Daphne Jones got a reaction from aliensalmon in Do you think this is a good game to teach math and science?
I think you can learn some math and science from DU, but except for a touch of special relativity, you would be much better off playing KSP for that.

But I don't think you need anything but video game skills to play. You can buy ships that will work (even if the UEF ones are a bit under-powered). Our engines are so powerful and efficient that you don't need to be good at space flight to do it - especially if you use warp, which is entirely unscientific and requires no skill at all (unless you count applying the formula to figure out how many warp cells to take with you.) With the brakes we have, you don't really even need to be good at atmo flight - just get over your destination and hold the brake. (btw, the ships I build don't have enough brakes to do that, but I think everyone else does.)

Also, if I remember correctly, the launcher says something like "your brain is working at 12%", we might assume that we don't actually train talents, we unlock memories. At some point someone will remember how to build a market xD

I guess Aphelia (the Arkship's AI) built them prior to decryonization of the human passengers?

NQ mentioned that someone flew out a considerable distance in alpha and had to be rescued - beyond all the planets.

I wonder if they plan to model all the space between systems. When you get far enough from the origin point coord systems in computers start having huge round-off problems. That's the main reason for limits on level size in most games. I expect each star system will have its own origin point and coord system and they will some how "fake" the space in between. Once you get out to space that would take a year or more to get to in normal flight, there's really no need to model it, because no one will ever be there.

Lol and you can probably only train skills on 1 at a time or you need to purchase another sub.

Not just unique ore, but there should be some high tier elements which are much easier to make on one planet than another... like one planet has all the ore you need for that item. That (and unique ore) will encourage hauling other than bulk ore hauling.

Recently, we've seen a lot of cases of the old bug where parking a large ship near a small one causes the small one to dock to the large one. This happens accidentally all the time at space stations. I don't know of it happening on the ground, but that doesn't mean it can't.

Why do we have this bug when it otherwise requires using the maneuver tool while standing on something static to get docked? Docking is currently both useless for legitimate player (i.e. carriers) and a truly annoying exploit used by griefers. NQ, please remove docking until you can get it working reasonably.

Basically, it's PVP in a safe zone. I assume there's something about that in the TOS or EULA.

It's also just generally despicable behavior, being both an empty camp raid and an attack that can't be defended against by any means. I do hope they ban you for it, cause you should know better even without an explicit rule.

Parenting Ships - Dragged to PVP Space: This is a hot topic and one we wish to be very clear on. Intentionally parenting any construct without permission of the owner is not intended for game play. A fix has been rolled out that will address the ability to parent constructs together via the maneuver tool. As we have not previously clarified this point, we will not retroactively punish this abuse, as of this moment forward abusing similar bugs/tools to replicate this maneuver in its current state can result in disciplinary actions on an account. [Not Allowed]

I hope NQ will punish them this time!

Rotation isnt coming. NQ stated that years ago because of elements in space and collision if the planet rotates and your ship is in its orbit around the sun.
Yes we should be able to make npc's in factories. npc sitting on a chair or npc laying on a bed. We have bio-mass ingame, add some iron, carbon and oxygen and we are off.
If lua can input answers it would be great! like choose answer a, b or c. Then we can make a 1 person adventure in a living game!!
Also have a kind of 'dispenser' option for the npc-element. So when you are making an adventure you have to 'trade' stuff with the right npc for you to progress. Talk about creating missions, uh-huh uh-huh!!

They better add this in the 0.25 update!

Completely agree, but brainstorming is good for the brain... and the soul...

as elements? So we would make them in a factory and script their (conversational) behavior in Lua? I like it.

We can already kind of do this (requires god-like voxelmancy skills lol), but it would be better with a selection of character elements with appropriate lua methods included.

We fantasised a lot during Alpha (and even before it) about things like this. Only problem, with NQ developing priorities it all sounds almost impossible (or so far in future, that currently irrelevant).

Thing is, all this stuff is "meat on bones", nice thing to have, when base is working.

NQ development still stuck on level of macro "bones" systems, and even there they suffering from some sort of chronic calcium defeciency.

That's a really good idea. That would definitely make controlled PVP events possible.

Get rid of mining for wood and let us cut trees for wood.

Fishing - this is really easy fauna interaction since they don't have to actually implement living fish (that's why it's a mainstay of MMOs).

Of course, fishing only makes sense if they add an eating survival mechanic, and, yes, I'll include that as an idea. Plus other survival mechanics - air supply, water, sleep, bathroom. We don't need detailed play on this stuff - just make it a nerf if you don't lie down on a bed for a few seconds every eight hours.

Other NPC and fauna interactions. Alas, this would be huge since they really have no way to implement NPCs when everything happens in the client. Includes mission givers and hunting.

Weather - again, hard to do when everything is in the client, but not as hard as NPCs since we don't have to see the same raindrops.

I think these kind of events would work better if NQ put in an RDMS permission to allow actors to fire on a ship in the safe zone.

Good for you, and sure lets blame NQ for the actions of players how can you expect someone to have control over themselves can't believe I never thought of that...

Of course not every single member of BOO is a troll, but enough are that I feel safe in calling them out as a group for it. Read Demlock's post in the other thread and tell me again how not trolly they are. I know who Sylva is, I don't have to cry to mommy to call these clowns out. Yeah it happened, yeah its over but they wasted my time, why not waste some of theirs? Eye for an eye.

We asked this ourselfs (mostly) and NQ endless times since Alpha. This whole forum in this regard feels like sort of "Groundhog Day" sort of insanity. @Kruzer formulated quite well: likely NQ so preoccupied with survival level issues, that this inconvinience (even if very irritating for players) shoved shomewhere deep into "can wait" list.

I just don't understand why NQ is not doing something with this.

Imagine going to a market where you can't land anywhere near, you cant move at all freely over the pads areas, you barely can get into the market itself.
How this is handled is a joke, learning too late sometimes is just too late.

    Hey there.

"Copyright is intended to protect the original expression of an idea in the form of a creative work, but not the idea itself. A copyright is subject to limitations based on public interest considerations..."

Star Wars-esque constructs and/or events fall within "fair use" (not sure what it's called in Canada/France, so forgive the US terminology).

We appreciate the concern, however. It's always good to surface subjects like this to ensure we continue to be compliant. ?
