This is nice! What I especialy like -- quite a bit transperancy, this very rarely done by others.

Since (official or de-facto) collapse of several major pre-alpha era ogranizations, that attempted any meaningful nation-bulding style of playing, societal activities were on regress, with people returning to classical "mmo raid clans", "friends bands" or innumerable "interest clubs". I obverved your activities for some time and with great interest (honestly fearing some variation of gradual silent quit), yet no, and now probably DIA in position to claim flagship role in ambitious field, where lasting success was always craved, but so far not achieved.

You get to ask questions. NQ gets to pick if they're worth answering.

You get to ask detailed questions and get detailed answers. (maybe)

Others get to add their opinions to it as well. It's interactions with the entire group involved.

The current "Go on twitch at the right time and beg a streamer to ask your question" is a massive turnoff for me.  Streamers have their own ideas of what DU should be and should not serve as the go between the community and NQ.

In the past I've seen this managed by the CM creating a weekly "Ask the Devs" thread where people get to post questions. Then the CM pushes the popular questions from the community to the dev and comes back with answers and these are archived for future reference.

There is very minimal NQ presence in the forums - and really minimal activity in general.

Things like the "Idea Box" -  may as well be called "The Idea Trashcan" because I'm pretty sure NQ doesn't look at it.

I think you as a company need to figure out just want you want this forum to be and frankly if it even makes sense of it to exist. If you are focusing on discord, why invest your time in the forum?

If you want the forum to thrive, then you need to actually have a reason to be here - which means NQ presence and to also drive the community to the forums.

At this point if you want to hear anything from NQ, Discord, Reddit or even Twitter appear to be quicker to show information about NQ communications.

NQ needs to communicate with the community - I don't care if it's via the forum, a reddit AMA or whatever.

Getting on a twitch stream with some streamer is NOT communicating with the community. It's NQ and a Streamer talking about stuff and we get to sit in the back like kids watching adults talk. It's not OK.

If you just 'clean it up' and add a fresh coat of paint, it won't fix the core issue that this forum is largely pointless.

Until NQ starts being active on the forums and actually interacting with the community here, it's going to remain largely dead.

    Hello and welcome.

Some things I wanted to say in terms of communication improvments/new plans.

    1) One of most irritating thing in NQ communication so far is severe lack of regular updates about what currently in works. We perfectily understand, that sometimes is not possibible to give us much, but even basic hints of direction is much better, then ankward silence. Like short weekly updates in some sort of free form blog posts will be godsend.

    2) More solid, direct Q/A sessions needed with key team members, last Reddit thing was, despite some troubles, very useful.

    3) At least little bit interactivity in reaction to player ideas/structured feedback on public channels... like forum. Because to be super honest, right now feedback channels nor transparent, nor exactly "equal opportunity" for all players.

    4) “Organization of the Month” --  while good idea in principle, I instantly see glaring issue. I assume, that it will be yet again (as trend with NQ featuring so far) heavely biased toward particular class of old, big, well established orgs, that, most importantly, can produce eye-candy builds and give good english text/voice interview (with "politicly correct" contents).  Considering its only 12 per year , this seriously rigs chances of everyone else to be ever featured to very low.

So my proposal on this is to make featurings in packages of 3, picking every time diversified group -- like, per example, 1 big building org, pvp one and some small, but interesting org to represent "minorities". Combinations can be different, obviously. This is will be much more fair and inclusive pratice.

The Alioth Aerospace Expo is a Community event where all the manufacturing organizations come together to show off their latest designs. We have events and contests at these Expos as well. For now attendance is free and we rotate which Organization hosts the Expo.

This time Hyperion has the pleasure of hosting the Expo. We are looking forward to present you the biggest event in the beta.

    ► When:
    Spring 2021

    ► Why should I attend?
The Expo aims to become a central hub of the shipbuilding scene. It is an opportunity for both industry giants and innovative startups to attract new civilian and military customers, by showcasing their talent to the wider player base. More than 600 constructs were already participating at the last Expo!

► Want to show off your ships?
Players and Organizations can register for exhibition spaces, one construct per area. There will be 9 areas in total.

There will be three phases/ways to register your ships for exhibition.Choose the way you prefer. We recommend our Website.

Phase 1: Pre-Registration on the Hyperion website starting 23rd November
Phase 2: Registration via a Google Form starting 14th Dezember
Phase 1 and 2 are live now! Feel free to use our website to register your ships. For boring people we have this google form.
Phase 3: During the event, free space can be arranged via Discord. For each area there is one responsible person who takes care of it.

► What are the areas? What kind of ships can be exhibited there?
    1. Military Ships - all ships that are designed for PvP
    2. Freighter - any vessel designed for the transport of goods
    3. Shuttle - all ships designed for the transport of persons
    4. Replica - replicas of constructs from the real or a fictional world
    5. Scripting - all dynamic constructs related to Lua
    6. Starter & Scouts - all ships that can operate as scouts or are especially suitable for beginners
    7. Racing - all ships designed for racing
    8. Luxury Ships - The most glamorous ships with the only purpose to sparkle and shine
    9. Organizations - Extra exhibition space for organizations with a greater amount of ships

Unfortunately, I don't agree with this sentiment.

These emergent gameplay concepts don't happen spontaneously. No, these niches will not appear "naturally" simply because some players "don't want to do stuff". No, it isn't just "up to us" to create roles and build emergent gameplay concepts.

It isn't up to us to "mesh" with what NQ is creating, it's up to NQ to create something that works with these gameplay loops and has a structure that encourages specialization. Emergent gameplay doesn't just happen out of a void. That's not what "emergent gameplay" really means.

It actually is up to NQ to cultivate these concepts.

The idea that specialization will happen naturally isn't grounded in any evidence. The fact that the game as it exists now doesn't "mesh" with the NQ's vision is on them...players won't conform to this vision just because, it requires careful rules to create this virtual galaxy which NQ doesn't seem to understand...which is the OPs point.

They will be completly gutted, but they obviously have much less "staying power" and "raw muscle" then big orgs to go back in action and many will be feeling extreamly exausted and even cheated of their hard earned assets.

NQ obviously made chain of insanly bad and unresponsable choices (with JC sometimes barely understanding how his game really played, living in world of fantasies in a way), that poisoned game and now we all paying price (generaly in both cases of non wipe scenario and wipe scenario). But can they afford it? To be honest, I think contrary.

Wipe (with some smart balancing action) was reasonable option after 1 week and, probably "bullet-bity" okaish up to 1 m into game. But now?

And to add insult to injury, NQ generaly done everything with balance and dynamics right now, to game be "asset hoarding simulator" (for majority of players, voxelmancy fanatics aside). And when wiping all this assets? Ouch. Every wasted day against them too -- more of potential damage done and, considering they barely come up with something defined up to begining of next year, it will be even more late. Clock ticking.

    > if NQ annonuce wipe early, many people do shitstorm and just quit until (until -- in best case!) moment X, obviously not prolonging so needed subs in between.
    > if NQ drop it like suprise, 1-2 week before moment X it will be... even worse shitstorm.

So, this time I personaly prefer to NQ go somewhat "conservative" with wiping and try to heal affairs by adding of new stuff/tweaking older. Sure it will be not perfect (quite possibly -- traditionaly cringly half-assed).

Yet I think they already missed opportunity, when it was survivable for them to actualy do wipe.

    Well, not only one, indeed.

Reasons obviously quite different for people (including exotic personal ones), but overall I have this a bit of creeping feeling, that game turned not exactly many hyped in their fantasies, waiting it. Not even strictly in tech sense.

Whole civilization-building aspect materialized quite meh way (to be crystally honest). Connections between people very weak (not stimulated by gameplay). Many orgs are "boring" and not producing any content or even interesting statement/conflict into wider world -- just another half-dozen or dozen guys who mining, building another factory, pile of boxes and some ships (sometimes fancy). I'm not saying it out of negativity, more of sadness.

And I probably can go even futher into anti-establishment heresy, but in way, while I immensly respect guys in disign/tech groups who actualy produce content into wider world and for their dedication to project (and helping it to live) and all artistic contribution... yet I have this strange disturbing feeling of them being in my sick head some sort of symbols of stagnation?

Like I firing up DU, and see all this "look at my super-fancy-ship that...", "i build ship that can fly ass up with 1000 kt of cargo and play on piano", "look at my base, coming up good"...

I like OMG guys, its great, but when something INTERESTING happens at last!

Most probably, my personal reason of bit of burning up (not terminal yet), that I being minecrafter ironicly, probably hate to see DU degrading into "Landmark in space" and sooner it goes futher, better.

i think it's a good idea that they keep this kind of safe zone because in the end pvp will only be good and will only happen long term if there is a reason for it, you have an option to not have to pvp 99% and it is no reason that a pve player has no where to go but into a pvp zone...

let's face it - tho i personally still think darkfall, for those that know this (no safe zone, full loot pvp), was one of the best games i ever played but this no safe zone design will just never work as the big missunderstanding is: let's remove the safe zone so there is more pvp - this is just wrong, as most pve players will just leave and not stay for the ganking. darkfall would have survived if they would have created something like eve with empire, low sec, 0.0 space so players could choose their threat level - it's all about options and reasons after all.

you need a place for pve players where they don't need to worry about pvp but still be part of the eco system and you need reasons for conflict you can fight for so that enough interested players will join and this has nothing to do with a safe zone, this will just keep more players that otherwise would just leave and pure pvpers is a minorty in mmo's by far on top that mostly leaves as soon there is not enough sheep for the wolf ^^

Yep, good thing to have in game. Those generators generaly can be done in mirrior way of warp beacons with some additions.

    1) placable on L space core
    2) expensive
    3) some cooldown to place/remove (not crazy, but just to not allow it be totaly spammable on whim).

    4) my personal addition -- adding energy demand on power for "pulling" of tonnage from warp, like heavier ships someone want to hunt, more he need to invest in power system and its maintanance.

It will also (to extent) kinda 2 in 1 adding basis for orbital fortresses in future (I hope) more deep/nuanced PvP.

le_souriceau reacted to Olmeca_Gold in Warp Disruption Area Generators (Bubbles)
    Idea:

Deployable (some sort of re-scoopable static construct?) warp disruption area generators which cut the warp of ships short and stop them, if those ships enter the disruption area during their warps. Very similar to those we see in Eve. This idea is mechanically very applicable to Dual Universe given the game's current warp mechanics.

    Why:

    - A balanced sandbox game ecosystem needs non-consensual PvP. The kind of PvP that's not occurring between parties mutually agreeing to PvP. But the kind of PvP that's between pirates and prey, where at least one side (the prey) actually wants to have nothing to do with the said PvP. The prey has profit-based motivations such as hauling, mining, and so on. Then there should be people hunting the prey. And people hunting the pirates. A successful sandbox ecosystem thus finds a sustainable balance between these parties, where neither side's gameplay is neither too oppressive nor impossible; and there is meaningful play and counterplay for both sides.

    - The current PvP iteration in DU has extremely minor opportunities for this kind of PvP. These pertain to seeking content in travel pipes between planets. And these sources will be diminishing once players progress in the learning curve, because it's extremely easy to avoid this kind of PvP as the prey side. And most importantly, once warp drives become more and more prevalent and common, they will hit the final nail as warps occur from a safe zone to a safe zone. Thus, warps need counterplay.

    How could they be balanced?:

    - The extent of the disruption zone can be balanced at the right window. Say if you are warping from the top of the Alioth Market Zone to Jago, you might get caught as it's a hot zone which pirates might be camping. But the same generator will not catch you if you move on Alioth 40 KM away from the markets at a 90 degrees direction, and start your warp there. I'd say 30-40 KM is good radius to go with. Thus, avoiding hot paths between planets during warp would be one counterplay (it's already super effective during  conventional space travel).
    - The zones can appear in radar, and thus giving people at the landing side a chance to conduct recon and warn their friends before their warp.
    - It can take time to deploy and scoop the generators.
    - The generators can be drastically costly, heavy, and be attacked/stolen. Thus forcing the pirates to "ante-up" if they want to catch people, opening up further conflict opportunities around the generators.
    - The generators may not be deployed X SU within the distance of a non-PvP zone.

But to be super honest, if they wipe like before "release", deleting all ore I mined (and other work done), I will very seriously consider if I want to play DU again and re-invest all this time. Just no more stamina. On personal level.

NQ obviously made chain of insanly bad and unresponsable choices (with JC sometimes barely understanding how his game really played, living in world of fantasies in a way), that poisoned game and now we all paying price (generaly in both cases of non wipe scenario and wipe scenario). Its just difference between slow "necrosis" damage and shock bloody fountains damage.

I really don't know how they can repair it. All options are just tormenting lesser evil things (that a quite not lesser).

le_souriceau got a reaction from Dreamstar in This game is too easy. Some Thoughts and concerns.
Yet, big orgs (who indeed bounce back) not only meaningful entities in game. And not only voices against.

Actualy, its reasonable to say, "middle class" people (ironicly as in typical IRL problems) will suffer worst -- all active solo/small group players, both old and new, who tried to relativly keep up with big guys by hard work and preparing some reserves for future. They will be completly gutted, but they obviously have much less "staying power" and "raw muscle" then big orgs to go back in action and many will be feeling extreamly exausted and even cheated of their hard earned assets.
