It was more a general remark, The French have a habit of needing to debate/argue/discuss something even when the outcome is kind of known in advance.. It's something I have had to "deal with" on occasion personally

I am curious in what you expect to gain in a wipe that would be better then no wipe?

While it may appear that way, I don not think so. With all due respect and no malice intended, they suffer from a "being French issue"
 
NQ has many traits that are pretty well known and common for French companies, the ever present drive to discuss and "debate" every little detail at lenght, even when totally obvious what needs to be done..

You's certainly right but the problem is that NQ has no awareness of any of this, they do not consider these things important. In general, they do not view the community as a priority and have actually said as much.

OMG I am laughing so much I can't breath..  uhuhuhu.. you want..NQ.. to make a .. a.. roadmap.. with like. .decisions. and say things that are for sure.. and..and actually  follow it..!? I mean.. NQ..  stop! Your killing me!  stop!

Well, subscriptions have run out a week ago. For me personally, DU has shut down. And I am not even feeling sorry.

It's just bad business -- and I really wonder where their new CEO is and what they are doing because it seems like nothing has changed. 
 
If they believe release will be a smashing success when they've sabotaged their own beta testing at the moment it's needed most, they are more arrogant than I thought. 
 
Do the wipe. Use that opportunity to see how FTUE scales with beta players, because I'm not at all convinced that mass-spawning outposts was load tested. I mean, did they learn from beta? That ocean of abandoned speeders? Giving every new player a permanent hex and an outpost might be a better FTUE but surely they see that they're repeating the same issue, right...? 
 
Give betas this head start to turn this into a "soft release" -- attracting new players over time instead of all at once on release day 0 (which will implode their poorly tested and optimized infrastructure). 
 
It's like they've never released software before (well as a company they actually haven't). 

Just my personal opinion, but not saying anything about the wipe is leaving paying customers in an uncertain situation that can quickly turn into disaffection to the game: this project has so much potential that I feel sad in seeing it wasted like this: NQ we deserve to know what your decision is now.
 
 

Using a wipe to balance a MMO is fundamentally wrong. Treating the symptoms (wipe), without addressing the cause (unbalanced game mechanics and not properly dealing with exploits) will never be anything but a temporary fix.
 
And yes.. I imagine that some of the full-wipe advocates are not necessarily doing it for altruistic reasons, since it will enable large org to use their knowledge about the game to completely dominate and take over.
 
 

IMO it's because they are dishonest and want to take as many monthly subs as they can right now regardless of whether or not that is the right thing to do.  They know people will cancel their subs when a wipe is announced so they keep putting the announcement off and claiming to be still discussing it.

I just downloaded DU yesterday for the first time. I was not able to log in and there was no explanation why. Then I bought a one month game access and could log in. I stayed in game for about 8 hours and never saw another avatar on a Saturday.  Loved what I saw so far and very minor bug or two. 
 
Question, why is NQ charging a monthly fee if a) they are going to wipe, b) still in beta, and c) empty of players. And how do you sell stuff if there is no one to buy? 
 

I have played beta long enough and other games for decades. I get it. There is no winning anything in DU. There is no game loop you can win.

I do not consider the post NQ made as putting anyting on the table as I am convinced they have made their decision to do a wipe as I have laid it out quite some time ago and the post is really just filler and a stalling tactic. The post really did not tell us anything.
 
 

All those are 'normal' MMO issues that NQ MUST be able to handle without wiping the game.
If they cannot, then it will only be a question of time until a new wipe will be needed after release. And another one, and another and so on..
 
I mean we all know that the game will be unfinished when released right? And with major changes to the game coming after release, it means that those issues and worse are bound to happen again also.

That is easy to say if you don't have literally years worth of effort stored as assets in the game. A game where players have payed real money to play in a mmo where PERSISTENCE was one of the main selling points.
 
So basically you are saying that burning bridges with the founding players with years of experience in the game, is a good thing that will make a fresh start that will make new players flood the game for...   reasons..?
 
In my opinion the only thing that will be fresh from a full wipe, is the vitriol and bad reviews/negativity that it will generate.

I do Not understand Why a Wipe is even contemplated. ? The loss of time and effort would be impossible to calculate.
I don't have a lot of game cash, I don't care how much anyone else has. Its literally of no importance to me.
 
You need methods for fixing the problems you see with out wipes. You will need them going forward to deal with unforeseen issues when the game is out of beta. I only have one account, One character.
 
I sell resources to buy schematics, So I can build the parts I need to build ships. Witch is what I enjoy doing.
 
If your going to remove Schematic, then you have to tell us what you intend to replace it with. other wise the concept of removing them is nothing more then noise.

because what is seems to be I will loos every thing and have to start again.
If you cant fix the game with out wiping it, what's to stop you from doing this every time you run into a problem without a simple fix.
 
You have outlaid the options you are discussing, But there are no details of howe each option would be accomplished.
You want to take the monopoly money away, because you think some have too much?

This exactly. NQ silence = confirmation of wipe and they are delaying any official word so (more) people don’t quit.

As I've said before, NQ knows hey will wipe and roughly when. There may be some factors still not set in stone, but they know when they plan to release an dthey know how they wil lhandle the lead up to that release, which I have no doubt wil linclude a partial wipe.

The problem here is that NQ totally fails at communicating and seems so disconnected at this point they just do not know how to communicate the plan towards release and are their usual self in waiting until the very last moment. MEanwhile , anyone with half a brain knows a wipe is coming and the only sensible fomr of that is a partial one, where talent points and blueprints for the constructs your are either cerator for or which are DRM free are retained.

If NQ was not planning a wipe, they woudl have said so by now as ther is absolutely no a single reason I can think of to not make that announcmeent. So from that, the conclusion a wipe is going to happen is very reasonable an least and the worst part of that is NQ seemingly being oblivious to this..

I agree with blaze, I think it is a scheme to milk customers for as long as possible, and I find the dishonesty repulsive.

Assuming they want to wipe, they would want to 
A: do it with the release
B: not annouce it long before the actual wipe, as that would mean even fewer people play.

So if the release is planned for eg october, and they want to wipe then, it is a good idea to not tell us already.
If they had decided on not wiping however, they would have told us. So, we can take their silence as a yes.
