I don’t think so.  The whole point of interstellar travel is that you have a link between both places, which is hard to accomplish.  You can’t just jump into the unknown, you actually have to travel and explore there first.  Rightly so imho

Hi Primate and welcome on the official Dual Universe forum.

    - The need of approval for your first post by a Moderator or a Community Manager has nothing to do with NDA.
You need to be approved once. After that, you won't need anymore validation.
Why resorting to such measure? Captcha systems gave mixed efficiency results to prevent spam accounts to spawn on the forum.
As we had Korean and Chinese, as well as English spam accounts on the forum in the past, this is the most efficient way to block them before they start polluting the forum (you would be surprised to see how many we have removed so far that never became visible to the Community

    - You might think that current Supporter Packs are underwhelming. That's totally your right.
Sure, there are a lot less attractive than our previous Kickstarter Founder Packs, but they remain worth it in terms of value: their price alone is approximatively the total value of the number of DACs (tokens for months of playtime) included in it. That means that everything else if given for free (while cosmetics items - pets, outfits, skins and decorative Elements - have also a significant value too). The value of Pre-Alpha access is not even taken into account as we consider it a "bonus perk" for those who want to support the game beyond just buying it to play. As mentioned in the disclaimer of the Patron Pack, Pre-Alpha is not meant for those who want an immediate fun experience, as the game is not yet at this stage. Pre-Alpha is meant for those who really want to help us tracking bugs and give feedback on every aspect of the game in its current state. In any case, just wanting to play the game and have fun is perfectly understandable, it's just it's not the right time for that yet, and that's why we won't encourage players to aim for a patron pack if they're not interested in this early phase.

    - Live gameplay is limited for the time being indeed.
That's pretty common in this early stage, especially for a MMORPG.
Again, if you prefer to play when the server will be up permanently, Pre-Alpha may not be the phase you want to join, and that's totally understandable.

    - Subscription model is necessary. Server architecture to host the whole community in the same universe (no instances) and Quality Support cost a lot.
As this kind of cost can be, in a certain measure, proportional to the amount of players, it would make no sense to go Free-to-Play and even Buy-to-Play could be a risky move.
Hence, Subscription model is the most logical choice.

    Best Regards,
    Nyzaltar.

All good @Hades it is all content that has officially been launch by NQ. By making videos I am so familiar with the NDA I could read it to you in my sleep xD

It did have some footage from older videos, so yeah very easy to forget

May have jumped the gun, apologies.  That’s all content from dev diaries and such yeah?

I don’t recognize some of it, so if there is player content on there... it would be breaching the NDA.  It’s entirely possible I just forgot/missed a video or two or ten

    I want to upgrade.
I don't want to have to make a new account to do so and have seperate rewards on seperate accounts.
I don't need a discount (though it would be nice).

So some kind of upgrade path or a way of merging accounts would be fantastic.

So we will be able to make blueprints, which can be sold by other players.  You may not have to build at all, however, it could become costly.  Similarly, if you have a friend who is good at building... they might throw some blueprints your way

Basically blueprints allow you to build something with just the resources.  Someone might have to confirm that this information is still correct... I'm pretty sure we are going to be able to sell blueprints, but I'm not 100% that's still the plan.

I’d say it’s safe to assume there will be a tutorial.  I imagine down the line building will be relatively complex, meaning NQ will want to implement a tutorial so people aren’t completely trashing  Alioth unintentionally

Hades got a reaction from Vyz Ejstu in What exactly is the point of the MSAs
This is precisely why there are NO resources on MSA territory.  Yes an org can store their stuff safely in MSAs, just as a solo/small group can.  However, the question is... how quickly can you get those assets to a hotspot?  If an org leaves all of their military power inside of a safezone, it will be hard for them to respond to threats on their resources outside of the MSA.

    @OP
To answer one of your questions, you can claim a MSA with a territory control unit which is craftable in game.  AFAIK

Hades reacted to dualism in How hard (or easy) will it be to earn DAC?
I've been having this problem in real life a bit. If you separate too much, then you begin to lose a feeling for connections and consequences - and I think it's important for conversations to mention or link to other threads, which happened. The OP did also ask about DAC overall, but in a way that is more about facts than opinions..

Anyway, an important factor in how easy to earn is obviously about supply/demand affecting the relative price. Hoarding will also be part of this.
Making DACs cheaper will be that they are apparently the only way (afaik) of injecting real cash into the game, so paying to try and get ahead fast will all be via DAC supply side. Edit: this is perhaps the most important step by NQ as an answer to your question.

Making DACs more expensive may be attempts to buy up and hoard DACs for a time when cash injection slows down and supporter DACs per player are running out.

Harder to get means more effort in-game to get the quanta to buy a DAC. However, the prices of other things will be relative as well and that unit/currency will be quanta. People will focus on their motivations - but most will agree that doing well is part of having fun, so trying to amass quanta actively and through investments paying off is what will actually drive a lot of the focus in my opinion. DACs are only a subset of this.
I suppose the critical element is how many players will be aiming to play for free and how acceptable this is for the players trying to get ahead faster by paying/investing real cash. If NQ make a great universe then I think there will be no problem for them to get incomes based on the number of active players (=monthly subscriptions).

That link or quote is hidden. Is it from a Restricted forum area?

    Nope.
Been talking to Support; the only way you can buy a supporter pack when you already own any founder pack is to make a seperate second account.
The two accounts would be totally seperate, with each getting it's own rewards.
Upgrades and merging accounts are not possible.

I'm starting to get a little frustrated with it all, tbh. I wanted Ruby, but they closed upgrades before I could save the cash. Now I want Patron, but I lose what I currently have and have to make a new forum account if I buy Patron now.

Hades reacted to Megaddd in Image Capture, Video Record Software Suggestions?
If you have a newer Nvidia GPU, I would suggest you use Shadowplay, so you can press a button to save the past 5-20 minutes of action at any time, with pretty decent video quality for the most part (if you set the maximum bit-rate allowed in the settings).

However if you don't have access to Shadowplay, I suggest recording with OBS. You can configure it to function similar to shadowplay, easy to figure out with google for the most part.

Once you have your recorded footage you will want to use 'Handbrake' to encode it into a smaller file-size without noticeable loss in video quality. You need to do this if you are recording with Shadowplay as the files are, while compressed with your onboard H264 chip, still massive. However if you're using OBS, you can configure the encoder to already compress the footage to a reasonable size for editing/uploading.

If you want crystal-clear 1080p footage, use OBS. If you want general gameplay video that's good enough for YouTube and doesn't have a very noticeable impact on your system performance and game-play experience, use ShadowPlay.

Hades reacted to Felonu in Founders Wanting New Backer Items
@NQ-NyzaltarI am a gold founder, but would like to upgrade to get some of the items from the new backer pack that we weren't aware would be in the game during the kickstarter.  I clicked on the "Buy this pack" button for the patron pack, and it won't let me check out.  There is a message "No need to upgrade, we have your back! We plan to give you all the new items for free under certain conditions, please refer to the dedicated F.A.Q for more info. ".  Of course "all the new items" isn't completely accurate, as there are new items available we won't get. I would be willing to spend more money to increase my pledge in order to get some of the higher level outfits extra STUs, etc.  Will there be any way for us to do so in the future?

NQ clearly outlined that alpha would not start out 24/7.  I didn’t even question that the servers weren’t up 24/7 when pre-alpha launched.  Once again, this was discussed many times before alpha due to the French labor laws.

If your goal is to simply play the game.  Do NOT buy into the pre-alpha access for sure.  Heck, if I were you... I would wait until the servers come up online 24/7 before even putting a cent down.  Since that seems to be your desire.  These packs are solely for people who believe in the vision of the game.  The patron pack is for those who wish to help NQ stress their servers so we can break stuff, and NQ can fix it.  Thus allowing us to get closer to the 24/7 servers.

There’s nothing wrong with taking a step back, and seeing how things shake out.  And if the game is in a state you can get behind... then you should hop on

It’s also important to note that you get quite a bit with these packs.  12 DACs is equivalent to 12x15 euros?  So you’re not just buying early access.  You literally get the equivalent in game time.

    Addressed to all:
I cannot be more abundantly clear than the following:  If you don’t wholeheartedly believe in a project... do NOT back it.  It’s best for both parties.  You don’t feel ripped off if things don’t go as planned, and the development team does not have to deal with unsatisfied backers.

So many crowdfunded projects become a cluster fumble because backers expect more than is promised.  NQs promise is to do their damnedest to make the best space exploration/civilization/building/conflict MMO in existence.  Could the project completely fall apart for some reason?  Sure.  But when you look at the track record of NQ and the amount of heart and soul they’ve put into the community and the game itself... I don’t think that’s likely at this point

In the end, I hope you stick around (whether or not you buy a package or not).  The community of DU is truly unprecedented in many areas.  And I’d say this is mainly because of the team behind it, they are responsible for cultivating this community.

Hades reacted to Supermega in What exactly is the point of the MSAs
    @Semproser

I think your missing the big picture.

In this game things won't be as easy as you think. Mining will be hard and time consuming, to locate good materials, then harvesting those materials. During that time players will be vulnerable to attack. So, players will have to build a base or defense at the mining site to protect it while they gather resources. An space travel isn't super fast like in most space games. Travel between planets will be a long voyage, which makes transporting goods to secure territory even more risky.
Then you still have crafting to refine those raw materials into something usable. An that doesn't include building and manufacturing. An the whole time a player or org is doing that they will be vulnerable to getting attacked.

The Moons have Zero valuable resources, and Alioth only has low value resources. So players will have to venture out if they want to get materials to build anything important in the game. And that's when they are vulnerable to attack.
Also, if you really take the time to think about it, the savezones in the game are a tiny compared to the rest of the game. only a few thousand kilometers around the Arkship, and one moon. The rest of Alioth, and 5 other planets is open to combat. Players have no choice but to venture out to gather resources.

If you just want to do running and gunning style pew pew, then this games is probably not for you, I'd recommend the game "Angels fall First". That's a pvp focused space game that has that type of gameplay. This game is focused on on rebuilding civilization, and you can't do that without stability. If this was just free for all PVP, then there wouldn't be any savezones.

Think about it this way, Players and Orgs will be constantly thinking up clever ways to defend and protect themselves, so they can build their civilization. So if you want to attack people, then you need to be equally as clever, an think up good strategies.

Also, their is another angle you should consider, and that's espionage and the meta game. Its no secret around here that some Organizations already have spy's everywhere, and are planning to destroy other Organizations from the inside. Those spies can simply steal any resources. If anything, the sanctuaries and savezones are just a false since of security.
