This is the old "DU should be easy to learn, but hard to master" discussion from NDA forums. And the main thing to be learned from that discussion (that NQ seem to not be able to understand), is that hard is not the same as tedious.

For example way back, NQ felt it was no problem simplifying flight physics (hard to master) claiming it was to 'hard' for players. And then they turned around and dialed the grind level (tedium) up to 11.

And as a side note. If not arguing your point of view for what you think would make the game better, then what? This forum would be pointless without that. So as long as you are on point with sensible and logical arguments and not resorting to straw man attacking or belittling people with dissimilar views, then there is nothing wrong with trying to form the game in your image. And then it is NQ's job to decide if they want to listen or not.

Well, NQ believes that too I guess.  Tedium is not fun.  I have enough of that kind of work IRL.

Look if there are enough players who think sitting inside of user interfaces and clicking buttons and searching for stuff is challenging, then good luck to you all.  I want a game that challenges my mind, not my patience.

0.23 ended the game for me, I logged on the day after the patch to check things out, haven't played since, I was playing for several hours most days. I am only checking the forums every now and then in the hope they will remove the schematics, which I doubt will happen. It killed the solo player experience pretty much and introduced too many restrictions on free game play. Now it's main goal is just to make in game currency and there's too much focus on the economy aspect of the game.
I was having fun with the creative side like building ships but now it would take me weeks or months to get enough currency or materials to construct any buildings on my hex let alone to experiment with ship designs. This move just handed the game to larger Org's. The ones that have multiple territories are set for the rest of the games life, anyone wanting to craft or buy their own territory unit, especially new players, is in for a rough, boring, grindfest or will have to settle for being a tiny cog in a big wheel and play the game *for* the Org's not *with*.

I can tell you that as a new player the only thing worth doing is mining ore to sell. It's not worth it to make anything. You know you can't even completely recreate the starter speeder with the nanocrafter? (Mine somehow got corrupted from compactification). It requires headlights. You can buy them for 10k a piece, to make them requires a 200k schematic. 200k! For what? The market is flooded with headlights, but no buy orders. Maybe I'm missing something. I was hoping that it would be possible to play solo or with a couple of friends but it seems unlikely. I like the idea of schematics, but it looks like they are priced to slow down "end game" players. I'll probably screw around with it another week or two, but kind of disappointed that I backed it at this point. Of course I've backed stuff that never saw the light of day so it could be worse. I was enjoying it for a while anyway.

I'm guessing that you need years worth of skills to get past the break even point of manufacturing or refining. I can only assume that's the disconnect and they want new players to be dependent on orgs. That's a long time to play space minecraft.

I hadn't focused on currency, I was aiming for the self sufficient game play, I currently had around 6-7 million, basically enough to buy 1 medium container or 'A' window schematic. Now I have no chance unless I grind for weeks or months to get enough Ore to sell. Ofc that's if server glitches don't crash my ship which will mean I'm screwed because I won't be able to go mining or afford new parts because of the damaged element changes.

The talents were reset. This doesn't really help. Now you have to remember which ones you had chosen already and/or which ones you want to leave out so you can get your production line moving again. For the most part these were chosen for quality of life, movement speed, container range(which is being or has been nerfed), industry efficiency, this is now set back again weeks or months.

The daily reward increased to 150k.  At the prices they have set  the schematics at, that will take a month for just a simple M container schematic and forget any of the big ticket items, it will take more than 2 and a half years for something like a warp schematic forcing you to take part in buying and selling but on a scale where it will take so much of your time you won't be able to do anything else in game.

To make matters even worse, it seems the schematics are spread out over the different planets, window schematics are sold on Madis for example. If your a new player looking to buy one of these just so you can make a non cube cockpit you have to wait months until you have enough currency to buy parts for a ship or pay the inevitable inflated expense of buying from players that have moved them between markets or the elements large Orgs will have cornered the market on further increasing their already ridiculous price.

I was enjoying the game, slowly forming different ship designs, taking time getting pieces made for it, mining only when I needed ore etc but now it has become more like a job, there's no fun and too much grind from needless time wasting mechanics.

I really liked industry.  It was challenging to see how many machines I could get going at once, how far ahead of my queue I could get and so on.  I would tweak on it for hours.  That fun is now gone and I am to be nerfed down to a refiner and honeycomb maker. So everyone in my org will now have to ask me to make all their honeycomb for them.   This is not fun game play.  Not ALL of us are here ONLY for the giant PVP battles that JC clearly wants to force us into.  He does not seem to want a universe full of diversity of game-play (like in most sandboxes) in any way shape or form.  We are ALL to join the three of four giant orgs in the game and become cogs in their machines.  I wanted a sandbox where I could help build a civilization, not be a slave for giant orgs that may or may not even want to get to know me as a person at all.

I am still hanging on, but ONLY for the sake of the players in my org.  I only have a few left and I love them to death, but I suspect that the ones who don't just outright quit will be forced to join larger orgs if they too want to engage in any PVP at all.  I doubt we will be able to build the modest sized transport company I have dreamed of anymore.  I dont have time IRL to do all that mining.  So, we'll see what happens, but I can tell you this.  I am REALLY going to miss playing with my factories.

Please do NOT tell people how to play the game.
I've more or less the same strategy: solo play, absolutely prefer to be independent, spending most of my time (did at least pre-patch)  building up my base where aesthetics is a priority, crafting some space ships, and visiting other territories to view their creations.

Playing an MMO does not mean that you're required to group with others.
Everyone is free to play how he prefers to - we are talking about leisure time.

If you like playing solo - just do it, it doesn't hinder others in any way playing in a party mode if they want to.

This is just some kind of madness. I really can't believe this is really happening. There is no PvE in the game, there is no way to earn a quantum other than mining, damn it. Mining, mining, mining. I hate mining. I just want to build factories and make stuff for myself. Not for sale, for my own use. As I said, I hate mining, but I'm ready to do it for myself needs. But in order to make money, to buy recipes? LOL never. I am leaving the game until this patch is removed from the server. The game is not playable for me now.

You don't have to have LvL 5 but if you want the freedom to craft what you want when you want without having to rely on others then yes you do. With the introduction of uncommon, advanced and rare versions of most elements, people aren't going to spend millions on lower tier schematics just to craft something that no-one will buy so you will need to go for the top end schematics to stand a chance at making the ridiculous amount of currency needed to buy schematics.
Working back up to crafting everything myself will take time yes but it was already taking a huge amount of time mining ores, waiting for production to finish, working out designs around the limited voxel system.  In the last 3-4 months of Beta, playing the way I have( the way I wanted to)I amassed a grand total of 6 million. This will buy nothing and the only alternative now is to buy everything from the markets.  I started playing the game as a Space sandbox, building ships exploring and alike, now  the driving goal is just to make currency in the game. This is just boring as hell and will dictate anyones playstyle. If you can't afford an item you can't have it, so you grind, eventually make something and try to sell it, if it doesn't sell your screwed. Analzye the market you say? What fun!
As for being 'supposed' to do something, where does it say that? Where does it say that Omni factories don't belong in the game if someone wants them? This just makes it a more linear experience, step 1. Do this, Step 2. Do this etc  and a boring grindfest playing the markets which are going to be completely controlled by larger Orgs either scalping high prices or undercutting smaller crafters because they have a surplus of elements.  So much for the Sandbox idea and 'Dream it, Build it'.

Most of us paid money for a subscription under different impressions. And for the last few months (the entire time I've been playing) crafting anything and everything you want has been part of the game. For most of us that's part of the appeal. Now if the devs want to change that it's perfectly fine, but they, and you, need to understand that they will become subject to the same market forces that they claim they want in their games. Specifically that people will pay for a product that they enjoy, and they wont pay for a product they don't enjoy.

Now it doesn't matter what the original intentions for the game were. The bottom line is that if your customers are demanding something and you ignore them, your customers will leave and give their money to somebody else. If this update is popular then the revenue stream for the game will remain intact, and even grow. If it's unpopular then it will shrink. If it shrinks long enough then the company goes out of business and the game goes away. Shouting at the people paying for a product that they don't understand that they were never intended to enjoy the product the way they were is only going to help push paying customers away.

You also don't seem to understand that the devs are trying to force us to participate in the market without first establishing a good revenue stream. We're a few days into this update and I'm still trying to find ways to interact with the market in a meaningful way. I haven't seen much. If the intent was to be able to manufacture something basic for a little while to generate revenue until we can afford to set ourselves up for more complicated manufacturing then the system is already broken. Basic Pipes are selling for half the cost of the materials to make them. Now I'm not a super savvy market type guy and I haven't put a ton of time into this (I can't, I have real things in the real world I have to do) so it's possible (probable) that I've missed some opportunities. That doesn't change the fundamental problem: lack of a revenue stream.

People don't participate in markets unless they have disposable income. Right now there doesn't seem to be much disposable income, so there isn't going to be much participation in the markets. Right now what I am seeing for myself and hearing from others is that the only people who can really *do* anything in the game are those of us who already had a bunch of "stuff" sitting around and some capital built up. I can afford the schematics I need to make my fuels and honeycombs, which means I can still build a few ships and start flying around. Allowing me to actually buy the schematics I need to make fuels. People who haven't been playing as long are just stuck with nothing to do.

And like has been mentioned ad nauseum there are blockbuster games and expansions coming out right now. Elite Dangerous Odyssey is available for pre order, and already does everything this game claims to be a goal minus the designing your own constructs stuff. Which you claim is not actually supposed to be a thing. Cyberpunk is out. Pissing off your customers is one thing, but pissing them off when there are a bunch of new shiny things on the market to distract them is a *really* bad idea.

The *only* thing that makes this game stand out at all is being able to design and build our own constructs. If that was never supposed to be available for any but the elite few, then why would anyone not just keep playing what was already out there? AGAIN, it does NOT matter what the original intentions were. Not all unintended consequences are bad. If your paying customers really like one of the accidents in the game development, consider it a happy accident and move on. Time will tell, and subscribers will vote with their dollars.

So now this is live, after checking, to get my crafting back to where it was where I could craft whatever I wanted it will take me until mid April next year just to train the talents for all machines.
On top of that there is now 4 of each type of industry, basic, uncommon, advanced and rare and 6 different types of each size assembly. Also uncommon, advanced and  rare versions of elements.

To make something you need the schematic..

    Canopy Windshield Schematic S - 1 million,  L  -  16 million....you know this is a window right?
Schematic for Uncommon Military Atmos Engine - 25 million(Cheapest it seems).  Advanced -  116 million.
Warp Drive Schematic - 145 million.
Warp Cell Schematic - 5 million.
Assembly Line L Schematic - 5 million( Basic)
    Container L schematic - 4.3 million
    Container M Schematic - 4,3 million.

After writing an incredibly long wall of text pointing out poor priorities and the fact they're taking away from next to nothing without offering anything new to enjoy, I came to a much shorter point...

Even tho I don't believe it will work out in the first place, there's a slight hope and I can at least see myself imagine it, well, could lead to that new progression JC was talking about. So let's assume all the good things and pretend we're not being screwed over 40% on our way to where those are that alledgedly are the cause to this change.

After all my internal rage one thing remains that infuriates me every time I think about it: we have to buy that stuff. We can not build it. What do I get from that? Did NQ lose their faith in their own ability to make a sandbox and now reverts to imposing a hard border by linking it to money alone?

Gone are the dreams of entering a world, building a space capable ship and launching off into the unknown to create your own self-sufficient civilization. You can't mine money - you can't grow it on trees - you can't find lockboxes filled with it in an asteroid belt. You're 100% dependent on trade and an NPC that got it all. This sucks.

It's clear that most of the players who have felt compelled to post so passionately about this issue are single players and those who are parts of small orgs, and interesting that theres been very little from players in large orgs, or those who have played for a long time (and have likely benefitted from abundant T2+ ores )except to say they welcome this move.   We are  passionate about this game, we LOVE this game.
The neccessary evil of mining currently has pay-off in that the more time you invest, the more able you are to open up new possibilities through production.  Ive literally been playing this game for 5+ hours a day for 2 months and have only just got to a point where I have amassed enough industry to feel as though I am on the verge of breaking through into a sustainble strategy where I can make enough stuff to move my gaming experience onto the next level and leave the safe zone.  Im by no means comparable to large factories, but I am able to manufacture basic stuff to either sell or use.
But  soon I will have to buy everything from the markets - WITH WHAT EXACTLY? EARNED HOW EXACTLY?

There seems to be absolutely no percpetion from NQ what it is ACTUALLY like for a new player to get to grips with the game. Even learning to fly your precious ship, re-entering the atmosphere without destroying it takes at least 15+ goes, thank god I was able to repair it, otherwise I wouldve run out of money almost immediately, or been doomed to life harvesting rocks on Sanctuary.  If the iterative damage of elements had been active when I was learning to fly, I wouldve stopped playing forver when my money ran out.  This latest proposal is, again, going to disporoportionately penalise inexperienced new players, and those who dont want to be part of an org, and they will be almost immediately turned off once they realise how utterly distant the fun parts of the game will be, whilst the already established, weathy players will be also affected, they will still be able to have fun and play the game as NQ intends. Unlike the rest of us impoverished troglodytes who will be forced into a life of subterranian servitude, or the better option of not renewing our subs.
I play this game because of the possibilities it presents and the idea sold to me through the marketing; I want to create, build and explore and escape the drudgery of COVID19, not pay for virtual drudgery.

This kind of basic inconsideration for newbie players and the chalenges they face is further compounded by this latest move - its almost like NQ dont WANT new players in their game.

    NQ- READ THE ROOM.
(assuming you actually do read these forums)

EDIT:  Today, after this announcement,  the cheapest warp drive available is Q3,800,000 - so thats 38 daily logins, assuming you do nothing else. GREAT.

This is going to stop me playing I think, I am part of a large ish ORG but I have been enjoying being self sufficient.  I don't have a  mega factory but I do have a multitude of machines churning away to give me Warp cells from 1 industry unit and other assemblies set up to give me a container when I need it. The initial investment for setting up my mini factory was the time involved mining for the ores, figuring out the production lines and crafting the machines, linking them etc.
Now it seems that  it will take a whole lot more time,  in game currency and talents just to get going to produce the same items. I am not a currency hoarder and to get currency to survive or get anywhere with these changes this just seems to introduce Grind.  Mine some ore, sell it, buy parts, make a poorly designed ship(now limited by my budget), try to sell that or get involved in a large ORG and play the game the way they want you to play it.
Once you've spent all your time grinding enough currency to buy what you need, making machines and training talents, unless this is your job then there won't be any time left to play the fun parts of the game like actually building things or exploring. It's in danger of becoming less of a space Sandbox and more of an Economy Simulator 2.0.

You would have started on Alioth, I think all the main areas have a start building. They are next to the UEF ship store normally, marked with 'HUB'

Dang... I actually have to agree with Majestic on this one!   Without solo players new players are forced to join orgs, and given the worst jobs possible.  Not many are going to stick around long.  "Sorry dude, until you donate 100,000 M3 of each T1 ore, we are not going to give you a ship.  If you solo and try to go it alone, we are just going to blast you out of the sky".  Gee, what fun.
