    I find it amazing.

The original Yama-BOT doesn't take any 'personal' information.  It grabs a key posted on your PUBLIC DU Forum Profile and grabs the fact that you are or are not alpha authorized (also public) so that the discord unlocks a few channels by giving you a tag.   (And NQ has SEEN his code which is good enough for ME...  I've been coding for over 30 years.)

It simply can't do anything else, it can't grab your Discord PW, it can't grab your forum PW.  It's secure.  It's safe.  Whether @yamamushi made/makes the code for the bot public or not is moot.   The same would essentially apply to the author of this bot.  Please, don't take MY word for it.  Go learn how to make one on your own, and if you've the ability to do so, you'll see I'm right.

I get the reservations from those that don't understand the 'magic' behind the scenes.  That's fine... don't use it, but don't speak badly from ignorance or being uninformed... unless your intent is to merely troll the post (and in a civilized society that would be the ONLY reason ANYONE would do so... cuz they'ze ig-nant), in which case you can just go <insert your choice of nasty self-inflicted idiocy here.>

SGCamera_Beta reacted to NQ-Nyzaltar in no AVX = no go ?
    Hi everyone,

    @Kirth Gersen
AVX instructions have been implemented in intel processors in 2011 and AMD processors in 2012 (for processors oriented to gaming activity, which generally does not include Xeon processors made before 2013 and Celeron processors). These instructions give a substantial improvement performance-wise. While a lot of games rely mostly on GPU Power, this is not the case for some games, using voxel technology. Voxel calculation is, for the moment, mostly handled on CPU side (at least for the moment, as no current GPU is optimized to calculate Voxels). That's why having AVX instructions is required.

For some games, it could make sense to make a "No AVX required" version. For others, like Dual Universe, it's not worth it: the performances would be so bad without AVX, that it's not worth it to spend a fair amount of time (re)developping a "No AVX required" version. So no, there is no short term plan to remove AVX requirements.

"Minimal" requirements are the minimal specs to be able to launch the game, not to have a decent game experience.
That's what "Recommanded" specs are for: to have a decent game experience.

That being said, if you want to ask for a refund for this reason, please contact the Customer Support at support@novaquark.com

    Best Regards,
    Nyzaltar.

While you are obviously free to be of the opinion that minimal requirements purely relate to performance, the general accepted meaning is that you will need the specified hardware to run the application. Your CPU is three generations behind the minimal requirements at least so it's not suitable to run DU.

In technology terms you are using a quite outdated CPU. It would be like driving around a 1950s car in today's traffic, it may be able to keep up but to say it's a safe or suitable way to drive in 2019 is at best questionable. Expecting technology and software development to continue to support outdated hardware is not reasonable.

The i3 7100 in every way out performs the i7 970 with half the core count, it's not even close.. TDP alone is 1/3 of what your CPU required, memory and bus speed is way, way higher on the i3. Lastly, using a 1080ti with a CPU that provides not even half the bandwidth it needs to perform optimal seems also a bit odd, it's pretty much like driving a fast car with the handbrake on all the time.

It would be very bad for NQ to accommodate ancient hardware by removing ways to be more efficient through modern day technology. I guess you have a choice to make here.

    That's the plan though.

    Deal with it.

Also, since you have zero clue of this - and its obvious - AI needs its own server (since NPCs are client instances operated by the server). Tell me, how much will the AWS hosting costs skyrocket for NQ, if they were to add PVE, with scripts and how much would it ruin their developement crunch if they were to add pointless PVE, cause YOU are lazy and don't want to mine?

DU is not a theme park, they never advertised as a Theme Park. It's a Sandbox. They never said the will add - or want - PVE with dungeons and loot bags.

Plus, DU if it had PVE, it would be like EVE - people showing up when "epic snowflakes" do a high end boss, murder the snowflakes, kill the boss, get the loot and post the kill mail humiliating the Carebears for being dumb.

The only PVE they should add ,is for hunting and skinning for making cool clothes and stuff. Link PVE with the actual economy, and making PVE a profession, not "kill 100000000000 wolves so the Space Princess can give you the Sword of Carebearius".

You want PVE to get materials for your ship? Might as well tell them "make wolves drop money". That's the level of disconnect you have with economics.

SGCamera_Beta reacted to Rabbyte in Link-able fuel input port
Fuel tanks being exposed is generally a bad thing, and we generally tuck them away from the hazards that would damage them.
To allow access there are fuel lines leading into the tanks from the exterior of vehicles.

I propose an element that achieves this same function in Dual Universe. It could be linked to a tank (possibly several) to allow for one way fueling to the connected tanks. it wouldn't make the tanks capacities shared in use with other elements, but would allow for them to be internalized in the vehicle protecting them better from outside complications.

The logic goes as follows; you can fly a plane with one engine, but not without fuel. Propulsion systems would be completely compromised if fuel tanks are taken out.

Internalizing elements is possible (as seen in the tutorial videos) since voxels can be temporarily moved, but having to move them after every few flights seems very inconvenient. Then there is always internalizing most of the tank but having a "window" that exposes part of the tank, but that still has the vulnerabilities associated with an exposed fuel tank.

SGCamera_Beta reacted to NQ-Nyzaltar in Recent Bans: Clarifications
    Dear Community Members,

As some of the Novaquark recent moderation and sanction actions haven’t been clearly understood by some, here are some explanations and clarifications. We are aware that members from “Dark Star Imperium” (DSI) and “New Genesis” think that the decisions taken by Novaquark have been unfair and/or feel like a punishment. It’s not a punishment and we limited the inconvenience to the minimum possible by just resetting the member list of the Organization. This has been done to remove all ghost accounts and make the involved Organizations restart on a healthier basis.

We also made sure that at least one person in each of the involved Organizations can re-invite real members in the Organization:
    - CN_Firestorm for “Dark Star Imperium”
    - Chipfromearth/SpaceKitty for “New Genesis” (until the end of TMA’s ban)

You are more than welcome to contact them to join theses Orgs again if you wish to do so.
Keeping in mind that besides the cleaning of ghost accounts, nothing else has been removed. All community work/content related to these Organizations have been left untouched. We are also going to send an email to all ex-members to inform about the member list reset and offer them to join their former organization again.

Regarding the ban of the leaders of these Organizations:

We understand that seeing your leader banned might be frustrating. However, we want to make it clear that being at the head of a big Org does not give a free pass on toxic behavior and/or bad practices that could damage the Community as a whole. Being passionate, being young, creating quality content is no free pass for such things either. That’s why all the permanent bans decided recently are final. We are not giving such heavy sanctions with a light heart or on a whim. In more than four years, the number of community members who have been banned permanently from the community can still be counted on the fingers of one hand. We think it speaks volume... Some recent rumors say that the bans may be reversed or canceled. There is no ground to such rumor. It’s just disinformation. The fact that a banned member will “not tolerate that” has no weight either. It’s the Novaquark team’s call and the Novaquark team alone.

Now, we want to give a fair warning to anyone wanting to challenge Novaquark’s decisions openly, directly or indirectly. If a community member has been permanently banned from the Community, he’s excluded from the game, which means he shouldn’t be in any Organization anymore. Reinviting or keeping a community member banned permanently could have serious consequences (such as Organization disbanding but not limited to that, as this could trigger other sanctions for those actively supporting banned members).

Now to address some specific questions/rumors:

We exceptionally give some details to the Community to show that we are not banning randomly or without a serious reason. We do it only because some banned members try to take advantage of the confidentiality policy to enforce their own narrative and play the victim, and attempt to misinform other players. Don’t expect the Novaquark team to give anymore information on this case or the possible future ones.

    “Banning Sakej99 was a mistake. He’s a different person from FullSend/Lime”.
The Novaquark team is aware that Sakej99 and FullSend/Lime are different persons. However, that doesn’t change the fact that the permanent ban affects FullSend/Lime will also affect accounts he may have access to (by account sharing, which is forbidden in our EULA). This is one of the main reasons why we are so serious about forbidding account sharing. If someone sanctioned got access to your account, the sanction can be extended to the said account even if you haven’t done anything wrong.

“FullSend/Lime has been unfairly banned, with no prior warning.”
First, for the infraction this community member has committed, there will never be a warning as it was obviously utterly wrong: if a false report is sent to the Customer Support in an attempt to make another community member banned, the one getting the ban is the one who sent the false report. And in this case, indeed, there is no prior warning.

Second, FullSend/Lime is probably the person in the community who would deserve multiple permanent bans (if it was possible), due to previous infractions in addition to the most recent one. Playing the card “no prior warning” is just complete dishonesty and denial of assuming the consequences of his actions during the past couple of years. Here is a short list of the infractions he has done in the past:
    - Asking members of one of his former organization to give login and password of their accounts to him.
    - Using accounts of other players.
    - Creating ghost accounts.
    - Using a loophole in the organization management system on the Community Portal in an attempt to sabotage/destroy an organization by using the account of another player.
    - Participating in a doxxing attempt.
    - Always denying the facts or trying to minimize them, to the point of reaching self-absolving, to avoid dealing with the consequences (a practice reiterated with his last infraction).
Due to the history of this community member, there was no reason for “prior warning” with his last infraction. He has been warned too many times already. Mistakes are not erased just because it happened “long ago”.

By default, Organisations where FullSend was the founder have their ownership transmitted to the oldest member with the ability to create an organization, which gave the following results:
    - CN_Firestorm becomes the new owner of “Dual Insider”.
    - Gravetender becomes the new owner of “Project Azimuth”.
If you are a member of one of these organisations and you want to discuss these changes, please contact the new owner of the Organization.

(About DSI) “There has been a total wipe of the parties to kill the conflict”
Wrong. If that was the case, we would have dismantled “DSI” directly and ban both DSI leaders, which would have included CN_Firestorm. You can assume that if it’s not the case, this is precisely because there is a difference between CN_Firestorm and Primarch. This sanction wasn’t against DSI. The sanction was against Primarch.

Some of the banned members may say “They will be back”.
It’s up to them. However, if we catch them, they will be banned without further notice.

    Best regards,
    The Novaquark team.

What you are seeing in that picture is called a "Condensation Trail" (or a "Contrail"). Those trails are formed by water vapor coming out of the Engine or changes in the air pressure. The Engine exhausts 2 things, both CO^2 and water vapor. It's not just the Engines that can form them, the Wingtip as well can form them. We call them Vortices.

For more information about "Condensation Trail" ("Contrail"), read https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Contrail

That is the Chemtrail Conspiracy Theory people make ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chemtrail_conspiracy_theory ).
Those coming out of the Engines are not mostly chemicals, those are mostly clouds. Those coming out of the Wingtip are all clouds.

There is no such thing as a "Chemtrail" (try googling it and it will all lead you to conspiracies).

How about this picture below? Like I said, the Engines both emit CO^2 and water vapor. What you see here is a feature of a Contrail. CO^2 doesn't leave a trail, the water vapor does. There is no such thing as a Chemtrail.

"Experts on atmospheric phenomena say that the characteristics attributed to chemtrails are simply features of contrails responding to diverse conditions in terms of sunlight, temperature, horizontal and vertical wind shear, and humidity levels present at the aircraft's altitude." (source: Wikipedia)

Also, Contrails can never form in space or non-athmo planets/moons. That's not possible.

They have to pay for it so it wouldn't make much sense to restrict them. You can't punish them for being online.

SGCamera_Beta reacted to NQ-Nyzaltar in "DSI / TSU / UEE" investigation
    Dear community members,

A few weeks ago, we took a stance regarding “out of the game”/IRL-related practices to discredit, threaten or shame publicly another Community Member (even if the involved person is guilty of several infractions) that could be an opponent in-game.

As the DSI (Dark Star Imperium) / TSU (Trinary Star Union)  / UEE (United Earth Empire) case blew out of proportion during January, we investigated.

We are really serious about differentiating real life from the game itself. Unfortunately some didn’t take our stance seriously. We gave them a chance to come clean in a private discussion and restart on an healthier basis. They didn’t take the opportunity for what it was: a last chance.
As they preferred “playing dumb” with Novaquark staff, we can’t have any trust that they won’t continue. Therefore we have decided to ban permanently those Community Members for various reasons (all not being banned for the same reason(s)):
Not being honest towards Novaquark staff. Making and encouraging ghost accounts. Abusive recruitment practices. Practising real life harassment and/or threatening another player. Making false report to Novaquark’s Customer Support in an attempt to make ban someone they dislike. Spreading real life information without the involved person’s consent, aka Doxxing.
(strong reminder: even if a person gives you real life information about him/her, it’s not okay to share these information with ANYONE else without his/her consent. You can’t predict how the other person(s) will use this information and if he/she/they won’t share it again. If some trouble occurs following this sharing, you can be held legally responsible).

This might seem an extreme sanction but this shows how serious we are when we say we are not going to let toxic attitude and practices spread in the Community. Our goal to build a healthy and friendly community isn’t just a figure of speech. Anyone caught to spread or encourage any toxic behavior will be removed from the Community as it will be considered as damaging the Community and negating Novaquark staff efforts (without saying that it’s time consuming and a waste of our resources).

Saying it’s a long time grudge coming from before the arrival in the Dual Universe community is absolutely not a valid excuse. If someone has a personal grudge with another community member, he/she should either:
Leave it at the doorstep and/or settle it in private and peacefully with no one else involved. Contact directly (and only) Novaquark staff if the issue persists.
The moment someone uses the Dual Universe community as a tool for IRL revenge, he/she is not welcome anymore. We’re all here to have fun. It should always stay that way.

Therefore, the following Community Members have been permanently banned from the Community:
    Lime / Fullsend / mmtheboss / Sakej99 [DSI] Primarch Zelevas / TharisUEE Melkor_Morgoth
In addition the DSI Organization member list has been reset, and the Novaquark Team has appointed CN_Firestorm as the new owner of the Organization, should he accept to take a fresh start on a healthy basis.

We also give a warning to all those who were indirectly involved (with the evidence we found) but not actively participating in the recent community troubles. Next time, there won’t be any new warning. If you become involved against your will in some shady real life activities, you have only two healthy options:
Leaving the group doing such activity immediately. Report it to Novaquark staff.
If you stay in such group without leaving or reporting it and the group is caught, you take the risk to get the same sanction as those actively involved.
This investigation has taken (or more precisely wasted) a lot of time from Novaquark staff. We really don’t like to intervene in players affairs. However, if there is a chance that such affairs damage the Community by toxic behavior, you can expect Novaquark staff to step in. We hope we won’t have to take the same measures again.

    Best regards,
    The Novaquark Team.

SGCamera_Beta reacted to OldingDaGrund in Should automated static defences be added to duel universe?
Yeah, true.   Everyone will have their own take on what they'd like to see (and what they wouldn't like) in the game.  However, I'd like to think that there will be some organizations in the game that will recognize the exposure and prestige that will come with building, owning and running a great-looking, well-designed city, developed over time to be filled with a variety of interesting content and roles to play.  News of these places will spread throughout the community, and perhaps attract new players to the game via third party media sources.  Of course, those places would also attract tyrants, hence the need for adequate defensive mechanisms in place.  I think automated turrets are reasonable.  Some organizations, then,  are bound to see the value in providing players with fortified PvP safe spaces outside of the safe zones around the Arkship to build, in exchange for a payment of 'protection money' (i.e. taxes).  Heck, some organizations may even be role-playing oriented organizations, and may be open to the idea of creating cities in order to pursue their role-playing exploits.

Perhaps, the tax system (like in real life), could be tiered accordingly (tax-bracketed), based on a player's total income per a certain designated amount of time.  Then again, that kind of system might require too much in the way of administrative overhead for an organization, and be open to all kinds of accounting shenanigans.  A fixed system, where all members are charged the same amount of quanta per X amount of time, would probably be less of a headache to administrate.  Perhaps, the organizations themselves will employ someone to organize some direction in the building activities (in terms of zoning), so as to give the end result some coherence and structure (see, we have a role someone can play already! ☺️ ).  I don't think every PvP player simply wants to play the 'Dread Overlord' who has come to smash and pillage, and I don't think every builder/architect wants to play the hermit and hide in some sort of PvE ivory tower.

I think (at least, I hope) that there will be a significant number of players who want to strike a balance between the desire to build relatively free of harassment, and wanting to get out there and get involved in building some places of interest for the development of some engaging and emergent story-telling.   In that case, the scenario I described above would be a mutually beneficial way of achieving that.  Novaquark have stated that they want DU to be a game where you can do anything.  I'd include deploying automated turrets to guard a fortified city inhabited (to a fair degree, hopefully a large one) by creative city-building types who want to build something that is altogether awe-inspiring in Novaquark's description of the intended purpose of the game.  This game is therefore going to attract all sorts, so it's only fair that if there are those (and there will be) who want to invade and conquer, it should be made bloody hard for them to do.  Empire building through military conquest , I would imagine, is a hard slog.  That will help retain the interest of those players who want to create and connect in peace, but don't necessarily want to limit themselves to a pitiful 20km radius.  The best sci-fi worlds created in popular culture are not just about blood, mayhem and military might and domination.  They're also the about the interspersing personal stories, within the overall narrative, of distinguished places, cultural belonging and human connection (as soppy as that may sound).

    Look at it this way:
DU is a pioneer as far as MMOs GAMES go.   They are building a massive, fully single shard, fully destructible, voxel based world.  The only game I'm familiar with that does this is Space Engineers - and that can only manage 10-20 concurrent players.  DU is intending to support tens of thousands.  DU won't be released for at least another 2 years.  At that point, your "3 year old 2015 rig" is going to be 6 years old.  That IS old.  Because of their pioneering technology, they can't afford to support old hardware - it would severely limit what the game can become. Even setting aside the issue of obsolete hardware specs, much of that hardware doesn't support the software that is needed to make DU a reality. DU is a subscription based MMO.  It will be operating for (hopefully) decades.  Supporting obsolete hardware now will make maintenance and updates more difficult down the road. Optimizations are something that typically happen in BETA.  We are not there yet.  Maybe it will make it less intensive to run - but it won't bring support for older hardware. If you want a unique and amazing game, you need to push the boundaries of available technology.  Dual Universe is doing just that.  The cost is that you will need a modern gaming computer in order to play it properly.

To be clear, I agree that necroposting can be a problem.  I just believe that there are plenty of situations where enforcing it to the letter of the rules is frankly ridiculous.  As seen above, the moderators can handle these situations in a reasonable and acceptable manner with their own judgement.  The rules should be adjusted to officially allow the moderators to have discretion in these matters, specifically such that in relevant and not out-of-date topics, they do not have to be locked.  I believe that continuing these (qualifying) conversations is much better for the forum than splitting them to a new thread every few months or locking them entirely.

I linked the topic above because in my opinion, it was an example where locking the topic seemed overkill.

    Hello there,

The following is likely rather nitpicky. Since people can (mis?)judge purely written communication in different ways I'd also like to add this isn't a huge concern for me. It's simply something I noticed and that could be potentially be improved sooner than later. I also thought about mentioning it via PM to NQ first but on the other hand I think there can be sufficient public interest and input to this, while NQ is of course free to set the rules as they deem necessary. But if public input can perhaps improve or clarify, then why not?

Last but not least, since rules are mentioned it is not only something we have to keep in mind and follow as community members; it would also be some kind of "procedure book" for moderators that have to enforce the rules after all. So while there might be bigger problems and more interesting (game related) suggestions to consider, it's something perhaps not completely trivial either. But I let you decide now.

»Short summary of suggestion and solution
    1) Recap
Change / reword a current forum rule to allow what is now technically considered "necroposting" in some situations that would be deemed widely acceptable however. Further info and reasoning below.

    2) Suggested solution/s
Reword or add a clause that allows this in specific situations or exclude situations where it would not be necroposting. Here's suggestions, highlighted in blue:

    (III) Following actionsa re prohibited:

[...] Necroposting on old threads (unpinned threads in which the last reply is older than 2 months) with the exception of player organization and on-going idea threads. Necroposting on old threads (unpinned threads in which the last reply is older than 2 months). Moderation can see to exceptions or enforcement on a case-by-case basis depending on the topic. Necroposting on old threads (unpinned threads in which the last reply is older than 2 months). An old thread can be considered as an exhausted or completed topic. Posting in old exhausted threads that have not seen activity in 2 months; exceptions can apply to certain threads including player organizations or projects and game suggestions [...]

Further explanation or reasoning aka: "Okay, what the heck are you talking about now?"

Rule snippet as of 11th August 2018 - mostly referring to bulletin point 2 and 3

The recent posting in the "DU real life" thread referred to a not so old rule addition regarding necro posts. Granted, it makes sense. But in some situations it could ironically conflict with the rule following afterwards, specifically sentence nr. 2.

Long story short, it's this: Sometimes necro'ing old threads doesn't make sense and should not be done or forbidden or rewarded with a lock. But sometimes it should be formally and practically okay. Ironically following that particular rule could in a wider sense sometimes conflict with "creating multiple discussions on the same topic [...]" - if you cannot strictly necropost because 2 months have passed, then you have to kinda recreate threads, which clutter the forums however and is generally frowned upon anyway, when the alternative could just be posting even after 2 months since the last reply have passed. So we either have gaps exceeding 2 months between some posts or we have multiple threads on a subject if 2 months have passed between replies at one point. Or we let a topic die indeed, but some topics are on-going, and especially in an early game stage may not see regular posts all the time not exceeding 2 month gaps.

Again, it is likely trivial or obvious when it is okay and not to some but let's put it this way: With a mild edit in rewording it could, for the far future, set things formally or technically right and perhaps not confuse some people who read the forum rules and take them at face value, as you kinda or often have to anyway. A mild change or elaboration would also prevent rather nitpicky players possibly reporting others for technical rule violations that are completely tolerated or accepted things however. In short, with a very mild amount of work now in rephrasing or elaborating, you can probably save yourself a bit of more work in the long run while making it apparent when moderators (or players) have to act or not. The community and mods might be at ease (or have clarity). Win/win.

To keep it short and to get to a closing note, here's an example of what might be technically a necro posting but should be widely accepted - or is likely widely accepted, but technically breaking rules:

Posting in your organization or player project thread (after 2 months) Posting in an idea thread or similar that revolves around a specific aspect (after 2 months; instead of creating a new thread then) Off-topic threads regarding other specific games, tv shows, technology and other topics (health, preferences, etc, comedy such as DU centered 'memes', etc.) Likely other scenarios
On a last note I also understand there is a certain disclaimer that says: "IMPORTANT: Forum content is moderated at Novaquark's sole discretion, and content may be modified, removed, or otherwise restricted by Novaquark employees and/or moderators." meaning it allows exceptions or actions at the discretion already, but in this case I think it's good to mention it in the specific rule to have that rule be more clear.

I also understand you could now start various discussion or suggestion threads about all kinds of other rules and ask for elaboration. But for me that is kind of stretching the goal here. So for now this is all about necro posting.

I guess that sums it up. If I oversaw any flaws or aspects or if you want to rant about it being (insert whatever here), I guess you can do so here

    Thanks for consideration

NQ's plan is to handle all of this with their RDMS (Rights and Dutys Management System), so it will be 100% player managed - they talk about it in a devblog:
