    Hi ZipSnipe and Kirtis,
welcome on the official Dual Universe forum!

    - It's true the introduction post was a bit brutal. It's understandable as many developers released games promised a lot and didn't met the expectations of the players, and now every game projects having any significant ambition is welcome with caution, suspicion and/or disbelief. And that's okay. We don't ask to be believed just with words. We force no one to support us before having seen the game. We understand your decision. We have no problem with that.

    - It's also true vylqun's answer was a bit brutal as well. It's understandable as we had many aggressive introduction in the past from people who think to know what Dual Universe is about and bash it, before even inform themselves on the game. So those who took the time to inform themselves have sometimes to a hard time to answer kindly to this kind of introduction post.

    - Regarding the role of the veteran community members (and especially the members of the ATV group):
True, we are happy to get feedback from the active members, but we are also happy if they welcome the new members and help them to integrate the community: "welcoming new comers and reply to their questions, even obvious ones without being rude" is one of the factor on which the ATV members can be selected as mentioned there.

Now to answer the main question of the topic:

Games like Space Engineers or Empyrion were originally designed to be multiplayer for small groups of players, hosted on private/personal servers. Going this way has its pros and cons. Among the pros, there are some that made the popularity of these games like the physics applied to voxels where you can ram into a spaceship with another spaceship and breaking it in two parts moving independently. It's this kind of "waow" effect who made Space Engineers well known for example. The problem here is this kind of things is hardly compatible with massively multiplayer technology (if you want to avoid big lag problems), at least with the current level of technology across the world and the average internet bandwith of a player.

In Dual Universe, this is the kind of topic that we decided to "sacrifice": where Space Engineers put physics applied on voxels at the top priority (and it makes sense if you aim for a multiplayer game with a few friends), we put the priority on the massively multiplayer environment, while physics come second. This is essential for a single-shard universe (where the whole community is gathered on one server cluster). If we can implement physics in some aspects without stressing too much the server where we are in a situation with hundreds or event thousands of players gathering at the same place, then we will probably implement it. However, physics applied to voxels, water physics and other type of realistic features that are "unfriendly" with massively multiplayer environment will most probably never implemented unless there is a technology breakthrough to handle that properly in a MMORPG.

Large scale battles of Planetside 2 are also a great achievement, but they can't push much further as FPS real time mechanics can become a factor that limits the massively multiplayer environment. That's why we opted for a "lock and fire" mechanics in PvP combat similar to EvE Online, instead of FPS Mechanics a la Planetside 2. "lock and fire" mechanics enable us to refresh the position of players very far away less frequently without making it a gameplay issue = less data to transmit to all clients = more massively multiplayer friendly.

    In the nutshell:
    - We are favoring massively multiplayer environment (trying to avoid as much lag as possible) over physics.
    - We are favoring massively mutliplayer environment by chosing massively multiplayer PvP mechanics optimized for it ("Lock & Fire").

So we are not trying to make a perfect game impossible to make.
We had to take tough design decisions to make the best game possible while keeping in mind the constraints to make it doable.

That doesn't mean either we promise there will never be any lag: so many factors come into play that there might be situations where you will have lag, depending on your computer configuration, your internet bandwith, the ping you have, etc... But we will do our best to minimize the lag whenever it's possible. That's one of our priorities.

    Best Regards,
    Nyzaltar.

    Hi there,

    It's true that:
    - Massive Constructs "battlestar cruiser" size or "death star" will require incredible amount of resources and may not (or hardly) be possible to build alone.
    - We don't plan to let players import design from 3D tools like 3DS Max, Blender or Zbrush.

    However:
    - It's also true that trial & errors will have a massive cost in resources if designing/prototyping a very large of spaceship must be done in the "real" in-game universe.
    - It's also true that it would force all large ship designers to get huge amount of resources just for designing, not even for building. The ideal situation would be that the designer role shouldn't be tied to gather huge amounts of resources (this should be left to the production role).

    In conclusion:
Yes, having a creative mode inside the game, just for designing purpose (without giving any free resources in the "real" in-game universe) is something we are considering.
However, this is a huge feature to develop, and while we would like to add it to the game, there is a high chance it won't be implemented before the official game release. If it's implemented at some point, it will be probably after, in an expansion.

    Best Regards,
    Nyzaltar.

    Hi all,
sorry for the lack of updates on these charts, I have been extremely busy in the real world (that exists, I always forget) with studying, finding work, etc, etc.
I had come to a conclusion that these charts weren't great enough and stopped whilst I was ahead. Mainly due to the fact that I was unable to stay on top of input, reading and looking through it all. It got fairly hectic for a time and I had to take a forced break.

Though, with the possibility of Alpha coming along soon, I am thinking about starting up again, anew. As this gives me the chance to better watch the alpha through release stages of growth.
I suspect that the data will be greatly affected by the ability to play the game, seeing as real dynamics within Organizations will be used, seen, heard or abused.

So, keep watching this space, the charts will be coming back soon.

Soarnir reacted to yamamushi in Integrate LuaSocket Into The LUA Sandbox
JC posted this tweet this evening,

Based on the responses in that thread, that puts a roadblock in the way of being able to use LuaSocket to push HTTP requests up to servers.

I should explain what that means...

If we had the ability to post data over HTTP to our own application servers, we'd able to do things like create phone apps that track the status of your ships, dashboards for having a high level overview of a fleet of ships, sites that track statistics about ships and other constructs, tools that notify you automatically if something happens through your phone, market tracking applications, etc.

(Note that this would not allow you to play the game remotely, this is entirely about receiving data and rendering it appropriately)

My "idea" is to integrate LuaSocket into the LUA sandbox for outbound requests only so that we can post data to our own applications for external use. That way we don't have to get explicit access to load our own modules. It would give us the opportunity to build the kind of tools mentioned above and would allow for NQ to specifically limit what can and can't be posted upstream.

I think it would be a nice middle ground and a convenient way of giving us an "API" to use without NQ having to explicitly create one themselves (and arguably less work than creating a maintaining a whole API for this purpose).

And since I don't want to keep bothering JC on twitter at 7 in the morning..... to address the issue about DDoS's, I think it should enforce a FQDN policy that only allows for remote hosts to be specified by domain name instead of IP addresses (thus not having stale IP's sticking around that could be flooded later on), and at that point it would be up to the application authors to be able to handle the traffic (which is a whole other conversation that I'd be happy to explain how to address). Or by the time there are millions of players, they might an API at that point we'd just migrate to using instead

But I do understand the problem of stale scripts sitting out there that are abandoned by their authors/maintainers and then years down the line causing headaches for people.

There's also the issue of someone maliciously targeting a site, getting the script on tens of thousands of ships, and then sitting back while that site gets flooded with traffic.

Perhaps someone has an idea about it that doesn't involve just turning off the feature later on down the road when they give us a real API?

The only "solution" that is coming to mind involves having some type of standard handshake for receiving the data, and if it fails, then not enabling the feature. That way if a site can't actually process the data, it doesn't receive any more requests from said client until the client is restarted. If it's getting too much traffic, the handshake would time out and fail quietly, otherwise, it would have the acknowledgment that the application can actually handle the data and it would proceed to send. Periodically it could check that the application is still there by initiating another handshake. It could even be something set in user options under "Enable Data Publishing Through Lua", and default to "no" or "off", thus minimizing the impact even further.

The problem with that idea is that it now starts to put even work on NQ's side for what may amount to otherwise a trivial feature that only a handful of us end up using. I mean, I know there's plenty of people here that could hack together a handshake method like that in a few hours, but putting that into the game is a whole other thing altogether, on top of the already loaded roadmap.

Okay this post turned into me thinking out loud, sorry >_<

    Hi everyone,

Just a short message here to emphasis/remind the fact that using fake accounts on a big scale to inflate artificially the size (hence the visibility) of an Organization, especially when the Organization founder(s) is/are aware of this and let it go (or is a part of the problem), this can lead to the Organization deletion. This won't prevent the involved people to recreate their organization, but if this abuse (use of fake accounts) is done by the same person(s) again, the sanction will escalate.

Soarnir reacted to NQ-Nyzaltar in Once Again.... The Reddit Community
    Hi everyone,

Please remain polite on the forum toward everyone, even if you are in conflict with some participant(s) in this thread.
As this topic starts to be recurrent, it seems there is a need to clarify publicly our stance regarding subReddit channels.

    1) Please do not bash Reddit and Subreddit communities.

Yes, there are drama, conflicts, rants and many other negative things that can be found on some subreddit channels, like on any platform. It’s the Internet. However there are also a lot of positive discussions and nice people on many channels. So please refrain to condemn redditors as the whole, without exception. Also, as mentioned before, Reddit is an efficient way of giving more visibility to Dual Universe. Not all Reddit readers are bad people (far from it) and it would be nice if we can show them that Dual Universe exists and might be a game they were waiting for.

    2) Reddit insists to avoid having company staff in charge of the subreddit(s) talking about game(s) of the said company and we understand that.

While it might seem as a poor excuse to get a non-qualified person in charge, but it's not: even if it's not the case of the majority, there are some companies that don't behave professionally when it comes to communication by silencing dissenting without exception. That’s sad to say but even it’s a minority of devs, some don’t act ethically when they get moderation rights. We are a few at Novaquark to have already witnessed that. Is the current subreddit management mode perfect? Probably not, as other abuses can be made, but we have to deal with it. For the same reason, we also understand that Novaquark has no right to put in charge any community member on a specific subreddit. The request must come from the community member alone.

    3) In case of subreddit Moderator abuses.

The Reddit policy invites anyone targeted by an abusive moderation on a subreddit channel to contact directly the official Reddit staff (contact@reddit.com). You can tell us for informative purpose if you have been the target of an abusive ban by a subreddit moderator, but we won’t be able to help on that matter. To be more precise, here is an official (and understandable) stance of Reddit Staff:

    4) The current situation between both subreddits talking about Dual Universe.

    - On one side we have the oldest subreddit and the biggest number of followers, but with an erratic activity (nearly no activity during one year after its creation, then highly variable activity afterward) and not tightly connected to the existing Dual Universe Community.
    - On the other side, we have a younger subreddit, created due to the inactivity of the first one, with less followers, but with a stronger activity and well connected with Dual Universe Community as it is managed by active members of the existing Dual Universe Community.

Both parties have reasons to claim their legitimacy.

    5) Which factor(s) we value as the most important to work with a subreddit channel.

Reddit seems to give more importance/legitimacy to the following factors:
    - The seniority of a subreddit channel
    - The number of people who follow

While we respect their choice, we have however a different approach regarding the factors we value the most for a possible partnership, especially:
    - The most regular / highest activity of a subreddit channel
    - Regular members of the subreddit are already informed on all basic questions, being able to answer to newcomer questions without difficulties.

Why we chose these factors over those chosen by Reddit:
    - We favor organic growth: in our opinion, a young but active subreddit is going to attract more naturally and efficiently new followers than an old but less active subreddit.
    - Interesting discussions/debates can emerge on Reddit only if a large part of the readers are already well informed about the basic knowledge on the game.

In the case where the two subreddit channels talking about Dual Universe don’t merge peacefully, we see two scenarios:

a ) No subreddit merge but at least a gesture of goodwill from both sides to gather the whole group of Dual Universe fans on Reddit.
Considering the other subreddit channel as a “subreddit” sibling and inserting a link pointing towards it (which would mean that there is a link on /r/dualuniverse pointing to /r/dualthegame and another link on /r/dualthegame to /r/dualuniverse. Maybe even share the activities between both subreddits (like all basic questions would be posted on /r/dualuniverse and all the more complex discussions on /r/dualthegame. That’s just a suggestion based on how both subreddits have evolved until now and absolutely not an order). If such agreement is reached, there will be no problem to partner with both subreddits. However, it will be up to subreddit moderators to submit to Novaquark possible events they would like to do on their subreddit (not the other way around). Then we will discuss how much time we can allocate to such events.

b ) No subreddit merge and no agreement reached.
In that case, we will partner only with the subreddit that has the highest activity and connectivity with the community, for the reasons stated above.

As the moderator of /r/dualuniverse seems to be someone else than AidenAiden now, the new moderator will be contacted to inform him about our stance toward subreddit channels and we'll see what comes from the discussion.

    Best Regards,
    Nyzaltar.

Soarnir reacted to NQ-Nyzaltar in Organization management & Exceptional NQ Interventions
    Hi everyone.

Until now, we couldn’t manually manage (remove/promote) Legates in an organization easily on the administration side.
Since Yesterday, we are able to use a feature simplifying considerably the process.

As we already mentioned many times in the past, we (Novaquark) don’t want to involve ourselves in the management of organizations created by players. However, we are also aware that the current (and temporary) state of the management system contains obvious flaws. You know it. We know it. As this is still “work in progress”, we hoped that organizations creators will be reasonable enough to avoid abusing the well-known flaws of the system and would wait that all the rules are implemented before trying to sabotage other organizations.

So we are going to state the obvious here:
It’s ok to “play a bad guy” and use dirty tricks once all the rules are implemented. However, it’s absolutely not ok to start exploiting the flaws of a work in progress system: this is not “playing a bad guy”, this is just toxic behavior and trying to gain an advantage while not playing by the rules.

That’s why - despite our will of non-involvement - we will make exceptions until the full implementation of the RDMS (Rights & Duties Management System) for the Organizations.

Why did we decide to intervene?
    Two reasons:
    1) In the current state, a Legate has much more power than in the final system, due to the minimalistic mechanisms temporarily in place. If in the current system, any Legate has the right to promote a member to Legate status by himself alone, in the final system the default rights will be completely different: promoting a legate will be done only with a vote by majority rule, or the right to promote someone will be given to specific persons and not every Legate.
    2) In the current state, a Legate cannot be demoted by any mean (even by the creator of an organization). In the final system, default configurations will allow to demote a Legate with a vote by majority rule. A Legate could also be demoted by specific persons who have been given the right (most probably by the Organization founder) to do so.

How is this going to work?
Each organization is going to have one "wild card": if there is a problem with the Legates in an Organization, you can contact the support team at support@novaquark. However, keep in mind we (Novaquark) reserve the right to intervene (or not) on a case by case basis.

Example of a case where we will intervene:
Some Legate using the flaw of the current temporary system to vandalize (or generate troubles in) an organization.

Example of a case where we won’t intervene:
Two organizations have merged in one, and now both creators of previous organizations want to mutually exclude each other from the organization. In this kind of case, we won’t remove anyone. We won’t favorize one creator above another. However, we will do our best to help finding a satisfying solution for both parties.

    As a global reminder:
If someone finds a loophole in the rules in place (that may happen), and this loophole is used to generate trouble and spread a toxic behavior, we won’t stay idle watching the situation deteriorating.

    Best Regards,
    Nyzaltar.

    Pre-Alpha stage:
Organizations created here are a provisional step towards building your organizations in-game.
As the game is in development the features and systems in place will evolve and are subject to change over time. Once the game launches the organizations, the members and the information held here will be synchronised with the game world. The organization structure will be composed of Members and Legates with different roles and/or responsibilities. For more information about Dual Universe Organizations and what they will become in the future, check out the Devblog!

A “Legate” status is currently NOT reversible (it is planned to be reversible at some point though), so choose your legates wisely! What you do here matters, so be careful what you promise!

A thousand years before the SKiD our ancestors sailed the seas of Old Earth preying on the shipping lanes of the British Empire and any other merchants who were unlucky enough to cross paths with them. From Edward Teach, better known as Blackbeard; to "Calico Jack" Rackham and Anne Bonny; to Admiral Sir Henry Morgan. These names struck fear into the hardest of hearts.

Pirates are not just thieves and murderers, though. We are farmers and miners and engineers and businessmen. Being a pirate in Dual Universe will be far more challenging than this profession is in any other game. Becoming a pirate will be a complete life choice, it will take cooperation and communication. Most of all, the Pirate lifestyle will take dedication.

Do you have what it takes to dedicate yourself to the life of a Pirate? We will, among other activities, provide those fringe services the law-abiding folk don’t want to dirty their hands with, but do have need of- smuggling, spying, espionage, sabotage, information brokering, the opportunities are endless and limited only by what our clients are willing to ask us to do. This may include raids against settlements or bases or space stations or convoys for specific items or because our client may want that piece of land (or sector of space). We may be needed to quietly extract an asset, whether a person or a piece of gear or a ship that needs to be transported to our client’s research lab or military installation, or some neutral sector of space, maybe even to a third party station or city. Maybe someone needs revenge, but can’t carry it out themselves. We can help with that too!

While we are a part of the Cinderfall Syndicate, we also have some tentative agreements in place with some other organizations. As with anything, we need the game to be up and running in order to finalize these agreements. These agreements are in place for equipment, information, and an open line of communication for engaging our services.

What are we looking for? The whole shebang!

The first thing you’ll want to do is read over our Articles of Agreement, which are based on our ancient Pirate ancestor’s own Articles. All right, as this topic is turning into a flame war, and there is nothing constructive left to say, it's going to be locked as well.

    @Bleep_Bloop:

Having some skepticism about the game is understandable and even healthy.
We took the time to answer to your questions several times.

However since you started to participate on the forum, you made posts containing only:
    - Negativity about the game
    - Negativity about the people who endorsed the game
    - Negativity about the game monetization model
    - Assumptions that you know how business works in video games (while your oversimplified point of view clearly shows the contrary).
    - Assumptions that you know what will be the developer decisions on critical matters (and always imagining the worst case scenario).
    - Disregard towards opinions different from yours.
    - Not understanding (or feigning to not understand) why people start to feel irritated by your attitude and bringing the "fanboy" or "white knight" excuse to avoid questionning your own attitude.

There is nothing constructive in your attitude and everything inciting to conflicts.
Again, while being a bit cautious and skeptical can be healthy, your attitude is way beyond that stage and has nothing healthy in it.
So a friendly advice: whether you make an effort of being radically less provocative and a lot more constructive, or we will start removing your posts without a warning.

Let's stay in the frame of the forum etiquette, shall we? Literally insulting your counterpart in a discussion will not make your statements any more credible, don't you think? Because when evading to alternative methods, it's more likely for people to see you as the mentally challenged.

I can absolutely see where your arguments are coming from. I was, at first, very disappointed of the seemingly poor marketing choices Novaquark had made. just what you said before was the same I had in mind as well. Almost all the subscription based games turn f2p at some point, and in general, I am in favor of b2p / f2p as well, since it definitely IS the better choice for 95% of games.

Sadly for you, nobody was willing to explain the foundation this communitie's opinion is based on, because we discussed it countless times before with no result, as Yamamushi said.

However, with time I, too, realized that there are exceptions. The games that are subscription based are different from the usual mainstream trend of games. Wonderful examples are, as you said, World of Warcraft, Final Fantasy 11 / 14 and Eve Online. All those games can survive because they provide a special service that the usual MMO-genre fails to deliver. They all deliver content on an exceptional scale, regular updates influenced by its playerbase's wishes and features that you can't find in a similar collection in different games. That's why these games' playerbase is loyal enough to return again and again and is willing to pay the subscription.
Now if we look at Twerk's statements concerning the marketing philosophy of many eastern publishers, we can see why f2p works for these games, but wouldn't work for subscription based games.

The policy of these publishers is to create cheap games, design them in a way that is easy to attract large masses of people by adding features that are well known in the genre and become genre standards (which for example tab-targeting was for many years), harvest the most out of it by creating a small, but efficiently paying group of fans and then leave the game as far as possible to itself while practivally generating money with few effort.
That's why f2p works these days, because people look for that.
What you misunderstand is that we have the problem that a f2p system is not the guarantee for attracting a large playerbase, but they attraction of a large playerbase through a game's features. And let's be realistic, we all here see that DU has tons of potential, but it's not the right game to attract a playerbase of millions in a short time. For that, DU is too unexplored, too new, too risky so to say. It does not deliver all the standard features an international community is looking for in an MMO, for example the absence of quests and NPCs.

You see, Bleep_Bloop, you have it mixed up. Being able to attract a larger playerbase does not result from f2p, it's the other way around. F2p results from being able to attract a large playerbase, a larger one than you would see in a subscription game. Because why pay for one game if you can have many of the same features in another one for free? That's completely in your logic, as you said.
But DU doesn't belong in that category. It relies on a smaller, but more loyal fanbase, similar to Wolrd of Warcraft. Imagine the millions of people that would rush in and start playing if WoW would go f2p tomorrow. But also imagine the small portion that would actually want to pay for a cash shop. And imagine all the people leaving WoW or simply not paying any longer then.

But in order to attract that fundamental playerbase, you need to make some compromises. Imagine if the game would actually be on cost of a AAA game. As Novaquark is a completely new studio, it can not guarantee a successful future of the game, so which larger mass of people would actually be willing to throw $60-ish at them when they can't promise anything? No, instead they decided to give you a free trial period. They decided you don't have to buy the game itself. They even chose to allow to sell the playtime for ingame money.

So you have to see the advantages for you as the player from a subscription based game as well.
The devs are forced to continually improve and expand their game, or they will loose customers. They are also forced to deliver higher quality content than the regular publishers. And they are forced to act after the players' wishes. So you will get a game that is far more consistent than the average f2p, as developers can't just leave it to generate money. Additionaly, you can choose when to p(l)ay. You don't have to pay $156 at a fixed interval for as long as the game exists. Before you pay a regular b2p price for a game, you can play it for 3-4 months at minimum, presumably more since DACs can be bought with ingame money. And that's as long as many players will play it. In the end, the $/hr ratio in subscription based games is not rarely better than in b2p games. And that's also why subscriptions work.

I also see that you've already realized that this game can't afford to lose customers, which contradicts a bit with your last post, but only because you didn't yet reach the final conclusion. Losing customers does not equal losing money in our times. things are a bit more complex, it's 2017 after all.

From that statement, you also seem to still be ill informed, which is why I can relate to you as I was in the same position for a longer time as well, as I already said. There is nothing "premium" in this game NQ could sell you. There are no permanent assets in this game due to its own nature.

What you ultimately failed to realize because of that, and that's the most important point of all, is that this game is so fundamentally structured to rely on a loyal fanbase that is willing to pay the subsciption and even appreciates it as you can see from the previous posts, that it doesn't even have the choice to go f2p/b2p without completely becoming another standard MMO in the long list of quick cashgrabs.

If you read until here, I respect you for your effort. Please don't think ill of the community, we are just all very tired of this ongoing discussion. There are so many reasons why there is just no other way for this game to become what it aims to be, that somewhere along the way trying to fit it into words we lost the motivation because people just turn around and go as soon as they notice they don't meet like-minded people here or it's not going their way.
But here's your chance for you to be better than that. I have given you a guideline for you to think about, and with time you might also learn to trust Novaquark with their choices, just like I did when I was in your position.

Soarnir reacted to NQ-Nyzaltar in WAIT...MONTHLY GAME TIME?
Hi Lexator and welcome on our forum.

    To answer your concerns:

    - Yes, Dual Universe will have a monthly subscription. We are aware that it's not a model appealing to all people and we don't try to everyone, because it's impossible. Also, due to the specificity of the game (costs higher in terms of server infrastructure), the team has come to the conclusion that the subscription model will be the only one viable on the long term. However, we have managed a way to play without paying a subscription. For more information, read below.

    - The game won't cost anything, and expansions will be free as well. You will only have the monthly subscription to pay. You will even have free trial period.

    - The DAC enable people who can (and are willing) to pay a Monthly subscription to be able to help paying the subscription for those who can't. DAC will be sellable in-game for in-game money (Quanta). So if you gather enough Quanta during your free trial period, you will be able to use the in-game money to buy a DAC from another player without spending real life money. Everybody wins: you don't have to pay a monthly subscription and the player who sold you a DAC - generally people who have more income and less available play time - will be able to gather enough Quanta for the activities they are focusing on, despite their limited available play time.

In any case, we are not currently planning to drop the monthly subcription model.
This has already been discussed over and over on the forum, many people have backed this project knowing this will be the monetization model, so a new topic asking about that won't change anything. We're planning on the long term, and with another model, the team is convinced it wouldn't be possible to make a durable game.

    Best Regards,
    Nyzaltar.

Soarnir reacted to NQ-Nyzaltar in My Community Has Withdrawn Our Pledges
    Hi everyone,

As the topic is derivating seriously in the last pages, it's going to be closed.
To all those who are wondering if the current level of funding already include the pledge withdrawal, the answer is yes: The pledge amount is updated in real time. If someone unpledge, it's immediately reflected to the amount pledged on the Kickstarter page.

    @ChipPatton:

To sum up your point of view:
    1) Our communication is canned because we didn't reply directly to your community's experience.
    2) You didn't try to discuss with us because the previous reply was canned in your opinion.
    3) You said the PLEX is inefficient against goldfarming.
    4) You assume that I'm convinced DAC is the perfect too and that, apparently, only my opinion counts in the Novaquark Team.
    5) You consider that globally we are non-caring.

So to address this (very) subjective declaration:

    1) We read your community experience and we understand that your experience with PLEX hasn't been fun. However, just looking by the prism of one experience, and refusing to look at the bigger picture is something we can't do as game developers: The problem you encountered is something that you would have encountered sooner or later even without the PLEX existence. Why? If unfair players want to harass a specific group and they have money for it, yes, the official staff can close as many accounts as possible if those use gold farming sites to get a lot of in-game money, but the unfair players will come back again and again, as money is not a problem for them. This is a neverending story. As an EVE veteran player, you probably won't refute the fact that you can harass anyone with fresh new toons, only a few hours old, in Tech1 ships in EVE Online. Again, even without the PLEX/DAC system, the problem remains as a whole, only less visible. So what you consider as a "canned reply" is just a different opinion from yours.

    2) Avoiding to start a discussion just because we have a different opinion from yours, and that there are chances it wouldn't go your way... It has indeed no chance to convince the Novaquark Team. Self fulfilling Prophecy here. But you have no right to complain if you didn't even try.

    3) Three big developers/publishers seem to disagree: CCP, Blizzard and NCSoft (Carabine studios).
Beside that, as gamers, we didn't experience the consistent huge amount of PLEX/gold selling you're mentionning in EVE (Yes, we have EVE players in the team). Do you have something to back your declaration about PLEX system being inefficient beside your own words? If it's the case, we are interested in this data.

    4) The Community Manager status seems to have been misunderstood here: having a personal opinion and making the communication (both ways) between players and the Novaquark team are two different things. Whether or not I'm convinced of something is irrelevant in this case: If players have concerns about one aspect, I transmit the message to the team. If the team has an official stance on a topic, I transmit it to the players (the reason why you received twice globally the same answer). Now, while the team won't change a feature as important as the DAC system on a whim, if some solid concerns followed by facts are given in a well-argued discussion, everything is possible (except coming on what has been already promised to other players such as Kickstarter DACs). However, loud voices and threats of unpledging without solid reasons will not affect game design decisions.

    5) Just because we have a different opinion doesn't mean we are non-caring. We care about every opinion. However, we are also realistic about the fact that we cannot satisfy everyone. Nobody can.

If you have something else to discuss with us that are not:
    - Your (unfortunate) experience on EvE Online.
    - Assumptions of the real intents of the Novaquark Team (like implying the DAC system has been chosen by greediness, when the game is free, the expansions will be free and there will be a free trial period when starting the game... not really a good way to start a reasonable discussion with a developer).

Then by all means, send me a private message on this forum and I will transmit the message to the team for discussion.

    Best regards,
    Nyzaltar.
