Currently there isnt any plans on collision damage, and rotors and other moving parts have been suggested but denied by NQ.

The reasoning behind this has been well explained and as IMO PVP is not a main pillar for the game (it would not have been a stretch goal otherwise), which is being built around community and co-op. Combat and PVP have their purpose in the game and will be seen a lot, the impact on performance by any of the 'fallout' from PVP is potentially so high I think choosing to not apply it for now is correct.

I think its really up to the Orgs on how they choose to handle meta gamers. Some Orgs may not care about alts, as long as the character you're using is law abiding. Other orgs may track you down all over internet and/or real life, and expose you. You can create as many alts as you want, and orgs can always eventually track them all down if they chose, its your time and money if you choose to play the Meta game. I personally avoid that sort of thing, and just play games to have fun. To each his own. Meta gaming is a deep rabbit whole, and it gets dark down there sometimes lol.

Just pray they dont have lua access to their constructs etc or they might be able to do something similar to you.... for example if they were the builder that built your high security buildings and removed group access from all the doors.... or shuts down the power supply (or self destructs it).... or  turns the large city gun systems to raise the city to the ground....

    Hello everyone,

I just found out about this game today, after being entirely disappointed and bored with no mans sky after a long weekend, I was discussing with a friend of mine that I would love a game like Garry's Mod Space Build, but an MMO version, to which he replied "someday someone will have the answer to that"

I immediately decided to google search something along those lines and came across Dual Universe. Nobody has ever taken 60 dollars from me that quickly. I cannot wait till the Alpha test is live and to see all of you in game.

This is the starting blocks for a game like "The Oasis" in ready player one. Something my mind is too small to even conceive. But once I saw someone beat an ingame Pong game for an ingame door to open, it made me start conceiving the actual possibilities of this behemoth thats being created. I cant wait to see where the Devs take this game and I am incredibly excited to test out what they have so far and provide feedback to create what could be, the greatest game in the world.

@Hades Maybe secondary isn't the right word, what I meant was that combat is directly tied to the core systems of the game. You can not have combat at all without those core systems.

Player Combat: You can not do Player vs Player..... until Players have stats like Health. Also player stats are directly tied to skill progression. so with out the very basics of player stats implemented, there can be no player vs player combat.

Vehicle Combat: You can not do damage to constructs.... until the voxel creation system is implemented. Damage is pretty much the same as removing voxels, also that data has to be stored so voxel constructs can be repaired/rebuilt. The whole construct vs construct combat is reliant on a voxel system being in place, without it, there is no voxel damage.

That's the reason I referred to those systems as primary. The definition of Primary is quote: " earliest in time or order of development. ". Not saying combat is less important,  just that it has to come after those system because it directly tied to those systems, before it can be implemented.

    My Guess
Is that construct vs construct will be implemented in Alpha 1... and player vs player combat in Alpha 2? Maybe?

Combat is tied to the voxel system, and character stats implementation, so its kind of secondary system really. I would think its harder to balance combat, then implement.

But I agree, I just didn't want to over state what JC said in the video, so that's why I didn't mention it. We also have Markets, and LUA scripting already too!

I like this Idea, I would love to see stuff like Hospital ships, Deep Space Refueling vessels, General Rescue, etc..... But it would be difficult for many reasons,  which have already been mentioned. But, still could be possible. I believe that usually this type of thing is agreed upon, and enforced by the UN, in the form of war crimes, in the real world.

Here is my idea on one way this could be done in DU:

1.) First the solo Player and/or Org would have to register their single ship with all Orgs they want to safely provide services too. Registration should include at the very least.... The Pilot's name, Registration number of that specific ship, a picture of that specific ship, a list of that ship Weapons load-out, and the function or purpose of the ship. This would be a good starting point to identify ships and their pilots, and build a database.

2.) The Pilot should also have to follow strict universal protocols when encountering participating Orgs. For example, if a neutral ship is approached by a participating Org, they have to always identify themselves with name and registration number when asked, NO EXCEPTIONS. Also, their symbol and Registration Number must be clearly visible on the outside of the ship. If the pilots info does not match-up, then they must turn around immediately or be fired upon.

3.) Orgs should have very strict enforcement for anyone who abuses this privilege. Until the Player/Org resolves the matter, Orgs should refuse to do business and/or stop working on projects with them , exclude them from selling on markets in Org territories, expelled them from playing in any DICE type games/ tournaments, exclude them from any Org events/Expo's, or in an extreme case Orgs attack that Org/Player until they get the message. Those are just examples, but you get the idea.

I think this would be a good starting point, but I would recommend keeping things simple, no need to over complicate it. That would probably create other problems. I know no system is perfect, but if enforced by Org's, and discouraging abusers with very harsh punishments, would be enough to deter all but the most persistent of meatheads.

JC as stated more then once that he doesn't consider the game to be an alpha state until it has gameplay loop of the core features of the game. Mainly, Scanning, Mining, Crafting, Manufacturing, and Building.
Dual Universe being a civilization building game, means when you can scan for ore, mine it, then craft it into material, then use that material to manufacture an build ships, buildings, stations, etc.... that is the "minimum viable product for alpha" as you say. At least that's the current impression stated by JC.

Also, Novaquark has stated they plan to release a roadmap this summer so that should give a better indication. I recommend you take the time an watch all the development videos, interviews, articles, and dev blogs so that you can be more informed about the game.

Here is a video of JC stating when he would consider Dual Universe to be in an alpha state.

How about a "tree" voxel? When you plant a tree, voxel data would be stored there as a tree root blocm and the client would render a tree model accordingly.

If you are an ally, a citizen or civilian (it's easier to get one as an ally or citizen of TFA) just go to the goverment request a Transportation permit, state your reason and give some general Information. Then the request will be proccesed and you'll get your permit, and if not, a valid reason will be stated.

The factors you have to have to get a permit are: an approved vehicle, a valid reason for wanting a permit, knowing the S.C. and paying a small fee.

I hope I could answer your questions.
    Thanks for supporting this idea/project.

I really like your ideas, I think things like this creates a stable and protected place to do trade, recreation and other activities.

I have a question? is it possible for players to get a special permit to fly ships in your territory? Like if I was trucker, or ally who had property, or something like that?

Yes, there will be rental cars, public transport (bus, subway,...), we just want to make the City as safe as possible so the designated areas are outside the City, and on said landing areas every aircraft and spaceship can land weaponized or not.

We haven't thought of cabs yet because you could just rent a car for a few hours or longer,  and public transport  (bus & subway) will be free.

Of course there are going to be dealerships that sell cars.

The point of the S.C. is to prevent chaos, if everybody drove and flew how they wanted a lot of accidents would occur, so the S.C. is for HOVER VEHICLES. The only air & spacecraft that will be flying in the city belong to the police department, the Military and political authorities.

    Greetings,
I have created a street code for my federation, because it seemed that nobody had made one yet.

This street code will be actif within our federation and enforced by our police department.

Anyone wishing to travel in our territory must follow the S.C., violating the rules of the S.C. will have consequences.
The weakest penalty is a fine, but if too many rules were broken or repetitively broken it even can end with a driving ban.

The flying traffic will be prohibited in the cities, therefore planes and spaceships will have designated landing areas on the borders of the cities.

    The offical document:

For more information about the S.C. you can contact me on our discord. https://discord.gg/5meXpj7

Supermega got a reaction from Katulyst in Building Ships, Blueprints, and reproducing them?
Hello, and welcome to the community.
Ok, so regarding blueprints. there are 3 different types that have been mentioned. Snapshots, Master Blueprints, and a Blueprint Copy.

Snapshots: This is basically saved data about a construct. Everything that you build has a snapshot of the voxel data saved into the construct element. If lets say you're building/ship or whatever, is damaged by weapons fire, and you need to repair it, the data of that build is already saved as a snapshot into the Construct element, so can use materials or whatever to rebuild it as is originally was. Basically make repairs/and or rebuild a voxel construct.

Master Blueprints: This is basically a physical item in you're inventory, that can be traded or sold on the market. The Master blueprint is basically the original blueprint that you make, it has no limits to what you can do with that design. You can manufacture an infinite amount of constructs from it, or even make copies of that blueprint.

Blueprint Copy: This is a copy of a master blueprint, it is also a physical item in you're inventory. This type can not be copied, and can have limits put on it. Also, once a Copy
Blueprint is used to build a construct, it disappears. Only the master blueprint remains. So you could sell/trade Blueprint Copies on the market that can only be used to build 10 ships, or something if you wanted.

    More info on blueprints: https://dualuniverse.gamepedia.com/Blueprints

Yes, that's the plan basically, But not fully automated. The only part of manufacturing that will be fully automated, is the last part by which a factory unit makes a fully completed construct from the blueprint. The process will go something like this.

First, a player takes raw resources like ore that you mine, and you use the "Foundry Unit" to make alloys, pure metals, and other materials.

Second, a player puts the alloys/metal in to a "3d printer" and/or "Mechanical Press Unit" to make parts and gear. you can make stuff like armor, suit upgrades, storage containers, and even the basic components for engines or complex machines. Those basic components are useless on their own, but are need in the next step of the process.

Third, a player can put those parts/components into the "Assembly Unit". This unit can make complex things like Engines, Scanners, Weapons, etc... some of these things can be created by a player using the nanoformer, but the "Assembly Unit" is both faster and more efficient.

Last, you can take a blueprint, and resources/materials, and elements. put them into a "Factory Unit", and it will make you a fully completed construct (Like a Ship). exactly like you original built it. This is the unit you would use to manufacture copies of you ships that you want to sell, without having to rebuild it manually.

Some constructs may take time for the factory unit to build, but it will still operate offline. So if it takes 5 hours for the unit to build that ship, it will still be working even if you log off.
So, basically the end goal is to give players the ability to setup a manufacturing operation if they want. As long as you have the blueprint, and the necessary materials/elements. Some player/Orgs will most likely buy blueprints off the market and manufacture them, in-house at there own facilities.

So the developers have been adamant about no automation, so no there will not be any droids in-game that can do those types of things. Any droid or robots will be mostly cosmetic. An programmable robots that people can build using LUA scripting, will be very limited.

I hope that helps, and here are some links from the wiki page that has more info on the things that I mentioned.

    Hi everyone,

Preventing a construct to enter a specific space is a sensible topic as it could be abused the other way (like imprisoning constructs).
While we are aware  that giving total freedom on landing anywhere could lead to griefing behavior (especially in Safe Zones where it won't be possible to destroy Constructs having for sole/main purpose to annoy other players, due to the "no PVP" rule), we don't think preventing a Construct to enter a specific space is the right approach. We are currently considering less extreme alternatives that would discourage griefing behavior. These alternatives could define in which case countermeasures can be triggered if visitors don't abide by the rules set on said territory. This will be most likely tied to Territory Units. This topic will be developed further at a later stage of the game development.

    Best Regards,
    Nyzaltar.

I may be giving folks too much credit but i imagine each organization will have its own independent architecture. I can just imagine landing on some world occupied by a cult like organization with their own warped idea of churches.

I think it will be kind of cool to check out the shanty towns of smaller organizations compared to 800+ member organizations. ( if you have 800 people you better have a lead architect or its going to look like 800+ 10 year old on a Minecraft server)

so, what was the topic about again? Connectors, right? Would be swell. We could Power Ranger our ships into a big ship. Or better yet, how I use it in Space Engineers, create a jump-ship or space-atmo lifter that large ships can latch on to so these ships don't have to install an expensive jump-drive. Mind you, I am talking multiple ships latching onto a single jumper :).
