Without downsizing current safezones I am not interested in comming back to the game.
This game was supposed to have varied pvp/territory warefare gameplay but it has just become another PVE coop ship builder.

This was the most disappointing stream I've seen for a major announcement you literally didn't release any new feature rich new additions.

I expected a major announcement to be new systems coming for launch like territory warfare which was due last year or energy systems.

Do you folks realise adding either of those two features later on is not ideal especially energy ?.

I totally understand the planets and I also equally hoped a chance to move them all closer to avoid the snooze fest of flying slowboating.

Anyway it's disheartening indeed after all these years playing.  Your not convincing people to give it a go.

Why dont we just remove the planets forever? We don't need all of them, they spread the player base out too much, and they have almost zero purpose right now. Then just shrink the safe zone back to the alioth market region and smoon/haven.

Disappointing that your keeping the SZ's post wipe.  It was an opportunity to start afresh.  Take a leaf out of Star Citizen.  Wheres the conflict mechanics?

I'd be surprised if it isn't a Robb Zombie Grind-Fest.

Having watched NQ go through proper use of Alpha and Beta development cycles (at least while JC was here) I suspect that most people who have only seen the state of the game up to 0.23 will not recognize the game at release.  For some that will be a good thing, for the rest... well, they left for reason(s) that may or may not be even bigger factors in gameplay.

The wipe has no bearing on me leaving or staying. I left a long time ago, and by the looks of how the game is going won't be returning.  But I keep an eye on it out of curiosity to see how far they can stray from what was pitched during alpha. It's damn near a bait and switch at this point.  Almost as bad as telling people you are making a FPS ww2 game,  but then when it's time to deliver you give people a go-kart racing game.....almost.

Ya, I mean I accepted the risk backing in alpha.  But it really has been a bait and switch. And they dont even have the gall to look us in the eye and say "ya our server tech didnt perform how we wanted and this is what its gotta be" but continue on this bullshit path.  WE backed a game that was suppose to be heavily in PVP and PLAYER DRIVEN.  Its not player driven with alphelia, bots, and safe zones.  This is some broke ass theme park mascaraing around as some "revolutionary mmo technology".   Remove safe zones, put some better tools in place. Make a better radar system. Expand how orgs are ran and how they can utilize planets/moons to form nations.  Let the players figure the rest out.

DU needs more gameplay mechanics other than endless time-gating.  Other than building, everything else in the game is not even good enough to make a mobile game out of.

Since current DU has the gameplay depth of a dried up puddle, there is no reason for F2P, or a sub. Once people sub for their 3 months (the minimum sub amount, if I recall correctly) most will leave for other pastures.

Add to that, when people find out they charged people, took everything away, and are gonna charge them again for the EXACT SAME time they already put in.  Plus a lot of the negative reviews and comments that disenfranchised players are going to leave...  Well...  They have a huge uphill battle to even GET players.

My totally average guy with no knowledge what-so-ever prediction: DU doesn't last more than a year after "launch". Prolly way less, but I am feeling generous.

[filtered] no. I put in a lot of hours (admittedly not as many as you) based on the promise lie of persistence. I can't imagine logging in to have it all deleted. The announcement video is so unbelievably cringe inducing and really is the only thing you need to watch if you are thinking about playing DU. They don't care about players at all, are borderline incompentent and can barely even talk properly let alone make a decent game. Double dipping 'launching' is a trash move and using their inability to take accountability and fix things as they happened as an excuse is pathetic and only shows they do not have the skills to run a persistent live game server where immediate response and communication is necessary.

I'm happy in a way that I can finally forget about this mess of a 'game'.

"Abo games are my favourite, you have an overview of your costs and can enjoy the game without any problems."

you can have that with F2P aswell, what a stupid comment

"WoW isn't a dying dinosaur either"

yes it is, every statistic shows that and blizzard started to hide the sub numbers because they are horrible

The problem with f2p is and remains an enormous risk for the developer, because he cannot foresee how many players will buy what in the shop, one mistake and a large player base is gone from the game and the house of cards immediately collapses

yeah one mistake and a large player base is gone from the game you mean like patch 0.23 in DU? another stupid comment

Even if the customer for the annual pass is gone after a month, the money has already been collected.

sounds almost like a scam/cashgrab strategy. im not surprised that you like that kind of strategy

At the moment, DualUniverse as an f2p would simply mean death.

who says that, you? laughable. i tell you what death means: extreme low player numbers like the game has for a year now. NQ talked alot about new players in their wipe video and i highly doubt that alot of new ppl will sub for game that has not a good reputation and is unfinished.

Or you know, everything should be in a pvp zone like other successful space games. EvE and Star Citizen.  SC if you mine, you can be shot.  In EvE if you mine you can be shot.  Funny how those games have such a strong backing, and one has been alive for decades.  Surely that cant have anything to do with it right?

I guess it really depends on when start your evaluation of "what DU is about". If you start really early on, I think it was very PvP focused. As time progressed, the Devs began to shift focus and move their pitch away from it being a PvP game and more towards a building/industry type game. But I feel like that just showcases my point in that the PvP people (at least the long-time backers) are the ones that have given up the most in the game given the original promise, compared to other groups like industrialists or builders. In my opinion, I think anything tier 3 and above should only be accessible by doing activities that are inherently risky/could get you killed.

Regarding games that are PvP focused, I feel like there are definitely ones that have lasted quite a long time (eve as one example). Other MMOs that aren't PvP focused do have a PvE element in them that is actually challenging or risky. The PvE in Dual Universe presents no risk of loss in really any form. Without that risk, I fear the game will get very stale after the initial rush. I am really rooting for DU though, I think it can be a really good game!

I feel like a lot of people have really forgotten intent for this game was primarily focused on PvP/survival. I think the PvP community are the ones that have had to give up more than any other community in the game. We were told we would get Territory Warfare, instead they gave us Alien cores and said go play in a corner of the universe away from the rest of the community. We were told that survival outside the safe area that you start in would be "cut-throat" and you would definitely need to know what you were doing before venturing out away from that starting safe zone, instead they put a large safe bubble around EVERY planet and a HUGE safe zone that covers three different planets, they gave everyone the ability to completely skip any possible PvP risk by setting warp drives as a T3 element.

So from my standpoint, the beacons being PvP locked is the first step NQ has really ever taken to make PvP an actual part of the game and I hope they continue to gate more things behind PvP (or at least the risk of PvP).

And btw, I am currently on the side that doesn't hold any of the alien cores.

Exactly source of my restlessness last 2 years. With only difference, that I kinda sharply felt that we being duped not on lines of wipe/not wipe (there was no doubts NQ will do it as logical finale), but much much before. With every year game being downgraded futher and futher from KS pitch -- something many of us paid for. So whole wipe thing is only last straw (for some?) in long chain of red flags planted on sides of road.

Again, nothing new with stage-managing and stage sweeping. This clear-ups of unconvinient opinions is not something new. Just before people who raised such question being often marginalized, attacked by "loyal subjects" (some of who now found themeselves on recieving end, suddenly).

If anything NQ always seriuosly struggled too be honest.

I've already submitted this as a question to Aphelia, however it has occured to me that no one seems to have asked if ore pools on all planets will also be reset. Currently anyone who is already sitting on high tier tiles can save the bookmark information as text and as soon as the wipe is complete can head straight to the high tier hex and skip the scanning part.

This would give players who do this a significant advantage over everyone else and new players.

For me the best game experience is the early phase, where you have nothing and have to build yourself up.

    <->

On the other hand i decided, if a better game is released in the next year, i will leave DU.

The early grind of DU will be funny, i am really sure about that. But on the end i know what will wait for me on the endside. AFK-content, afk-mining, afk flying mission. An unbalanced pvp experience which is lacking content. List goes on..

I can't help but laugh at peoples saying "Now this is the release, there wont be another wipe !" or "You really thought there will be no wipe after a beta ?"

    Beta release :
NQ - "No more full wipe now, we PROMISE !"
Players - "Yeay ! Let's play for real now, invest our time in it !"

    Re-release :
NQ - "Here is the final full wipe !"
Players who played years - "F"
Players who have not played - "Yeay ! Get rid of all those beta cheaters ! Now I will play !"

Also NQ in this annoucement :
"We hope to have only one release"

    It's HILARIOUS.
    Good bye everyone.

    Terrible.

I was willing to accept a reset and move on, if a problem could clearly be stated, and an explanation could be given as to how the reset would address that problem. This announcement did neither of those things.

The 'problems' you described, some people having more money than others, old bases and constructs existing, those aren't problems they are game features. These factors do nothing to impair the experience of other players, and the reset does nothing to prevent them from happening again.

Let's face it, NQ have no idea what they're doing. With each update they backpedal, reversing course on previous decisions which were themselves reversals on longstanding standards. NQ are just throwing every idea at the wall to see what sticks, and since nothing is working this is their last desperate attempt to wrangle some subscriptions in hopes that they can keep Dual Universe running a little bit longer.

What DU needs is a clear picture of a fun gameplay experience, and a structured pathway for getting there. Most subscribers signed on to DU with the expectation of exploring alien worlds, staking claims, becoming part of a bustling active community and going to war with other communities in a perpetual struggle over land and resources. The creative ship and structure building was just the icing on that cake.
What subscribers actually got was a hollow shell of a combat engine and economic system, both of which actively discourage any sort of conflict and provide an entirely unsatisfying experience when combat does occur.

Not a single thing NQ has done over years of development time have moved us any closer to that vision; this reset certainly won't.

As sad as it is, I think the reset is necessary.

However, before you do, in my view, you NEED something that puts the evolution and maturity of the universe in the hands of the players, and combines the activities of the players to achieve it.

All the techs were unlocked and built within weeks of the first release. You put in schematics to slow that down, but it was horribly artificial and just a grind gate.

What we need is some kind of loop within the game that allows the universe to progress.

People Mine -> Make stuff -> Build ships -> do... something wit hthe ships?  -> Tech up - > Better mining and ships > loop repeats

If you don't do something like this then the game will still suffer from the issue it has now which is 'I built some cool ships, made some money and... now what? The ships don't really serve a purpose other than to allow other people to do things a bit quicker until they themselves get bored of doing nothing.

Everyone needs a purpose that feeds in to someone elses purpose! Personally I think some kind of exploration element that yields alien tech that can then be used by researchers to produce better schematics etc could do the job. Would give people a reason to go out and explore (beyond rare ore) and an entire new job/purpose for people in the universe to specialise in, and each feeds another profession in a loop.
