The org Space Trade Empire has dispensers purporting to sell gold scrap, but dispense 0.10L of hydrogen. I'd recommend never buying anything from them, ever.

I think there is one of greatest misconceptions of our community that builders (at least true ones) somehow in opposition to challenging mechanics or pvp. They are not. Because all what they need is access to T1-T2 voxels, safe tile and some social aspect to have fun. It simply little conflict of interest, they can even coincide (like its more fun for builder to observe drama while building something in comfort).

Real opposition and category of players NQ catering (voluntary or not) is who I call "hoarders-braggers", people who are not nessesary super into building (sometimes totaly not) -- ones who want to have everything in game (as fast, easy and in large quantities as humanly possible, not nessesary honest way) to show it off, brag about, feel rich and powerful, but never ever risk.

    Generaly, same guy...

I understand - but honestly would prefer to have less trees and avoid them than having the poor graphics for no reason (cuz if you can't hit them, and they look rubbish, why show them?!
But 200kph isn't slow - if I"m driving at that speed, trees whiz by - in the game it doesn't feel realistic.
Yeh - I think that's what I've been missing -  now I can finally grab some land, I'll give it a go!

Ohh! I didn't realise - so if I find any district inside the starting area I should be able to find a shuttle? Thanks!

Oh! Wow - I can't wait to try this! -Thanks!

    That needs a name too.

for the stuff with trees and graphics i was in the same boat when i started and therefor only logged in a little in my first 2 weeks or so and was quite dissappointed at first...performance was meh and speeding around felt like as you said...a game from the 1980's

well still started building a little and said to myself...well at least build a house and see how it goes....well got more and more hooked to be honst over time  as i didn't leave the grid so often with the speeder anymore it also looked ok and what really got me was building the first ship and be able to travel to other moons/planets...the building and testing if it works felt really satisfying.
dunno from there on you land and trees/rocks and stuff still take a while to load but it doesn't feel so bad graphically anymore as the planet when you approach it looks quite nice and overall there is some nice planets to explore.
besides that all the stuff i can build wherever i feel like really got me hooked..so i guess there is no why should i do this or that but you can and for me that's more then enough for now and i am enjoying the freedom a lot and it's fun to play with a few others where you also build stuff together.

    maybe that helps?

    Flying Faster with less
    or
...Dual Universe and the cross section calculation

I quite enjoy building small efficient atmo flyers (you probably know the Hagboard)
The key to the fun factor of these little ships is keeping the Frontal Cross section as low as possible. For the Hagboard it is usually 0.38 which is the smallest value that is possible if you still want to have the comfort of a hover engine on your construct.
But since some months, DU is not making it easy for these little ships. There is a bad bug with the cross section calculation which usually leads to a wrong (higher) calculation of the frontal cross section.
You can easily see the problem by entering build mode and having a look at your max speed & frontal cross section. In most cases you first see lower speeds and a higher cross section, and after some additional seconds this value changes to the "real" values.
So the frontal cross section is supposed to be the total surface of the ship when looking from the front. This should be a static value, but due to the bug, we get 2 separate values.
Even worse: when starting a flight DU usually takes the "worse" value to calculate the flight physics.
I assume that the first "bad" calculation is done on the client side, and the second "real" values somehow come either from the server or using some values being loaded fro the server.
As sometimes the server is slow, we get into a situation where the "better" values might even never get loaded to the client.
As well during flight, DU re-calculates this values. So even if we manage to start a flight with the "better" values, we might get faster speed & Acceleration at first, but after some control movements DU usually falls back to the slow values.
There is 1 trick how you can do a test flight and "force" DU into the faster values.. give this a try:
    1. place your construct flight ready, pointing towards a wide open area ( e.g. a big water surface)
    2. enter build mode and look at your max speed / frontal cross section
    3. wait for the max Speed & Cross section to be displayed with the "better" values
    4. exit build mode and directly activate the seat/remote controller
    5. give full throttle, avoid steering and try to stay between 100 and 300 m...
By following these steps you should be able to do a flight with the "full potential" of your construct.
Another possibility to increase the speed of your construct is to remove ALL Honeycomb from it. The cross section calculation only fails if there is at least 1 honeycomb voxel on your construct. so without them, it should always use the "better" values.
i have 2 tickets around this topic open now for 1-2 months, but obviously NQ has more important things  to fix right now. But as i get asked multiple times a day, i thought it would be easier to give the explanation here so i could point people to it ?

    Have fun flying,

    Hagbard

@Mornington Be careful what you are suggesting here without knowing the details.  But since you brought this up, I had already made it onto Lacobus past the blockade AND warned Infinity Corp about the blockade AND had already entered into negotiations with Whitemeat and the other "gunters" to join them in our efforts when I had announced to them that we were close to having the entire puzzle.  I took the risk personally instead of putting my org members in danger.

Don't assume you know what is going on with limited information from the interview. Its called strategy and diplomacy and both worked perfectly, with zero IC ships being destroyed, and a share of the Thoramine in our vault.

I just noticed something, something very, very, very, bad. Likely to be the spookiest thing I have seen this Halloween and is indeed the scariest thing I have seen today. Today I placed down L core for who knows what time, I then measured the sides, then I noticed something horrible, for those you have basing off of the 2x2 cross section of the L core for your constructs, this is disastrous, for I have discovered that the length of each side is 511 blocks which if you are counting is not an even number. This horrific revelation means that a large number of L core constructs are off center, and that the L core it self is off center mean for those of you who like your builds to be symmetrical they are not, horrifying I know. Nova Quark please fix this grievous error as to prevent others from suffering the same fate as we all have in our unfortunate existence. Thank you for your time and may your Halloween be better than mine as now I need to fix everything.

Atmosph3rik reacted to Musclethorpe in What if identification/lock distance was based on thruster heat signature?
By heat signature I mean having an assigned value to each thruster and space brake, based on size and if it is currently active. There would of course have to be a delay (let's say a full minute), so as to not have locks lost the very second they are not in use.

The suggestion to have hit chance based on cross section could still be implemented, but having the ID/Lock distance based on heat signature could open up a few gameplay avenues.

    1) Running cold would be a thing. Either coasting at a set speed, or remaining motionless would provide protection from would-be attacks.

    2) Advanced piloting skill ranks would be rewarded by allowing their ships to use fewer, and smaller, thrusters in their designs.

    3) A bit of forced survivability, as a ship takes damage and loses thrusters. Without closing more distance, it would become harder to target a ship as it either limps or tumbles away, organically increasing time-to-kill.

Just spit-balling here, as NQ has stated PvP is quite a ways away from where they want it to be, and the playerbase can effect some positive changes.

I'm gonna throw out my .02 USD.

If you want a more polished PvP-centric gaming experience right now, go play Eve or Elite Dangerous. PvP isn't ready in DU.

STOP complaining about "carebears." Seriously. NQ wants a player driven economy, and those "carebears" will be supporting it and the war efforts so that PvPer's can kill each other. It's exactly what happens in Eve, even though there are those who would destroy all PvEer's for the sake of it (and destroy the economy along with them too, though they'll never admit it).

Just deal with it for now. I imagine that once there is more game content (meaning missions and other reasons to leave the "bubble") you'll get your PvP. I don't understand why some "PvPer's" want to target barely armed noobs and call it PvP. I just don't get it. But until then, deal with the fact that it's an unfinished and unoptimized game, barely out of Alpha, that's concentrating on basic building.

I really, truly fail to see the issue with the current safe-zone, and I'm a player (along with my friends that play) whose top feature is PvP. I think the people that are demanding the safe-zone be limited to Sanctuary/Alioth are failing to see the bigger picture of how a truly player-driven sandbox would fail to function if people had only a small moon/single planet to safely build and run operations on. I desperately want NQ to rework PvP to make it a satisfying and comprehensive experience, but the safe-zone doesn't have anything to do with that. Give people reasons to leave the current safe-zone and there will be no shortage of PvP.

Picture tells a 1,000 words. If you think PvP should be this or that see where it ranks among the other players and what we collectively want next.

Did you guys realize that this is a sandbox? It has a economy and skill system like eve, but the goals are totaly different. Dual Univere is about creating stuff. Building Worlds. While eve is simply about domination. So balancing and slow progress in eve is much more important, since there is nothing else than the "game of numbers and ranks" While in Dual Universe the economy and progression is just the foundation of the creative experience. Your Skills and Resources are the tools to build your world. Why should this essential part be locked with massive time gates or grind? If you have fun on waiting for something or doing the same thing over and over to make a tiny progress. Well, play eve. But if you want a blast of a Sandbox-Spacegame Dual Universe is the thing. Because it does NOT make you wait for the good stuff forever. Because it does NOT force you to invest hours of grind. Because you do NOT need multiple accounts and characters. All this eve madness does not exist and thats great. There is no need for Dual to be more hardcore. This game is not about competition in the first place. Its about creation.

Unless you have a valid reason for the chargeback, or you're sure you never want to play again.  it's probably better to cancel your subscription through the link in the email.
