With shipwrecks being so rare currently I think they should give a large reward upon finding them. I have yet to come across one personally. But I have no motivation to look for wrecks if I can mine and make a huge profit and supply my organization with everything we need to thrive. I feel like at this point if I went looking for shipwrecks I wouldn't be contributing to the organization and not being a helpful member as where other gameplay loops the contribution is easily seen. I would like them to add more shipwrecks and maybe some kind of abandoned precursor civilization outposts just more POI (points of interest) in general in the future and give explorers something to actually gain. Elite Dangerous for example you can scan planets and sell those scans at stations and still make profit.

Istanicas reacted to MadmanMac in let the whole world know about this game
I don think this game is ready for more advertising, let alone steam, lolz. It should never have come out into Beta in its current state and it in no way should be charging people a set price, let alone a sub, to join the game now. They would be better off, closing the doors, going back into Alpha, and coming back into Beta when it is far far more polished than it is currently. All they are doing now is alienating players from the very base that they will need later.

Put it out on steam...   pffft,  I actually choked on a biscuit I was eating when I read that.

Istanicas reacted to le_souriceau in Let's talk DU events
I wanted to talk not about any particular, concluded NQ-made events, but more about their overall direction and organization in future.

    Can we expect?..

    1) Prior anouncement (at least week before start, better - two).
    2) Scheduling on week-end.
    3) Inclusion of long-term events, where players can meaningfully participate in active stage in duration of several days or even week.
    4) Inclusion of more solo/new players friendly events, where they doing more individual goals, not being clearly pitted against groups of veterans.

    same here
what really annoys me is that i dont even know the root of this problem
is it a local client thing? is it a serverproblem? a world generation problem? are these cheeky invisible nodes, implemented on purpose to get activated when we mined out too much ore in a year or something?

what really bothers me is: do these ghost nodes impact the territory scanner results
im hunting a 1.6m hematite ore node on my territory for hours now, not knowing if it really exists

an answer by NQ will be very welcome and could potentially save me and others ALOT of time and frustration

    ok update:
i took a territory scanner result
then i mined some of those buggy supernode walls and pulled a second territory scanner result

    the findings:
the found ore value decreased substantially for this specific ghost-node ore
all other ore values stayed exactly the same for both results

this is horrendous news because it makes me surrender this territory with its alleged 1.3kt hematite
it convinces me that its not a clientside problem, solvable with deleting cache or something but rather that its a world generation problem, where there was some mechanism, that overruled placed ore nodes but didnt correctly replace some data flag responsible for triggering scanner tool and territory scanner results.
under this impression i highly question, that it will be feasible to not reset the world when DU comes out of beta
sure, you can generate new planets with improved algorithms but when the starting solar system has those crucial bugs that are causing so much frustration and time loss how will NQ be able to bind new players to the game.

yeah we want new content and all the cool goodies but when fundamental game mechanics are so irreversible bugged, every new and amazing feature will just be like a wonderful and tasty cherry on top of a pile of garbage

for now its ok. its beta and NQ has my benefit of doubt but when the game enters a post-beta-state im not so sure about this

I have dealt with dozens of ghost readings on meganodes now.  Last one was 800k of Natron missing on Lacobus.  We found the previous 1.5 million in a node and mined it out.  When we started searching for the last supernode of ~800k we tripped over a couple small 3k nodes and a 20k node, then 2 ghost nodes that had nothing there.  We hit it from every angle and even dug out the entire area.  Nothing to be found, nothing on directional scanner.  Checked the entire hex and all scans either point outside the hex or back to those two ghost nodes.  EXTREMELY frustrating.

We threw in the towel after several hours wasted looking for it and went after the next meganode instead.  First reading was a ghost node of natron on the next hex we searched, several hexes away.  Ignored that spot and kept searching and thankfully found the next meganode.

The problem of ghost nodes is bad enough.  But the silence from the devs on this very major issue is deafening.

I tested a coal megahex on Lacobus. Initial scan showed 4.6M coal, Few small nodes and one meganode gave about 2.5M coal. Afterscan showed 1.8M coal. I cleared every other coal node and scan dropped to 1.5M. The one megavein was right at edge of the hex, and it was rather easy to find all other nodes within the hex. I dug search tunnels every 100m altitude around the megavein, and few tunnels down to 2km below surface.

End result: 1.5M coal in terrain scan but no actual coal.

Great discussion.  Thanks to those who have contributed.
I built my bases underground.  I just figured that if eventually we can shoot at bases with atmo ships those weapons might not damage ground blocks in the same was as honeycomb.

I think the protections in place will protect you greatly. I am sure that if you are peaceful in nature and want to do only building and no combat there are options for you. However limiting pvp to arenas would also cut down on tons of people who like to do PVP or just play to do PVP.  The STU and GTU mechanics talked about offer tons of building options in safe areas. Space stations are the  only real thing that my organization discussed that almost wouldn't be worth building without having sentries on guard at all times. Since space is open pvp. I am interested in other people thoughts on this.

From what I undestand Beta is being treated essentially as a soft-launch so a wipe is not expected for the Official Release and whatever you create will remain in some form or fashion.

Novaquark has stated they are planning an upgrade to the planet after Beta that may require some constructs to be removed, but they will be returned to you in the form of "magic blueprints" with everything included and will allow you to respawn your constructs as soon as the server is restarted.

No, in fact Novaquark has stated they will end Alpha pledge packs a couple weeks before the start of Beta.
If you're only concerned with Beta then whether it is cheaper or not will depend on how long Beta lasts. A pledge will guarantee full access to Beta while purchasing Beta subscriptions will be by the month, in increments of three.

If, for example, Beta lasts 6 months then subscription would cost $38.45 versus a $60 pledge that would give you an extra Beta key and three DACs.
Judging from the latest Release Roadmap which states Beta is expected to run from "Summer 2020 to Early 2021" I'd say it's likely it'll be at least 6 months before Official Release.

Nope. Regardless of whether you purchase the pledge or buy Beta subscriptions, neither will consume DACs. DACs will only be used at Official Release.

What a boring game this would be if nothing ever gets destroyed and if the world outside the safezone doesn't feel dangerous.
It was always advertised as a game where pvp can happen at all time, anywhere except in the safezones. Deal with it and don't try to change it now because you don't like pvp and obviously never bothered to inform yourself what DU is

As holes are made in the ground for mining it would be nice to have the ability to fill holes and gaps in terrain voxels via a terraform fill hole tool. There would need to be limitations around its use above ground though to prevent entire constructions out of terrain being abused by ownership mechanics.

Istanicas got a reaction from BiGEdge in Running DU multiple times on same hardware
There are ways of playing DU on the same PC. You just have to have knowledge on how to do it. I personally don't run alts ever just because its too much for me and I don't like doing it. However I know people could use virtual boxing and VPN's within the box. I've had it explained to me how they could bypass the systems in place easily. I wonder if in the future if someone was found out to being doing that would it be a strike against their account or would it just become something accepted. If someone can multibox in star citizen then they got to have a awesome PC or multiple though for SC and CS I don't see a reason why you  would want to multibox at all. In DU I could see it being useful for people that don't play in groups. Personally though I don't think its going to be a big issue.

Istanicas reacted to facemywrath in Territory Terraforming Unit
I was thinking tonight at work about how me and my org might end up digging out an entire territory and how it would take an hour for each of us to get 2km down with just a regular tunnel, let alone digging out the entire thing. Then I thought about how Grimmstone mentioned to me:
and my brain went towards the future of this game. If the endgame goal is the potential for massive organizations of thousands of members owning entire planets, and perhaps even solar systems, then shouldn't it be at least a little easier to terraform a single hex territory?

Then I went onto thinking about how to make it cost effective and not overpowered and the balancing of the whole thing and... well here's what I got.

A Territory Terraforming Unit could be placed as a ground element, and requires being pumped up with Terra Cells (patent pending, not really) that would cost an exponential amount, based on the total work being done in an operation. How it would work is you interact with it and it would load you into a separate simulated environment of your hex territory, showing a rough estimation of the ground in it. Then you could have tools such as "raise ground" or "lower ground" or "change ground material" etc. You put in these operations and the more work you want done to the territory, the higher the cost. When you click apply, it saves the information to your computer (not to the server, yet) until it can start the process. Then you must feed into it the given amount of Terracells, and press start. This process could take up to a day, depending what all is changing, but would still be so much faster than doing it by hand.

The balancing of T-Cells (HAHAHAHAH) depends on what you would want them to cost. If this is a far-late-game item, make it exotic or rare elements. But ultimately I'm expecting a pricing system close to how warp cells work.
