  1. Haku0814's Ideas O_o Options Individual options for different ambient sounds namely engine and machine volume controls Ideas for PVP people AND the would be Victims. For the miners and industrialist in flight! Jump drive - you "Jump" 5-10 SU in the direction your pointing and do not loose acceleration ( if an obstacle is in your path, you are moved into a nearby non-colliding spot ). This helps with "Off-pipe" driving for more seasoned players, would also help with the last leg of a trip to ensure deliver/arrival. Burst radar jamming unit, it just buys time while the other ship waits to lock on/see you. Deployable decoys, they are artificial version of you, core size, ship name, etc. They also show the same information/visual when locked onto. Initial deployment scrambles current lock-on by other ship. Cloak - Replaces your ships look with a glass globe effect and reduces chance to hit and range to lock. No warp possible while in use. PVP side of things Inertial inhibitor, prevents jumping and reduces target ships speed Hardened Sensor array - reduces jam time of Burst radar jamming Rapid EMP unit - Disengages decoys, slow rate of fire. Wolfpacks - ships with a specialized cockpit that can sport ONLY 2 weapons, contingent on size of core. Why? With only 1 crew member, it is more likely for packs to form to "Hunt" other players Makes engaging in PVP a little more simplistic, you can fly solo and still shoot! Limited ability, the ships will NEVER be as good as a group, though you might starting hanging out with your future crew this way :3 For EVERYONE! Voxels/Parts outside of pieces that DO something formulate a ships HP, Handling HP and Shield HP should be composite of XY components on ship with ABC components that have to be repaired separately. Damaged is shown via FX and various crippled ship systems. Why? Simplifies ship damage and server stress Why? So we can change and add shield mitigation as well XD to replace the previous lol Now we can begin adding shield/damage flavors and maybe even a system to slowly transition shield mitigation via polarization This means we have a reason for scanners etc. Another thing to add, would be an "Mode" that L cores can switch to that temporarily anchors them and allows activation of a warp beacon on the ship. Sacrificing Mobility to try and call for reinforcements. Preparing for a remote engagement. My other favorite form of warfare Drones/Drone bays T1 Drone miner ( watch the little robo critters eat surface rock, player must remain logged in ) *Critters are visual only, gotta save the server ticks X_X* Nuff said here ( Utility, mining, sentries , etc. ) Avatar V Avatar ( precursor/prep ) Along with the ideas posted here, would like to see at least a rough draft/placeholder style implementation of an equipment screen. Devs could switch the default "Weapon" we start with to an equip-able with a RClick menu, that would create a basis for interaction, etc. Going further, equipables do not have to show on players, they could buff things outside of skills. Like a REAL jetpack that consumes compressed hydrogen cells, or something. Enhanced NANO pack gear. Make us run faster. Does not have to have any effect on characters yet, just create an opportunity for the dev team to start poking around at it Pre-AVA, so that work later can be smoothed out some. Tablets/Controllers that can be linked to a remote unit on a ship or multilinked. Helping poor devs not starve We players understand you have limited art staff/staff in general, maybe open a contest for ideas to be sent in, rewarding the winner/ 1st 2nd and 3rd place with a 3mo free sub or skill points <- we players will kill each-other for these btw, seriously. Outside of Art, the solar system really does need a more fleshed out story to it other than, we left earth -> we arrived! -> we build. Feels kinda FLAT really. You could pair this up with the aformentioned "Art" contest. Things like this can help drive community engagement, it would also help showcase to the public, that the community is trying to make an effort, and that people still like the game. NPC missions like some people said, could be from, our first contact in DU, Aphelia. With daily work logs/request from her. Please get rid of free quanta, MAKE us engage in the game. Market Stuff o_O Consumables Food stuffs / drinks Could have different effects, both statistical and visual Enhancers Give larger buffs, tracking, accuracy, etc. Make it easier to see the value of something Tooltip would show a breakdown of what RAW ore resources would cost for an element I only mention this as seeing some things on market are cheaper than the ore used to make them. I'm guessing this is due to lack of knowledge on players part. Remove bots and use Aphelia missions for cash instead - these should be limited per player, not just orders, thereby creating a set Market will self correct itself eventually, though being able to see the price of ore compared to final products would be a huge help with this. Using market prices and their current PURCHASE trend with X/Y threshold to keep ppl from mass posting 0.01 materials and then buying them back right away. < < < ( This was sort of added? PTS ) Limited Run Schematics Increase market entry oppurtinities Reduce Schematic cost now that they are limited run Increase h sink across multiple groups Good reason to add "Original" Schematics and "Researched/Improved" Schematics Inbetween tiers that can be found via researching? Research "mini-game" for crafters requiring resources? Research Why not, being able to throw resources into a research Element to try and create XY result is a great way to boost market flow for parts. Research could replace schematics and players who purchased said schematics would receive X to Quanta of skill points. More movement on the parts end of things, increasing the need for something, etc. Diversified market based on values of items such as thrust fuel consumption etc. Aphelia missions!? ( added on PTS!? May not be same as below. ) NQ could use this as a way to disperse fund for active players. Mining events that are long-term to provide materials for NPC ships, haulers etc. Fulfilling these in turn increases NPC hauler activity between worlds. Creates a combat opportunity for hunting players and pirates, outside of fight other players. Creates cannon fodder for miners/haulers to hide among while doing they're part. NPC ship would be from user submitted BPs. Again, creating another even for builders every so often to submit more ships for filling in "Gaps" from players to keep activity levels between systems moving. NPC structures for drop off on ea world for missions / non-player missions. Farming We've done it! From the Ark ships archives we have recovered animal DNA to clone and create small scale farms! This is just to feed into the "Market Stuff o_O" ideas, because, who needs to mine when you can farm! Would required some major Salvage addition? Short range salvage scanner Would help ppl to move around the planet more / give a crutch to the less lucky players to locate salvage on planet surface, though it would require some time to locate any salvage. Back end, salvage system that spawns salvage, both in space and on planets. Would scan for cores in any spawn area and spawn 30-40km away, should be far enough to not be visually seen unless your looking for it. Only becomes active if system salvage has less than X number of wrecks left. Voxels do not count towards wreckage mass in this fashion. ORGanization Stuff Assett tracking I'm thinking of something more than just tracking VIA the map, an ORG with an entire fleet of supply, warfare, personal vehicles, that list will get cluttered very quickly. Flight Space radar to continue working until 1% Atmo, due to stations being within safezone and not appearing to pilots, PLEASE?! Ability to Toggle space/atmo radar, much needed to avoid collisions. Braking state saved directly to dynamic constructs, braking behavior default to toggle instead of holding to activate. ( optional ) Alignment Computer - An element that allows a users ship to automatically align with a given bookmark. UPGRADE the map to 3D with bookmarkable points and zoom pls T_T ( Why do we not have this already!!!!??? ) Inventory / Industry Hub Interface - Allows Avatar Only access to hubs. No In/Out from IND/Transfer units. However would allow access to multiple HUBS via interface. When attaching containers to hub, we should be clicking on the hub and then target containers without the need to retarget the hub. Same for other connections, industry would be a little less painful for some, and a breath of fresh air for others. Control Relay - A small 1x1 voxel item that lets you link it to a controllable object to open up its UI. Able to be swapped to OTHER objects if LUA is used. Option to turn off error sounds on machines and use ones own LUA based system instead. Lights/Audio of choice/etc. Honeycomb Compressor - It just takes Honeycomb and compresses/reverse engineers it back into it's Pure/Product form. Disassembler - Disassemble an element into it's components, loss of 35% with skills that gain back 5% per skill. Makes salvaging a ship in PVP more worthwhile because no you can repurpose the components into something you find useful. Further Scanner Improvements? Scans themselves I feel are a bit messy, some ideas below may conflict, fyi Scanner names - Scanners name should be switched to using the planets numeric number and the tile the scan is for instead of a general "Scanner Result" name. The other idea is to remove scanner results altogether and make a scanner DB element, or event set it to use and advanced item that can keep an expanding DB that can be right click and exported to, the inverse the same as well. The first idea in this section could be used to make single scan exports that can be sold/traded with other players Any rescan of the same tile will automatically located it's original scan and UPDATE it, rather than duplicate it. Culture Would like to see, though it may be a bit far fetched, an art contenst sent out to the public in each major region around the world for their idea of space armor. ( some people are asking where this came from? I was listening to different pieces of music and the change of mind made me think of how culture could effect DU. ) It would add a very literal, difference not just in ships, but also personal cultural taste. At the moment we are all stuck on the idea that we are "Noveans" we just a bunch of people who made it out here. Now that we have established ourselves some, should we not honor those cultures we left behind. Armor can be looks only, aesthetics per say Different armors for different looks Underlying "Equips" could be statistical only More variance in color choices than default armor Maybe even add armor only found on derelicts when they spawn?! It would just be awesome as hell to see designs from say, Russia, China, Japan, Europe, America, The Middle East, even in what their take would be for armor for the future using the base novean armor as a guide. Just Communication ( Gundam W Pun... ) Mail boxes, message only, no items Dialer/Phone? Voice?! A way to either communicate via voice either to an avatar or to a ship Great for P2P communication being kept within game Ship to Ship for when Optional, able to be toggled off Territory Problems? Territory upkeep Why money, make it a resource/power system that must be used instead to add another commodity in constant need. T1-3 variants with different output, power is tile based and can flow outward to owned tiles. Industry taking power now creates a reason to keep it fed, increasing upkeep and need for more interaction from orgs for multiple players. Increased transport traffic, we hate it, they love it, now we have to get power OUT to certain locations/stations in order to be used. Different reactors T1-Tx would need different fuels made from T1-5 materials ( creating market variation and demand for more base/refined materials ) No power causes a players TCU to go un powered resulting in no longer being owned after it's "Backup Power/Timer" has kicked in and notified the player of issue. Notification comes up via text and shows a blinking hex when unpowered, would also show for orgs as diff configurable color ( in the case of multiple orgs )
  2. First things first, I'd like to just leave my opinion clear here, I really don't care if a wipe happens or not. I've pretty much burnt out of the game over the last few months and the only reason I keep a subscription running is because I have hopes that at some point it will get better again, and if it does, at least I still have my things somewhere, as they took over a year to get to where they are right now. That being said, I obviously would just pause my subscription if NQ announced a wipe, at least until the game is wiped and some minimal amount of content is back. I simply don't have a reason to pay for something and invest time on it if I know it will be deleted in a few weeks or months, and also won't have any reason or even time to play when everything is back to stone age. Oh yes, and being back at stone age, that's a good topic. NQ is selling the game with lots of promises (one of them, back when I joined, was of persistance, but let's forget that), such as big battles, etc. The issue with that, specially since everything is player-made, is that after a wipe the game will be basically empty. Pretty much all there will be to do is to get started. Even proper professions won't be a thing, since everyone will be stuck grabbing rocks, queueing talents and starting over. PVP is even worse, first because it's a high risk investment, then also because pretty much everyone will be on the safe zones anyways (even if only Sanctuary is the safe zone, after all, everyone is starting over). A bit related to starting over is how the wipe would happen. Lots of people seem to want something partial just to "fix the balance", which we all know won't do much. A good part of the imbalance of this game is caused by the whales who own a ton of beta key alts and pretty much have those characters maxed out in some skill trees. If talents aren't wipe then those accounts could either have a massive advantage against anyone - newbie or not - or even be sold to new players or anyone looking for an advantage, even though that's against the rules. For that previous point, what I think could work, is requiring a 3 month+ sub at least, at beginning, to keep the points. To anyone properly playing the game it will make no difference, after all it's the minimum sub time you'd need anyways. If you have one or two alts and think it's worth keeping, well you can go for it too, but would quickly make things difficult to handle for whales, since they would have to expend more and more to keep their 10+ alts running. And for a final point, the NQ silence. While I understand they are on a very tough position, they should at least start this discussion with the community. Yes, obviously lots of players will stop playing with a wipe, specially people paying, but I'm sure many are already getting tired and just feeling like giving up the game altogether because of this lack of proper communication. There's also the chance of a massive backlash when the wipe happens. The earlier NQ starts talking about it, the less it will feel like the whole silence thing was a scam to get players to pay for something they won't keep. And trust me, since the whole reason for a wipe is getting ready for release, the worse thing you can do is to leave players with that feeling, as that can (and will) easily turn into bad reviews and things that will turn off potential new players. Anyways, if you read until here thank you so much! I hope the best for this game, for real.
  3. You did nothing to fix the all too frequent disconnects. (Plus now there's the bonus possibility that my ship may impact something before I can log back in) You did nothing to address the server lag and "Pending Operation" errors. (So I'll likely be getting stuck 800m down, unable to continue mining. As has been the case lately) You did nothing to address the fact that the planets and moons have been stripped of higher tier ore. (There's nothing more disheartening than arriving on a new planet, only to find those huge holes going straight down) What you did is make it so I can no longer use my warp cell factory. Which I use to enable safe travel to my bases, which allow me to mine the T2 and T3 ores. You also made it so I can't use my cockpit controller factory to make cash to buy the ridiculously overpriced T4 and T5 ores. I just finished setting up bases on Symeon and Teoma to supply Chromite and Natron. But those bases are now relatively inaccessible without the ability to make warp cells. My goal entering this game was to create a small company that specializes in higher end ships with custom voxel design. But with this change in industry that path is no longer tenable. There is basically nothing left for me to do except grind out tens of millions of credits via low tier ore mining... Nope. ?
  4. Will there be an In-game voice? mechanic, and if not can there be a solid one? An in-game voice mechanic which allows you to talk to players that are within a certain area near you. And they can hear you louder the closer you are? And also possibly a way to amplify your voice for example if you're giving a political speech? Or something like PA speakers so you can alert your crew to abandon ship? Even something else like using ships to contact another one of your ships to give them an order or even a motivational speech?. Without an in-game voice, people would be negotiating by typing or even using software such as discord and this can be long and complicated just to talk to someone you just met. And let's say you have a meeting with a high up official who just sent you a message to meet him. Would you rather click on a discord room with him in it and talk? Or would you rather stroll down to the hanger and enter a ship and flying to the officials command ship. To then proceed to walk into his office and sit down for a meeting. This could be done similar to games like Dayz, Rust, and many others. It would really push forward how realistic cooperation between two people can go and the entire game in a whole. Update - (3/03/2018) This suggestion was made a long while ago, and during the course of that time, some interesting questions and ideas have been brought to the discussion that I would like to touch on here. This type of communication is a necessity for Dual Universe, for the scale of this game having a voice system really boosts its quality and can even make the game, Chance encounters are one of the most important and exciting moments you will experience, without a proper communication system they simply cannot be brought to their full potential. One of the largest reasons is that Dual Universe is a societal game, from nations to pirates and companies. You need a way to convey information that is easy and and connected to the game, some examples of this include traders trying to convince you to buy one of their products, a police officer asking for identification, a pirate asking for demands, a superior officer in the military giving you a quick order in an intense situation and the chance encounters that were mentioned earlier like someone who has managed to settle on the same asteroid as you or someone in the street of a large city. These examples show you why 3rd party services cannot be relied on, they take too long to configure and to hold one for an entire organisation would require a stupidly large amount of constant micro-management. A city is alive because information flows through it, cities are what keep organisations alive and if you cannot allow information to flow through a city then it results in the eventual collapse of that establishment and possibly the organisation. An in-game voice system perfectly fits into the city and maps it accordingly unlike 3rd party software. [Further Explanation of above point] For example, lets take discord and build up a small model area of a city, we have a marketplace with around 100 people trading and talking to each other, we have an area not too far away where there is a political candidate giving a speech and between them another area that is a residential building, some conversations are taking place between people looking to buy an apartment and neighbors talking to each other. Its possible at this point to create a setup in discord, you could have a voice room with everyone in it, but then you face difficulty hearing the person you are trying to listen too because everyone is the same volume, you could take the more obvious root and divide the channels into speech, market and residential but then each one has the same problem of not being able to hear the person they are talking too maybe directly calling someone is a better option but then no one can enter that conversation so you divide up the rooms again. In a sense an attempt to map the city to discord. The problem with mapping in discord is that when a new instance is created discord cannot simply be updated, lets say there is an explosion or crash nearby, a new environment has been created, for in-game voice its a matter of walking into this area to hear the new environment and for the map to be updated, you would also globally hear the effect of the crash and how it affects the market, speech and residential area. Discord cannot have a new environment in this area unless you have someone online who can create a new channel in a hurry, and even then you would not get the connected experience you would with an integrated voice system. Some common problems/points: This would put too much load on the server: It could, I'm sure if NQ puts there mind to it they can find a way around it, for example, it could become P2P. This isn't what NQ should be focusing on right now: I agree they shouldn't even look at this feature until some time before launch, or even after launch, it doesn't mean it shouldn't be in the game. This would be an annoying feature: It might be in some places, but if you are in a nation it becomes there responsibility to moderate it, there could be some settings in-game which allow you to disable it, mute specific people, adjust your hearing range etc. Thank you, this has been an interesting discussion and I hope it continues to be.
  5. Hi there, Long time fan and player since the last alpha. Let me start out by saying this game has so much potential and is already in a fairly enjoyable and playable state. I don't want to comment on stuff like performance and bug fixes since many have pointed this out already and I think DU staff have their priorities on getting this on-rails asap. I want to talk about communication mostly, and immersion, and I get the second subject might be a bit further down the line: Communication - critique: One of the things I always think impacts general interest in a game and keeps players peeking for updates, especially alpha/beta or early releases, is clear and open communication and roadmaps. Now, I know there is a roadmap, but I want to be frank about this; it doesn't do a good job of peaking my interest. Its vague, incomplete and simply all over the place. Even the implementation of the poll-system, while a very good addition, isn't cutting it. Communication - solution: I believe the roadmap should be a lot more detailed and divided into short, mid and long term. On the short term there should be details about implementations in the upcoming weeks, with dates!; think of gameplay tweaks, bug fixes, small gameplay additions etc. On the mid-term, say months, there should be a list of upcoming implementations of small to medium systems/gameplay additions/graphical updates. And on the long-term you can keep the descriptions as you have them now in the roadmap, with focus on big changes and implementations, add-ons and serious gameplay changes. All-in-all, there needs to be a better grasp of what the team is focusing on. To take it to another level, if you're working in a scrum kind of way, just share the sprints as short-term roadmaps (just an idea). And all of these need to be realistic, the more you need to push stuff backwards, the more you create a backlog and frustration with the players. Its better to start with small increments and deliver, than vice-versa. Its difficult to assess what you guys/girls are working on back there, while that has many people very excited as well if they knew. Immersion - feedback: I'll keep this one shorter, but after playing the game for a LOT of hours in the past months, it has come to my attention that a lot is missing in the game which should create more immersion. This is mostly small stuff: sound effects mostly, but also visual effects (like the missing animations of industry)... The galaxy and planets feel deserted, even with the amount of players flying around. Its just not... alive. And there should be random stuff happening... nothing major perse. Just my 2 cents that I had in the back of my head and needed to write off. See you in game!
  6. I have been trying to find more information about how Beta keys that are given out in supporter pack will work, but wasn't able to find any. Does a supporter need to use one of the keys in order to get access to beta or are they for gifting only? If someone has an article on this or knows about it I'd appreciate it.
  7. I made a new account recently because you need one if you get a beta code(for some weird reason). A guy on discord told me i could use the same email if i put a comma in randomly in the email. So i did, and right after i fucking forgot which password i chose, and i cant reset the password, cuz then it goes to my old account. Any help, the new account is called KiwiTheCommander
  8. If i havent pledged will there be another way to access beta?
  9. In the podcast, NQ talked about player-created missions and the dynamic play with allowing newer players to earn some income to start off. A possible suggestion was NPC sponsored missions aimed at the newest of the players. Another suggestion is creating an option for restrictions by 'player age'. I don't know if this will be sufficiently addressed by the RDMS or solely handled by the planned Mission System. Under this suggestion, entities can restrict mission access by the age of the player; perhaps by months or weeks. I think it plays to NQ's goal of enhancing contact between older and newer players quite nicely. Quests created under such system could provide the newer players with something to do, earn an income, and be introduced to an organisation, while excluding mature players from farming those quests. It might indirectly affect competition between organisations too. Larger organisations may be able to spare more resources/rewards to lure newer players to them or decide not to bother on that front altogether - letting word-of-mouth marketing do the job instead.
  10. I would like to see more ideas based on automation. So far, I've seen JC talk about having a large number players working together... Obviously, JC doesn't watch SAO, sometimes you gotta solo... I mean, If I built a large ship with guns, I want to be able to fly it on my own, without having to ask a stranger to come on board and touch my stuff.
  11. There are always lots of questions about Dual Universe... Some of the same questions get asked a lot, but people are still always coming up with new ones. One of the most common answers to any question is... "Probably not at release." I realize there are a lot of things that can be pushed off for a time, but I am afraid that there are some features which may be initially neglected which will later become very difficult to implement. For instance, I would love for hostile environments/weather to cause wear/damage over time. Extreme heat, sandstorms, toxic rain, etc. requiring different materials and skills to be able to operate in these environments would be awesome (my opinion of course) for the game, but if I asked whether this will be added the answer would be "probably not at release." But how could you implement something like that later down the road? It would be difficult. You would have to wait for new planets to be generated and then give them those effects; after all, the developers can't just say: "Update 5.67: Surprise! All of your bases on sand planets are now being torn apart by sandstorms. You need a new material we've introduced to make anything that can last there now." Something like customizable elements is a great example of what can totally be added in at a later time, with little to no negative effects. But something like significant weather, or gas giants, or new materials, I feel are things that really either need to be in at the start, or it'll just be a hassle to integrate later. Some others might be: - Food: Spawn into the new update of the months-old game, suddenly you are hungry with no food. A whole new economy based around food now has to be created. - Farming: Farming requires land. If an org knows this from day 1, they may design their bases around providing themselves with land for crops or animals. If instead, they find out on day 100 that it's now going to be beneficial to have tons of open plains, and here they've built themselves a city with large flat one to two story buildings, now they're screwed. Of course NovaQuark can't add in everything at the start. They can't know what update they'll want two years down the road. But, to rephrase what I've said, I don't want features which would otherwise be awesome and good for the game, to instead hurt it because they were added in at a later date after the game had already developed around their non-existence. One thing I am suggesting is... You can lynch me if you want. But add in, especially for alpha and beta, add in features that seem like they would be difficult to implement later into the game in at least a buggy state, so that way players can at least somewhat adapt to their presence. Yes, I am suggesting cramming in features in a buggy state rather than having a mostly stable game. I think that, in the long run, it'll end up for the better. Please let me know if you agree or completely disagree. I know people will disagree; I'm sure of it! Maybe you can change my mind with brilliant logic or reasoning. Please, of course, let me know, but please understand that I am very open to being disagreed with.
  12. I was wondering how long the Alpha and closed beta would be. Do they last until release, or only for a limited amount of time?
  13. morning everyone, one quick question cause i don't find it somewhere else, is the game still in Alpha or in Beta state phase? greetz from the bear
  14. Ive searched high and low but cannot find any information pertaining to "Closed beta release date" Im aware the Official release has been pushed back to 2018, how ever i cant wait that long and am wondering wether or not it is worth Pledging higher for alpha(If viable) or just waiting for Beta??????? -Morz
  15. Hey It was a normal day, i was checking my email and look what I've found there !! \o/
  16. Sand, all up in my junk – Part 2 “RONALD” The world started to come back into focus around Stier, but the infirmary’s Interface was blaring an unfamiliar name at him. “MCNALDO?” Then it clicked. As far as the Arkship was concerned, that was his name. Before the ships left earth, occupants had to sign themselves into the new database after security checks. The UMF’s official records were on a much older system so the administrators were not able to import it automatically. During the sign-in process, some of the colonists changed their name and Stier wanted to see how far he could push it so he entered a phony one as a joke. He wasn’t able to change it of course, so he was teased mercilessly during the simulations. The infirmary’s interface was designed to look a bit like a smiley face. There is so much voice communication from the AI that having a face to go with the voice was supposed to be comforting. Waking from cryosleep or in the resurrection node was a traumatic affair, but this grim mask of death of an interface made it all worse during the simulations. In the flesh it was much more pleasant now that its entire surface is plastered in Greetz Puppy stickers. EDIT: Sticker now in user signature as reference. *Greetz Puppy was a pop-culture brand originating from the late 21st century. The brand went mega-corp prior to the establishment of the Emporium. As the UMF encountered funding issues with the construction of the ARK Ships, Greetz Puppy was one of the mega-corps that provided the rest of the funds needed for launch. These stickers or “cosmetics” were provided to the colonists as part of a marketing campaign. “WELCOME BACK TO THE ARK SHIP, YOU DIED!” stated the collage of stickers. A brief look around revealed that most of the medical bay was peppered in the things. Death wasn't nearly as painful as he thought it would be, turned out it was a lot like going AFK. A quick check revealed that Stier… Ronald actually, still had his starting balance of U2’s and all of his DAC’s. As predicted thieves only managed to steal some sand, and some now very sandy protein matter. Ronald topped up his personal energy and protein stores and headed down to the landing site. Town wasn’t what he was hoping it would be by now. There were only a couple of polished-looking permanent structures and the earth was littered with pits and scattered shapes matter-formed out of dirt and stone. The MODs (Maturity Office Directors) have been quick to remove the obviously phallic shapes, but the more abstract ones loom around the landing site like a lower-school Stonehenge. The most active Alphas have either already left the safe-zone or are still AFK (away from konsciousness) from the Beta. Shortwave chat data is mostly omegas trying to figure out how to use their Nanoformer, or Betas trying to rob each other. Ronald had an idea that it would end up like this. Transitioning from the Alpha simulations to the Beta revealed a critical design flaw of the Nanoformer. The Nanoformer taps directly into the nervous system for its input, which allows the user to collect, deposit, and form matter with only a little practice. That asset is also its flaw, since much like many of the body’s organic systems, it behaves erratically when that neural connection is violently severed. When you die your bowels tend to… evacuate, and so does your Nanoformer. U2’s and DAC’s were never matter to begin with, and were tied to DNA to prevent violent theft from becoming a problem, but this flaw in the Nanoformer made it possible. Beta was a bloodbath compared to Alpha, and the real deal is turning out to be quite a bit like simulation. Welcome to the Wild West. 17. Once alpha starts and ends, then beta, then eventually the final release... I'm just curious what NQ plans to do with the forums during those times. This is the first time I've been a part of any pre-alpha community and I really want to know. Ever since I started taking part in alphas and betas, I always figured that the forums would be archived in separate pre-alpha, alpha, and beta folders, but strangely I've never seen this in any other game I've played. Sure the game has moved into a new state, the old stuff is no longer relevant, why delete it though? Maybe I'm just appealing to my inner historian, but some of the stuff we discuss here on the forums impacts where the game goes in the future. Wouldn't it be awesome to just dig around in some of those pre-release threads and laugh at some of the ridiculous (and sobering) discussions and ideas that we've had and be able to compare it to the current game? It might be inevitable that what is discussed here would be deleted at some point in development or lost in some unorganized jumble post-release, but I'd really love to see some organization and sorting away done with these pre-release threads when the time comes later next year. Hell, I got 6TB of drive space, I could archive some parts of this on my own if it comes to that. Thoughts?
  18. After giving the most recent Kickstarter update video a listen, I got a nice little nugget of info. ~Blueprints will not be wiped between Alpha, Beta, and the Release. This gives a tangible advantage to players at the gold level and higher, as the time they spend building (and helping test for that matter) the voxel system, ship building, and base building will get to carry-over all of their blueprints and potentially have an economic advantage at game launch. While other players are trying to develop ships from scratch or working off of the start ships, Alpha/Beta players will already have designs with a slick uniform look and possibly so will their respective org. Despite not having access to all launch features, this makes ORG play viable at least in Beta to acquire an advantage for main release. Does this provide an unfair advantage to Alpha/Beta players? An advantage sure, however our characters probably won't get to keep the levels we had to gain to make those builds possible. When the wipe hits after beta and before main launch, every other tangible resource will still be an obstacle for players who have a bank of blueprints from the previous versions. I for one will try to flex my Alpha and Beta muscles with the Alchemists to get a head start on builds! Pretty neat eh? I'd HIGHLY recommend upping those pledges to at least gold at this point if you haven't already
  19. Being that this game is entirely open world(universe) during the alpha and beta phases many changes will be made to the galaxy as the players with access to them will begin to mold and alter the universe. When the Alpha is finished will all the changes be wiped before beta release and then the same again when the full game launches? Or will it give you an early advantage in the galaxy to start as soon as possible with the Alpha?
  20. Who here has Alpha access? And how is super hyped for it to begin? I don't know about you guys but the recent mining gif was spectacular. I literally jumped out of my seat and cried allowed to my girlfriend "Did you see that dust effect?!?!" she then gave me a subtle raised eyebrow. Although I still believe that if we all jump around and make a bunch of noise the alpha will get here faster! =D
  21. so my first question, I don't think we have an answer yet on streaming. will it be sanctioned? do we wanna set something up as a group before hand? We will most likely have accelerated building and mining i think. so as to better check the stress of a lot of constructs. This means quite a lot should be possible. if we work together plus having everyone of a goal checks stress on servers. for instance, could we do a scene from a movie everyone agrees on? like brave-hart. Also lord of the rings would be cool. I'm thinking something scifi would be nice but i cant think of one where a lot of people could be utilized. anyways this one is kinda a spit ball could we all decide to get a floating city up and running? we let the blueprint be for everyone playing in alpha/beta so we all get to start with plans to a floating city :-) we have the potential to increase all alpha/beta users worth in the global market after release. thats all for right now ill change these to what we decide and post more questions
  22. My suggestion is, that when the open alpha comes out, after people have spent a while frantically running around, building ships, cities, houses, mining stations etc. when the game is actually released, convert all of these creations into "discarded ruins from a long forgotten race" by changing all of the blocks used. Like all metal becomes corroded metal, all turrets become broken turrets or removed, power cores become depleted power cores that are useless (if there are such things) and giant space ships become 40k-esque space hulks... dead, broken and discarded. Cities built during the time become abandoned wilds, buildings above a certain height have their top halves removed, random holes in them everywhere, environmental recapture so vines everywhere, bushes and trees breaking through blocks in the roofs and flooring. These things could be made to either make them a valuable resource, or have no value at all depending on what the devs want. I would be fine with all of this being purely decorative, part of an integrated sub-lore, but something that cant just be rebuilt in the game as they would be exclusive (yet useless) blocks. Something to preserve, as part of this world's legacy. Hell the resources might even have value simply because of their rarity, after all "party hats" were one of the more expensive things in Runescape at one point - not because they are good or useful, just because they are rare. If you don't like the idea of all this coming from the alpha, I'm sure there's room for this kind of thing anyway that's put in the game by creative teams you might employ. I just think this sort of thing just gives a small bit of...atmosphere to a game that needs it. Anyone agree?
  23. Will player constructed facilities in alpha be seen in the beta and furthermore in launch? Normally after one of these phases characters are reset and maps are cleared; however, based on the lore of the game Alpha players simply were woken up first, so if that is true, will anything we do in the alpha persist to the beta? As well as into launch?
  24. So I hear a lot about this Alpha and significantly less about a Beta. This is understandable since, after all the Alpha is roughly a year away. I am very interested in how to get in this Alpha however, this seems like a shareholder/donator thing. So, finally reaching my point; how can I join the Beta? Undoubtedly, unless something happens if there is an open Beta I will join it. I would be interested to hear about your plans for the Beta and also, if it is closed how to get in. Any information besides what has already been said in the Dev Log would be helpful.
