Honvik reacted to EasternGamer in MERCURY (0.30) UPDATE NOW AVAILABLE - discussion thread
This is how lumi voxel should be, a bit bright, but it doesn't hold a candle to actual lights. Not some lighting multiplier.

In the above picture, there are zero light elements, and it was plenty bright. All NQ needed to do was ensure that it was consistent with distance. It appears that in the PTS update, they either limited it or had a distance limiter making stuff look bad for longer corridors.

In the end, you had people who had some advanced form of Stockholm syndrome with the terrible perception that multiplying lighting was a great idea.

For those wondering what I mean by Stockholm syndrome, it's basically where you come to phycological dependance your captive, to put it basically. The captive here is the poor lighting effect that persisted for ages, and now people have become attached to it. Now, when a new player sees this, I can't say for sure, but man, I doubt a new player will look at this and say "working as intended!"
Dual_Universe_2022-06-28_12-38-04.mp4 (Repost of Zer0Krypt's video for emphasis on my last statement) As in, when a new player sees this, they will definitely say "working as intended!" (This is sarcasm)

Exchange seems to be further moving us away from Player Controlled Markets/Cities to NPC controlled.

I'm now a bit confused my idealistic DUFriend. My english isn't the best I have to admit. So let me sort some words. I'm fully on your side. You possibly just didn't get em the way I've expressed myself, namely in a positive sense for ppl like you - spending so much.

Meantime you've spend more then me obviously without having one char @livetime. And that's what I respect. Supporting the dream NQ once announced to us, the SciFi Nerds we are.

From who did you get that info with the alcohol ?
Not that it isn't true, but I never outed myself - me wonders.

In the hope these words addresses the my correct standpoint @Cergorach
You - having all those chars running - are one of the MOST affected players and I'm fully on YOUR side.

I'm only on one char plus one beta-key I've spend to one of my friends ..

To be honest it is all smoke and mirrors.  A lot of what was stated in this Newsletter are things promised in 2021.  Why not show some of the early systems for TW, Recycling etc?  We can give you some feedback early on so you can develop it but equally it gives us something to get 'excited about'.

Currently the game is dead, empty, quiet because of the Wipe Hype no one is sure what asset is going or staying and that makes it even worse.  If I know 100% everything but BP's are going I'll get on, fly my stuff, PvP like you want us to to test for you knowing if I die (lets face it its likely I'm going to be outnumbered) I wont give a hoot.  However not knowing means I'm still cautious on asset loss.

This past week I've seen more of my org quit/cancel subs than any other week as they are bored as hell, fed up not knowing about the wipe and wont put the time into the game until they know one way or another if it is worth to do so!.

We need answers and a roadmap.  Remember its been a few months since the last big update was launched so by that a new one si due around the corner (yes I originally read no more major patches but this post kinda says otherwise).

End of the day we just need to know to plan.  Sadly I'm spending less and less time in game and chilling in other games which is a huge shame.

    Thanks

Honvik got a reaction from Haleksey in Voxel and Venting : What does the Game Design team think ?
100%.  So with Athena update I did think 'Well we will need siege ships' mainly for attacking Alien cores but the result of that would be any defenders who are more mobile, easier to turn would eat that L core up fast because CCS is still poor and even voxel HP overall is still poor.  What I thought with their 'fix announced' on the calculations that CCS/HP would perhaps be tweaked so voxel is more effective especially considering weapons damage overall has drastically increased with previous updates.  I think I envisioned even in a fleet fight there would be 'tanks/capitol ships', then the rest.  It is still lending itself to even smaller ships than M cores now for speed but equally they can still do a reasonable amount of DPS.

Point i'm making is you should be rewarded for using Voxel armour not hindered by weight CCS etc'

Note - Firstly we thought Alien Cores in lockdown don't produce items but apparently they do.  It still takes a significant amount of time to get it into lockdown but anyway not sure if thats correct or not.   A group of us have randomly been hitting cores on and off due to numbers.  Secondly from asking NQ we wrongly assumed if the Core/Base shield goes down and we capture it then the base shield goes up and we capture it

    The Preparation

With the majority of the PvP base in Legion plans went on behind to secretly arm non-PvPer's to a huge event before the impending wipe decision, a lot of our PvP'ers have paused with NQ's post about a wipe.   For props Deadrank/Caerus contacted with a potential idea to gather a group of orgs and equally arm, provide logistics support for one final event but also a good way to give NQ feedback.  They had built warp sleds to carry vessels and other orgs built ships and poked their non-PvP players so a very raw and quick into PvP for many.

    The Day

The day had finally come to give it a go.  Prep was completed and the gathering point confirmed.  Forces from multiple orgs were ready and an rough plan was formed.  A fake attack was made (maybe more too) but the bulk of the fleet was near the Alien Core.  Orgs/Groups were split into comms with A 'Siege wing' sole role to target the core (Reality is they should have just shot ships now what we know).  We knew Legion potentially had a 'Warp Beacon' Nearby so knew it had to be as quick as possible as unfortunately if your the attacker you really are limited compared to the defender who could keep warping more ships in.  We had around 30 people to start with which is a mammoth amount of people (this increased slightly as more joined in) but one of us was dropping off 'decoy' ships just to mess up the radar (they even had weapon looking stuff on them!).

Transponders were broken still as NQ did not fix it in time so this was even more of a challenge with a huge list, people new to scripts/Lua.

The fight begun with one of us blasting in to spot a couple of Legion Ships.  We did call out core ID's to target but this was a newly formed force so no simple task at all.  I personally was chasing a L ship for a period and swung back to the core to assist.  The L cores of our group begun battering the Base shield with others targeting legion ships (core ID's).  Our channel had the bulk of people and it was a little chaotic.  I had personally split off with a few Legion ships and chased an L core which I successfully Cored and with more on radar for me it was to quickly get off grid to vent my shield (was low).  I rejoined the fold closely and we were still at that point successfully coring Legion allied ships but equally ours were slowly being popping off, then rapidly more and more Legion ships appeared.

The tide had totally turned quickly.  Multiple ships, multiple double/triple seater ships (A lot of ours were single seater things) all targeting people with ease.  Some allied forces had already begun to flee unbeknown to the core group but the Alien core shield was still going down.   It was obvious without the people and ships it was only a matter of time before it was a full retreat.

It was at this point a few ships named the same as Legion and strafed into the fold to keep hitting the core.  The shield was close to breaking point.  It was at this time at 1% shield I failed to escape and at 1.8SU away one final shot hit me and BOOM.............  I did however exit in time to float about in space.  I managed to fly to the core in case we needed to repair to capture it.

At this time Lovoda finally made it on 'grid' his ship opened up onto the Alien Core and BOOM the core died.  A few of us frantically tried to repair the core and they did so we thought huzzar! we won the day.  Sadly this was not the case in fact Legion blew it up within minutes (we did delete some plasma and took 1 that's it).  Thinking it was a bug one of us kept coming back with a ship and kept re-coring it or we flew to a wreck and reactivated old ships that had cores stored in their containers.  Honestly we thought it was a bug so kept going!.

Running out of throw away ships, wrecks to use we called it a day.  I guess we thought wrongly if the core died, repaired its yours with a shield.   So its good feedback to know that is not the case.

Anyway this was a blast but that was the last made hussar from the group.  Reality is you equally needed a trained PvP group to combat another PvP group so well played to Legion it was an absolute blast and more importantly the SERVERS HELD UP WITHOUT MAJOR LAG!!!!!!!!

Mining units are fine as we do have asteroid mining if we need extra 'ore' the issue and its a big one is elements do not decay or die (even in PvP due to the meta).  NQ turned off elemental damage.  Therefore ore goes in, no ore goes out (product wise) thus market is flooded or people hoard their elements.

If we had decay mechanics proper ones and destruction was on.  Ore prices would go up as ore would be in demand.  Ore is literally not in demand anymore due to what I am saiying!  Plus the NEED for voxels on ship's is not there.  Another hope was voxels mattered and they really still dont due to the changes in Athena.

Honvik got a reaction from Zireaa in Voxel and Venting : What does the Game Design team think ?

Honvik got a reaction from Zychov in Wipe talk so lets go back to original plans and more?
As we all know DU Wipe hype has currently crippled the game after the post.  Less and less people are logging in as a result sadly.  This is also a good opportunity to go back to original plans perhaps?

    1) DU was always suggested to be a Civ building game with one safe zone.  You cannot build civilizations if everything is protected on every world under a safe zone bubble.  We should remove the safe zones that were added and go back to the original plans of the game.  The purpose for example of sanctuary was a protected world (I presume Haven is too).  Without NPC's the game needs that conflict mechanic so should you need to go out you need 'friends' not totally do everything solo.  It is an MMO after all.  I still remember early Beta people did such that and when hauling ore used defence ships for escorts.  Now we warp from safe zone to safe zone.  With all mining in a protected areas you can never remove a person who got 'lucky' and found an infinate ore.  So why not go back to original plans from the get 'go'.  Or at best keep Alioth, Thades, Madis etc Safe but everywhere else non-safe zone.

    2) Element sinks both PvE, PvP are 100% needed or you'll go back to this situation in 12 months time or less.  Even in PvP element lives dont disappear reguarly (may more in Athena as more add voxels to builds).  Again industry needs the ability to make quanta and it is an ore sink so 100% makes logical sense.  Or alternatively introduce a 'decay' formula.  You use it more it slowly loses HP to where every fully repair reduces the elements max HP down till you eventually need to replace it.  This worked GREAT in Star Wars Galaxies.

    3) Mining could have 'fields' that sporadically change.  Worked great in Star Wars Galaxies.  It would mean you may have to re-scan, redeploy every so often.  But ore values change in time so one field is never 100% to remain like that forever.

    4) Add NPC's for PvE.  Eve has it, why doesnt DU? the events we've had are not always brilliant but sadly NPC's would give people to target something and capture (good for practice)

    5) Add alliances.  Legit alliances so they show different colours on your tooltip?  i.e Organge Friendly, Green Org and Red anyone else.  Alliances can be declared by the Super legate.  IF you wanted to expand you can have alliance constructs.

    6) Base shields extend to all constructs including planetary shields for TW (when it is added) timer system needs tweaking but concept is 100% there.  Of course this would work well with planetary atmo pvp so maybe a full future expansion.  Plan it in place?

    7) If an expliot occurs REMOVE what they gained.  Dont shrug it off.

😎 Removing alts (free Beta Keys).  Obviously if a wipe happens this will force people to buy their alts or not.  Legit doesnt bother me if someone pays for 10 alts to mission run.  Situation we are in is some people have 80 Beta account alts for free!!!

    9) More Lore, more events.

    10) player market and taxes.  We need removing the NPC ones and bringing player markets in.  Come on why have NPC ones when Freeport for example is excellent or Utopia Station where legit we need player driven content

This is a snapshot.  This could be an amazing game title people love building, people want a legit combat mechanic, people want that civ building too.

We hope everyone who attended our Fools Defense event held on our PTS on April 1st had fun.
We especially did, and thanks to our fellow Noveans, we had a ‘blast’!

As some of you might remember in our previous announcement for the Fool’s Defense event, there were some prizes to be had. We are pleased to announce that the winners have been chosen and the Wheel of Foolish Fortune is ready to start spinning! Which prizes will our foolish actions provide those that dare take a spin? Find out on the PTS on Saturday April 9th, 14:00 UTC for all the wheel spinning action.

After combing through our logs with a fine tooth comb, we have chosen six participants whose bravery, dedication and foolishness left the server room sizzling. We are now inviting them to prove their luck and talent once again by taking the Wheel for a spin!

Walter - For landing the final blow causing the destruction of the defenders station, many developers were harmed in the process. (Yes, we checked the logs thoroughly.) Copperlein - For being so good to us on the PTS, yet destroying Nautilus A’s Core, and breaking our heart. Dronko - For destroying Nautilus B’s Core, and again breaking our heart. (Et tu, Brute?) Wolfram  - For being devs’ best friend by reporting bugs on our forum. Mastuga - For being such a Trooper with the amount of ammo (pew, pew, pew) they used during the event.  Honvik - For forcing so many players to return to the resurrection pod. Skyreaper - For coming back to life so many times we thought they were a cat!
Winners please present yourself on the PTS on Saturday, April 9th at 14:00 UTC for your chance to spin the Wheel! If you are unable to attend, a Novaquark representative will spin the Wheel in your place. Prizes will be given out shortly after the spinning of the Wheel has concluded.

Please note: All players will need to go through the new FTUE on the PTS in order to participate in this event, please allow yourself enough time to go through it.

Players who wish to join in the fun on the PTS are welcome, teleport over to PVP Platform 2 (::pos{0,0,2729026.2814,-98851321.2156,-1455512.2758}) where you can witness first hand the spoils of war!

PVP - Ship is cored then it is CORED i.e Elements Blow up, Lives lost voxels explode.  Currently Nano Meta CCS pops and an intact ship can be added a new core and back in operation in 5 minutes........ Most stupid game issue currently!.

As for Decay it is NEEDED for the economy.  No ifs, no buts it is is needed or we will continue to be billionaires!

Not opposed to a wipe as much as I would be gutted the economy is destroyed because there is no Element Destruction or ore sinks/quanta sinks in DU.  I would say keep BP's and Talent points but everything else I can live with as it would mean everyone is equal from the 'start'.  That means trillions removed from the game, ore etc. anything abused from the past like schematics will go and should they bring in Ore in and ore out then it will be far more stable going forward!

A central theme in what I read here from "PVP players" really implies they signed up for a game that does not deliver on what they are looking for and now try to establish their importance to the game in some way.

I can certainly see the argument that NQ still has not clearly defined the game and what they envision for it at this stage, probably because they have no real clue themselves yet and are to busy trying to keep the company going.

While an important part of the game, DU is not about PVP, it is not created for PVP being a main driver in the game and it is not a PVP game as in PVP being the central focus/goal of the game. Trying to make it so only does pretty much what OP describes, groups trying to make everything "about PVP". The problem is not "carebears", it is not "the safezones". The problem is some groups trying to redifine the game to fit their narrative and in the process ignore or dismiss anything that doe snoit fit that image.

And no, the game will not become a PVP heaven once safezones around the outer planets go away as I fully expect NQ will create an environment and system in which the PVP aspect always is at a disadvantage and it will take  effort, organisation, manpower and strategy to be a successful agressor in TW and it will be massively easier to defend.
