It seems really shortsighted, to not make Aluminium the lightest Tier 1 material, when so many people use it for building clean looking visual/non-pve ships.

Mncdk1 reacted to Hirnsausen in It's really Time: add Glass Voxels or add Merging Glass Panels or add Flex Glass
Since a long time, the DU community waits for better glass solutions (#metoo).
Those glass solutions would allow for much better-looking cockpits and bases. I describe them here again.

    Glass Honeycombs
Can be processed and altered like any other honeycomb. But there needs to be a way that the player can change them:
    - % of transparency
    - % of color tinting
    - maybe % of one/two-sided reflection/miror

    Merging Glass Panels
Requires just some attribute changes of regular glass panels to be changed: they need to overlap, to merge, without showing any former borders inside the merged area. Merger areas of two or more panels have only the weight and mass of one panel.
    More changed attributes:
    - % of transparency
    - % of color tinting
    - maybe % of one/two-sided reflection/miror
    - When connecting to other glass panels or honeycombs, rotation of two axes is required:  the one we can rotate now, and another one to allow creating large bows/arks of glass panels

    Flex Glass (auto-shaping / auto-scaling element)
This would probably require a new tool, or an additional function to the existing Select Voxel tool. The player can use the tool to select different points (voxels) of what the border edges of the future window will be, and the tool then auto-connects those highlighted points. Then the area within that straight or curved edge is filled with a thin Flex Glass (a honeycombs).  Selecting one area of that Flex Glass, it makes that entire Flex Glass area selected, allowing here, too, to make adjustments as follow:
    - % of transparency
    - % of color tinting
    - maybe % of one/two-sided reflection/miror

And as the OP said, flying used to be fun. Cruise around and see all the cool stuff that people made. Maybe some shenanigans ensue and you do some tricky flying. Now landing and using the maneuver tool to change direction is less painful than turning in the air. It is a science fiction game. It is not a simulator, It is supposed to be fun!

Yeah, that is a big part of the feel bad experience with industry. There is a massive talent investment, a massive time investment, and cost in getting the machines setup. Having artificial roadblocks on top feels like piling on.

I hope that we can some day reach a point where the balancing that NQ desires for indy takes the form of gameplay loops and not just arbitrary obstacles.

    Good Afternoon Everyone,

I'd like to chime in with my opinion as a new player on this issue.

First off, I'd like to say that I was enjoying some of the struggle when I first began this game.  Learning how to play, what to do, how to divide my points and investments, and how to make money were all a difficult but rewarding part of the game.  I began investing schematics and industry and eventually zoned in on a goal of what I'd like to accomplish in this game.

The schematic update threw that completely out the window.  I wake up at 4A for my job and usually work until about 3P, get off and handle a stream.  I unfortunately do not have the time to invest in making schematics, then setting things to be made, mining, trading, and industry.  I cannot make enough fuel to supply players like I'd hoped, cannot get access to resources I require to begin making a fleet, and I cannot get from one place to the next fast enough.

Again, this is only my experience as a new player, but without a fleet of players all working on making scrap, fuel, and warp cells, I cannot pursue what I had hoped.

These new schematics have made it too time consuming and laborious for a single player to accomplish much without spending serious time, of which I cannot dedicate.

I will still be logging in every day and attempting to make progress, but I'm no longer having fun because I no longer feel like I am making any progress.

    I really hope this changes.

That argument goes both ways. I could just as well argue that it is pathetic (your words) that some players are demanding that veterans should lose all their effort, just so that (edit) new players get to feel special for a short while after release.

This new system is cumbersome, tedious, inefficient, and "not fun". It's absolutely gut wrenching how bad industry is wrecked. It's also very expensive if you can't sell your products chaining up the schematic tree to make an element.  This is so, so bad.  I just want to throw in the towel, but not sure if my corp will come back.  If they wipe and take all the skill points with...there ...literally is no point to play.

Linking or unlinking a machine to output container has started causing lag spikes for me.

It feels like the entire construct needs to recalculate all of the links, except now it doesn't just happen when selecting the link tool, now it happens every time I link/unlink something in my factory.

This display of time needs to change. It's a ROUNDED value, so sometimes you can add/remove runs without changing the time. Make it stop rounding, preferably client time and date when the run is finished.

I have a lot of stuff that I want to say about this change, but Deckard has straight up said, that if we only say negative things, we will just be ignored. I'm sorry that I do not see any redeeming qualities in this update. Apparently that makes my opinion null and void.

Seriously, how is no no one discussing this?

There's literally zero point in composite product schematics (brick/wood/carbon fiber).

Because there are no productivity talents for these materials (only the honeycomb they are used to make), factory refiners produce exactly the same amount of brick/wood/carbon fiber product as your nanopack. And it can't be improved. So, you can make the same amount of brick/wood/carbon fiber in your nanopack with no schematics OR spend 12,000 quanta per batch and wait 40 mins each to make schematics you don't need, to make it in a factory.

Have I come to the wrong place? This says "discussion" thread...How can it be a meaningful discussion without input from NQ?

Don't you find it ironic that the only aspect of the game that is 100% player driven is the forum?

Well, I was largely positive about this update.  I even was starting to make a schematic store to help people out.  However, now that I see how this works, I no longer want to run industry at all.  I play this game because it was something fun to do after I clocked out from work.  Now it's literally all work.  Even if the schematics were free and they would instantly spawn when I needed them, the time it would take to keep maintaining these schematics to keep my current industry running is a literal job.  I have 40 Maraging Steel Smelters ALONE.

I loved this game.  I love it so much I paid for over 20 separate accounts.  I then played it SO HARD that I raised the money to beta-key those accounts because I was not going to be able to afford paying that many subs again.  I then continued to play this game so hard-in-the-paint that I built and made and started so many things.  A new org.  A large scale engine factory.  A store that sold engines.  A mining unit script that calculated profits for you.  Multiple fuel stations to keep my mission hauler running.

This schematic update literally forced me to shut down my engine store and my factory is slowly coming to a stop now.  Honeycomb Central is shutting down.  SVEA is closed.  I haven't even checked Gott Mart.

You said you wanted organizations to work together to make these things but....  there's no org support.  People have to pay for it out of their own pockets.  With multiple hands in and out of these schems and people paying out of pocket, not only is it a logistical nightmare, but if someone decides to steal schematics, there's not going to be a way for people to even start investigating.

I want to play this game for fun, but now it's a literal job just to make fuel, let alone anything else I need.

Had you all posted this in the PTS to let us look at it first, you could have gained insight as to how the playerbase was going to like or dislike it, but you all didn't.  It makes me really feel like you just have some bigsuit corporate people making decisions without any knowledge of how this game works, or you all simply have some sick sadistic plan to make a game that people love, just so you can change core game mechanics to upset then and make them quit.

NQ, you've done a lot of things I've largely considered to be boneheaded, but I still played the game because I loved it.  This one, though...  You've completely messed with the backbone of the game and honestly....  I don't know if I'm gonna keep playing.

So they implemented them without any changes or any PTR cycle. *sigh*

Sorry, but the new mechanic is just terrible. Where in human civilization do you have to copy a plan/schematic every time you want to build something in your factory? It's so stupid, and clearly just time/char-gating.

What's the point in a fuel line set to Maintain, when now I have to run round with schematics all the time? Multiplied by x number of goods that you need to make on a regular basis...

Or you are in the middle of a build, and need another few thousand voxels...sorry, might as well just logoff because you're gonna have to wait to queue up the schematics, and then wait for them to download, because your hi-tech assembly unit has forgotten how to make it. I guess computers suck in the future.

Come on NQ, can you guys not see how bad this whole system is from a gameplay perspective?

    Ridiculous.
