    Yup exactly.

And bounties with ava still are at least 2 years away...... you know, after they release du in 8 months with all promised mechanics. But thats no problem because "there are no red flags"

Get the core mechanics right after all those years and im order for EVERYTHING  to work they finally need a working server tech which doesn't shit itself when more than 10 constructs or players are involved. If that works then change studio and let others with knowledge and experience get game mechanics right.

Oh and hire a god damn UI dev

To be fair, the du website, promotional videos and materials paint a picture of a game which it not only fails to deliver but in all honesty is likely not possible to ever deliver.

The scenes of mass close quarters combat and crowded areas running lag free are complete misrepresentation and you cant blame someone for feeling scammed.

Saying "you should have done your due diligence" doesnt make the email from that guy claiming to be a Nigerian prince not a scam.

Du is still luring in subs based on complete misrepresentation of what the reality of du is.

I would say this level of misrepresentation goes beyond "positive spin pr" or "avoiding showcasing product weaknesses"..

The only thing they can cling to is the "fine print" of "we said its beta and still under construction" under the premise that they intend to deliver the game as advertised eventually, and if they fail to do so they can use a bunch of excuses they will claim were unforeseeable to dismiss claims they were intentionally misleading

There are laws in many places that do actually combat the "fine print" loopholes.. where a more common sense approach is used to determine if the seller misrepresented the deliverable

If you look at what they present and what they deliver, I dont think it's a stretch to classify this as a scam

I'm going to keep this short, since I haven't played in 3 months:

Removing HTML is overkill. The UI rendering solution you use in game already supports dynamically updating HTML without having to rewrite the entire content. See data binding in: https://coherent-labs.com/Documentation/cpp-gt/df/dfb/_h_t_m_l_data_binding.html

If you're worried about performance, this will be more efficient than your new Lua solution. You should make use of the technology you have already licensed and use instead of reinventing the wheel. More advanced UIs could be generated with the use of JS on top of this.

"Specialize and use the markets" *boot to the head with schematics*

I came in after schematics so I didnt get what all the fuss was about.

Ok.. I have been specializing and have some t4/t5 refining and smelting and basic parts lines up.. I mine ore, refine, produce low level parts from t3 and t4 ores and materials... good mid level products...time to start using the market

What? The lag is so bad its basically unusable? It would take riddiculous time just to go around and put my stuff for sale

What, all the high level stuff is built by god like tychoons with full production lines that dont buy anything but ore?

    So I'm left thinking..

    I FINALLY GET IT!!

I was defending this game and arguing that people must have been cry babies overreacting, cause I was making progress in specializing... I just hadn't got to the point where I was ready to sell yet....as soon as I tried to "take my wares to market" I realized instead of creating an economy of specialists.. all they did was creat an economy of elite industry tycoons and ore mining peasents

At least before 0.23 I could have said...oh well.. if the markets and economy are unusable I'll just make my own stuff and have fun

IvanGrozniy reacted to blundertwink in Which one is vital for MMO: Programmers or behavioral psychologists?
Yes. Because they want to make more money.

It's certainly not because they want to create the best games filled with "meaning". Behavior psychology and statistical modeling helps Activision and Microsoft farm their players to squeeze out as much profit as possible. They help extract as much monetization as possible through addiction and gambling.

Of course they'll spend a ton on these projects -- theres's ample research that discusses the predatory nature of game monetization and how it exploits addiction and especially targets young people.

It's still the subject of ongoing legal and ethical debates.

Can behavior psychology be used to create rich game experiences? Sure, maybe...but that's not what these big companies care about and that's not how they utilize these assets -- their interest is purely in creating addictive loops and exploiting those loops to maximize profit.

My post isn't about "hey let us keep our stuff" and coming off like an upset child doesn't make people listen. I was speaking with the mindset that the game will die. Now that I see the post from NQ, I have a bit more hope. With that said however, in the spirit of a dieng game I wanted to take a second and reflect. Maybe with some luck new management at NQ hears us that if they want us to dump hours to build this civilization, they need to communicate. Also acknowledging that I/we as a community aren't perfect either. That's all..   They need us obviously in terms of income and to make this game into the thriving civ they advertise. We need them to keep the lights on and update, bug fix, whatever. Symbiotic relationships and such

Looking at the situation of this game, all you remaining hardcores can think about is "but... what about my stuff?"? It is like the world is at war, an ICBM is about to hit the city, and all you can think about is your gold in the safe? How about we all agree to a f***ing wipe (including the talent) since this game has been released in such a condition that it shouldn't have been released? Save the game, save yourself, not save your gold! This is the f***ing problem with you people: you are in an Indiana Jones movie, there is a cave full of gold that your team have discovered, the cave is about to collapse and you want to remain there until your death because you couldn't let go of the gold! Fix the f***ing game, wipe it, and let us all restart in an equal foot! This isn't f***ing Lord of the Rings man! You people have been consumed by the ring, succumbed by it's power! Get real with yourself man! You people are full of joke! Talk all you want OK, the f***ing game is about to go!

    yup.... ez ban bait.

Generally speaking, fix the game mechanics. Written rules are going to be broken, there will never be enough case-by-case manpower in order to judge these things. Game mechanics should dictate what is feasible and what is not. Otherwise the devs are fighting their own sanbox because of broken mechanics to the point where the sandbox is not a sandbox anymore.

Alright, let’s talk about the positives first.
-fixed linked container range after VR. That is quite sweet, I like it, but you are no linked to the second last container you linked to. They hotfixed the infinite range on that after 30 minutes, but the new situation is as annoying as the old one.
-Notifications now correctly show size of the item sold or bought. Again, really nice, but the item name is now missing. Instead of "sell order of 2 uncommon space engine" it now says "sell order of 2 XL" (at market market)
-"A possible crash when using fireworks in the northwest corner of a space station close to feli while still on the first step of the long tutorial has been fixed". About bloody time.

    Now to the bad stuff.
-While the extension to the extension of the parking space at market 6 may solve the parking issue. I think maybe we need a more long term solution.
-The introduction of LUA controllable speakers really did not help the market 6 situation. Especially since the client still loads all sound files, even if you turn the sound off.
-the idea of warpgates to create chokepoints but also shortcuts for long distance travel is awesome. Sadly in the first hours players were able to build space station directly in/at the gates within the safebubble. Why is there a safebubble anyway?
-There was yet another ninja patch and now nickel is the strongest for pvp. After every patch we have to check the stats for honeycomb.

For anybody who missed it, here the transcript for the MC interview, the video is currently down.

user: So most of the industry talents don’t work, the other trees also have talents that do nothing or the opposite. When will those get fixed, what is so hard about fixing them?
MC: Great question. As DU is a consistent single shard universe with a player driven economy, we think that only a low amount of users actually do industry with massive factories while most other users dive deep into all the other content the game has to offer.
user: So about that other content, some players are complaining that besides mining and selling to bots or ship building and spamming advertisement there is not really that much to do.
MC: Yes, i fully understand your question. So we constipated Dual universe as a consistent single shard universe with a player driven economy and deep industry mechanics. The world is yours to take and make your own.
user: Also, given that the new player experience gets worse and worse, with the broken tutorials and and only free tiles 40 kilometers from the next market, it seems the influx of new players has stopped. Do you see this as an issue that needs fixing?
MC: The interesting thing for new players to discover in DU is that we actually made this game as a consistent single shard universe with a player driven economy. As such, the new players are a business opportunity for the existing players.
user: The other players and I, especially I, especially right now, often don’t feel understood. Do you think the new ticket based feedback system, with positive feedback pushed to the front via "triage system in times of increased activity" can give you the information you need about what the community is thinking?
MC: Oh yes, you are right, I totally agree. We listen to the players, this is important as our game, like our economy, is player driven in our consistent single shard universe. The world is yours to take and make your own in Dual Universe, a consistent single shard universe with a player driven economy.

This will allow for easy ban bait when I offer free taxi and log out 500m before the safe zone with passengers on board and they "transport" my ship by regular game mechanics outside of the safezone and they or someone else captures it. Yes safe zone is supposed to be safe (from PVP, not mistakes!) but as there is a perfect counter for any kind of theft (docking to space cores), everything else is pure negligence and wasnt be covered by the safe zone (before), because this opens every door to more issues. Especially considering other game mechanics and situations which allow transition between safe zone and PVP space will be affected by the changed situation. So since the safe zone is now completely safe from any responsibility and negligence logically (and by common sense) I wonder: Does that also mean any kind of roleplay/ingame scamming is forbidden in the safe zone? Any kind of miner slavery? Any kind of luring people into the pvp zone? RDMS theft protected? etc. etc. This opens a lot of questions for me here, since these things would make the safe zone incredibly unsafe.

IMO the bigger issue here is what sort of game do you want?  Do you want to have a game where people log on and have space adventures in a risky environment where  unexpected things happen, people do good and bad things, create interesting stories which you can tell people about, people lie, scam, steal, you need to be careful and earning trust really actually means something real.  Or do you want a game where everything is guaranteed.  Your stuff is 100% safe if someone says its safe, nobody can ever scam you, everything takes place in walled gardens you control and if someone pushes the boundaries of the game mechanics a bunch of space-lawyers pop up with 10-point questionnaires (with sub-points!) trying to work out exactly where the walls should be and anyone who gets creative runs the risk of getting banned.

I'm not involved with either side here, but personally when I read stories like the Elias VIlld one I think that sort of thing is fantastic and I want to play in the sort of world where stuff like that can happen.  But then again I thought it was a fantastic story when that person stole a whole market but the GMs don't seem to have agreed ...

Deckard somewhat not said full truth in this statement, also. Because Elias issue was obviously super prioritized, up to involving not only GM, but actual developers.

Not something "per usual" ticket can expect in several hours from support that always "overhelmed".
