  1. Option 42..... call your corp mates to bust u out..... tis divergent game play after all
  2. u young uns.... Ill probably be dead in 25 years lol
  3. You can automate without using a computer, computer assisted automation uses computer assistance to automate. Automation can be completed using solely mechanical means. Auto-mobile is a simple example of mobility assisted transport that doesn't (until recently) rely on computers. or said another way simple machines can be used to automate stuff like production lines, they dont necessarily need computer assistance.
  4. I'm sorry, I don't want NQ wasting its limited resources on people who get offended by the perceived shapes or aesthetics of a ship design. It is also not NQ's job, nor should it be. Voxel On!
  5. *waits to see a 100 manned and gunned hover dreadnought glide into the arena unannounced, opening fire on all contestants, judges and spectators.... *
  6. *Begin scan of enemy ship one* Occupants: 1 Firepower: 3 Laser Guns, 1 Energy Nutraliser Mass: 54,000 Kg Speed: 7,450 km/s *Begin scan of enemy ship two* Occupants: 32 Firepower: 28 Laser Guns, 3 Energy Nutralisers, 2 Advanced Grapplers Mass: 9,460,000 Kg Speed: 9,450 km/s ...... Don't care what its called.... just care about how big a threat it is
  7. A ships mass may be the only universal gauge to size/strength
  8. I don't think there would be anything stopping you from making such a ship, however, if it gets hit by weapons/impacts then the damage would spread through the ship much faster as the lighter, less damage absorbent materials, buckle and burn. Materials could be light and strong, or light and weak, some heavy materials could also be weak against some forms of attack. The choice of material(s) in a build will always be a compromise between strength, weight, and the ability to absorb certain damage types. As far as I know there isn't any DU simulator to show if say, a ship made of wood, could have engines strapped to it and achieve orbit without crumpling from the forces involved. Im assuming it will be wither a stretch goal, or maybe not allow certain types of materials to be used in ship construction. Any design, ship, building etc will always be a compromise. There will never be a perfect build. Aint variety fun?
  9. That wont make you popular with the neighbors
  10. That's very close to how Eve Online does things. I think it should be avoided simply due to potential legal issues.
  11. The energy could be Fusion related, it could be harvested from higher dimensions as well (after all the ark has tech to pull alternate you's from alternate realities). We just dont know what power source(s) are used hundreds of years in the future. Other questions arise: Who builds the elevator, the base, who anchors it? Carrying the material either in raw or stored form to make the elevator and ground station would have added substantially to the arks travel load as well. (also increasing the energy needed to propel the craft.) Also what happens when you have 3,000 people logging into the game within a few minutes - that is one very busy elevator! Even with a couple hundred elevators being used at one time it would be hard to meet the login demand. I definitely dont want to be waiting for an elevator to arrive to start my game/respawn. I keep seeing this as being added complexity with no mechanics, story, nor game benefit. In fact I see it as a detriment to the game. I commend you for putting forth ideas, however this will be my last word/post on this topic as I will state that I think its a bad idea.
  12. Im not sure but I am guessing the non-static core takes care of that, especially in the case of a communication dropout/disconnect with the game. The bed idea is interesting however

    Raming ship

Ship colliding against ship results in ship bouncing of ship with no damage at this stage of the game. So ramming tactics are pointless against ships at this stage of development.
  14. I cant help thinking any form of camera feature could be misused for covert spying against enemy positions, possibly behind enemy construct walls. Secondly I echo the concerns about the bandwidth issues causing unnecessary load on the the servers and/or data transfer to/from DU. On a side note, if you are worried about intruders entering a base perhaps a radar type unit with display showing radius around you would be of better utility - however it would be up to the player to investigate what form the intrusion is taking. That would enhance the immersion. It would be definitely a stretch goal if/when implemented.
  15. Thats what blueprints are for. Design a nice looking yet functional ship. Blueprint it. Then copy it to infinity (and beyond? )
  16. Ships large and small with a variety of abilities will have their place. The only indestructable materials are the ones on the extremities of the arkship. It will likely be years till such hardened material tech is even introduced into the game
  17. Sounds like added complexity with no benefit. Not sure in that situation how the arkship could protect the 20lm radius safe zone either.....
  18. Tutorials to get to surface just to start the game..... and that elevator ride would be at best at least a 10 min ride..... its a sure fire way to have new players quit before they even begin....
