  1. Personally I don't think it would be cool.
  2. I'd rather them spend time working on the multiplayer game than delaying things further. I don't mind waiting between test dates, and I don't care to build anything offline.
  3. This is an old topic, but the graphics engine (Unigine) supports VR, and NQ mentioned they have looked into VR, and that it is not planned for release but it is a possibility if there is enough demand for it in the community.
  4. NQ has only mentioned the possibility of a system similar to POS shield in Eve. No details or confirmation on how it will end up working in the end. A lot of these types of features and how they work will depend on testing and community feedback. Buying a package would allow you to give feedback based on your experience in alpha/beta. If you like the core concept of DU then it is worth it. If certain specific details may be deal breakers, then maybe it's best to wait and see.
  5. Maybe later they will open up the testing during NQ's normal working hours during the week days, which would be good time for the aussies.
  6. 1) I believe you can build on unclaimed territory, but don't know what happens if someone else claims the territory after you build there 2) Yes, but it may be difficult for solo players to do this due to energy cost 3) I imagine you could settle far from civ as long as you have all the necessary things to be self-sufficient 4) If you are not in a safe zone, there is always a risk If you want to solo outside of the safe zone, I think it would be best to make multiple discrete bases in different areas and spread your assets, expect to lose some of your bases when they are discovered and attacked. Due to the size of the game world this shouldn't be as common as in other free for all pvp games. TLDR: Possible but difficult
  7. I prefer real time skill training. I hate having to use items or build things I don't need just for the sake of getting to the next level.
  8. I don't think so, but if I was NQ I would only provide this with DACs, like 7 or 14-day DACs, and leave the direct subs monthly.
  9. Space Engineers is one game you can practice with, it is more simple block building but can still roughly design things. Plus the default planet size is close to the same size as the starting planet in DU. Avorion and Empyrion are others.
  10. You're just going around the point I made without mentioning my other 2 examples, which was that I have to pay by month, so yes it does count. And my minimum electricity charge is $40 (3-4 times a DU sub).
  11. I don't think it's necessary and very few people would find it useful. I mean it's only $10-$15 for unlimited time for 1 month. If real life happens and I can't play for half a month, I'll eat that cost. Just like I would with my Internet, Netflix, electricity etc. bills. And in those rare cases maybe you can just contact NQ support and ask if they can suspend the account and give you pro-rated refund, I think that would make more sense than complicating the whole pay model.
  12. I think this has been discussed to death now. It is part of the pay model, it is done. I've seen few (two) complaints about DAC, there are more complaints about being a subscription.
  13. I don't know anything about it, but I was thinking the least they could do is have static water voxels and make the terrain bordering the water uneditable or have no effect on the water when edited. But I assume they'd rather do something more interesting if they can. Whatever it is I'm looking forward to seeing it.
  14. Figure out what skills I want to train, and minnnnnnnnne until I can build a tiny hovercraft and storage containers in the safe zone, and go out further from the ark ship and mine some more and stockpile all the different ores.
  15. No wheeled vehicles. Hovercraft will be the ground vehicles. Wheeled vehicles could be possible in a later expansion after release.
  16. My plan is this: wipe phone/tablet before going through customs. Go ahead and give them access to the blank phone/tablet. For anything else just say "I don't have my passwords memorized, they're saved on my computer at home."
  17. I don't think it has anything to do with making DU stick around long term. Eve and WoW have been around for a long time with subscription, and the size of their player base isn't an issue. Actually Eve's player base is back to the level it was before they went to limited free-to-play. DACs are DU's free to play system. Even if you use one every 2 months or 3 months, you're still paying less. Plus NQ wants to provide quality support. I'm against the idea of any IRL advertising.
  18. Hacking your email account (used to reset your password) is more likely than hacking your password. 2-factor would help in that event, but you really want to make sure your email is secure and maybe use 2 factor on it, if available. Just in case you mess up and fall for a phishing scam.
  19. 1) Yes and no. There may be other safe zones added later. Protection bubbles can also be constructed that will take a lot of time and effort to destroy. 2) It is lock-on targeting, not sure exactly how it will work. 3) Yes there will be avatar vs avatar combat.
