Wait,  I thought we we're turning salt to sugar there.  If you add sugar that defeats the purpose of the proposed alchemy.  Bad form, sir. Thou has been duly chastened. Carry on.

Welcome to America!  Where you too can sue a company for giving you hot coffee if you burn yourself on the hot coffee you asked for. I'll seriously never be able to reconcile that level of idiocy.

The eula needs constant adjustments anyway to ban unwanted behavior.
But these adjustments need to be balanced well and clearly written too.

For example (I'm still drunk a little so can't think of a better one xD):
If prisons are a thing via some mechanic in DU then players will use this. All good, No worries. Then some jerks decide to use all their gathered dirt to box in a whole territory. After months of debates wheather this is griefing or not, NQ decided to adapt the eula by adding:
"You're Not allowed to impede movement of other players (for example by boxing them in)"

Bam. Prisons banned too. People will then argue about that statement if prisons are still allowed or not - and the threadnaught explodes once again.

They can only do so much with the eula. Players will use tactics that might fall under griefing. Everyone reacts differently to griefing (depending on your mindset, ingame and RL circumstances, stresslevel,...) and ppl have different opinions in what griefing actually is. That's why I think it's best to have a good and waterproof eula - the rest can be handled by players themselves. DU is huge, after a year many players won't even know each other or won't even know the tactics/designs/ships used by other groups in a different area of space. That's why I think of communities in Du as smaller conglomerates (a few solar systems maybe). A Player banned there by the community because he's a griefer (thus can't use markets, is hunted constantly, ...) may find another home far away because ppl don't know what He did - and He may be a valuable member there.
In 99,9% of my gametime noone can grief me for example, I see everything as opertunity for gameplay. Sometimes I'm just not in the right mood, but then I simply stop playing.

We keep saying "griefers" but in reality we got to count on the community to reduce unwanted guests. We're getting in the dispute district of the discussion again where it's a "he said, she said" situation. Trust the community to solve these disputes with what I've described before.

Griefing is a very minor form of 'evil' though. Of course it's undesired but it doesn't really hold a candle light to monopolizing a base material, destroy any competition by influencing the market and put hit man bounties on miners of anyone other than their own corp. Or politically hold minor corps under the boot heel, infiltrate the competition to leak locations of A.O. which then can be sold as information to information brokers or pirates.

Really... "HUEHUE I REKT MUH SHIP ON YUR BASE, U MAD?!? HUEHUE" is really laughably poor example of evil. They're not evil, they're just jerks and jerks in DU get quickly expelled from civilization. Again, very pricy 'lulz' if you ask me, all counter measures considering.

I think we should make an entire moon dedicated to building under protection of a neutral organization.
Imagine it, Hanging Gardens, a Leaning Tower of Pisa, Colossus, Temple of Artemis, the White House.
    Beautiful.
Maybe someone could a full muesem in the game for free for people to explore history and actually learn a lot of stuff.
I imagine it now: people paying teachers to teach them history.

Battle of Waterloo? Cold War? Chernobyl? Maybe some trenches? Maybe even some WWI/II re-enactments?
    The possibilities are very vast.

    No worries

Totally. Cloaking needs limitations. With what I suggested they would be bad at sneaking up on a base because the magnetometric sensors would detect them. But in space there would be radar which could detect them as well. I thought of having a radar scrambling device which a ship could deploy to make radars go haywire and detect false signatures. The device is still visible and could be destroyed. Therefore the most effective use for cloaked vessels would be nestling them in debris fields in ambush with scramblers tucked into alcoves.

This ensures that cloaking isn't totally obsolete against ships with radar but doesn't make them OP.

Edit: should give a full rundown of how I think it should work:

    Static sensors- costly/ long range:
Magnetometric - more electrical systems/ discharges = detection
Gravimetric - more mass = detection
Thermal - heating effects like reentry, rocket boosters and radiation = detection.

Dynamic/ static sensor- cheap/ short range:
Radar- large cross section = detection

Static can be fitted to bases only. Dynamic/ static can be fitted to ships and bases.

Invisibility cloak devices make more electrical discharge and therefore are vulnerable to magnetometric sensors when active.

In addition a radar scrambler can be ejected like a munitions round to make enemy radar go nuts within a certain radius.

Another edit: it makes sense to have a radar scrambler as something you shoot out away from you as it would only scramble your own radar otherwise

You might not, but your moral code or sense of aesthetics is not universally shared, unfortunately.

In 2001, the Taliban blew up the "Buddhas of Bamiyan", which were giant statues built in the 5th and 6th century.
ISIS destroyed large parts of the ancient city of Palmyra, a valuable archaeological site.
    The list goes on...

It seems that griefers are not only found in MMO's !

It's best not to use RL references to motivate game design on the basis of "people wouldn't do this in RL". Sooner or later, humans will do anything they are capable of doing...

Uhmmmm,  jetpacks for control of decent/short vertical movement when planet side? An additional spacesuit upgrade package for spacewalking? Just a thought. Future tech and all,  a parachute seems really kind of ancient psuedo-tech for where DU says we are in a technology sense. We are beyond parachutes,  we have anti-gravity thrusters.  But I would like to make orbital base jumping a thing,  seems like an awesome thrill, ( think of the VR possibilities. The wingsuit idea also opens up a lot of cool possibilities .) But I think a jet pack system is probably the easiest/most in line with the tech level of the game world.
