - as long as I don't own a hex adjacent to you, I cannot attack.

What exactly 'attack' means, I have no idea. What are we attacking? What is the victory condition and the loss condition?

None of these are defined and everything that I can speculate on sounds horrific. Do we attack the TCU? Horrible - I hide mine so deep you'll have to fall for 10 minutes straight to get to it. Make TCU above ground. I shall encase it in an L core that is entirely made of steel. And surrounded by several other steel L cores. Just for laughs. Also - still 10 minutes underground.

I don't see any of the mechanics in the current game as remotely plausible for theory crafting how territory control will work.

The impression I got from interviews was that who owned the tile next to you was not important (so long as they are not the attacker).  The idea being that being in the centre of a city is a pretty safe place and it would be a huge undertaking to take a city.  However living on the fringes is less secure.

    Speculating:

It can be that the exponential price raise is the price of defense so if you want defense you need to make all the terries same-owner and pay the price. This makes sense as price of terri units is just pocket change.

I cannot link a source but it was said that "defense will have advantage over offence" and it's logical. If you want to mount an assault on someone, be prepared to fight on their terms. On the other hand it's logical that the defense mechanic shouldn't be easily abused by a person with 20 alts dropping terri units on all planets every other day (as they are cheap to make and will be hard to destroy) so he can use it as temporary safe heaven while it is reinforced. (They will most likely introduce reinforcement similar to eve, so you don't need to defend your terri at 5am).

NQ seems to take a lot from eve-online(and I think it's good as I like eve). So you may get more feeling about it if you have played it. Don't think you will get any info from NQ as they don't 100% know it yet  themselves.

Since we players build the world, NQ doesn't want people popping in, cluttering the game, and then leaving. I don't want you doing that either. Watch some videos and live streams and either commit to 3 months or move on to something you like more.

If you like building your own game assets and or setting up complicated factories, you'll like this game. If you're looking for anything else, e.g., combat play, wait a year for them to get stuff sorted out and balanced before you pay for it.

Any suggestions on how to lay a core that will be level with the water? by "level" i mean 'not off angle,' not 'right on the surface of the water.'

Let's not. We have too many players for the game to handle now. Once it's feature complete and optimized would be a good time to promote more heavily (I don't have an opinion as to whether steam is a good way to do that.)

I cant find the bug reporting forum, so here it is.

To crash the whole game, go to Marketplace on sanctuary 6.  Choose browse Elements, territory, territory unit.
Right click on the cheapest one for sale.  Right now that is 72000 in Marketplace 7.  Use the context menu that appears when you right click to press Buy from this seller.
Game crashes immediately.  It crashed 4 times in a row.  I captured video of the 4th one.

    Hi,

Not sure where to place a bug report, but found a spelling error.

To build the advanced anti-matter capsule, you need to use AQ-LI reinforced glass.

But the only reinforced glass I can find is AG-LI reinforced glass and Manganese Reinforced Glass.

So either the part is not in the game or is it a spelling error / typo.

If I can't maneuver tool the voxel board that Yeeted itself 10km away back to my base, then what do I do? Fix game breaking bugs before nerfing the tools we would use to compensate for those bugs.

The Alt-F4 was used to compensate for flaky mechanics. Fix your game before nerfing the tools we use to make this game bearable to play.

And nearly nobody travels at sublight speeds anymore, EVERYONE warps. So this nerfing of Alt-F4 only hurts those trying to not have to repair their ships over and over because of game-breaking bugs. And combined with the fact that elements will have a fixed repair amount, you are going to have people ragequitting in droves...

Daphne Jones reacted to Olmeca_Gold in Survivor Bias In DU's Development
When making their plane design decisions during WW2, the US-army once concluded that the most-hit areas of planes should be the parts which must be improved by more armor. This seemingly common-sensical conclusion was proven to be false by the statistician Abraham Wald. The issue was that, the Army's conclusions were drawn from planes actually made home after sustaining damage. One would notice a way different damage distribution and draw very different conclusions, if one actually looked at planes that fell down in combat and didn't survive.

I suggest that a similar error might be beginning to haunt DU's developmental prioritization. NQ is beginning to take the feedback of the currently surviving DU community very deeply to decide which areas of the game they should improve immediately. While this might seem common sensical, it might also be creating a bias similar to the above example.

My (very anecdotal) experience of reading DU community gives me the impression that we have a lot of people here who enjoy making ships and constructs. I know this would be an oversimplication, but let's for the sake of argument categorize these players with othergames they might enjoy. Let's say current DU playerbase has a lot of Minecraft, Satisfactory, Factorio people. This would check out, because voxel building has been one of the most advanced and interesting aspects of DU since early alpha. So people who would enjoy this kind of gameplay came into DU and "survived". The game ended up being interesting to them at the current state.

Meanwhile people who would enjoy PvP, dogfights, exploration, empire building, creating huge organizational (managing real people, not factories) tycoons etc. either didn't come into the game yet, or didn't "survive". Eve, Star Citizen, No Man's Sky kind of players didn't fill DU's current playerbase. And I know many of them dropped out after the weak experience in their areas of interest after beta launch. Ofc, there is greater diversity in player mentality compared to alpha, but still insufficient.

I would argue in its full potential, DU should appeal to all these types for different reasons. But since the game is still in a very early stage, the population of DU is less diverse across these player mentalities and the effects of this bias are greater. Meanwhile, some developmental prioritization decisions are being made by the influence of the existing playerbase, rather than the playerbase DU should be appealing to. Here are some examples how this happens.

    1) A feature upvote page was created with no regard to principles like "nobody reads the second page of search results". Then features were upvoted by mostly pre-beta players, cemented on top by the web page's design, and those began taking significant NQ attention.

    2) Due to surviving players, ideas like "voxel vertices editor" or "mining bots" are heavily upvoted. These are features which the Satisfactory and Minecraft kind of players would enjoy. They wouldn't enjoy mining so they'd seek ways to build without mining. But DU should be a game which should also appeal to people who like to mine. Bots would devalue their work. Instead of working on an improved mining experience, prioritizing bots is a clear example of survivor bias in development.

    3) Similarly, voxel builders are already achieving greatness in DU. Instead of elevating their gameplay further, NQ's developmental prioritization should be getting other gameplays to that level of interestingness and fun.

    4) The incoming PvP patch is grounded on solving shipbuilding problems. But meaningful choices in ship design isn't the only balance domain for a fun PvP experience. In a balanced single-shard sandbox sci-fi MMO there needs to be PvP commitment, non-consensual PvP, and a meaningful risk/reward spread. I would argue the lack of warp disruptors, warp bubbles, webs; the ability of PvP'ers to bail out of any fight even after engaging in it, are more important issues than borg cubes. I'm sure it'd be better for more people if NQ solved the core gameplay experience of looking for meaningful PvP for hours and not finding anything, or the ability to bail your ship out of engagements (thus economics, chance of death, consequences not mattering), rather than fixing the shape of my ship.

Of course, in an ideal world, NQ should keep improving all aspects of the game. I am not arguing at all that the game does not need a vertices editor, nor that borg cubes aren't a big issue. I am just saying that NQ should be wary about de-prioritizing important developmental areas which also happen to have no voice in the community since people who would care about these issues aren't even playing yet.

The game is very early and I'm eager to see how things will develop. This post is meant to be more of an early warning to NQ and a conversation initiation. I hope they keep the great work up.

I've suggested before that NQ should add T1 "solid fuel" rockets that are very cheap and even less controllable than the existing T3 rockets. That would allow them to require rockets for getting to space - for example, if space engines had to be in vacuum to operate at all, transitioning from atmos directly to space would be too hard for most pilots. You would use T1 rockets to get out of atmo until you could afford T3 rockets.

But if T3 rockets are required, space flight would be too limited.

BTW, AGG is T4 compared to rockets at T3. Of course it has different and to some extent better capabilities.
