That is not strictly true though, the pirate gets to choose the engagement and is generally not going into the fight risking cargo, if you are entering fights with the same risk then you are doing it wrong.  There is nothing wrong with that though, pirates throughout history have preyed on the weak / undefended, they are PIRATES ffs.  NEVER in history did a pirate have a choice between attacking a whaler and a frigate and chosen the frigate.

Sorry but the whole argument that someone who is a pirate is just a griefer or psycho is just complete rubbish, will pretty much completely devalues your opinion.  Pirates are just players, the same as you, who have just as much right to be in the game and to ply their trade as anyone else.  Where is the risk to the pirate? it should be the security you have brought with you, if you decided to travel alone and unarmed it is not the pirates fault, they are a pirate.

Without reading the whole thread, how did it rank on the tin-foil-hat-ometer? Bet there was all sorts of theories going down.

Interesting stuff on GDPR @michaelk pretty much all of it is correct, if a bit tenuous.  I also agree with your comment about marketeers, if we find a loophole we use it, a bit like gamers tbh

And it is also very easy to get around the identifiers law using ToS, companies like HubSpot, Sharpspring (pretty much any SaaS digital marketing provider) etc do it all the time, whenever anyone agree their cookie ToS.

Probably one of the most positive things you have said on here lol.  I think it is a tone that suits you, you are clearly a bright bloke, with a lot of knowledge.  I have no issue with people criticizing the game, i have done it myself for many years. I just try to find the solutions, rather than hammering on about the problems / causes.

Personally i do see the light at the end of the tunnel (although it could be a train)............

This is probably true. I think I'm especially biased against JC.

It's just something about a PHD jumping straight into an MMO as their first ever game project and having a (perceived) lack of humility about the whole thing. I've said before that I can imagine exactly what sort of person JC is based on his titles ("CEO/Founder/Creative Director/phD"). Right or wrong, my opinion is that his leadership is a big driver of the game's issues -- and see it as an unsolvable problem because it's his company and he won't step aside to let more seasoned vets lead.

I also think NQ has run into some bad luck with their rollout -- there's no rulebook for how to launch a product during an unprecedented global lockdown where people are generally more pissed-off about everything. Sure people are consuming more digital media...but they're also losing their jobs or not finding work, which hurts subscription-based luxuries like DU.
I 100% agree with this...there's a lot of people that are so hooked on the premise of DU and its very real potential. I'm sure some of the negativity comes from this fact, too -- after following the project for so long and being fairly hyped for beta, it is disappointing to see the actual product.

Honestly I should try to be more positive -- I don't just come around to talk shit and I hope everyone realizes that it's 100,000x easier to criticize something than to actually do it.

To be honest, those point are far more valid than your original set of stats.  That wouldnt surprise me given where the game is though, the big push for the game was BETA launch, only they know where they are as far as their targets.  For all we know they are happy with the number of players for where the state of the game is.  They have one big luxury, all my anecdotal evidence says to me that even when people leave the game, a big chunk of them continue to monitor the game.  So if NQ can get it right, and I actually think there are some pretty simple ways they can fix a lot of the issues, then the game can move forward.  I do find a lot of your content overly negative though.  Like you are trying to beat the horse to death, rather than take it to water.  Might just be I am a more positive soul I suppose.

Interestingly I took a totally different paths from the majority.  I have never sold ore to bots, infact never sold it to players.  I rarely mine and when i do I mine relatively small amounts (rarely carrying anything over 1kt).  I made my fortune from selling mainly T1 products to players, since the second day of headstart.   I made satellite factories at key planets producing certain alloys, which I then shipped to a central space station of make higher tier items.  My favourite was my Cat3 factory on Lacobus, where i managed to create 1000 Cat 3 and get it on the market for beta launch, selling at 100k EACH.

Not just ship parts but also anything else I could make.  I was soon making 100's of sales a day and huge levels of quanta.  I never tried to build a super factory or be self sufficient.  i made what i sold and used the profit to buy stuff other people made.  I never made massive spammy super haulers, because I never felt the need to move huge quantities of ore.

When 0.23 hit, it didnt really effect me as much as other, nor will any future patches, because i never tried to do anything that I didnt feel was part of the civilisation we are hoping to build.

Ironically, myself and a friend both quit for a while because of the kneejerk changes made after 0.23, such as changing the schematics prices and increase the bot buy prices.  Both of which caused us more problems than the initial patch itself.

Remote markets would be good if you had an established customer base (friends, org, etc) or a form of advertising. Otherwise, nobody will know that your occupied hex has a market vs. other hexes in the area.

Only NQ can answer if the daily login alone is enough "fresh currency" to avoid deflation...keeping in mind that the player base is churning (hard), not growing -- and each player that quits takes how many days of login cash with them into oblivion...?

It is really absurdly baffling that NQ hasn't thought about the economy...like at all.

I've never even heard of an MMO that lacks a way to print currency, but here we are.

Considering how easy this test would be, I agree that they should rip out ore bots and see how it impacts the economy. If it really isn't working after a week or two, just put them back...

Frankly, I've given up trying to figure out what NQ's devs actually do all day.

It's been almost 5 months and there's been no major updates...yet somehow the game will be release ready by end of year...when they don't even know the basics of how freakin' currency works?!

But sure, keep spending time on those wonderful events -- gotta earn those 4,000 youtube views somewhere, right?

For me it is the BIGGEST issue with the game, internal comms.  I read over and over again that all there is to do is mine in this game.  When actually that is totally not true.  The problem is that you need to search for all the other options.  You can be a prospector (but you need to use another discord), or ship sales (but again, really need another discord), you can have your own shops (but noone know they are there), you can offer refueling / repair services (again though, noone can contact you about it in game - discord again).  I have a list of 15 different Career paths you can currently take in DU, only 3 of them are really viable without having to work outside the game.

I really think that once NQ allows us to share / advertising what is going in actually IN the game, then we might start to see the civilisation start to emerge, not the current sandbox of hundreds of seperate orgs that barely interact with each other.

Wasnt going to bother commenting on this paranoid negative rubbish, but cant resist.........  you have no concept of the original game concept at all, it is completely void from your argument.  Literally a wall of text to support your our idea of what the game should be, a game that caters just for you.

You talk about you own ideas and opinions as if they are somehow fact.  Possibly one of the most bias and self serving things i have seen on this forum for some time.  You include stats bases on nothing but figures you have pulled from your backside.

    1. Interesting thing about building and voxelmancy, some of the BEST builders in the game - Thousand Stars, Poljack etc dont use voxelmancy really, they build with standard shapes.  Once you learn that it is actually pretty straight forward.  Poljack is currently completing our new large core space multipurpose.  It only took him a about two weeks of game time to complete.

    2. There is nothing wrong with quanta injection, it is the start of the game and the economy, it NEEDS a huge injection of wealth.  EVER economy needs that to kick start it.  Whilst I agree the way of distribution isnt the best and I hope in the future it is updated, there is not any issue with it per se.  I will not argue that NQ have made other choices which have damaged the eco though.

    3. Sorry but not every org is communist, infact far from it, there are a lot of org, including mine, who focus on helping people create independent career paths in game.  Everyone in our org is encourgage to own personal property, the ONLY communal property is supplied by me, the org leader for others to use.  I never ask org members to do something for nothing.

    4. Just build a 4 l core hanger, which is a pretty large space.  It took two of us about two hours to clear the site completely ready for the build.  There are also other players you can hire to do the job for you if you dont enjoy it (CORE gameplay concept)

    5. Not got a massive issue with the talents system but i would like to see a much more advanced starting position moving forward.  So new players are given the talent points at the start to focus on their chosen gameplay route

    6. Feel free to come visit us and test fly some of our ships.  Making a viable ships which is very easy to control is pretty simple

    7.  I am lucky to have built up a large amount of wealth in game, I stopped mining week 2 of headstart.  My best friend has made several hundreds of millions selling ships (he literally mined about 3 times in 6 months).

     8. Agree with that, I would like to see set honeycombs as the item and colours as variety you can choose on deployment

Don't post chatlogs, c'mon guys. I'm not going to go full moderator here, so please just heed my friendly warning.

Also, this post I made a while back might be relevant to this situation so we're all clear on who provides what kind of support/where:

    TL;DR -
Community Helpers = volunteer players who pitch in to lend support where needed in the community.  Moderators = volunteer players who assist others and enforce the rules on Discord and here in the forums. GMs = employees who provide in-game support, but who are limited in doing so; their role is to direct players to the proper resources as needed. They pass information up to the CMs and help us provide more round-the-clock community coverage. CS = employees who officially respond to support tickets.  CMs = employees (like myself) who serve as the main messengers that carry information between players and the rest of the development team, and vice versa. (Similar to a GM). We also handle the running of contests, official announcements and general community engagement. Unlike GMs, CMs do not appear in-game to provide support.

If you back a game for it's location of higher tier ores.. well.. sure, that could be consideration I guess.. That said, it will be and we know this. Once Territory warfare comes in.

There's no argument from me that the permanent safe zone is bigger than initially intended. I can see arguments for both sides of this but am actually on the side that it is too big an area.. IMO Alioth and it's moons would have been enough. Overall though I do not think it impacts the game that much especially compared to other coming features not in the original plans.

I get that for many, the current state of combat PVP is not where they'd like it to be. At the same time I think a good number of players have entirely incorrectly set expectations for it and what it will eventually be like and/or what role it will play in the game overall.

Why would any of that require or benefit from a wipe?  you haven't explained that at all.

What your suggesting is basically what NQ did already.  Except A full wipe, followed by a huge influx of quanta and ore, to jumpstart the game.  And now they are tightening the purse strings and trying to find a balance.

I'm not so sure it was the best plan in the first place, and they definitely made some mistakes along the way.  But it's what they did.

All your suggesting is that they do it all again, but this time just for you.  How does that improve the game?

I dont even think you need to drop it at this stage.  If they just randomised the warp entry points and or made the safe zone distance move over time it would make all the difference.  Currently you can just warp past everything, if there was just a chance that miners / traders would land outside safe zone (or have to take off outside) then it would bring security into the game.  All of a sudden you open up loads of additional gameplay paths for a far wider range of players.

I LOVE DU but I will still only recommend it to 20% of my friends in its current state because the others require the sort of jeopardy I am talking about to make the game entertaining.  People need to understand that it is not only pirate who want some risk in the game.

    Hello Noveans,

December is halfway over, meaning the arrival of the new year is tantalizingly close! 2021 is sure to usher in some big changes, and we couldn’t be more excited to experience those with you. ?

While we were rolling out 0.23.1, we noticed that players who had talents in training lost what was accumulated during our downtime. So, in the spirit of bringing out the old and ringing in the new we would like to offer everyone 1 million talent points (~1 week’s worth) to not only replace lost points, but also as a bit of a holiday gift! Build, explore and be merry!

Thank you for your continued support. We sincerely hope that you and yours enjoy a restful holiday season!

    Sincerely,

Moosegun got a reaction from sHuRuLuNi in why is it made so hard to move ui elements
Most people think that the fact you can actually code the elements of the game is a MASSIVE bonus.  The idea of this game is you are part of a civilisation, if you want a better UI and dont have the skills, find someone who has and pay them to make you a better one.  Drop me a line, our coder would be happy to sort you one out, it has an artificial horizon, parking break, several assists - currently making me a drifting assist to messing around.

Also, not sure it is industry standard to allow users to customise the UI at all (a lot of games have fixed UI) let alone complete remake it using LUA.
