Burble got a reaction from Novean-51583 in DU Racing - what is possible so far
I know, I've been going on and on about making a race track for a while now. Well, the two tracks are all laid down now and ready for racing, time trials, illegal gambling and so forth. I can't even begin to describe the hours or explain why I would willingly do this to myself, but I think this is the kind of community that understands insane building projects so I don't fear too much judgement. Think I might quit DU now for a while. To the handful of people who kindly donated a bit of material here and there your names have been cemented into the foundations of the course at various points.

-2 separate and complete race tracks covering 10 hexes on Alioth

-The scale of the tracks allows for high speed racing. I'm really excited for to see what kind of racers people dream up.

-A restricted class cup and an unlimited builders cup could be something for the future.

-Head to Head racing for quanta

-There are pit garages for sale on site for race teams.

-Land plots available for opening shops and markets for those with a plan, contact me.

As for the racing and physics, I think what is possible with a bit of practice is really pretty cool. Like a 2021 version of that old classic nintendo game F-Zero if anyone is as old as me.

A  lap preview of the two courses can be seen as raw footage here:

Here is the super cheesy awesome bit I slapped together.

The total materials if anyone is interested are approximated here:

    Aluminium: Countless millions of litres
    Concrete: quite a lot
Luminescent glass: a really serious quantity
    Alioth sand and rock : >2mil L
    Madis soil: 200,000 L
    Symeon soil: 190,000 L
    L and M cores: more than 135
Time for construction: 3 months more or less
    Quanta spent: all of it

VR Station is open : Melanuma Super Speedway race track - come visit and set a waypoint, then come race and build.

Burble got a reaction from GraXXoR in Warp removing any risk from pvp needs to end.
Except that the higher tier resources are already swiss cheese in all but the highest density ore (mostly claimed) areas. Most people only travel between planets now to pick up schematics or to literally sight see a planet they have never visited. I don't care at all if they open the game for the warp campers to have some fun, but I also doubt very much there will be many targets. More importantly most targets will be worthless in terms of loot, simply a new player with their hard earned ship being destroyed for no reason at all. I predict hordes of lonely and bored space pirates waiting for hours to squabble over a single XS core warp shuttle now and then.

The most silly part is that there is nothing to stop all the raging warriors from organising constant battles between each other and having PvP heaven everyday. But that is not really the point is it? the point is a pack of wolves preying on the outnumbered lambs simply for the fun of virtual murder.

There are enough people who desire PvP to have fights everyday. Think about that. It's a sandbox, go make some PvP fun.

No, I mean the 2000m tall space elevators. Flying into invisible ones and taking damage, if as you say the collision boxes are decoupled, would be less fun than hitting the visible ones

No, it's bitching as a result of limited thinking by players.

How you cannot make money other than 1the daily reward is beyond me.

    You can

    1) sell ores to bots (not ideal, but you can make millions in a short amount of time)
    2) If you have a space-capable ship, run to other plants/moons in the safe zone for players who want the higher tier schematics, but don't want to run to those places themselves. I've paid out over a million to people to do this very thing, on top of paying for the schematics and I've only bought about two dozen through others, buying another three dozen schematics myself.
    3) produce honeycombs that people want, but don't want to do the industry for. I've seen several people ask for certain t1 and t2 honeycombs, asking if any was for sale.
    4) Produce atmospheric fuel and sell it for a profit. You can find a market that has too high a price and sell it for slightly less.
    5) make quality ships and sell the BPs. You don't need to have all of the schematics for all of the tiers of elements, just make some nice looking ships that have some functionality or purpose behind them. You can even make ships that are interesting and people may buy them. Once you've made a ship, Core BP it and then take it apart and reuse the elements for your next ship construction. If your voxelmancy skills are low, watch some videos on it and practice. Don't expect people to throw money at you just because.

This is not brain surgery, you can and should be figuring this out, not having it handed to you on a silver platter. This applies to everyone.

I've not been hurt at all since the patch, in fact I'd say it has helped me narrow my focus to concentrate on what I REALLY want to do, instead of moving from one thing to another because I can.

I've never had more than 9 million at once, and usually it is well under 1 million, but that is because I claimed a number of hexes, not because I bought things from the market.  I could sell what I am using and make an easy 30-40 million, right now, but money is not my object, it is only one stepping stone on the path to my goals in the game.

Sure....that's why they are hiring more staff and are able to put out adverts on mainstream platforms. That must also be why every day there are new players on support channel asking for help, saying how cool the game is, embedding themselves in the community. You must be right.

Wanting a game to fail simply because it does not give you what you are looking for is not the same as the game actually failing.

Burble reacted to TranscendRat in Developer failure while in a pandemic Situation
Thanks for this invitation Burble. I might come back to it because I by my self are interested in creating content. The problem with that is to generate the resources for it has become a problem. For the size of builds I do the login bonus is by far not enaugh. I´m not interested in mining a hour per day. Ingame I set up scanners and logistics to aquire t3+ ores. Because with them I could grind what I need to build in 20 minutes. This is all gone now since the market broke. My assets have become worthless at this point. I swapped to skill me towards handling to make a new income methode, just to figure out that everyone did the same and there is nothing more to upgrade. All of this together with the fact of the decreased player number and overall activity is simply frustrating.

I understand your argumentation and you are right that just crying and yelling wont help. This is the reason why I write the posts. To encourage the discussion. It is not meant to blame or to demonize. But  just to be silent as you mentioned does not solve the problem. Still, my major point is that there was no need for the patch before there are no other ways implementet to generate money, like missions. NQ shut down the game activity without offering alternatives. To do this in christmas times and while in a pandemic was a big failure. People left. The game suffered.

The reason that I´m still here is simply because I hope the best for the game. But NQ should talk and listen to the players. Now more than ever. Because without us this universe does not live.

TranscendRat - Come play with us before you decide to really quit. We are building hover race courses and gliding games and generally have a good laugh for hours every day playing the system that is in place now. I appreciate your honesty about how you feel  on a deeper level and find it brave that you throw it out here. Come play, we are waiting for you.

The biggest problem with this rather toxic forum now is that of  people not understanding what a sandbox is.
People saying there is nothing to do now that industry is dead.

There was never anything to do unless you can imagine that a space battle is fun, or building a giant complex is fun, or building a beautiful and well performing ship is fun, or role playing as you interact and trade with other humans is fun. Anything that is fun in this game requires imagination and friends with imagination to play it with. If the only reason a person plays is to amass space money and store away space resources then why even bother?

We have already made games to play within the game, quite a few of them.. and guess what...they are fun. Many of us are enjoying DU as it stands.

Building is still very affordable. Daily bonus is enough to get a honeycomb schematic and a honeycomb refiner. Mining for one hour will get you enough ore to build a huge building. The doom and gloom outlooks about it being impossible to do anything in the game are simply not accurate and it hurts the game if you turn away a new person with this dramatically exaggerated behaviour.

It is not fanboi behaviour to look at the positives or to describe how better to enjoy what there is so far.  My friends and I are always talking privately about what NQ could improve, what they fucked up on, what they did well. But we do not feel the need to constantly whine in public in a way that could further damage the chances of the game succeeding. Because.... duh...if we turn new people away then our self fulfilling prophesy may actually come true and the game might just fail.  This entitled and self centred outlook is so incredibly selfish and short sighted it makes me write this kind of response in the vague hope that even one person will take a look at them self, stop behaving like a spoilt teenager and make the decision to either shit or get off the pot.

It's really starting to resemble the angry boyfriend who claims he has no love remaining for the ex girlfriend..... but just cannot leave her alone or allow her to move on and find new happiness.

No, just no. We really should stop spreading this lie. It is not eliminated at all, it is just a much longer and more rewarding game. Anyone can have a factory that makes a few specialized parts within a week. The only difference is that now not everyone can build everything in the game right away. Which is vital if any kind of market economy that make sense is to exist.

People asking for a wipe now are nothing but selfishly motivated. Majority of cases is to give them an advantage over what they have now.

The people asking for no wipe are not doing so because they are rich and powerful, they are asking for no wipe because they have spent hundreds of hours and every possible quanta they own on building beautiful things.

You guys want a world where everyone plays the same exact game. A survival game where you try to build all your own stuff. That's not what the creators want though. They want an economic, warfare, and cultural simulation, and you don't do that by just letting everyone build everything they want.

I hope the creators have the courage to continue forward toward their vision, and ignore the players who only care about playing a shallow survival game. Those types of players are fickle and will inevitably bounce to the next new shiny game anyway.

My vision is to make sporting events and activities and large scale locations for said ventures within the DU arena that take advantage of the enjoyable physics model that underlies hover and flying vessels. Even skydiving as a sport (my real life job) is something I can see possible in the future.

I also am a ship designer, however at present ship design seems to be more focused on how to haul the most ore. It is a shame that creative and artistic assets are less desired than ugly giant bricks that can carry a third world country's GDP in one flight. But this is not the fault of NQ, it is a facet of unimaginative and capitalist driven human players.

That is the only problem with the game right now, in my way of looking at it at least. The pure capitalists. Those who want more money and resources every day but have absolutely no intention of using those riches to make a beautiful environment for anyone else. The new patch has slowed me down briefly in my goals, but I accept that because it has also pushed a little way towards halting the pure and ugly capitalism that apparently humanity is unable to avoid falling into.

I agree with your sentiment towards the design of ships, I'm a designer myself and always like to have functionality in companion with great looks. I know that there are a lot of ships out there which only purpose is to get the job done and lack aesthetics. We have to keep in mind though that not all players are designers, and that's ok. This actually makes a great opportunity for designers cause we would have a greater audience to sell nice looking ships to. There is also another factor which contributes to having less design oriented ships, which is that the game being heavily invested into grinding, pushes you towards just making the cut in order to be able to make your virtual company grow economic wise and not lag behind.

And in relation to the sport activities it would be great if we could do something like that within the game. I'd love to wing suit myself from the top of 1km building

People would lose the will to ever start again. These are the people who are not active on the forum after every patch complaining because they have been quietly producing beautiful and awe inspiring features on the land, sky and ocean.

A wipe will not fix anything, it will quite definitely destroy the game for anyone who plays it for creative purposes. The amount of effort that goes into finishing a creative project *read 'creative' not just a bunch of engines and airbrakes smashed together in a mess or a box with some factory units inside*, even for an M core ship, let alone a 25 L core building complex, is immense and we were led to believe that this world we are building will be persistent into the future of the DU universe. Not wiped out completely just because a few people cannot adapt and overcome a new limitation to their economic progress.
