Haunty reacted to NQ-Nyzaltar in Novaquark welcomes Yamamushi to the team!
    Dear Community Members,

We have some very exciting news to share. Many of you who have been here for a long time probably already know Yamamushi. As one of the co-founders of the official community Discord and an early Kickstarter backer, Yamamushi has been around as a very active and well known community member for almost 4 years now.

We are excited to have him joining the team. With him coming on board, a few important things are going to change and we wanted to be transparent about this with you all.  We have always valued neutrality for our employees and we try to avoid any conflict of interests. Like all other employees he is bound to some important communication restrictions. Yamamushi must discontinue being a community figure while he is employed with Novaquark. This means stepping down as a moderator on Discord and our public forums, while retaining some limited administrative rights (precisely to maintain the DU Bot). He is also bound by an internal NDA contract and won’t be able to share everything as a Novaquark employee. For those who are friends with him, we ask you to avoid attempting to get behind-the-scene information from him, regarding the game or the company.

He won’t be able to communicate or play anymore as Yamamushi, but his love for the community is strong and he will continue to follow the community from the Dev side. He will also not be permitted to be a part of a player-run organization. We know this can be hard to face for such an integral part of our community and this has been a hard decision that may feel frustrating (at least it is for us and for him) but a necessary step to avoid any suspicion of favorizing any group of players in the community.

We would also like to take this opportunity to explain what are our internal rules when a member of our community becomes a Novaquark employee:

His/her personal accounts are suspended for the time he/she is a Novaquark employee.
He/she is given an anonymous player account so he/she could still continue to play the game, however, some specific rules apply to such an account:
      a. The Novaquark employee behind should not reveal his/her real identity and/or he’s part of the company.
      b. He/she shouldn’t join a player-run organization with this account either, for neutrality reasons.
He/she is given a NQ account, mostly to test things, and occasionally to communicate with the community in-game (if such opportunity arises). Nothing done on this account (coming usually with more powers/rights than a player account) will be transferred on any personal account.
Thank you for taking the time to read this, please join us in welcoming Yamamushi to the team here!

    Best Regards,
    The Novaquark Team.

    Good Day Folks,
I am Madhatter.  Although I do not get angry, I truly am mad but in gaming, I wear many hats.  I like to get into every aspect of my gaming experiences.  After playing mmo's for the past quarter of a century, I have fried my brain to the point of no return and I do talk to myself, I do love tea and I really love confusing other people.  These skill sets have come in quite handy when it comes to pvp strategies and also in frying other people's brains.  As you welcome me to your world, I will sure welcome you to my world of fantasy, sci-fi, off-the-wall tactics and, the insanity that is manipulating 0's, 1's and pixels.  Seriously though, I am a 49 year old computer technician with some programming background.  I may or may not put this to use via LUA...it depends on my mood, wants and needs.  I live to game and I game to live but by far my favorite aspects of gaming lie in economics and pvp but I fear that DU will put design at the forefront initially.

That doesn't leave much time to game so I'm hoping Dual Universe is the right game to scratch my itch. Looking forward to interacting with you all.

Haunty got a reaction from zoldos in want to pledge $60, what is status of alpha test, etc?
It is in Alpha 3, next stage is beta: https://www.dualthegame.com/en/news/2019/12/04/roadmap-update/
Tests are usually 4 days a week, but varies: https://www.dualthegame.com/en/server-status/
The beta key/s you get with pledge you can give away to someone else when beta starts, you get alpha and beta access.
1 DAC = one month subscription after release, so it is like a pre-order of 3 months for the $60 pledge

After a lil bit of time he got it running and recruited a whole lot moar peeps. Now they're making LUA stuff that renders even me jelly xD. They went and made themselves allies with the largest alliance in da game (the Arch Confederacy) and are aiming to get the title of Archons. They only need 40 ppl as I'm writing this and are already halfway done so uh yeh join em, they're gud.

    Hello Noveans!

As NQ-Nyzaltar said, I just joined the team here in Montreal. I'm very happy to be here, and excited to continue this amazing journey with all of you. I am quite new to the company so I do ask for a little patience while I get sorted here, I may not have all the answers right away but do know I will do my best to help make your experience with us the best it can be.

A bit about my background, I've worked on quite a few games of all varieties (MMO, Table Top, Card, Collectible, Board and more) for more years than I care to admit. I'm definitely an MMO fanatic and will be spending just as much of my free time along side you (in secret ) as you do. I'm convinced I'm a cat whisperer (though the same can be said for coffee), and a sci-fi fan.

I can't wait to see, share and celebrate all that you build in this amazing universe together!

Haunty reacted to JeronimoBeyond in QuestionS from a prospective backer
    Hi everyone!
I am strongly considering supporting the dev of DU (pledge) and would like to ask your community a few questions before making that step.

    1)    For you to know where I'm coming from, I am already backing Star Citizen... I know many people try to oppose DU and SC or are skeptic about SC but in my opinion the industry would be better off if both projects would succeed. I say this because some of my questions are based on my experience and knowledge gained while following the SC development, but I’d like to avoid triggering a debate on which is better or anything like that. I’m in the “AND” mindset, not “OR”.

    2)    I really love the DU project from what I’ve seen in many respects. So I’m sold 90% already but I still have some doubts on a few aspects of it. So I’d like to seek your view on a few topics:

    a.     Network technology: my biggest concern with SC today is how they will be able to put 2 million+ people in one permanent universe (which I think you guys call “single shard”) and still deliver enjoyable performances for players. So far lot of interesting ideas / reasons to believe were presented to SC backers, introducing conceptual technologies such as “object container streaming” and “server meshing” and the likes. But I wonder if it’s realistic at all given the scale of the game. So, I would be interested to understand what make you believe that DU will achieve this challenge (or what makes you doubt as well) and what are your proof points beyond concepts (I’ve already watched DU videos on this topic and it seems still very conceptual to me).

    b.     Economy: How will be the DU economy be balanced and fair? As a trained economist, I understand the concept of economic nodes, markets places, and various actors (players, group of players) balancing the demand and offer which naturally leads to equilibrium. However, that’s very theoretical. I wonder how 10k players (and in fact much fewer active players at any point in time) can simulate a fluid economy that is not insanely volatile with many dead areas where demand and offer never meet, and that is not subject to the ruling of a few very large organizations. On that front, I have the impression that the direction of SC (simulating millions of NPCs to create market liquidity, coherence, and avoid that a few groups of players can own the economy) is more likely to generate a realistic and fair experience. I would really appreciate your view on that.

    c.     Social norms vs. self-regulation: I love the space for creativity that DU is proposing. This is a clear differentiator from SC. But with so many players creating so many things, how will the universe not become a complete mess at some point? How will the game boundaries deal with players imagination which may sometimes also break the immersion (“funny” shapes, etc)…

    d.     Laws of physics: How is your experience so far with the physical models of the game? So far, I am a little disappointed by the direction of SC in this respect. It’ very arcade and I wish the game took a more realistic stance on how ships are flying in space and in various atmospheres. There’s also no orbiting concept, as if the universe was flat and static. My best reference in this respect is KSP. I would be happy to know where you see DU positioning itself between those two extremes? How's your experience so far?

    e.     PVP: How will PVP look like? I believe DU value proposition is not focused on PVP but from other MMO experiences I also know that once PVP is on, it’s on. And it becomes a significant part of the game whether you like it or not. So I’d be interested to better understand how DU approaches this? Will there be mitigations for large organizations trying to take control of parts of the universe. What will be the risks for individual players and large organizations when engaging in offensive activities, beyond potential economic losses? Will there be a law system in place? How will such law be enforced? Will there be “safe zones”, reputation systems, etc...

That’s it for now ?! Thanks a mil in advance for your input!
    Cheers!

Haunty reacted to Supermega in Fast Travel Idea
This is my idea for how I think Fast Travel could be implemented. Please feel free to comment and let me know you're thoughts.

So basically the idea would require to main things. A new element, for now I'll call it a FTL Drive. An the second thing would be Data for the location of the celestial body the player wants to travel too. I say celestial body because it doesn't have to be a planet necessarily.

Here are the basic rules I came up with on how it would work.
    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    FTL Drive Element:
The FTL Drive is a craftable item that basically works by distorting space and allowing dynamic constructs to travel to and from celestial bodies only within a single solar system. The FTL drive must be linked to at least one or more space engines on a dynamic construct to access this function. The FTL Drive requires its own special fuel in order to work. The FTL Drive also requires spatial data of a celestial body, in order to travel to that location. The type of Celestial bodies that can be traveled too depends on the spatial data gathered by the nanoformer. The FTL Drive is not instant, it takes a few minutes travel time (similar to super cruise in Elite Dangerous) and depends on the space engines size/quality/ or quantity. The FTL Drive will only drop the player off in orbit, or near the celestial body, but not to close.
    OTHER IDEAS
By default, the basic function only allows fast travel to the closes celestial body that the player has data for. Linking the FTL drive to more then one engine can increase the range, and/or speed. The FTL drive doesn't work if its linked to damaged engines.
    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Spatial Data

Players can use their nanoformer to gather general spacial data of celestial bodies that they visit. this data can then be used with a FTL Drive to fast travel to that location. In order to collect this spacial data, a player must be at that location in orbit or the surface, but it will take time (1 hour for example), and the player must stay in range of that celestial body until the process is done. But, how long it takes to collect this spatial data depends on a players Talent tree. The nanoformer "basic" function can only keep data for a limited amount of celestial body's, and must be upgraded via the skill tree to hold data for more locations. This function must also be upgraded, using the "talent tree", to save spacial data for different types of celestial bodies for example: Terrestrial planets, Jovian planets, Asteroids, orbit of the Star, Comets, etc..... This data can be saved to a Chip, and sold or traded to other players.
    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
That's the basic idea. I tried to think of limits and link certain aspects of its use to the Talent tree, to add some gameplay reasons for it being in the game.

The reason I suggest using the nanoformer for collecting spatial data, is so that a player is never left out of being able to use fast travel. Even if you're a new player you can collect spacial data with you're nanoformer, and have the basic means to fast travel. Maybe this could be even linked to the Pilot Talent Tree to make navigation a even more viable skill.

I'm against using gates for inter-planetary fast travel, because this would just become a PVP bottleneck that only Pirate groups, and large orgs would benefit from, An that would defeat the intended purpose. Traveling to planets will be a common thing for players, so fast travel should be accessible to all players.

I agree with JC that fast travel is a necessary gameplay mechanic for the longevity of DU. long travel times is great to scifi enthusiast, but in a videogame, taking hours to go from planet to planet will get old very fast, and most gamers aren't that patient.

Please share you're thoughts in the comments.

Haunty reacted to NQ-Nyzaltar in Novaquark Communication in the near future
(Update: November 12th, 2019: detailing the content that will be released before the end of the year)

    Dear Community,

We heard your feedback regarding our communication that wasn't as regular during the past months than it was before, in addition of a few miscommunication incidents. That's why we decided to plan several events to catch up and address that topic before the end of the year:

For those who have questions (or concerns) about Dual Universe or Novaquark, we've just opened a dedicated thread here (as many questions may be related to subjects under NDA, and we can't check beforehand, we had to put the forum thread in a section under NDA. If you're not a backer and you have questions on topics that aren't under NDA, feel free to contact NQ-Nomad and/or NQ-Nyzaltar by private message on the forum, and they wil transmit them to the team). No question is taboo. Although we can't promise to give a clear and detailed answer for each question, we will try our best to reply as much as we can.
Here is the content related to communication we plan to release before the end of the year:
    - a video presenting the updated roadmap.
    - a Dev Diary video showing the recent progress on the game development
    - a PodCast where we will try to answer the most pressing matters (based on the questions posted in the dedicated thread).
    - an AMA event where we will try to answer to the remaining questions.
    - a Kickstarter update.
We can't give specific dates for all of this content yet, but all will be released before the end of the year.

    Best Regards,
    The Novaquark Team.
