It's a balance, and right now it's tipped in favor of pvp content due to high tier ore that is getting impossibly hard to find only avalible via asteroids(which is being guarded by the that one group that soaked up most of the remaining pvpr's in DU)  When that same ore is being added back to the game via auto-miners fellow care-bears will have the ability to get access to fresh ore again... till planet side territory warfare at least

As a PVE sandbox there isn't anything like DU still, there has to be balance- by forcing pvp to gain access to resources it sorta takes away from what I thought made DU great.

I like that DU is trying to give us something to fight over- it's cool, am not against it. But there were literally 20 of 200 asteroids that spawned in the safe zone, that were mined out within minutes of going live... it's not enough to satisfy PVE content seekers as far as asteroid mining goes. Likewise, the dinner-bell for pirates that is the middle column...may as well just get rid of the "discovered" asteroid column haha... an entire fleet of people can drive out anyone that steps foot on an asteroid within 25 minutes.

It's painfully obvious that asteroids need to be rebalanced, from too little of them spawning in causing 1-2 days of the week to be roid huntin' days... to the /defense/ against pirates being to litter the sky with constructs.... and not being given remotely enough time to mine an asteroid once touched down.... Even if NQ gave us a full hour before it goes into the "discovery" tab groups will still fight over the Rare & Exotic asteroids, with player conflict still being created.

Like I had said, there is nothing like Dual Universe- IMHO the devs have very little to reference as far as what works and what doesn't- so it's all a bit of a experiment till things start clicking into place.

No, but also yes sort of.  Sorry ?

Investing something (time/Quanta) to unlock the ability to craft things is really key to the game's economy functioning.  We need that.

But i think unlocking a schematic should be a one time purchase, and you should be able to unlock them with Talents or Quanta.  But once you unlock a schematic you should be able to create the item on as many machines as you want.  I don't think the schematics should be physical items at all.  Just let us purchase/unlock them from a menu.

The process of managing which schematics you have, and which ones you need, is just too complicated.

You shouldn't have to pay in blood and tears to start up a factory.  Just Quanta or Talents.

Really confused, I have been mining high tier ore since roids came out..... because it is still in the ground.  Nothing is gated by pvp at all, and the game is VERY easy to make money in without pvp.  You can pick up elements at D6 move them 100km and sell them at twice the price.

We havent even bothered with roids yet, no need to do them at the moment.

I don't think they botched asteroids.  I think the idea just got borrowed and used to solve another problem.  The game really needed a reason for people to go out and take risks.  And this seems like a good solution to me.

It didn't need to be asteroids, maybe they should have called them comets, or alien artifacts, or something like that instead.

I do hope they add asteroid belts eventually too.  Not like these randomly generated asteroids, just huge permanent fields of asteroids, full of ore.  Big enough that even if they're in PVP space you would have a chance of doing some mining without anyone finding you.

The asteroids are supposed to be bait.  If you don't want to get caught stop trying to eat the bait lol

You're not locked out of anything, except that one little thing.  You said you're not asking them to take away risk vs reward, but then you keep demanding the reward, without the risk.

If you can have all the rewards without any risk, then everyone else can too.  That breaks the game.

You will always be able to mine t1-t3 ore, and run missions, 100% risk free, all day.  And buy literally anything you need.

You're not locked out of anything except eating that delicious bait.  That's kind of how bait works.  You're supposed to want it.

Asteroids were meant to incentivize people to risk PVP.  The Asteroids literally broadcast your location to every PVPer in the game after you land on them.

You can explore, just don't fly straight down the pipe.  And make sure there aren't any pirates hiding on your ship when you take off. Or Warp and there's zero risk.  You can still mine any tier resources you want, just not on an asteroid.  If you want to buy the schematics you can craft anything you want.  If you don't, you can buy it.

For "Risk vs. Reward" to work, the reward for the risk, has to be bigger then the reward for not taking the risk.

If what you want is "the reward", without taking the risk, you can't have that.  You can still have all the stuff, you just can't have it as fast as someone willing to take the risk.

If that's a deal breaker for you, then this is definitely not the game for you.

I just skimmed the last two pages of this thread so someone else may have said this ?.  But i don't think NQ's intention is to limit anyone to any one thing.  This is just a side-effect of them adding parts of the game one at a time.

Planetary Mining was the only way to make Quanta, or get ore, for quite a while, and everyone was doing it, no matter how much they hated mining.  So a huge amount of the ore was mined a lot faster then i think NQ expected.

All these systems are supposed to work together to achieve a balance.

It's like NQ's trying to build a stool, one leg at a time, while we're all sitting on it.

Also you can still make Quanta mining.  Or running missions inside the safe zone.

Up until now there was zero PVP content.  Now they have one thing.  Let's just let them have it maybe

I never made it onto the test server myself.  But this is a new issue, it's only been happening for a week.  And NQ knows about it.

The servers are down for an update tomorrow.  So hopefully that will include a fix.

Yeah but all the discussion about a wipe on our side is around the idea that people think we "need" a wipe to level the playing field.

All the discussion about a wipe on NQ's side is about whether they might, at some point, actually need to wipe because of technical changes to the game.

They left the door open because it might be necessary.

But they've never even entertained the idea that they might wipe to level the playing field.

#2 was already in the code of conduct i believe.  I don't think i have ever played an MMO that didn't have that rule.

It's kind of necessary in a game with a persistent world, and an economy, where exploits involve duplicating or getting stuff for free.  If everyone finds out about an exploit like that days before the devs do, it causes a huge mess that they have to clean up (hopefully).  Maybe they'll decide to roll back the servers, and piss everyone off.  Or maybe they won't do anything and still piss everyone off. ?

Either way everyone ends up pissed off, and the devs spend a bunch of time doing things other then working on the game.

Atmosph3rik reacted to Ving in The new Chair Surface...great idea, terrible implementation.
Back in Alpha the external view for all chair units was focused directly on the players character, something like this:

This was great. You would spend weeks building a ship and then fly for a few hours to another planet (before warp), but it was OK, because with the camera pointed directly at your character you could zoom in/out/through the ship and view it from any angle. This was perfect for taking screenshots of your ships in flight, you could get close ups directly in front of the cockpit, or behind the engine stacks, etc. I would post some Alpha examples, but that's not allowed ?

With the introduction of PvP NQ decided to change this external view and give the current 'periscope' view instead:

Now, the camera is directly above the construct, and as you zoom in the construct disappears from your view. There is no way to zoom in directly on your character/chair. (Unless I'm missing some hidden keybind??)

I had assumed that with the new Chair Surface NQ would have implemented a view similar to the old Alpha chair views, where the zoom is focused on the character. Unfortunately, the external view is just a copy/paste of the periscope view ?‍♂️

If you put a Chair Surface on an L Static, you get a camera way up in the air above the center of the construct, with no relation to the position of the Chair Surface, and no way to zoom in on your character.

This is such a bad implementation ?

The original Alpha external camera zoom view would be so much better, and would allow you to place Chair Surfaces in different locations, so ppl could zoom in on different sections of the construct to admire the building work.

    1) Please NQ, add an option to change the zoom view on Chair Surfaces to the old Alpha style zoom, so we can actually use them to view constructs, rather than some nebulous empty space in the air above them.

    and, more importantly...
    2) PLEASE also add an option to change to the Alpha zoom view to all other chairs, (Command Chair, Hovercraft Seat, etc.). Not everyone PvPs and needs the 'periscope' view. As a ship builder I really want to be able to view my actual ship while flying it, and zoom in/through to my character. This would increase the enjoyment of ship building/flying no end.

It would probably take someone a couple of hours to implement, heck, you probably still have the old code in there somewhere

Atmosph3rik reacted to Physics in Walking onto someone else's construct is now an exploit
Maybe a clean up on how the rules are based on the docking changes coming is needed.

Walking on and exploring a parked ship anywhere is definitely not an exploit it’s part of the game.

Parking characters on a ship in the safe-zone logged off or on with the intent of using the lock player tool on that character to track a ship is an exploit. This will soon be impossible to anyone without RDMS rights to be a passenger.

Boarding a ship already in the pvp zone is not an exploit and fair game. Different rules apply here yarrr. The anti stowaway RDMS in the docking patch should / will be disabled as soon as a ship is in pvp space.

Things definitely missing from this gameplay is the docking patch, AVA, HARPOONS! / tractor beam type elements and some form of low accuracy or delayed update time long range tracking of ships in deep space. NQ needs to get this stuff in for everything to finally make sense.

When i fly near buldings i can see my computer is warming up. I got RTX 2070 Ryzen 9 3900 and 48 GB ram . GTX 1660 and Ryzen 5 3600 should be bearly enough but 16GB ram is not enough for shure. That can cause frizes. Also External SSD is disaster in my opinion. You got Fast drive but connected via slow cable. I only use M2 SSD on bord that have more than 3GB/s transfer.
So to sumarize i think your PC is to week for smooth fly near planet and buildings.

My sugestion is very simple to implement and solves all your voxel problems:

Make copy & paste of voxels to be a text format(yml, json or xml) in windows paste memory.

    That way you could:
Copy your in-game voxels and paste them on a notepad file.
    With that file you could:
    save for later use
    store it in git
    share it with friends
Open in a community made 3d editor.

Yeah i don't think i'm a fan of this idea.

It seems like they are trying to force some kind of battle royale situation where all the people who want to shoot at each other get dumped into the same area and blast the crap out of each other.  Honestly that's fine, i just don't think it should be lumped in with asteroid mining.

Usually i'm the first person to say that good gameplay is more important then "realism", but i'm having a hard time wrapping my mind around this one.  Who is broadcasting the location?  is your own ship ratting you out? is the asteroid trying to defend itself?  Is Aphelia just bored and trying to make us kill each other?

What if instead of every single asteroid that gets discovered, being broadcast to ever player in the game.  Maybe once a day or once every few hours Aphelia broadcasts the location of a high value asteroid, that's somewhere in PVP space.  And then everyone can go all crazy trying to get there first and fight over it.
