I mean, if it did, it would be leaving all those poor star citizen players with nothing else to play, because the two games have almost nothing in common other than the word Space.

I think staggering is a great idea. The below is not.

    • For players who haven’t set any headquarters, five headquarters have been automatically assigned based on the highest number of static constructs on the territory.

There are inactive players owning key tiles preventing the expansion of huge community projects. These types of projects are what we were told is part of why we are here in DU.  Not following why protecting inactive player hexes anywhere outside Sanctuary Moon is a good idea. We have always been told the only fully safe location is Sanctuary Moon.

Please NQ - give us a means to remove or claim inactive player hexes. There are key locations preventing 100's of current players from expanding the building projects they are doing together due to players who left the game weeks into Beta.

To me the problem is that after the last wipe, and up until the last Q&A, NQ had made it very clear that they didn't intend to intentionally revert player's progress, for the sake of reverting player's progress.  There is plenty of evidence to support this.

Any situation that might have required them to wipe, they could at least give out magic blueprints "so that players are quickly back on their feet".

A wipe for the sake of "resetting the economy" wouldn't really work though, if they provide magic blueprints.  And i don't see how NQ could keep their promise to "attempt to mitigate these effects through plenty of forewarning and various dev means so that players are quickly back on their feet" if their intentions are to do the opposite.

They can't really mitigate the effects of a wipe, if the effects of the wipe are the only reason they are doing it.

I'm not going to say i'd quit playing if they wiped, because i probably wouldn't.  But the truth is that there are several projects that i've spent a huge amount of time on and was planning to spend a lot more time finishing, that would likely never see the light of day again.  It would take me months to get back into a position to start working on them again, and from past experience i know i probably won't get around to it.  Huge builds have a kind of momentum that it can be hard to recapture, for me at least.

The fact is i've already walked off the Arcship twice with empty pockets.  I might not quit, but it's really hard to imagine mustering the same enthusiasm a third time.

If they do wipe for the sake of wiping, i sure hope all the people who quit playing once already, come back with a lot more enthusiasm this time around, because it would be a shame to have 100% of the player base alienated and unenthusiastic.

The second solar system idea sounds incredible to me, it really seems like the ideal solution.  I hope they consider it whether they decide to wipe or not.  It sounds like it would be fun.

Well, Among other things, that I got my issues with, the UI is the outstanding thing.
Why? Because it makes a difference, if you get a 95% calibration, or a 100% calibration, but the bar on the left won't show you.

From this you can't tell, what you will get. Plus, even if that bar would give you a precise number, it would be tedious to find the 100% spot (which was found, meaning I should be able to claim it easily).

Thus, I suggest, that either the 'SET FINAL CALIBRATION POINT' (and the UI is even yelling at the player, allthough it is a button, after all) Will display you the best spot that you already discovered.
Or it should use a small circle from which it picks the maximum.

Why bother theorizing about this stuff if you have no idea how any of it works?  You're just kind of throwing crap at the wall to see what sticks at this point?

You don't have to pay the taxes on a new tile, to place MUs.  You get three days of free mining before you have to decide whether you want to pay to keep the lights on.

In the press release I posted above you can clearly see that NQ sent out press material which stated beta was in NQ's own words "the last planned wipe", which just so happened to coincide with charging a monthly subscription and also in NQ's own words "a great time to start...". A press release is just that; facts from NQ as a resource for game journalists, etc. All of that combined, at the time, made it very much sound like the "persistent" game was worth playing for those who don't like losing things they work hard to acquire/build/whatever.

Yes, it's not a "promise", that is the wrong word, but they clearly tried to encourage people who would have normally waited and not paid to work for temporary stuff to start then. I never play a game seriously before a wipe but that was convincing enough for me that I thought I might regret waiting a few years for "launch".

They did what they did, we are where we are, now we just need to sit back and wait for them to announce what they plan to do. Hopefully sooner rather than later.

It wasn't my intention to put words in your mouth. I am legitimately interested in what you consider a whale and why you think they are a problem. Saying you have a lot of quanta doesn't really explain who or what these whales are, or why you think they are a reason to delete everything.

I'm glad you have a problem with exploiters, cool, we have something in common. I still don't think it's a good reason to want a wipe. I've heard of a few small patched exploits, but nothing major personally so maybe I'm just uninformed. What was the biggest exploit that ruined everything? Assuming it's safe to talk about old and patched exploits..? Or if there have been so many, could you enlighten me with the top 3 please? We're still only speculating that NQ hasn't done anything behind the scenes. I have heard a few whispers that they have. I'm sure we can agree they are pretty hush hush in general so personally I'm not that convinced there have been any major exploits that can't be recovered from and weren't dealt with to at least some degree. I'm open to being convinced otherwise though.

I have no problem with you personally and I wasn't trying to make you out to be the enemy. My apologies if it felt that way. I do however have a problem with you and everyone else pushing this wipe agenda because I think it hurts the game. I also think the majority of people that want a wipe are those who feel like they "could do better next time" or something weirdly selfish and not based in reality. I'm not saying that's you, I understand you're in a good place resource wise which is why I'm curious about your two main points as to why *you* want a wipe.

I'm going to try to stay positive, enjoy my time playing DU believing in NQ and that everything I do is here to stay and if they decide to delete everything I will silently disappear.

You are right that they have absolutely no real obligation to keep the vaguely worded promise that they made.  But the fact that they made it matters.

They used that wording to sell subscriptions.  I wish that they had waited until launch for a final wipe, and to start selling subscriptions, but here we are.  A lot of people wouldn't have subbed to a game that still had a planned wipe.  They would have waited too.

It might be convenient for NQ to do a full wipe at this point.  But if they do, they will be breaking a promise.  The promise to, as you put it, "make a best effort" not to wipe our progress.

It might be too late for them to make that best effort.  But it's not too late for them to own up to the promise they made and figure out how to make the game work without a full wipe.

Legally i think they can do whatever they want.

Financially, it would probably bring in more money, short term.

Ethically, it would be a despicable thing to do.  And i hope they don't do it.

I think it would help if you scaled back your expectations for what you "need" to accomplish in the game to enjoy it, if you want the game to be a relaxing activity.

This "game" is a work in progress.  And they are letting us play with it while they work on it.  But it's a game, so they're always adding more gameplay.

Just about every time they've added stuff to the game, i've had to scale back my expectations.  In the pre-alpha i could pretty much build anything i wanted.  But then they added resources and crafting and i needed to mine if i wanted stuff.  In the Alpha i could build a factory and craft anything i wanted, and then they added schematics and i had to start collaborating with other players.

Being able to do all that stuff was fun.  But the game itself will be a lot more fun, hopefully, once it's finished.

The game needs the "game" part.  Not everyone is content to just build stuff.  I might last a year or two if that's all there was, but even i would get bored eventually.  And the social aspect is important to me too.  Having other people in the game is what makes it exciting.  So the game needs to be fun for everyone, not just me.

It's not a "no wipe" statement and we all know that.  It's "If we have to wipe, we'll do our best to get you your stuff back"

There is just no way they can fulfil that promise and also intentionally wipe progress for the purpose of wiping progress.  I'm not saying they can't break their promise, but they sure as hell made it.

By intentionally ignoring that you're doing some pretty heavy spinning yourself.

This is not a discussion about whether NQ said they would wipe again or not, it's a discussion about whether NQ said they would intentionally revert paying customer's progress or not.

You can keep trying to have the other discussion if you want, but you're just disrupting the real discussion because you don't want to have it.

Q: Was the wipe at the start of Beta the final wipe?
A: There are no currently planned wipes of Dual Universe, however, NQ retains the right and ability to do so for balance, technical or gameplay reasons, NQ will attempt to mitigate these effects through plenty of forewarning and various dev means so that players are quickly back on their feet. The only case of a wipe will be if NQ sees no other option.

We have asked NQ to consider this:

Release with a new system. All new accounts will only spawn in that system.

All existing accounts are stuck in Heilous until a stargate is crafted. Make the craft time long like in the 90-180 day area.

This gives new players a clean start without veteran interference. It gives existing players an option without a wipe where they cannot snowball over new players. By the time the stargate is crafted enough time has taken place to allow new players to grow without interference.

Lastly it will add subs for NQ as some of you will not wait you will just sub a new toon to see and start in that system until the gate is open.

Sort of a middle ground between wiping and not wiping.

The last Q&A brought up the topic of the "wipe" again. I don't understand why this has now become the basis for discussion again. I decided on a 12-month subscription because it was supposed to be a persistent universe for us players and a "wipe" would be used as a last technical resort if there were no other options.
In no way was there any equality given from beta players to players who don't come until release. I would not have created my account and my children's if we had known there was going to be an economic wipe. At the time, NQ said that we beta players should already be building a society and civilisation so that players who will come to release will already see content and not arrive in an empty, dead solar system.
In short, I no longer enjoy playing something that I'm about to lose and then have to pay for.
Would they go to the cinema and pay admission if after the cinema their memory was wiped only to be asked to pay again?
We would like to continue playing, so I hope that there will finally be a public and clear information if and in which form a wipe will take place. Currently, many players are moving their buildings to Sanctuary Moon in the hope that they will be safe there because it is (still) tax-exempt. Is it possible to save these many hours of rebuilding because a wipe will destroy everything?

Translation from German, I hope everything is translated correctly?

The other amusing thing is you dont seem to have any idea the REAL reason why the ore price has shit the bed is.  Several MAJOR ore whales that have been hoarding ore for many months and artificially holding the price high, mainly to ensure products like warp cells retain high value, have all started dumping ore before they lost a TON of quanta (as they have been buying at high prices for some time).  I know this, because I have dealt with them since early alpha.

To quote one "it was fun whilst it lasted"

Couple that with the MASSES of additional ore mined by players clearing out mega nodes before the patch, which was also dumped.  THESE are the reasons why it has plummeted.  The people worrying about paying taxes lol, they have ZERO effect on the market.  The players who effect the market, could stop playing for six months and still not worry about taxes.

You people......lol, some of us know more than you think.

As a builder I'm going to have to disagree with that completely.

In the last week I've seen tons of awesome mining rig builds.  I haven't even had time to build one myself, but i'm looking forward to it.

As for large scale builds.  Just filling one L core with something meaningful is an insanely huge project for one person.  If i ever manage to build something that fills all five of my HQ tiles i think at that point, I'll be ready to try building a space station.

I would imagine they probably discussed a hard limit on how much land/space we can claim.  I don't think that would have seemed all that unreasonable, if it had been what they decided to do from the beginning.  Having no limit at all was pretty nuts.

I think having a soft limit that you can pay to exceed with in game money is a pretty good deal.

Its fine to be critical of NQ itself, but these are people that deserve our respect. I have seen countless examples where they have gone above and beyond to advocate for the playerbase and fix issues on their own time.

Hate the game all you want, hate the company all you want, but please give the individual devs your support. They need it now more than ever.

I guess this is NQ's problem really.  Do they make the game for the people who have stayed and kept paying subs or do they risk alienating those people (by deleting all their progress and erasing the history/shared story they created) to try and recover the ones who haven't played for a long time?

Trying to recover the old players at the expense of losing the current ones seems like a risky strategy to me -- the ones who left once will probably be harder to retain than the ones who were resilient enough to stick with it through all the changes and problems.  If it were me I'd be trying to keep hold of the current set of players rather than re-writing the game for people who don't play it.
