Yeah, but at least this guy has an actual forum account and is actively contributing to the community. And I don't think anyone is jealous of faux accounts.

Also, the people who care are the people who want legitimate organizations that don't create fake accounts to look bigger and better than others.
    Just saying.

Honestly something does seem odd about BOO but who am I to say? It could be either way...
But, Outlandish did sum up my thoughts about a pirate organization pretty well. I can see a few working together but it doesn't seem like something that'll hold up, but maybe it will, only time will tell.
But, we can't live without some pirates, things would get a bit boring and such. Need to balance the good with the bad. Er... no... the Cinderfall with the BOO? Oh, screw it, the point is you need a bit of both.

I don't really care what you do. I see organizations that need correction and I'm going to point out their flaws to their faces.

    Alright, lets start this off,

This is not a good idea,

"Why?" you may ask, and I shall explain it to you.

The renting of universe space will be extremely harmful to the game for multiple reasons. First, lets start with a hypothetical. The egotistical rich mommy's boy Bob decides to start an organization, lets call it "BobCorp" for the time being. One day, Michael from the much larger "Mike Inc." decides that he wants declare war on BobCorp. Bob, being Bob, decides that he is not having it and goes to NovaQuark and "rents" his system. Now as you said in a previous post:
The bit that I am focusing on is this bit:
...administered by players who actually pay for this service, with their own rules and restrictions.
So, Bob, after buying his system, decides to exercise his ADMINISTRATIVE RIGHTS, and bans all of Mike Incs members from his system, now Mike and his minions cannot attack bob's system and bob continues on being a carebear. Mike responds buy enclosing all of Bob's territory like a warmongering amoeba. Bob, after seeing this becomes FURIOUS AND SPILLS HIS SPECIAL HOT CHOCOLATE THAT HIS MUMMY MADE HIM. He goes back to NovaQuark and rents out ALL of Mike Inc's systems and bans everyone except for him and some of his sniveling friends and they go through Mike Inc's systems, pillaging and looting everything while all mike can do is watch as his months worth of work burn in front of him, afterwards, Bob, having taken everything and destroyed all of Mike's work, waits for the month to end and cancels his renting of Mike's systems, because he is happy having his one system, and for his safety bans everyone except for him and his cronies from entering.

    THE END.

See how your plan could be used in the most ultimate form of Pay to Win?
      Cheers!   rmhenn

Why are the most debated topics the ones that need no debate. NQ stated in no uncertain terms this will be a subscription model. I hope they don't give these threads any consideration, i'm starting to hope that every time they see one of these threads they just add $1 to the monthly sub cost.

You just don't understand how things works and act like a child that don't use his brain.

If you want to compare games, compare what it can be compared. Guildwars / WoW, are certainly NOT sandbox games. You should start to learn the difference between an MMO and a sandbox. EvE Online and Perpetuum can be compared because they are sandbox. Sandbox mean to have an extra power in the IT performances that cost a lot of money monthly. We are NOT talking about some shitty cloud nodes for making instances. We are talking about a BIG World cluster with damn LS network connectivity between the hosted clusters and the clients. Look at EvE IT architecture and you'll understand how it is really expensive : https://community.eveonline.com/news/dev-blogs/tranquility-tech-3/

There is only few real Sandbox and you know why ?
Because it cost too much money and publishers don't like it for obvious reasons.

The ONLY real sandbox on the market atm are:
    EvE Online Perpetuum Albion Online
So before crying you will not pay monthly just be aware about what I just said AND also do the math. DU want to have ONE big universe sandbox, then monthly subscription is THE ONLY WAY to maintain the level of expectation hardware and network power.

Also and not the smallest one. Monthly mean no pay 2 win, no paying DLC, no premium shit with golds etc... All players on the same level, no credits or ship payable by real money. Everything only with game credits. This is the best way to make the best games.
Free2play is the cancer of gaming since the game industry have seen here a great commercial way to money grab. Buy to play is nice at some point but will never helps to maintain the cost of the server side and will be forced to add some 'internal cosmetic' for real money and/or premium (like Albion) that I personally don't like at all.
Don't be retard, monthly subscription is the best choice ever for gamers and the game itself.

Also, is it just me, or has this last week seems to have spawned a fair number of "I don't want to pay monthly" crowd?

As for the OP - Different people prefer different payment methods. Plenty of people would disagree with you for a number of reasons, and prefer the exact opposite to what you would prefer. DU announced what they wanted to do. Get over it.

I think it would be best for the community if this thread was ended.

I would also add decisions like this are best left up to the developers, and not the community, as negative impressions can really harm the development team.

rmhenn reacted to Anfros in DevBlog: Monetization, player happiness and economic viability
I have yet to see anyone who advocates b2p or f2p explain how those models would create revenue for NQ in 10 years. The devs very frequently compare their vision for DU with Eve and for good reason, it's a SANDBOX. People are going to build sandcastles and they are going to get torn down and then others are going to build new sandcastles. Infinite replayability. Barring NQ going bankrupt or not managing to actually produce a game that holds up there is no reason this game is not going to last a decade or two, so when choosing monetization model it is important to think long term and p2p is the only model that has long term viability, excepting p2w but that is unacceptable to the current community and I believe to the devs as well.

In a f2p system you would need an game store of some kind, but what would this store sell? Ingame currency or materials is out of the question from a market and p2w point of view. Cosmetic items? What kind of cosmetic items could you actually sell in a game were all the things that actually matter are going to be player constructed? Could you have special colors that could only be utilized for construction if you buy them? That's basically just taking sand out of the sandbox, which would probably be a deal-breaker for me and many others. Could you sell pre-defined shps or blueprints? Sure but they would probably suck or be op, the combat meta is probably going to be to diverse and changing for any predefined ship to be good without cheating.

As to subscriptions being expensive in some countries due to currencies and income levels, that is entirely up to the devs/publisher. There is absolutely nothing that stops games from being prized differently in different countries. And yes 12-15€ is more that my electric bill too and there are many people that cannot afford to buy subscription. Playing games is not a human right though, just like you are not entitled to own an iPhone or a car.

The devs need to use a monetization model that works for their company and for their game vision, and NQ has said that their choice is probably gong to be p2p, with the option of buying game time from other players for in game currency. I personally think this is a good choice as I think this leads to the fewest compromises between gameplay and money and I know large parts of the community agrees with me.

So until someone actually explains how they would want f2p or b2p to actually work and how that would keep the game alive and development funded 10 years from now I will consider this topic finished.

I'm thinking it would use .abc files like in Starbound. I remember songs with a bunch of friends around a campfire and having heaps of fun, maybe this could be in DU.

I loved how starmade did weapons. They made it so each weapon type had a block, then they also had effect blocks. So lets say you combined a missile (main), laser (secondary), and shield drain blocks in a 1:1:1 ratio. You'd create swarm missiles that drain shields. But if you combined missile blocks with pulse blocks, you made a super strong missile that drained tons of power to fire.

To summarize, I like how starmade allowed you to create your own style of weapon through the combination of blocks and also allowed you to determine its strength by how many blocks were in it.
