We are not playing a game yet. My prediction is, the current setup has nothing to do with the one we will see upon launch of the game.
There will be reality check because conditions may be so much different from what most of us has in mind.

People joining orgs today goes by social media behaviour factor. Kind of sheep behaviour, meaningless value to org. Just raw numbers and the only good it can serve is to bound some people together.

If I can predict anything is that some of the active names here and now will remain that way. Influencers so to speak. But getting used to current setup is irrelevant for next 2 years.
You can hardly name any of org to be an empire today. They know and posses nothing, so they can provide and serve the same back to their people.

    They fall because of

    Wrong decisions
    Bad leadership
    Power struggle within the alliance
    Scamms/awoxing
    Making too many enemies
    Making the wrong enemies

But the most significant factor why big groups fail is the leadership itself. You need dedicated people to run an alliance, being in command, getting things done. It's a 24/7 job for no-lifers.
You need to be online to get people into fleets, mining, doing stuff. I myself was an fc and more than once per week my mobile rang and I got up to lead a fleet. If you don't have such people, then you won't be able to run a huge alliance

Of course to a specific info about EVE we have CaptainTwerkmotor, and he has already manifested himself but in case of that my experience in other games could be relevant,I played some games in big and/or top factions/alliances/whatever and when they reached their end there were a common point in almost everyone of them: the active guys leading the group lost their interest or their availability to play the game in full time and that evolved into a inability to maintain the group working together.

With that i want to say that  large groups needs active people to manage them properly and even if you delegated part of this work, people involved in this kind of management needs to be able to spend some time attending this and be very communicative. When you lost one of these people and you need to replace it its not common to find a ideal candidate, and your community starts to not feeling confortable. If you add to this some questionable decisions from the leaders and some economic stabilty problems (or wars lost) and you probably have lost almost your entire group.

But, overall , it really depends of the development of the game. If the game is able to dont let the people loss their interest in the game with a proper risk-benefit ratio and enough things to do (or time spent-benefit ratio), this kind of things happen less.

ATMLVE I just love your comment about middle ages, and it is just that.

I don't see benefit on owning a planet by little groups when they are not even be capable to defend it (by its size mainly). Because if you say the benefit is to have right over the terrain exploitation it have no sense when the group interested in said exploitation can just remove you from the planet.

I hope it will works like @Hades said.

"How the heck can you ever control an entire planet", you ask? With tons and tons of work and teamwork. Which is how it should be. One man cannot control a whole planet; 10, or 100 people cannot control a whole planet. You would need a huge group and team effort to do so, which I personally feel is exactly how it should be, and I'm sure many others would agree.

I'm not sure what you mean by the second point. You only need one territory unit to control that section of territory, so with tons of planets it gives the opportunity potentially for that lone wolf to own and control their own little section of the universe. After all, the objective of the game isn't to control land, this isn't the middle ages.

Cause that's an actual thing I am hoping for. I want miners to have mining lasers and their own "Heady duty" miner armor, but at the same time, HAVE prodtection, in the form of using said laser drill to combat raiders. Sure, it won't be meant for war, but it would be a nice way of turning miners into defenselss roles.

Yeah, if your content is good people will subscribe. As such, I'd advise working to increase your quality. I didn't hear you speak once in your "commentary" and the game was incredibly laggy. Most of the other videos are recorded from a phone. To create videos that people will want to watch, you should be recording off of at least a decent PC (or mac, if it is decent) that can run the games at medium specs with 30fps. You also need to insert yourself into the game for people to want to watch it. People do not watch let's plays to just see the gameplay, they watch for the personality of the person(s) playing. There is also nothing related to DU, so I don't think anyone here will be particularly interested.

    Hi there!

There is no strict rules regarding the posting of ship visual profiles in the Arkship Pub.

That being said, as the community grows and the organizations start to become numerous, it might be more "fair" if everyone sticks to one global thread for all announcements (Youtube channel opening, new art about a ship profile, etc) regarding the same organization, to avoid taking too much visibility from other organizations. If necessary, I can merge all the topics related to GLSQ.

If you want to make a dedicated thread about visual assets, then posting in the "Novark Art Gallery" section would be more appropriate.
Keep in mind that the "Arkship pub" section is meant to make your organization known, and inform about recent activity of the said organization.

    Best Regards,

Perhaps you could make a modular hexgon-based system (Hexagons can be easily snapped with other hexagons), with multiple types of storage (storage specialization, more-so).

Explosive Storage will obviously be covered and well-vented.
Gas Storage will also be obviously covered and potential pressure rooms (assuming gas physics will be in the game eventually)
Weaponry Storage would be extremely accessible...

You know what I'm getting at.

Ok, so I'm giving you my items which may be very valuable and pay you a lot of money to keep them safe. But if they're stolen I don't even get a compensation for it because there is no insurance.
So the whole risk is on me AND I pay for everything (including the fact that I pay you to keep them safe. which in this case didn't work).....

You need to give me a reason to use that. In safezone is pointless, in warzone it will go down and if you're able to defend it, your military expenses will be higher than the warehouse gains. So my tip is to create a mobile defensive station (a big carrier ship), possibly with cloacking tech and low power consumption (to mantain costs low and improve your gains), that you hide in space and share coordinates only to trusted customers. And you could add a transport service to that, so that you can deploy assets anywhere for your customers, if they need it.

What about having static video cameras? I made a fast check on forums and dont see anything about that; I saw some post that talks about use cameras to control gunturrets and so but I dont refer to that.
First of all I have to say that I dont know if it already exists in other games or how hard would it be to implement it so I will throw some ideas:

    - The core of this idea is to have a static device that bring you images or vision of a zone. Not recording video, just real time video.

    - There would be a pure device who would be linked to a static core and drain energy and computing power from it to work, just like a surveillance closed camera system. Only could be linked to Static cores, not to Dinamic cores. Intended to have vision of a gate or your own base when it is attacked and you are far away.

    - The other would be a portable system that works with batteries, they are stationary once installed and have a limited radio fo emision. They are intended to bring you info for example meanwhile you are focused mining an asteroid in a dangerous zone bringing you time to run away.

These devices, and mainly the portables ones, may be easily spotted and vulnerable to any kind of atack.

I see that idea could derivate in George Orwell's planets or be used to make mechs driven from a secure spot. Cause of that I will make enphasis in the static part But my idea is to keep it stick to this 2 devices.
If it is so hard to achieve I thought that a device who send you reports when someone go through his action radius would be enough.

    Ideas and/or thoughts?

Regards and have a nice day.

to be realistic I play with 2 thing about how to work if the money is stolen.
    - Obviously first, dont let them to stole the money. I am going to work with the confidence of the customers, and I will win their trust so, working on that, I will prove that the warehouse is safe enough and I will deal with any problem with profesionality.
    - In other matter I really dont think ppl will let me their money. We are not a bank, nor a loan or insurance company. We are just renting storage units. what you put into is your business; not mine. As you have read we have different defense levels, so if your item, or whatever, is valuable better take a high defense one.
extra: If the things are going well, probably we will include some kind of insurance over determinated storage units. But this is something we are not thinking at the moment.

After clarificate what I think was the most importante part, I know its probably not the most efficient structure but I see it affordable to be built once we reach the space, and I have to say that this sketches are what people would see once they came closer enough, or come to see the facilities we offer. I have determinated where the defense structures and defense points will be, but Im not going to upload these

To the destroyers: I really appreciate all your sugestions on how to blow up the complex (thanks for make me think in collision physics @Kuritho). And I really hope people try to blow up the complex. But I expect more originality if someone is going to try that because as I stated that is just the outside, and the surveillance post is just a place to have panoramic vision of the complex, and the hexagonal complex have nearly zero defense systems. We could say that almost everything that is outside the main complex is likely... expendable. As you see in the descriptions its a low security area. The hexagonal complex is not intended to work as a "wall" (what a useless wall if you can surpass it flying, or dropping inside no?).
About the hexagonal shape, it is polygonal just to simplifycate the work when we receive people from different places or different ideologies. We can in this way have them in a oposite sides of the polygon.
To make more clear a point I think you are focusing into: The hexagonal complex is like the public complex. I expect that the hex complex will be a very populated area so we really cant have control at all over every person who is into. It is going to be like a bay port located in the best zone you could imagine, where you can dock your ship and make your bussines but if you want something important you have to enter in the mayor fort and ask him.

    Have a nice night!

Most likely plant charges at hangar to allow land vehicles to swarm in, or destroy the bottom part of the surveillance post (to neutralize any turrets, and kill any potentially stationed guards) that will hopefully collide with the structure (if collision physics are added) then slowly take it over.

If turrets are stationed on the sides of the walls, drop-pod into the middle of the structure and have free reign on it.

If the structure is combined with other structures (why else would it be a hexagon?), then attack on weakest side or again, use a heavily armoured drop-pod to drop into the hex with the least turrets.
    Profit.

El_Nadie reacted to Warden in DU: Stress 'n Depression 13+
I get that different people have different problems - and different people will weigh their problems in different categories, meaning that something one considers trivial could be a big depression for someone else.

But it all does not help: If you fall down, you can either stand back up (slowly or quickly, alone or with help, with or without research on how to pick a good approach) or continue to lie down and bicker or slowly drown in the misery.

We all have to die at one point, so just by selfish reasons alone I don't think insisting on misery or taking your life (like some people do) is "clever".

Then again, I apply some sort of minimum way of life or wealth here, by western standards. Someone going through literal hell in an oppressive system or captivity may obviously think different about depression or even "going out", but I think this hardly applies to anyone here.

If you have the time to wait for online games while having some computer or similar and internet access, you at least have some material minimum standards or 'wealth'. But again, a lot is relative and dynamic or dependent on many factors. Some can't take certain things as well as others or recover from them (mentally). And many have different options. Some might be lucky, some might be unlucky.

    --------------------

This might sound simple (while doing so might not be simple at all), but all I can really say in the end is:

If you think you lose control of your life, take control back or at least try to regain a stable footing. That's the essence. If you can't do it alone in a healthy amount of time, try to do so with assistance instead. What might also help is how you measure or weigh things. Always assume there are people off way worse than you - perhaps some problems you might see aren't as bad then. A lot is mental, so tweaking said mental stance can already help.

If it helps: I've seen my fair share of death (very direct relatives etc) at a young age and also other types of misery, so I speak with a "bit" of experience there instead of just talking out of my ass from the high horse to motivate people. I kind of learned the hard way, with fate forcing things on me and my surroundings.

And guess what? Obviously, I am still alive. Didn't try to kill myself, didn't cut my wrists, got a good job despite the drama taking a toll on grades. How or why? Simply by getting back up at one point - or not going nuts. Without knowing the details of your stress I like to think it's currently not as bad as things I had to go through, so with a bit of mental adjustment and then trying to work on said sources of stress, you should eventually be fine-ish again.

El_Nadie reacted to Shynras in Planets running out of resources?
    Resources don't regenerate.

    Let's define:
-LLR (low level resources): common in large quantities
-HLR (High level resources): rare in small quantities
-P1 starting planet, Px other planets

1)HLR on P1 run out before LLR (consequence of game balance)
2)Players move to Px for more HLR, and they'll mine LLR there too (for convenience)
3)This means less people mining on P1 for LLR, so they'll take more time to run out
4)The more time passes, the more the mining rate of LLR on P1 will go down (same for other planets)

Now let's add a new variable: rarity R. With time, LLR on P1 are running out, so their R (rarity) will go from "common" to "rare". This means that it's not going to be convenient for a miner to look for rare LLR on P1 and no HLR, instead they'll go on a fresh planet where they can mine common LLR and rare HLR.

    In conclusion:
-Since all this scales with time, a planet will never run out of LLR unless a group of players tries to make that happen on purpose ( it would take a lot of time, considering planet surface and planet depth, and wouldn't even be profitable)
-A planet can run out of HLR to a certain degree (maybe there's still a few pieces of materials somewhere hidden underground, but extremely rare)
-New players will be able to mine LLR for a certain period of time from release, after that technology will be so advanced that they'll easily buy a basic ship from the market to fly on a different planet (or a different solution that devs will provide with expansions and patches after release).
-Chances are that after a certain period of time, the landscape will be partially destroyed like minecraft (or the real world). It may be uglier, but the game is player driven, so if you don't like it, just create an organization with the purpose of filling the holes (or conquer your private land).

Edit. I've seen on minecraft clans of players or servers with strict rules about digging holes without filling them, partially cutting trees, building 1x1 voxels towers, .... so an organization can easily do the same thing, and keep its territories pristine at least in appearence (the bigger the org the bigger the territory)
