Gravitational waves still propogate at c, a ship coming towards you can't be detected.

FTL sensors will need to be a completely scifi explanation as in science it seems like there isn't anything to detect them.

Most radars would work still. Probably better than they do in an atmosphere since there will be little to no refraction.

IR and ES sensors would work the best. Only problem with FTL speeds is both are slower than light.

Using those kinds of sensors would open the possibility for a ship or fleet to get into weapons range before you knew they were there.

The books Deep Space Star Carrier cover this problem in detail.

There's a good picture of the USS HALSEY. It shows how big the Spy-1D is.

Hopefully they have figured out how to make them smaller in the future. If not these will only fit on big ships.

    I haven't read that one.

It looks more like sensor sweet. The antenna resemble the HF/VHF antenna we currently use. The black circles would be the optics. Visible and IR. The four sections with the dots look like phased array radars.

I'm not sure if that's how that will have it work in game but all of that tech is being used now. Looks like they just took what ships use now, mashed it together, and made it look like it goes in space instead of the ocean.

It is illegal anywhere in fact. :|

But yeah, the Devs should make it clear what cussing is allowed (game is not geared towards children in any case).

If callinga a person dickhead holds the same weight on getting banned with threatening someone's life, then the devs will have to filter for too much info via chat-log scanning for cusses.

But yeah, PK ? NQ won't do anything about it. They said "You better know what you're doing if you leave the safe zone" on the KS video.

But verbal harrassment should be a very very good reason for a ban, or at least, a temporary ban with the "three strikes out" rule.

    Hi everyone,

The Kickstarter Update we released last Friday (21st of October) should have answered a few questions already.
    (the update is available here)

    So in a nutshell:
    1) Community portal and Devblog are reachable by a "mouse over" action on the "Community" section on the website. But if it was said for making these more visible, we are currently looking into it.
    2) Regarding an option to receive news from devblog to your e-mails, you can already "follow" the devblog to be kept informed when a new post is released. Maybe making it more visible where you can follow the devblog?
    3) As said in the Kickstarter update, we are more for the "we release an update when we have something new worth to show". But we can try to make a short recap in each newsletter (which is meant to be monthly now )

Let us know what you think about all this!

    Best regards,
    Nyzaltar.

    Hi Everyone,

I realize that this was posted before, but for the life of me, I can't seem to find the original thread. If this one could be merged with that one if it is ever found I would appreciate it :-)

I wanted to give up an update about the Community Discord that we've been hosting :-)

It is a non-official community discord that several of us from this forum set up several months ago, but we've done our best to uphold the spirit of Dual Universe within it and to bring as many people as possible together under one place where we can chat openly about the game.

We're now at 317 Members in Discord from all sorts of alliances and groups. Kickstarter was certainly an exciting, if not stressful, time for all of us in Discord. I also find it amazing that we still manage to find something to talk about every day surrounding Dual Universe.

There have been squabbles and rants back and forth, but I think it's refreshing to see people settle out their differences in real-time, and ultimately realize that we're all in the same boat heading towards Alpha/Beta/Release.

I look forward to continuing this trend of open discussions and keeping everyone enthusiastic through this long wait ahead :-)

Coming at this question from my perspective as a DevOps Engineer (I'm a Senior DevOps Engineer for a fairly well-known software company that creates tools for developers, there's a chance NQ might even be using our software.)...

Server Hosting and Code Delivery Infrastructure should absolutely be the highest priority. This list needs to be addressed (which I'm sure it has, but who knows to what extent) before any executables are ever delivered to the Alpha Testing group. I firmly believe that the state of these things will determine the quality of the end-user experience, and these aren't things that should be an afterthought (which is why I don't doubt many of these have already been addressed, or are in the process of being addressed).

That includes (in no particular order because I'm too sleepy to think or debate about which one of these is the most important):
Deployment and Cluster Management Automation - (This one is most likely already taken care of for the game server architecture, and I have to believe the other servers that NQ is hosting aren't getting code deployed to them manually all the time) Monitoring - (And an on-call escalation path, if a server endpoint goes down in the middle of the night, who is going to get the notification, how are they going to get it, and what kind of SLA's will NQ need to meet?) Continuous Integration - (Another one that is very likely being addressed already, because nobody in their right mind ships software in 2016 without CI) Continuous Delivery - (Continuous Delivery is the ability to get changes of all types—including new features, configuration changes, bug fixes and experiments—into production, or into the hands of users, safely and quickly in a sustainable way. Many of the items on this list fall under CD) Continuous/Automated Testing - (Before code goes into production, there should be some health checks) Server Hardening - (anything public facing at the very least, but this one kind of goes without saying...) PagerDuty - (or a similar platform that provides those kinds of notifications) Failover Planning - (or just a mechanism for failovers period, like replicated database slave nodes, etc) Backup and Recovery Planning (there should probably be a plan in place for handling server compromises ahead of time) Internal Documentation for every system that goes into production - (When the engineers get a call at 4am that the servers are offline, documentation can either be one of the most helpful things available, or one of the least helpful if done poorly) Dev - Staging - Production environments - (I imagine this would be the test server, and ideally there should be a dev environment that mirrors production just to validate that everything works properly before being delivered upstream)
I am cognizant of the fact that this thread is about gameplay features, however, so my personal preference list would be...

Client Stability Skill Mechanics Sound Effects Materials and their Textures UI customization LUA Functions Documentation Engineering Mechanics (Wiring, Power Sources, etc.) Multi-Crew Ship Features First-Person Combat Weaponry CvC

Yeah. That's my sentiment on this as well. I aim on doing some planet-hunting for them sweet sweet rare minerals, and I want to have to look for threats around me. They did say on Kickstarter some alien animals will be present, so I guess will have to do with that until the mighty spider-wolves are introduced. Make them attack only at night and we got ourselves nightmare fuel, which not surprisingly, is the worst kind of fuel.

Can't believe I missed the Kickstarter.

Well I've been waiting for a game like this for a very long time. From back in 2007 when I first got wind of Infinity:TQFE. I have since lost all hope in that game when they scaled back to just doing the Battlescape.  I can get that from many other space sims that are more fleshed out so to speak.

So now I'm here with my hopes up again as I greatly enjoy Minecraft and Space Engineers.

    'Trust is'

Trust is specific. Ploys are vague.
We are an organisation with deep dreams and vested interests. Premium services are cardinal to our dominance in handpicked sectors. The HTX is committed to exotic industry, a network of effective logistics services, sterling trade hubs and lethal PvP. Through Outpost Zebra, we hope to provide players with prime, objective news coverage online.

Trust is finite. Money is printed.
Welcome to Dual Universe. We are here to serve you – not the organisation or alliance. We know trust is finite and hard to obtain. That’s why we’re always in for the long haul. Lifelong trust is lifelong gain. The HTX won’t sacrifice long term advantages for short-lived profits. To forfeit integrity is loss; to break neutrality is anathema. Your alignment in Dual Universe is inconsequential: we have a reputation for impartiality. Business with the HTX is Suisse banking.

Trust has history. Lies die swiftly.
Our arrival in 2016 as The Aether was little more than a whisper. We have since evolved. It’s hard to imagine now, but at one time, The Aether arguably had the largest network of alliances and agreements in Dual Universe. We are not the white knights of old. Alliances and memoranda; been there, done that. Time has shaped the HTX into a focused and observant group. We have shed ghosts to obviate inflating our numbers. We have avoided alliances to spurn partisanship. Join an organisation with an untainted history and famous members. We make only one promise: business is business.

Trust is enlightened. Gullibility is uninformed.
In 2017, we realised, ‘this isn’t going to work.’ The Aether had goals to offer services to Dual Universe. However, alliances would require compromise, sooner or later. Simultaneously, going solo was to paint a target on our backs. A bulb turned on: neutrality is not isolation; independence is not frailty. The options: stick to The Aether or do better. Two years later, we’ve never been prouder of our decision. Dual Universe is a world that can only grow from here, and along with it, so will we.

Trust is industrious. Deception tires quickly.
Maximising the minimum gain is a philosophy you will come to understand in the HTX. It is foolhardy to assume an organisation can be the best at everything. We decided instead to be the best at everything we do. Our focus on industry is limited to the dynamic production of high value items. Whether these are transferred to nefarious entities for further use or creative players for protecting themselves is none of our concern. However, we are interested in ensuring the purchased goods are delivered in pristine condition. To that effect, we are developing our haulier services to reach you wherever you might be in a timely fashion. To handle hostile interest in your consignment, the HTX intends to cultivate a small, skilled and specialised group of players. Their purpose is not to harass organisations or individuals. This arm exists to make sure no living being or plan comes between you and your delivery. As a secondary goal, our PvP members must be able to stall companies many times their size, or turn the tide if a delivery so requires it. Lastly, keeping people updated on the events in Dual Universe is important for their safe passage, information and entertainment. We need nothing more than a few objective reporters around the Universe to bring you the news you need to hear.

Trust is patient. Failure is restless.
Rome wasn’t built in a day. It will take time, careful planning and a long march to achieve our end-goal. The sniper waits for the right moment. The industrialist builds his conglomerate over decades. We are dedicated to achieving what we set out for. Patience is not simply the ability to wait – it’s how we behave while waiting. In Dual Universe that means having fun, learning from setbacks and constantly working towards a goal. We short-change ourselves when we give in to impatience and laxity. Dual Universe is fun; we are fun – if you have the mind to welcome it.

    Trust is decisive. Hope wanders.
Are you satisfied? If you think you have found a mutual fit in us, submit an application. We have clearly defined goals for decisive people. If that’s you, you’re more than welcome to join a premier organisation. If we have identified you as a promising candidate, you will hear from us soon.

    Trust is the HTX.
The Heimera Trade Xchange is a unique name, formed from our values and learned members. ‘Heimera’ is a word taken from Icelandic ‘Heimana’ (worlds) and Greek ‘Meraki’ (to do something with soul, creativity or love; leaving a piece of yourself in your work). Together, they signify our dedication to making an impact in the best way we possibly can. Is there a more realistic way to signal commitment to excellence in our activities?

Our members shine. The first ever community digest featured Aetherios (now known as Vyz Ejstu). The second one interviewed Falstaf for his excellent work in founding Outpost Zebra and his generally flawless character. Anonymous is an inconspicuous figure almost assuredly behind the largest projects in Dual Universe. Kael often runs both Outpost Zebra and the organisation with mechanical efficiency. We encourage our members to be active and build a respectable image for themselves and the organisation. A star filled night sky is beautiful, but nothing without individually shining stars. What else to expect of an organisation that draws inspiration from the best of history, philosophy and design?
