All I've got to say is, this is how it felt before it started:

This is how it felt during:

This is how it felt afterwards:

And this is how it feels waiting to play again:

Overall I'd say Saturday went like this:

What you suggest here will not work because they have already enough people as it is to stress test their server architecture, and now that they have a concrete number of the maximum amount of people that could load their servers, throwing it up into the ether again would be a bad move.

However, what would be interesting to me personally, is a single-player version of the game for messing around with (a client+server bundle), however considering their server tech is (extremely likely) proprietary, they probably don't want to distribute it freely. Would be pretty cool, not happening, unfortunately..

I see where he is coming from. A pricing structure that caters to ALL gamers, is better in some respects than a structure that only caters to the majority. Offering a pay as you go metered plan, AND a subscription based unlimited plan, would be ideal for the consumer. Choices are good. Though, like someone else said, the 25 or so folks behind the curtain went with what is best for NQ and "good enough" for the consumer. It's not perfect, and maybe down the road they'll open up the options some, but at this stage,  a simple and profitable payment structure is the name of the game for NQ. It won't take long for players to determine if the game is worth it for them.

I think some of the other comments have touched on this, but part of the reason you buy the the game time in bulk is to prevent the same kind of griefing you get from F2P games (granted it wouldn't be nearly as much). Also NQ and game companies in general simply make more money this way, and that's not necessarily so bad: individual players could potentially save a few dollars/cents from smaller pay/time intervals, or NQ and other companies could make huge amounts of extra money from the accumulation of all those peoples' lost $0-3 which can be a game-changer if you have tens of thousands or more players.
I think the idea is noble but not worth it.

Also. OP seems to think the devs will make more money if those "on the fence" players have a way to play per-hour, but the reality is that the number of players for whom the monthly subscription is a deal-breaker is very very small. The devs stand to lose only a handfull of players at a discounted rate by sticking with a monthly sub, but stand to lose a lot per-player of the people who would happily pay the monthly sub if that was the only option.

flat-out, the devs will lose money.

I'd rather they collect that money and use some of it to improve the game.

You'll have to forgive me if I'm wrong, but those three posts from Oct 9, 2016 up there look pretty dern suspicious. Smells like alts if you ask me. Also I realize that was a while ago, but given the fact that people are joining you now potentially as a result of that, I feel like its fair to at least share my suspicions:
All three accounts were made on the same day, all are not backers, all have not made any single post, like, or comment except for on this topic almost immediately after each other (if you hover your mouse over the date you can see the exact time), and all have no profile picture or description on the forums or community website.
Sarenity  : joined 12:10 PM, posted 12:12 PM
HanSolo : joined 12:16 PM, posted 12:17 PM
    JLynn82 : joined 12:49 PM, posted 12:50 PM
The messages themselves are hilariously fake-sounding. I mean, "This Guild looks well organized and put together plus is mulit-gaming aspect is exactly what i'm looking for." Come on. That's a joke, right?
I found no one named HanSolo, Sarenity, or JLynn82 nor any variations thereof in the official 77th Star Empire discord: https://discord.gg/5FDwqpf or in the Steam Group: https://steamcommunity.com/groups/77thEmpire#members , so I don't think these were your friends pretending to join as strangers nor anyone looking for a "multi-gaming" community.

Either they are alts or you have some creepily coordinated and obedient friends.
You do know what happened last time attention was brought to an alt-infested org, don't you?
If those are accounts you made to reserve names for your friends, at least don't pretend to be them and makes posts like that.
In the unlikely case that this is a misunderstanding and those are in fact actual people, I apologize and blame it all on the suspicious circumstances.

Couldn't find Vortex; Silverlight Industries doesn't mention anything about elections or voting.  What do you mean by "a democratic setup."

Fair enough.  Really I'm just looking for an organization that elects its ultimate leaders.  I don't mean direct democracy (which would probably be unworkable); I'm looking for representative democracy.  I'm okay with citizenship/voting rights needing to be earned, in fact I am in favor of such a system, but it should be achievable for most members over time (otherwise we're really talking about oligarchy).

I am so tempted to try, but I'm not at all sure I have the time to get such an org off the ground, hence why I am hoping I can find one.

Its worth noting I said, "Get it off the ground". Assuredly a station of that scale would not only take a massive amount of time, but a perpetual income. I expect a smaller but efficient station that upgrades into a larger one is the best option. Actually one that can be built in stages would be the best in the long run I expect.

In one of the interviews I am sure they said it would take a year for players to build a space station like the one in the video but I am sure that time could be shortened depending how many people are working on it and the availability of resources.
I  think this might be the best option for most or you could build a smaller station with a modular concept to expand over time.

    Hello, all!
I am proposing a project for a rather massive structure, gargantuan in scale, design, and function. This project, at its core, is to complete a large, multipurpose space station designed for public utility and financial success. It is, on a higher level, more than a structure, as it is intended to be a realistic effort at achieving a realization of our ideas and projects for grand structures in DU.

In keeping with the same spirit of fairness that is displayed by Novaquark with the game itself, the decisions of this space station's purpose/function, as well as its economic produce, will lie in the hands of those who brought it to being: Its builders and investors (hereafter referred to as shareholders). The net profit of the entire station after its completion will be split among its shareholders, either equally or according to merit, with percentages depending on the number of people who end up getting involved, whilst allocating away 10% of the net profit to leave room for future investors and expansions of the station.

In regards to the station's architecture: the aesthetic design of the station will be ultimately decided by a consensus of its shareholders, as ideas in this area are not lacking. Certain aspects, such as material availability, cost, and architectural practicality, however, may prevent some design proposals from being possible.

Financially, the station will survive on taxes, rent, payments, and/or fees. None of these are requirements, the only requirement being the profit needed for the station's upkeep and the profit desired by its shareholders. The station will allocate 40% gross profit towards physical security (shields, ships, etc), 5% gross profit towards maintenance/repair, and 10% gross profit towards salaries for those who run, guard, and maintain the station, with the remaining 45% being net profit. (These numbers are not final; they only reflect the general idea: security first, then dish out the rest)

While the ultimate goals of this station are to be left up to its shareholders, a few key principles accompany this proposal, namely:
     - The Station must remain politically independent
     - The Station must not act as a military factory for any one organization
     - The Station must not provide refuge for trolls or griefers
A few important distinctions: Political independence is not neutrality, the station can not side with any one org in a conflict but very well may militarily aid multiple orgs. A difference has been assumed between pirates and troll/griefers. Whether the station will be unconditionally neutral or politically active, aid many orgs militarily (through manufacturing, supply, and hangar space) or aid none, or provide political sanctuary with no questions asked, is, of course, left up to the consensus of the shareholders.

The name of this station has also been left undecided, as this really is a project for everyone. The decision for naming will be put to a vote.

Of course, everyone has many ideas for grand things they want to see in the game. Therein lies the problem: it is very unlikely we will all get opportunities to have our own huge stations and ideas realized and even more unlikely that we will get them exactly as we want. Ultimately, I too want to see some very beautiful and magnificent creations in DU, and I hope that each person or organization who climbs aboard this project can contribute a few of his/her best and most passionate ideas and we can create something that, out of compromise of personal opinion of perfection and mutual contribution of effort, will make future DU players gape at in awe and behold with wonder. I hope we can impress NQ, inspire the rest of the DU community, and fulfill some of our craziest personal space nerd dreams.

My role in this project will be to facilitate the discussion (should anyone take interest) and guide the consensus toward practical options if necessary, as well as manage the upkeep of the physical structure upon completion. This project may be my idea, but the idea of this project is to realize ideas from everyone. The economic and political control of the station will remain with the shareholders.

The blueprint for the station will (hopefully) be completed before release and I plan to take full advantage of the god mode building in pre-alpha as I'm sure some of you do as well.

Let me know what you think of the idea and if you potentially would like to help make it happen!

Outside of the proposal, I personally would love to see the station to serve multiple purposes including, but not limited to, manufacturing, refuge from space pirates for newbies, personal material and ship storage, residential/luxury housing, trading and market hubs, refueling, and hangar space for imperial class vessels, military fleets, and industrial haulers and freighters.

Sir_Rat reacted to Sidrat in Pay-2-Win: Does it have a definition at all?
I believe the true definition of pay to win is when the developers create items from thin air in exchange for a direct payment, bypassing normal player production or farming methods.

The downside to creating a Plex-like item in a brand new game is that there may not be the players to acquire the resources or items you may want to buy with your currency, the main issue however will be the limited supply in the beginning. It took CCP nearly ten years to remove the npc buy orders to maintain the markets and that was with a lot of faucets available to players.

Sounds like a great idea. Though a few questions come to mind - NQ basically said large stations will be difficult projects to accomplish. That being said I expect a station as large as the one you mentioned will probably require a large (50+) person organization to get it off the ground. You could probably self-fund the build by charging a marginal fee (say, 1-10%) as a tax for using the facilities which would fund the operation.

Just some thoughts, come release of the game I might be interested in lending some assistance to a project of this scope.
