It's almost like development is being led by someone that's never made a game before....yet has promised one of the most ambitious MMOs of all time...? ??‍♂️

To the OPs point, I think you should expect a good amount of abuse in DU -- because honestly the gameplay elements do seem like an afterthought. Letting players help balance things (figuring it out once the tools are in place) probably sounded better on paper than it does staring down the barrel of lost subscriptions...

Unlike Worlds Adrift, at least DU is extremely expensive to run and has completely unpredictable costs since players can congregate en masse at any time...

This is factually incorrect, an exploit is something you may be able to do, but it is still not allowed. So no, being able to do something does not by default make it OK. At best you could say that unless NQ declares something an exploit it may not be one. This is a case of griefing though which is not the same.

OP may be over reacting by blowing it up here, but with NQ being pretty much non reachable or approachable in these things, the only other option is to let it happen.

It is also my experience in games that there is always an absolute best meta. In ED for a while it was FDLs against all comers. Then with engineers, the boat was shaken for a bit but play soon gravitated around the new meta of engineered weapons.

there ended up only being a couple of viable PvP ships out of the 40 odd ships in the game.
same for weapons only one or two out of the hundreds were useful... same for the engineering buffs... same for the commodities for trading. Same for the activities for making money.

one or two key meta activities. The rest relagsted to pointlessness by the sheer gap in effectiveness between the “top tier” and the rest.

all PvP play in ED (against non pvpers)  comes down to: can you get the first shot in before they can warp? If you can, your win is all but garanteed.  (I’m simplifying, but the point stands)

And if you were not PvP you have to warp out immediately before they can one shot you.

the fact is, the PvP meta ships are honed to perfection and are unbeatable by anything not explicitly playing the same meta.

I agree with the commenter above. Players are ingenious and focused humans in general are very, very good at optimizing at the expense of any variety at all.

There is a good reason why the voxelmancers are the superstars in this game, I dont see many people looking for a 'boxelmancer......'

Dude. That’s not trolling, that’s strategically impeding your opponents.

Find one as near to others’ settlements as possible. That way you prevent your opponents from gathering higher tier stuff. The key is to find a pristine or loosely mined tile (just dig down a bit and then fill in your hole holding the alt key and you’ll poke through and be able to get a decent view of the current tile’s situation)...
in most cases, it will be just the T1 stuff that is gone.
if it looks like only the surface has been mined mine half of the high tier material. If you mine it all, your opponents will see a lack of high tier materials and pass on the tile. The key is to leave enough to entice your opponents to mine, but leave scraps so that your opponents will waste as much time as possible. Your aim is to create as much frustration as possible to encourage them to purchase ores from the market place at as high a price as possible.

Ps. I’m not a miner, I’m just saying what “strategic miners” do.

After you finish it - you can just drag a voxel cube around it, just make it centered. 99% you won't feel any difference, but will be flying in borg ship instead. So what really matters is elements relative placing, you can then do whatever you want around them with voxels.

I have just realized that there is no such a thing like voxel obstruction in the game - elements are obstructed only by other elements. So I can effectively just put everything I need for a ship into one big monolithic voxel cube and fly like a damn borg ship with same efficiency as players placed their stuff in adequate way... Will this stay like this?

Below is a completely functional ship from DU perspective and it flies perfectly fine... while being just a bunch of piloting elements bulged into one solid voxel cube

I think it's important when discussing mechanics to avoid falling into the trap of arguing semantics. Whether or not this behavior is techincally a bug or not doesn't mean much; all that matters is whether NQ specifically deems it an exploit of game mechanics. Personally, I don't think it's actually that clear-cut of an abuse, and it could go either way.

What we have here is a fairly straightforward application of established game mechanics. As has been stated, you need to be able to maneuver dynamic constructs on your territory to prevent people from just dropping a big box ship over your stuff and preventing you from leaving or accessing it. That much is clear and sensible, and it likely won't change. Claiming territory that has a ship parked on it with the intent of maneuvering that ship onto a larger dynamic core and then ferrying it off to the PvP Zone for breaking it down and stealing it is a complex application of the mechanic in question, and it does require a lot of variables to be true for it to work:
The dynamic construct has to located on an unclaimed tile. The owner of the construct has to be offline or otherwise away from the ship for long enough for the "aggressor" to claim the territory (15 minutes), maneuver the ship onto a larger construct (~30 seconds), and then fly that construct into a PvP zone and destroy it (hard to estimate how long this would take, but I reckon it could be done in about 20-30 minutes if it took place on Alioth, for example). The "aggressor" needs to have a larger core sized construct than the "victim" that can lift the stolen craft into space and haul it to the PvP zone (easy enough for XS/S cores, but more difficult for M cores like the OP's example). Besides all of these variables, the "aggressor" also has to deem that it's even worth it to steal the ship. Claiming the territory is probably going to at least cost over 100,000 quantas because it's unlikely anyone doing this doesn't already have territory claimed (though it's entirely possible they have a friend who hasn't claimed territory and can do it for free, I suppose), so it's not going to be worth it to steal new players' ships that are going to be worth less than that. Sure, some people might "do it for lols" but I can't imagine that will happen a whole lot. The real victims here are going to be people that have stuff actually worth stealing who, presumably, have a better working understanding of the game.

However, even with all this said, I can see this becoming a problem if a lot of people start doing it. It would be pretty simple to design a Medium or Large ship that's sole purpose is to troll around looking for people parked on unclaimed territory, then quickly and efficiently steal their ships. It would still require the victim to not be paying attention for a decent period of time though, so NQ's ruling on this could go either way.

No. The fetch tool was not designed to be used that way.

If you do that, you will be banned from the game by NQ for exploiting a game mechanic in an unintended fashion ?

Please explain how I can destroy someone else's core on my territory in 30 seconds... Sounds handy...

While I always admire humans’ ingenuity at circumventing laws, taxes, surcharges, rules and regulations, that is clearly trolling for the sake of trolling.

placing a TCU for the sole purpose of carting a construct to the PVP zone is not cheating as such, but it’s clearly bending the rules in a way NQ did not intend or they would have put disclaimers on their safe zone definitions....

As such, it is exploiting a loophole in the ingame logic that should protect against this, pretty much by definition.

while I think severe punitive action again the players doing this might be considered draconian, since it’s not -technically- breaking the EULA, I think, if NQ truly did not forsee/desire this method of... capital gain... they should at least provide the “victim” with remuneration or a magic blueprint to reimburse them and create a temporary patch to at least prevent removal of incumbent constructs until they can consider a proper mechanism...

"Delaying the progression of the game" lol dude, if we don`t do stuff like this, that will never be fixed, it`s a part of development... and you are saying they banned 1 person for that. What is "interesting" to me is that this is a rather serious exploit and NQ has been aware of it for at least several days with no comment or action from their end either way.

I say it is an exploit since the mechanic used here is not intended to be used as such and while I'd agree with the inevitable "PVP" players coming in and saying that you should not park on an unclaimed territory (which is fair enough), this is also a safe zone and that is where this becomes an exploit.

IMO the ability to move another players construct on your tile should only apply to constructs that are parked _once_ you claimed the tile, and not _as_ you claim it. While I understand that at this stage of development a lot of mechanics may not be complete, there are so many half done features and mechanics that the amount of technical debt this creates wil take NQ months to work through. Many things are "quick fixed" (or not even fixed, just the symptoms worked around) with hopefully the intent to come back later and properly resolve an issue but the mountain of to-do items is getting bigger and bigger while NQ is already looking beyond these which leads me to fear we'll be left with these for a long time to come.

The exploit is that this is possible in a safe zone where PVP is not supposed to be possible/occur.
The problem is NQ has rushed to open beta because they needed the funding and thus have left so many gaping holes in the game mechanics that we will be seeing exploits like these (and worse) for some time to come.

Logging a ticket is your only recourse but NQ is at least three weeks behind on tickets

Except it is, the action of taking someone else's property _is_ PVP. It is an exploit and needs to be called out as such, so that these actions can have repercussions and then the loophole fixed.
