DarkTemplar reacted to NQ-Nyzaltar in Subscription should not be its pay model
Novaquark's point of view regarding the definition of "Pay to Win" (and why the DACs aren't "Pay to Win") has already been clearly stated in this post.

If a thread isn't locked, it's not an implicit authorization to continue it ad vitam aeternam.
Many forum have in their forum chart a line "No Necroposting allowed", which basically forbid to revive a thread that has ended a few months ago.
Why? Because a thread might make sense in a context, and might talk about something completely outdated in the current situation, generating unecessary confusion in the community. True, Necroposting isn't mentioned in the DU Forum Chart, as it wasn't necessary until now. This might be updated.

You took many shortcuts while making comparisons between games but as Lethys, Tnecniw and CaptainTwerkmotor already answer in details to all your points, there is nothing to add on the topic (the point of view of both sides have been explained in length). As it's also a discussion that already happened in several topics on the forum, and questions raised here has been answered many times as well, this topic will now be locked.

    Thank you for your understanding.

    Best regards,
    Nyzaltar.

You can make 200 millions a day by simply PVEing (ratting as it's called in EVE) and within a week of actually pew-pewing you can get the money to buy PLEX. Oh, that's with a destroyer class ship, or a Tech-1 Cruiser, those Alpha Clone F2P ships.

If you go mining? You can be making 100mil AN HOUR by mining. A PLEX (EVE's DAC) costs 1.2 billions (as of this point, prices vary and it begun to drop again). So, it's all about not being lazy and seeking for "P2W" buttons, like in F2P games. oh and in EVE, I don't have to pay for energy refils, or have to go through paywalls to play the game. I bought subscription once, ever since I live off of PLEX. Why? Because I know how to make money and I know how to profit off of the markets in-game.

If you've been on this planet called Earth for more than 35 years and you cannot understand that :

    1) Quality and customer support are paid for.

    2) "Free" is not free and that makes you sound like a person that's gonna end up a drug mule by taking "free" drugs. Cause that's what F2P games are. They are meticulously crafted Skinner's Boxes, meant to drain you of your money as you press the same "P2W" button over and over and over again so you can lose to some other wallet warrior. You get hooked up to the formulaic colours, random loot-box / crystals opening, revealing shards to unlock a more "stars" quality of an item, and being sucked into an endless grindfest until they brasslly ask you for money.

Then goodbye to you sir. Hopefully your offsprings won't take "free" drugs as well, cause that's what F2P MMOs are turned into, drugs to satisfy gratification.

Which is why I don't believe you are a 35 year veteran of ANY industry. You are too much out for instant gratification and entitlement to not be a certified millenial.

And as for STO, it's crap. It's only kept afloat by people who wear yellow and black spandex as their pajamas and speak Klingon as their first language. And guess what, DU is about being a team player and playing as the red-shirt if it's neccessary. It's not power-trip fantasy like STO, thus, it cannot actually monetise by sellign "Captain Piccard's Amazing Hair Products" to boost a person's stats.

Why? Because the game revolves around dying, respawning, risk and reward. You can't have a Risk & Reward game and having it F2P. If you can't understand this, it's because Pay-2-Play guarantees a "buy-in" price to your risk being authentic, as you may lose your account and all the progress you have made if you are to act like an ape.

P.S. : Being good at automotive electronics does not make you an expert in subscription services. Cause clearly, you can't understand the reason the contracts went down, is because Time-Warner or one of its subsidiaries bought the mobile services providers long time back. You are still being milked in other ways by Time-Warner, but you are so blissful, you are not even realising it.

I hope you are not an actual automotives electronics veteran of 35 years, cause with that kind of clarity of mind, you are pretty much guaranteed to be one of the people that produce General Motors cars.

1: Aaaaaaand? A subscription is, yes... quite alike a cellphone contract. but it is the most stable Pay model for a online game possible.

2: The wow shop... (even if I dislike it quite heavily) is litterally as far from P2W as possible.
All the mounts and pets are cosmetic (except pet-battles, but honestly, nobody plays wow for PvP pet battles), the helmets (the three of them) are some of the most disliked transmog pieces in the game and don't even have stats, ONLY costmetic. and the 100 boost? THAT isn't P2W. It is P2C (Pay for convenience)

It is for those people that want to try a new class at max level (or level an alt to max level) but don't have the time that they are willing to spare on it, so they pay to get a character up high so they can do the interesting stuff. You won't win any PvP or PvE content easier because you do it, it is just for those willing to spend more money then time.

3: Wrooooooong, people constantly earn money to buy PLEX. Sadly have EVE (after about 12 years I think) implemented a "free" model. Where you are a alpha clone, but can't get the skills to fly the big ships and stuff... so you are basicly a grunt. But EVE didn't truly fail because of its model, but rather because of its difficulty curve and generally "grindy" gaming style. IT is REALLLY hard to start up in EVE, unless you find a good, newbie friendly CORP...

4: STO (Star Trek Online) is garbage. I am sorry, but as a new player trying it, it is pure shit. The graphics are ugly, the game is slow and clunky and much more.

Also, do you know WHY F2P models even works? It is based on a single concept in the game industry, WHALES.

WHales is what you call players who spend ENORMOUS amounts of money in the game, I am speaking tripple zeroes worth. Basicly THEY are the players that keep the game going, making sure you guys can play for free. Without them, POOF... a game goes up in smoke cause it don't earn enough money.

MMO's are SUUUUUPER expencive. They are the most expencive game type in the gaming industry, "F2P" isn't TRULY F2P... more like "Letting Someone Else Pay 2 Play" so "LSEP2P"

5: F2P models are the LEAST worthwhile paying way of them all. It brings in a UNSURE amount of money and it is never 100% sure if they will get what they need each month, the reason it is "vastly more popular" now.. is because companies understand 1 thing.

People won't pay a subscription model, for a game they don't think is worth it. WoW, in all its glory, is the best MMORPG on the market (in pure content and player base) and when people start playing another MMORPG (that is like wow) they automatilcy think,

"huh, this game is great and all, but I could be playing WoW instead". IF the game isn't free, they have no reason to pay money to play that game, since they can play wow instead... BUT if it is free, then they can play the game on the side when they want, since it don't cost them money. You get the point?

The ONLY reason that wow has gotten as big as it has, is because of its subscription model, it has allowed it to gain a steady and safe income, with a clear way to plan and check their income (basicly they can look at their subscriber ammount and say ROUGHLY how much they will get by the next month) WHICH allows them to plan and produce content according to that.

They can take it slow, focusing on quality over quantity. Making grand things, while F2P games have to CONSTANTLY pump out loads of content and updates to keep the small, uninvested fanbase interested, so they don't leave for another F2P game. You follow me here?

THERE. You have gotten answers to everything.

DU is going to be SUB, and due to it honestly being unlike any other MMO out there at the moment, it could REALLY succeed.

I like this idea. And certainly hope there will be some PvE aspect in the future. As we know, it most likely won't be implemented at launch, probably a year or two later. And because of that, players will be set up with resources guns, ships, whatever. I think the monsters spawned should be difficult to take down, and a proper challenge (for moderatly geared people). This means there is a need for well equipped players to actually go out and take down these nests.

Regarding the nests, I don't think there should be something limiting a planet getting overrun by these monsters (please be bugs). This will mean you can't just leave the nest. The only proper way to stop them is to take out the nest. Although there should be a limit for how close these nests will spawn. My thoughts is have a pretty large distance between nests, but have their nests zones/territory intersected.

Lore wise, I definitly think we need monsters. Unknown planet with completely new ecosystem? Gotta be guys on the top of the food chain before we arrived.

DarkTemplar reacted to Caprikel in Some Ideas Relating to PvE
I'm sure there have been previous posts about PvE, but I want to share some of my ideas as to how PvE could work in Dual Universe.

So in one of the early Dev Blogs, JC mentions NPCs in this quote: "
At this stage, it is not clear if we will have enough time until the alpha to implement NPC animals to come and bother you during the night, as well as serve as hunting preys. But that’s the idea, because you will need to feed yourself, and the nanoformer cannot make wood-based lunch for you!"
So based on this, it's clear that JC plans on the game to have a survival aspect to the game at some point, where hostile creatures will bother you in the night, like in Minecraft. I thought about how the PvE system would work if it was the same as it is in Minecraft, but the system of monsters spawning anywhere the light level is low wouldn't fit well with Dual Universe at all. Having monsters spawn in your skyscraper just because it's a little dark would be a huge annoyance, and would ruin the immersion that Dual Universe creates.

So instead, I was thinking that hostile creatures could instead only be spawned in certain locations where a specific monster spawning block is generated. For example, this could be a giant nest that spawns a wasp-like creature that attacks players if they get too close to the nest. I think it would be interesting if these creatures behavior varied based on the species. For example you could have creatures that are extremely territorial, but are neutral otherwise. For other creatures, they could roam in packs like wolves, and attack anything they find.

I think hostile creatures could become pretty important in various aspects of the game. For example, it creates an incentive to build shelters to survive the night, to build cities with walls protecting it, to create turrets to defend from monsters. It could also create a whole new profession, monster hunters. Maybe the game could spawn a nest of hostile monsters every couple weeks that creates a problem for a vulnerable settlement. These settlers don't have a group of powerful soldiers to eradicate the monster nest, so they hire a group to hunt these monsters and destroy them. (It could also create situations where you find abandoned towns due to monster infestation, which I think is pretty cool.) Also monster nests could be used as a rare material that's desirable, so monster hunter groups could also just hunt monster nests for the sake of getting the rare resource from it. (And of course the monster themselves could drop something somewhat useful, like food to help sustain the hunt.)

Of course, many issues arise from this system. For example, there needs to be a system that prevents a planet from being covered in monster-spawning nests, so maybe it could be limited to spawning within a certain radius of players. Maybe the higher the density of players in an area, the more powerful of a monster spawn-nest is created. Another issue is making sure there isn't too many monsters, so you obviously don't want the monster nest to continually spawn monsters that flood up the game, so as long as the monsters despawn when players aren't around, it should be fine.

So what are your guys thought? Assuming there will be monsters eventually, what kind of system for monsters do you want Dual Universe to have? Also, what kind of hostile creatures do you want to see that would fit well with the lore of Dual Universe?

With members spread globally, the Vanguard maintains a constant presence within the universe. As a part of this ubiquitous Vanguard, you will never be truly alone. You will always have a home, and a respectable amount of freedom to pursue your interests while not on an active mission.

Individuals who share our ideals, are willing to take on a wide range of assignments, and be a part of a larger family are highly encouraged to apply to Vanguard.

    What is Vanguard?

Vanguard is a private mercenary corporation that holds diversity, community, and teamwork in the highest regard. Unlike simple soldiers or bodyguards who are designed to follow orders, members of Vanguard are recognized and treated as individuals working in teams. No member is simply an asset, each is unique in their desires and aspirations. While Vanguard the corporation accepts contracting requests, whether or not most requests are accepted is determined by the Vanguard teams and their members.

    Organizational Structure:
The ranking system of Vanguard was designed with simplicity in mind. This was part of a conscious effort to eliminate possible confusion regarding power and status within the company. At the highest level, a Platoon Leader and their assistant(s) oversee four different Squads. Each Squad has a squad leader and assistant squad leader overseeing the members.

Typically, a vanguard member comes to see their squad members as their family within Dual Universe.

    Is Vanguard for You?
With members spread globally, the Vanguard maintains a constant presence within the universe. As a part of this ubiquitous Vanguard, you will never be truly alone. You will always have a home, and a respectable amount of freedom to pursue your interests while not on an active mission.

Individuals who share our ideals, are willing to take on a wide range of assignments, and be a part of a larger family are highly encouraged to apply to Vanguard.

    Base of Operations:
Vanguard plans on operating out of a battle carrier named the Invictus. We aim for her to be a testament to our ability and a beacon of strength for the Vanguard.
Apart from the Invictus, another separate, grounded home base will exist for members to carry out their own personal projects in safety and peace.

DarkTemplar reacted to Anaximander in WAY TO GO NOVAQUARK!!! (thrusters & physics model)
If the devs have planned for fall damage on players towards a planet, by simply making the engine say "if target reaches critical velocity, then they die if stopped", then a fast spinning construct (emulating critical velocity of gravity on its centrifugal forces), could possibly build mass and could almso possibly be a topspin of doom if unleashed on a horde of players.

This, could also mean, that later on, we could build voxel helicopters, by spinning blades that emulate a lift, as their "center of mass" is lifted above the vessel / helicopter. But this would require multi-part constructs voxel-wise.

For the moment, let's just hope the physics the devs develop won't be left unused in a possible - hopefully - collision damage model, regardless of how it's implemented (and always, without having it be a voxel-to-voxel collisoon model, but a mass differential and impulse based).

DarkTemplar reacted to Eminio in Public Resignation from Dual Secure and The Void Republic
Hello. My name is Eminio and many of you may know me. A few months ago, I joined Dual Secure to try and help repair their relationships with the rest of the community. It was an uphill battle but I have stuck with it. I have done my best to be on good terms with the other members of the community despite the trouble of the leader mmtheboss constantly going out of his way to upset people.

I noticed a number of things that were off about this group but decided to stick with it, despite:

The large amount of fake accounts that were used to pretend like the organization is rapidly growing. By comparing the community site member lists to the discord users, I believe that there are at least 10 - 15 fake accounts that were created for the explicit purpose of inflating numbers. The repeated reneging on statements by mmtheboss. Namely, stating that he would stop spamming people.  The group allowed and condoned exchanging political power for inappropriate material, and denigrated users who refused to participate. Screenshots below :

He offered to promoted me if I sent them nudes, and then insulted me when I refused.

In addition they attack people and claim them as "slaves", as well as censoring and attacking any idea that they don't like.

Now, after the group has been hit by yet another spy attack, mmtheboss has been attacking and accusing anyone and everyone who would listen, all with out evidence. Now, after I have stood silently by for too long, he turns on me and accuses me without evidence. I will not take this laying down. I am resigning from both The Void Republic and Dual Secure, effective immediately.

He attacks his own people for no reason.  Here is his accusation against me. Note the lack of proof and unprofessional attitude. He just attacks me for no reason.

This is truth, and I will no longer be silent.

    Discord screenshots removed.

Greetings all! I come before you all today with a new addition to our community: The Dual Universe Historical Society.

Several things struck me over the past few months:
If other such games are anything to go by, the history of Dual Universe shall be grand and intriguing, and as fascinating as that of any Age or Empire in Earth's history. Why? Because this game will not be made of just pixels but also of every person who plays it. It will be built from the tears of every person who watches their Empire crumble, the sweat of every person who stays up late grinding time into this game, the cleverness of diplomats, the creativity of artists, and the inspiration of leaders. Hope, Anger, Revenge, Happiness, Greed, Humor, and Loss will all exist in this universe. To put it simply, this game will be filled with everything human, and a story with this much humanity deserves to be told, and to be remembered.  There are a lot of wonderful people here from all over the world, from all over the political and social spectrum. There are young people, older people, students and businessmen, truckers and programmers, and this diversity will only grow as the community does. I have already had a few very good political discussions with people from other parts of the world, who have different perspectives on things than I do, and it has been a fantastic opportunity. There are a lot of people here with an interest in history, economics, politics and other such related fields.  And so, I would like to create a place to bring all of these things together for the benefit of the community. I would like to create a place of scholarship, of learning and debate. I would like to create a place for us to take a break from the battles and learn more from each other. That's what the Dual Universe Historical Society will be. That's what it is.

Because this is our story, and it deserves to be told.

    Discord: https://discord.gg/ecErPae

Note: I am still setting all this up, and can't do it all alone. I am always looking for more people to assist with this project and will also be putting together a group of writers to produce content for the group. Check out the Org page and the Discord for more details.

    Acknowledgement and Apology

Hello everyone, I am making this post to ackowledge that I was in the wrong from the start. I want to appoligize for my past comments and behavior towards the community. It all started with the spam issue, and everything errupted from there. I am sorry how I did not take the advice as I should have. We have made many mistakes, and I sincerely am sorry for how everything has turned out because of these mistakes. For example, we messaged too many users to help promote our organization. Also, we did not take the advice given with the amount of respect it deserved. Yes, we failed to generate good relations with many organizations. I am extremely sorry-

And would like to say I am now working on my attitude towards the community. I will show more effort into taking advice. I will learn from the mistakes I have made in the past, and show all the effort I can to fix our damage. We have done a lot wrong, and have treated the community in ways that are not okay. As you can tell a lot of mistakes have been made. That is now in the past, as I will do everything I can to improve our relations, and not repeat the mistakes.

As I will try my very best, I am asking everyone to also be a bit more peaceful towards us. Start fresh, and speak about the future. If we can all make an effort to fix the past mistakes and start fresh, I see an amazing future. Also, I have taken all of the advice in the past into consideration now. I am using it to help fix this reputation.

I am sincerely sorry for everything that has happened. And am sorry how the relations played out in return.

Let's try our best to be more open, and give me one last chance. Yes, I should earn my relations back, but also don't make it so tough that it is not worth it..
Thank you all for the advice, as I will try my best to improve everything. I will change in attitude and work hard to remain in peace.

    The Salt Syndicate
    Who are we?
The Salt Syndicate is an emerging faction based upon the more questionable business strategies. Throwing in game ethics out the window, we offer a variety of ways to help the faction and your self thrive in Dual Universe!
    What can we offer.
This all depends what you want, and are willing to do! The more involved we are in the development of the faction, the stronger we can get. We will primarily focus on pirating and bounty hunting to start. But then we will continue to grow and focus on economic control. This can include patrolling shipping routes, blockades, and more! We can also offer resources for construction of new ships and ultimately, profit!
    How to Join?
Just apply! It's as simple as that! Just look up "The Salt Syndicate" and apply to join, and we will try to get to your application as fast as possible! We only ask that you contribute to the development of the Syndicate in any way you can. If you apply, we guarantee you will be accepted! Of course, we have rules. Be respectful of all members of the group. We may not have sound ethics, but we have standards. Also never harm the development of the group, in game or out. If you follow these two basic rules, you should be fine! So apply for The Salt Syndicate Today!
